On the Line by @inkinterrupted - Alfie Solomons x Reader

Warnings: NSFW, Language

For my first recommendation, I couldn’t go past my first introduction to Peaky fanfic. Their work is so amazingly well written and the smut is top shelf. She captures Alfie so amazingly well, through speech and mannerisms. ‘My’ Alfie is heavily influenced by ‘their’ Alfie, not just Alfie but the world he inhabits outside of PB canon. I highly recommend all their work, which all focuses on Tom Hardy characters (Cherry Bomb - a Warrior fanfic is fantastic)

But onto this fic, the premise is simple, phone sex, but the execution is phenomenal. Alfie is away from home and missing his lady. One of my favourite parts of this story is that he’s a little flustered about making the call. This story is short so I won’t give too much away other than to share my favourite line:

“Alfie.  Are you picturing me naked at yer desk right now?” “Might be.”    His hand reached down and adjusted the steel pole that had grown where his dick used to be.

The Wicked Way of Our World by menocchio (A03) - Alfie x Tommy

The Summary of this fic is simply “On a muddy field in France, a half-mad captain meets a shell-shocked sergeant major.“ which in no way conveys the brilliance of this fic. Set during WWI, from Alfie’s pov, it manages to captivate and unsettle from the very first line. 

The rawness of this piece reminds me of Wilfred Owen’s poetry. I can’t adequately describe the power of this piece, it’s amazing. 

It also contains my favourite tag of all time: Penicular Culture Exchange 

Alfie lost his mind somewhere along the Somme near Verdun.

Closest he can figure, it leaked out of him in dribs and drabs whilst he was otherwise occupied with running and shooting and shitting. Not like he raised his head one day and found it irreparably altered – it came on more slowly than that.

This recommendation comes from the lovely @flowers-in-your-hayr​ who was so keen to recommend she DM’d me when the Tumblr gods failed her! Thank you so much for your recommendation! 

Flowers says:  The recommendation is for @angelaiswriting​!! She started to write for Peaky Blinders recently and it has a variety from angst to smut, they are all very well written and she makes you want to live in her fics!! My favourite peaky fic of her it's a mini-series called Children. It's Michael x wife!reader. They have a son and want to expand the family, so fluff and smut happens and it's probably my favourite Michael fic!! The quote I love in this fic it's in part 2: 

"He smiles. It’s a tired, still-sleepy smile, but it’s become part of his morning ritual in the years he has been married to her. He wakes up, turns his head, opens his eyes and she’s there – always. And there’s nothing else he could ever wish for – nothing else he’d rather wish for."

Just an update. I’ve had two submissions for Rec’tober so far and would LOVE some more. There’s no need to be shy. I promise you I don’t know a single writer who doesn’t love some love! (plus you can anon if you want - just send an ask)

Anything counts, headcanons, quick fic, one-shots, multi-chaptered epics, fluff, smut, angst, tropes, au’s - whatever. It’s all good. 

There are no ‘rules’ just some suggestions: - Include the title and author - A link to the fic (doesn’t have to be on Tumblr) - any warnings - say a little something about why you like it - a snippet or quote you love - anything else you want - I’d love it if you’d include the Peaky Rec'tober banner -above

I know this is a bit late, but I’ve spent all month trying to decide which of this authors many (okay all) fics and headcanons that I love, to recommend and I can’t choose. But after some serious anxiety about it all, I’ve decided to embrace ‘it’s my blog and I’ll do what I want to” philosophy and rec it all. 

@whentommymetalfie​ Masterlist

This author is so skilled in the craft of writing, their work technically brilliant, but when you’re reading you don’t see the skill, the work, behind it all, you are too entranced to see.

This author writes stories which are funny, moving, insightful, heartwarming, heartbreaking, tear-jerking, adorable, hot and just generally amazing. An AU that stands completely on its own, is so rich and textured its completely immersive and so beautifully written. Where many mlm fics are simply smutty (which I don’t object too at all), or angsty (again no issue), these stories have at their core two people who love each other, and later their children (and a slightly dysfunctional extended family) and that is such a joy.  

AND THE ART!!! 

