Her Astrophel and Sterling
hmmm
Hmmmmmmmm
You know what.
You know those AU's where the Batfam finds or learns about either hidden or thought to be dead Al Ghul Danny! with a deaged/daughter Dani (Ellie) (I should know, I created a few of those storylines) but what if, now hear me out, what if instead of them finding Danny first its Talia.
Do I want Talia discovering her thought to be dead son to be alive? Yes. Do I want her to find him while investigating Amity Park when the League gets reports of 'Lazarus creatures/water'? Yes.
DO I WANT HER TO KNOCK ON THE FENTON'S DOOR, fully ready to pretend/honey talk her way into the house to uncover what the Fenton's know, ONLY TO MEET A LITTLE ELLIE?!
YES.
Ellie whose eyes and hair look like a copy of her Beloved but she can see bits and pieces of herself as well. Talia knows the child in front of her was not fully her's though but everything makes sense when she hears a voice, a voice she hasn't heard in ages but as a mother just knows, speak out.
"Ellie! I thought I said do not answer the door my Sterling."
"But Daddy, yous was busy fighting the hotdoggys!"
Talia's eyes widen when she finally catches sight of familiar black hair and blue eyes.
and she could only lightly whisper a old nickname she hasn't dared uttered in ages, a name she secretly gave her son due to his love of the stars "Astrophel..."

something. about. the horror of being sent on an impossible (death) quest and obligations and hospitality politics. the trauma of not having a home, and then the trauma of being in a house that becomes actively hostile to you, one that would swallow you whole and spit out your bones if you step out of line. all of this is conditional, your existence continues to be something men want gone.
it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.
and love. it's also about love. even when you had nothing, you had love.
on the opposite side of the spectrum, this is Not About Ovid Or Roman-Renaissance Reception, Depictions And Discourses On The Perseus Narrative.
edit: to add to the above, while it's not about Ovid, because I'm specifically trying to peel things back to the oldest version of this story, Ovid is fine. alterations on the Perseus myth that give more attention Medusa predate Ovid by several centuries. this comic is also not about those, either! there are many versions of this story from the ancient world. there is not one singular True or Better version, they're all saying something.

She swallowed past a lump in her throat, looked up into her sonā€™s eyes. "Paulā€¦I want you to do something for me: choose the course of happiness. Your desert woman, marry her if thatā€™s your wish. Defy everyone and everything to do this. But choose your own course. Iā€¦."

what if they went for kakashi to hurt sakumo instead.
decided to dump the rest of the drawings together, but the tone shift whiplash is real (I shall do it again)

fun idea, kakashi actually picked up his behavior from his father (sakumo version is staring people down, while kakashi is verbal)

i keep seeing sad posts talking about "may castellan making sandwiches every day waiting in hopes that her son will return" and.
guys.
there is no hope for may castellan. she is not waiting at the door with lunch and a tentative smile, waiting for him to come home even though he didn't yesterday, or yesterday, or yesterday, or yesterday. "in hopes" implies that there will come a day when that hope fades. in hopes implies she knows the odds are bad. in hopes implies reality will eventually catch up to her.
there is no hope for may castellan.
she is not waiting in hopes for her son to return. she is preparing, day after day after day (after day after day after day after day after) for the inevitability that luke will return to her. she does not know he is dead. she does not understand he is gone. she does not realize that time has passed; to her luke is nine, still. to her she is still placidly awaiting to return of a fourth grader. luke is not nineteen and betraying his camp. he is not twenty and housing a titan. he is not twenty one and watching his friends get slaughtered in an arena, twenty-two and forcing his sister to hold up the sky, twenty three and realizing, soul shuddering in his chest, that he has made a mistake he can never take back, that he can never undo what he has done.
luke castellan to his mother is a child who has not yet lost all his baby teeth. the cookies she makes for him are soft, because she remembers that. he still leaves the crust behind on his sandwiches. he has scrapes on his elbows and dirt on his nose. he flinches before he hugs her. he spends a lot of time outside, but he comes home before dark.
may castellan's tragedy is not that she is penelope waiting for odysseus to one day return and we know that he will not. may castellan's tragedy is that she does not understand her hero has left at all. may castellan's tragedy is that she will never understand, and she will continue to age, and continue to deteriorate, and one day she will die and she will spend eternity walking the dying poplar fields, whittled down to the memory of something missing from her.
there is no hope for may castellan.

