The sun will rise within your eyes The moon will light your smile (x)
I’ve gotten a surprising amount of people asking to know more about my OCs, so I thought I’d make a full-color character portrait for once. I also took the opportunity to get in some much needed color/lighting practice.
So, if you read Aber’s character bio, you may recall a guy named Edmund being mentioned a few times. Well, here he is at last; The Ham to Aber’s Burr!
Talk about being the Total Package™! Edmund is multi-blessed in every department; handsome, intelligent, charming, witty, sensitive, creative, honest to a fault- even the animals love him! The verdict is pretty clear, this guy’s got it all.
...the only real issue is that he knows it. Modesty may just be the only trait he lacks.
Despite living in Farmland, Scenic-Nowhere, Edmund’s lived a charmed life. He’s never had to work or struggle for anything, whatever he wants just falls right into his lap. His mother dotes on him more than any other child (out of 6 brothers and 5 cousins, all living under the same roof), and he’s received a higher education than anyone in his family, despite the fact that he’s the second-youngest in the set. While the others are out working, he’s usually inside, studying. So, the overall time they’ve spent together is fairly minimal. As a result, his siblings and cousins have taken to ignoring him and “forgetting” that he exists most days. Edmund is oblivious to their opinions of him and chalks up their hostile attitudes to jealousy.
Edmund is recruited by Aber, Mia, and Melissa at age 19, but refuses the offer at first. When he finally does join the group (around the ages of 21-23), he feels completely out-of-place. He envies the relationship that Aber and his brother share and can’t stand to be around the two when they’re together. The first person he really bonds with is Terence (B), who has experience dealing with proud and self-conscious people and is able to talk him off the ledge when he hits his lowest point. It’s Terence that helps him finally understand why his brothers and cousins acted the way they did.
More info under the cut:
Though they rarely see eye-to-eye, Edmund admires Aber most out of everybody in the group. He wants more than anything to be of use and to prove that he’s capable of working hard. Any task he’s given, he puts his all into seeing it through. His dedication to the cause is outmatched only by that of Mia.
Edmund meets Annalise while working as servant to a prince, prior to his joining the group. She is the king’s ward, beloved and fawned over by the entire nation. He’s stricken by her beauty at first sight, but it’s the strange combination of gentility and strength in her that really draws him in. He looks for any excuse to be near her (even if she already has several hand maids to assist her in anyway she needs.) Since the two of them come from similar backgrounds, she finds solace in his company. The two share whispered conversations as he polishes the floors or cleans the birdcages, being careful to look busy in case someone else should see him with her. She’s his confidant in servitude and his motivation in rebellion. When he joins the others, he makes a promise to return and free her as soon as the opportunity arises (hopefully before she’s married off to one of the king’s sons.)
Edmund is one of 3 characters that experiences “prophetic dreams”. His being symbolic and metaphorical, whereas Terence’s are fairly straight-forward in comparison.