The Captain of the Tommy / Alfie ship (Tofie or Sholomons, if you prefer). They are a wonderful person, and so kind, welcoming and supportive for all others who sail on her. I never would have written any of my own Tommy / Alfie pieces without wtma as my muse.

Gone Too Soon - @justanothershelby - Tommy x Alfie

Warnings: It’ll break your heart

Do not take this warning lightly - I cried like a baby reading this fic. 

Tommy and Alfie are older and retired to Margate. The softness of the interactions between them in this fic is beautiful. As are the descriptions of how they’ve aged. The little bit where Charlie brings his family to visit is beautiful and bittersweet. Tommy opening up to Charlie about Alfie nearly killed me. As did Alfie forgetting that Cyril had died. So many fics focus on Alfie being a comfort to Tommy (note: I’m not complaining about these at all - I love them too), but in this it’s Tommy who provides the comfort and support to Alfie and it’s wonderful. 

I can’t say much more without giving it all away. But this is an amazing piece, crafted with such tenderness and care. There are no cheap thrills or kills here, just a study of two people in love in the twilight of their lives. In a way, this is the perfect happy ending. 

Every time, Tommy would hold his husband and hush him, kissing his head and reminding Alfie over and over how much he was loved. Only once Alfie was asleep did Tommy allow himself to wallow in his grief.

Little Things - @collecting-stories - Finn Shelby

To be honest, it was nearly impossible to pick a fic for this author, because they have so many wonderful fics (I also love their Vikings work). Writing across nearly all the Blinder boys there are so many to choose from. All their works are thoughtful and beautifully crafted. They are such a joy. 

I chose this fic because it’s such an excellent study of Finn and how he fits in the family. It shows the frustrations he has with his brothers along with his own hope and dreams. Plus it includes Finn learning to read which for some reason is just one of my favourite things! 

“Thanks for the evening Finn.” You said, stopping outside your front steps.  

“Welcome.” He answered. Then he chanced it and leaned in, chickening out at the last minute and kissing your cheek.  

Still, the result was what he’d hoped for. The lovely little smile that graced your lips as you looked at him. “I’ll see you later, we’ll go out again yeah?”

Third Times a Charm by @danceyreagan​ - Isaiah Jesus x Black!FOC

The third (the first two are headcanons) in a sweet series about Isaiah and his somewhat flawed attempts at wooing the wonderful Mona. A girl with sass who is taking no rubbish from the young man. It’s such a pleasure to read a fic where the woman knows her own mind, values and standards. Honestly, this is also too cute for words. 

Mona, was by no means impressed by the reputation or occupation that Isaiah held, but she had eyes and there was no denying he was a handsome man.

Daybreak by @tommysmutnothingbut - Tommy x reader

To my mind, in this fandom at least, this author is the Queen of BDSM smut. It’s all in the name really! With Dommy Tommy their fics are HOT. So it was hard to pick just one fic to recommend, which is why I probably chose something that was not at all their usual shtick. It’s fluffy smut, soft and gentle. This is a fic about making love. It brings out all my warm fuzzy feelings. 

  Tommy was like this sometimes after he had been rough with you - even though he knew you profoundly enjoyed it, he would come to you again in the night to rock you into him, his lips lightly dragging across your skin while he brushed his knuckles against your cheek, sometimes waking you only to tell you he loved you before he shushed you back to sleep; you were sure his gentle brushes didn’t stop even once you were floating in slumber.

Okay, so I'd honestly recommend ANYTHING by @evelynshelby. All of their work is absolutely lovely! I am obsessed with this one shot End of Days, though. It's heartbreaking and beautiful. A simply stunning look into Tommy's mind and it's impact on the people he loves.

It's a Tommy/Reader that does contain a fair amount of angst and self-harm with a nice little dose of smut.

Do yourself a favor and read it now!

Car Show - @xxdearlybeloved - John x Reader

This author is one of my favourite writers for John. They capture both the lad and the gangster perfectly. This fic takes the ‘two fools in love with each other, both thinking the other doesn’t notice them” trope and takes it to the next level. My heart hurts for the OC, but for John too. 

The smut is divine, not just hot but with feelings too. I love how there is slight awkwardness making the whole thing feel so much more authentic. This fic softens my hard heart and makes me give a little happy sigh.