Oh geez this might be a double ask because my phone glitched out when I tried to send previously BUT just wanted to say that I love ur Steve has older siblings au
I also need to say that I shamelessly combined that au with ur post about Tommy knowing Steve the best. Just picturing Steveā€™s sibs zoning out when his mom lists what he canā€™t eat because they assume sheā€™s just being difficult. Flash forward a few years and they accidentally poison Steve with like peanut butter cookies and are realllly lucky that Tommy was staying over that weekend and knows heā€™s allergic.
anyways thx for all ur writing!
I only got this ask once so weā€™re good! The Steve Has Older Siblings AU has kinda been on hold for a bit because Dustin is either the easiest or the hardest character to write and right now, heā€™s being difficult for me.
BUT! I love this.
Iā€™m going to change it around a bit because Iā€™m on this kick right now where Steve is allergic to aspirin. Also, with the way that Steveā€™s mom is written for this AU, she is negligent but protective of her son. I donā€™t think sheā€™d allow peanut butter in the house if Steve was allergic.
She wouldnā€™t allow aspirin either but Richard insists that itā€™s the only thing that cures a migraine (hangover), and Steveā€™s eight. He doesnā€™t even like taking his Flintstone vitamins so sheā€™s not concerned about him getting in the medicine cabinet.
Itā€™s not common that Tommy stays over at Steveā€™s when theyā€™re sick.
Typically his mom watches them at their house but she had to go wake up his grandma (ā€œThat doesnā€™t make any sense. Why canā€™t she set an alarm clock?ā€/ā€I dunno, Steve. Thatā€™s what Mommy said. She had to go to Grannyā€™s wake.ā€) so Mrs. Harrington was babysitting them.
Mrs. Harrington isnā€™t very good at taking care of them. Tommy wouldnā€™t tell Steve that because itā€™ll make him sad, but his mom kinda sucks at this. She doesnā€™t even give them popsicles for their sore throats or kiss their foreheads to check their temperature. She just disappears for long periods of time to yell into the phone.
Tommyā€™s kinda happy when she has to go into the office because he thinks Claire might look after them, but sheā€™s apparently studying in her room so Steveā€™s brothers are doing it.
Tommy secretly likes this better because Jason and Richie are very nice to him, and they tell him that heā€™s cooler than Steve. No one has ever said that before! Not even Carol and they got married under the jungle gym.
Tommy likes hanging out with them even if he feels icky today.
He is standing in the kitchen next to Steve, watching Richie cut a little orange pill in half with a knife. Richie keeps muttering under his breath about running out of the ā€˜liquid S H I T.ā€™ Tommy thinks itā€™s funny that he said a bad word, but canā€™t laugh about it because he can see the bottle that the pill came out of and ā€“
ā€œI donā€™t think we take that,ā€ He voices but Richie brushes him off. He says itā€™s like candy. Tommy has brothers too, so he knows that sometimes you gotta give in or theyā€™ll rub your face into the carpet until you get rugburn, but, ā€œI know butā€¦ but what if only I take it?ā€
ā€œYou take half,ā€ Richie tells him. ā€œStevie over here takes the other half and then weā€™re right as rain. It reduces fever.ā€
ā€œYeah,ā€ Jason adds from behind them. ā€œSo your brain doesnā€™t leak out your ears.ā€
Tommy looks over at Steve but he isnā€™t fully awake so thereā€™s not much of a reaction there. Plus, heā€™s not a very good reader so Tommyā€™s not sure if he even knows what the bottle says. He tries again, ignoring Jason, ā€œThatā€™s not what Mrs. Harrington gave us earlier.ā€
ā€œYeah, I know. This is better.ā€
ā€œSteve canā€™t take that,ā€ Tommy tries again after he crunches the medicine between his teeth. He sticks out his tongue so Richie can see that itā€™s gone, and then adds, ā€œMommy gave that to him once and it made him really sick.ā€
ā€œIt did?ā€ Steve croaks, snatching his hand back when Richie tries to hand him the pill. Richie tries to force the pill into his mouth but Steve presses his lips together. It makes his brother swear and gesture to Jason, and then Steve is snatched off his feet with a hand pinching his nose shut.
He struggles and Tommy wants to help but he ā€“ he also wants Richie and Jason to like him so, he doesnā€™t help. Steve gasps for breath and the pill goes inā€¦and Steve is fine. Heā€™s angry and out of breath, and his nose is still stuffy so he still kinda sounds like a frog but heā€™s not.. heā€™s not blue like last time.
Tommy thinks, oh. He thinks, cool.
Everything is fine for fifteen minutes and then Tommy is yelling out the door of Steveā€™s bedroom that they need help. Steve is breathing weird and ā€“ ā€œand, I ā€“ I think heā€™s going to die!ā€
A lot of stuff happens at once. Claire leaves her room, Jason and Richie come up the stairs, and they all start yelling and blaming each other. No one really jumps into action until Tommy bursts into tears. Then itā€™s movement and car rides, and Tommy is sitting in the waiting room at the hospital without shoes on.
He doesnā€™t know how long theyā€™ve been sitting there when Mr. and Mrs. Harrington rush into the room. The only thing he does know is that heā€™s never seen anybody look as angry as Mrs. Harrington did when she sees them.
She looks like sheā€™s going to yell at them but Mr. Harrington grabs her by the arm and drags her to the reception desk. They disappear behind the white double doors that Steve went through.
It only makes Tommy cry harder.

