EXU divergence is WILD y’all.

I love how Garen, the most disillusioned and hopeless and numb of them at first, turned into the most hopeful of them all. Into the one frantically searching for survivors, arguing to go toward people, toward danger, because then he has a chance to protect people.

I love how Nia, Young and bright and optimistic, is the one who lasts the longest without being exhausted. She believes and she believes and she has to believe, because if she doesn’t believe then what was it all for?

And how it’s Erro, old and wise and having already seen it time and again, is the one looking back at their travelling companion for the last time. He’s calculating and he knows what’s at stake but he won’t abandon them. He’s did it alone before. He won’t do it again.

I love Fiedra, the one defined by the group, by her people, being left alone with just Crokas. I love how she’s selfish, how she takes from the food stores without asking anyone but Crokas if they need it. Because he’s hers, and she will keep an eye on him above the others.

And I love Crokas, looking a god in the eye, never even knowing what this being is. But it looks at him, and asks if he’s afraid, and by gods he’s afraid, but running won’t help, and these kids rely on him and he’s just… honest. This thing with eyes of lightning, bringing water down from the sky, tells him that he will need to be strong. That they (and who are they?) are leaving, and he will need to be strong to keep standing those who can’t do it themselves, and he doesn’t know or care for divinity but this is something he’s already doing, and he’s not planning to stop.

This crew of NPCs, with nothing but the tattered clothes on their backs and the faintest bit of hope in their hearts, captured me.

Man, I kinda needed to listen to this episode, felt therapeutic in a way.

But most of them got classes!

CEPT FUCKING GAREN, What is the deal there?! What did he do instead? What is he? Could he be the Allhammer? He has this odd spiritual connection to Dwarven locales, even those that he isn’t directly tied to.

Fiedra, Erro and Nia’s classes didn’t surprise me, but Nia being tied to the Moonweaver is a pleasant surprise.

But Crokas being a Monk was not on my bingo board, thought he was gonna be a Barb for sure.

Curious to see where this goes, outside of seemingly of tracking down Nia’s sister.

Fiedra and Crokas are my favorites, but I love all these characters and I really hope NOTHING BAD HAPPENS TO THEM.

I kinda wonder if we’ll learn about what became of this city they’re helping to found by the time of the main campaigns…

making my guesses now on the classes that we’ll see from the divergence crew:

erro: circle of stars druid. this is just based on the combination of his travel, the use of goodberry, and the mapping.

fiedra: mastermind rogue. technically i haven’t seen a ton of specifics from her yet, but she reads as the leader of her gang and does a lot of the planning. she has a glib tongue, a cynical eye for priorities, and a sense of protection for those in her gang.

crokas: storm herald barbarian. this goes from kord giving him the stormgirdle, but also i think it works well with his build. not a zealot because he doesn’t align to the gods so much as he holds himself as a bulwark.

rei’nia: life cleric. she’s a nurse with an instinctive touch for healing, who helped to keep people alive through the worst of rybad’kol. she could be one to usher people to their ends, but chooses to try and keep them alive.

garen: forge cleric. a stonemason who seeks to build for the future and ensure there is a place for the people in the end of calamity. punished for holding to faith and hope and yet seemed to survive.

gotta say i’m really enjoying divergence so far.

it’s cathartic to watch them work through the crisis of all crises as normal people with nothing more than the skills of their lives, bodies, and minds.

i love how jasmine, celia, and alex came to the table swinging, and liam and matt have matched the energy.

i’m excited to see where they take it from here; the last few series that brennan has done with critical role have all had powerful characters with true influence—seeing the other side of this, with the people at the table rolling to just survive? lovely.

on the other hand, in the last days of the calamity, as the gods mark their presence with final miracles for those alive to witness them, that may change.
