PRESS RELEASE August 14, 2020 Bonneville Salt Flats Wendover, Utah At approximately 8:20 a.m. Mountain Time today, veteran rider Ralph Hudson, age 69, lost control of his motorcycle land speed vehicle. He was attempting a speed record and was traveling approximately 252 mph. Ralph was treated by medical professionals at the scene and transported by ambulance to Life Flight and flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Ralph Hudson at the TrailBlazers Banquet bike show 04/22/17 was invited to attend and show his 266mph land speed racer, along with a record graphics panel I designed to accompany the display (signed posters are available). . Red Hat Hudson, still not comprehending that he's a legend himself, modestly recounts: "There were some really great bikes, hill climbers, board track bikes, flat trackers, desert sleds, motocross bikes, but the people were the best! the reports coming in from #RedHatHudson Ralph Hudson who's racing in the International Classic at Philip Island Grand Prix Circuit are resoundingly inspirational - from last night: "Sorry it's so late, got another 2nd in the 250 race, one more and I get the trophy. Had to start on pit lane (back of the pack) on the 1200, worked my way up to 11th. Was near the back of both international races. But all is going well. One race with the 250 on Sunday and three in the 1200." That's 11th out of 21 entries starting from the last row with international all-stars! My bday weekend started with a super moon, a new President Elect, and Team Ironwood Racing with hopeful goals of setting land speed records on the last race wkd of the season. Friday could not come fast enough, and we all couldn't wait to get back to the lake. Unfortunately, Saturday's run did not go as well as we had hoped and sent us back to the shop with broken bits to make repairs for Sunday's run. With determination and focus the team prepped the bike Saturday night for an early run Sunday morning and went to sleep early and dreamt fast dreams in preparation for another chance at 'the' record. Our practiced patience and Ralph's legendary throttle was no match for the lake that day. The goal of 254 mph to become the fastest sit-on motorcycle of El Mirage was smashed by #RedHatHudson and the speed of 266 mph was recorded in the record books on 11/13/16. The perfect birthday gift for this gal who's #OnTheRoadToSpeed and so lucky to be included with Ralph Hudson and Ted Silver on another successful race weekend and season.