the reason darry stopped being friends with most of the docs was because he participated in a group jumping of another kid and had gone on a bit of a crime spree that night with the other socs (petty theft, vandalism, stuff like that) and it was mrs curtis who had to pick him up from jail the next morning. (they called her and she told them to keep him overnight to drive the point home) and when she got to the jail she was SHAKING and her eyes were red rimmed and darry just felt a part of him break. she grabbed his wrist so tight that he nearly bled from her nails digging into his wrists. he tried to talk to her, tell her he was sorry, how badly he messed up (he was BAWLING) but she just wouldnā€™t talk back. The only thing she says is
ā€œI expected better of you, Darrel.ā€
Darrel. Her calling him by his full name like heā€™d requested she did in front of his stupid friends, like heā€™d snapped at his brothers for not calling him. she wouldā€™ve given anything just to hear them call him ā€œDarryā€ one last time. But no. Right now, he was Darrel. Darrel who almost went soc. Darrel who had ditched his childhood best friend who heā€™d known since kindergarten for some douchy rich guy. Darrel who had bullied his brother in the hallway along with his friends just to fit in. He wasnā€™t Darry, the kind, hardworking, proud big brother of two wonderful baby brothers and the son of two amazing parents. He was Darrel. Darrel, who was sure his mom hated him and would never forgive him.

Even if i already love how robb's story is told through Catelyn's eyes bc the king's mother is constantly forgotten in fiction generally and also makes us feel their tragedy stronger and deep (also that catelyn is amazing by her own), BUT sometimes i wish could be in robb's head bc i have so much questions about THE BOY he was, the parts of the boy he still was and weren't killed by the king or the lord, about how he wears his Stark's indentity and pride at the same time he wears a Tully's face, the baby that accompanied his mother in the loneliness of the first years of an arranged marriage (in a place so different to her former home), the boy that decided to take care of his both younger brothers while he had to rule Winterfell. The boy that knew about his half-brother being a bastard and his mother's worries (lbf, prejudices) about how his existence threathens Robb's claim.
tbh at some point, im completely biased bc i just love him so much and i wish have more of him. He is a nostalgic/sad/romantic tapestry woven by his family's memories and Catelyn foreseeing his fall.

Wu trained Morro at the same time that Garmadon was training with Chen which MEANS that Misako was around to see what the pressure of wanting and training to be the Green Ninja could lead to.
So later when she had Lloyd and KNEW that he would be the legendary Green Ninja, do you think she thought of the child Wu had once trained? The kid who became so obsessed with proving himself that he put himself in danger time and time again? The little boy who ran off into the night and never came back?
After seeing that, is it any wonder why she didn't want to leave her son-- the actual Green Ninja-- to be trained by Wu at such a young age?
Maybe a boarding school for bad boys would never make him want to be a hero. Maybe it would keep him safe from the destructive power of destiny. Maybe Darkley's was the only way to save her beloved son, Lloyd Garmadon, from himself.
Maybe Misako remembered Morro. And maybe, just maybe, she knew it would be best if her son never turned into someone like that.

that 'have you ever been punished as a child?' line Pen drops hits different when you realize that in the books, Colin was horsewhipped by his father the morning before he died and then went to Eton where they literally had something called 'flogging Fridays' during the time he attended
like Julia, Miss. Quinn, what do you mean you just threw that information in as a random throwaway line that is never mentioned again? do you not realize how WILD that makes Colin's background?
He was twelve years old??? His dad saw him hitting Eloise and then horsewhipped him, and after horsewhipping his twelve. year. old. son. he then goes to comfort Eloise by taking a walk with her and the bee stings him and he fucking dies
Colin would be out here blaming himself for that death forever are you kidding me???? Wondering if he didn't hit his sister (when they're children playing together), would his Dad still be alive? Would he still have gone on that walk? Would he still have passed away as Colin sat sobbing in the stables, hurt by his hand?
And then he goes to Eton where the only time he had off was 3 weeks around Christmas, but still has to stay there, and 3 weeks in the summer when he can finally go home to Aubrey Hall?
This timeline is BONKERS. Like. . .we know Edmund dies not too long before Hyacinth is born, and she's born May/June. Colin's birthday? Yeah, it's in March. So you mean to tell me, the order of events of all this mess could be as followed: Edmund horsewhips Colin when he's 12 years old (sometime before March), he DIES that same day, Colin turns 13 (in March), Hyacinth is born (in June), and not a few months later Colin has to go to Eton (after the summer break. Social season is Spring and Summer, and ends either July or August, so let's be merciful here and say he leaves in August) and doesn't come back for an entire year?
You mean to tell me this boy has had what? Half a year to get over his father's death after he whipped him for a minor infraction and then he's waltzing into an institution where canings and whippings and floggings and bullying are the norm when he's a teeny tiny little boy?
How is this man not filled to the GILLS with trauma???? No wonder he's so close to his mum and listens to the women around him more than the men and never talks about his dad. And he still turns out so nice and empathetic and kindhearted? He still listens so much to Pen and is so gentle with her and has a good sense of humor and cares so deeply?
That man is never raising a hand to their children. He probably won't even raise his voice at their children. Oh my god.

Debbie might have cried over Nolan in the season 1 finale. But the way they made her lose it is such an important thing for the writers to show. She's sad, she's devastated, and she's also angry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a woman has repressed such immense sadness and anger. She held herself together and yet the moment she broke, her son immediately witnessed her breakdown.
Tumblr media
The way she immediately turned away from Mark when it sunk to her that he's really there. In the flesh. It breaks my heart, because she doesn't want him to see her that way.
Tumblr media
She didn't even want him to be near her at first. She could barely speak at all that she had to hold her hand out to stop him. And even though she did that, she let her other hand stay on her face to keep the tears covered from him.
Tumblr media
And Mark sees her. He's sad too. And he knows that his mom is tired as well. He knows she needs him.
I love how much he loves his mom and that he knows her enough to understand what she needs.
He didn't stay standing up then put a comforting hand on her shoulder. He kneeled at her side and waited for her.
Debbie didn't need space.
Debbie didn't need words of reassurance.
She just needed someone to be with her, to be held and given a space where she can just be.

Everytime I see someone saying Cat was a bad mom, or some farytale like evil stepmom to Jon I wanna pull my eyes out
My girl was a SAINT, no woman would have handled the Jon situation as well as her
Can u look me in the eyes and seriously say that any highborn Lady from one of the great houses would have endured her husband bringing a bastard to their home and raising his as equal to their legitimate children? If anyone thinks that way they don't understend anything about asoiaf
