Imagine this whole group on one of their first quests together to 'Save The World!' And the three formally educated know a bit abt the many trials they're all going to go up against(bc the powers that be had decided these three would help the chosen one due to his complete lack of magic experience at all), whilst Roman, Remus, and Virgil are off to the side having started bickering about some off-topic discussion and aren't really paying attention to the current discussion yet.

Janus, to Logan and Patton: "Okay, so. We need this relic that's locked behind this magic cave's entrance that requires its specific puzzle to be solved in a specific way in a specific part of this season on a new moon, we have about 3 months before that time comes until it lapses over and wont be available until next year, is *that* enough time for us to break down and delegate out all the necessary steps between all of us to opening this tedious stupid godforsaken gate?"

Logan and Patton: "err.. well.. maybe?"

Remus, who'd been listening in on the three who actually know what they're all supposed to be doing, and is one of the only people who knew Virgil before he became the chosen one bc theyve been bestfriends since they were toddlers(hense he knows that Virgil can and will overthink everything if given half a chance): "Pssst! V, betcha 1 of Patton's legendary cookies that u won't go in ahead of the others with me to go look at the puzzle inside."

Roman, catching on to his brother doing. Something. And just rolling with it by playing along and afterward going to play distraction with the other three: "Really? You're gonna raise our valiant chosen one to be reckless, going in ahead of us?"

Remus: "relaaax, I just wanna look! I'm bored out here, and I'm not allowed to destroy things to cure said boredom! And someone's gotta scout the place out for potential traps, right?"

Roman, sighing theatrically: "I suppose you're not wrong. Please be careful, though!"

Virgil, skeptical but spite driven to not be seen as weak, quietly: "we'd only be going to look around inside right? We won't touch anything that looks important?"

Remus, gently nudging Virgil: "yeah V, that's it really. I just need to stretch my legs. You and I both know we don't do well sitting still for too long."

Aka the three get about half way through their whole delegation of tasks before they realize Remus and Virgil are missing, looking around only to find the damn cave gate open(when it absolutely wasnt open like 10 minutes ago.) And familiar cackling remus laughter ringing out from inside.

Logan: "Remus?! Virgil?! How did you get inside?!"

Virgil: "...through the door?"

Logan: "The door that was Locked?!"

Virgil: "I mean, yeah? And I opened it? I had to use a little magic to convince the mechanism to unlock itself, but it was more tedious than anything. What are you freaking out about? Was I not supposed to???"

Janus, finding the relic and confirming with a quick once over before grabbing it and ushering everyone out of the cave immediately after: "You did a lovely job dear, absolutely unconventional."

Janus, quietly to Remus: "Remind me to consider magically brute forcing our way through first before we stick to the 'given way' of solving these trials. It's going to save us a lot of time if even half of these resolve under a bit of concentrated scrutiny from a powerhouse of a teenager with little to no concept of magic mastery scaling."

Au where Logan Patton and Janus are formally taught mages/magic users who learned from a young age to use ingredients, rituals, and spells to cast magic. Aka magic normies if u will

And Roman and Remus are informally taught mages/magic users who learned from a young age that their magic can be wild and trained but never fully contained. They cast with a constantly changing array of resources and are the kind of spellcasters that rarely ever cast magic spell the exact same way twice, regardless of the fact that it works regardless. Aka magic cowboys/hillbillies, if you will.

And then there's Virgil. The (begrudging) Chosen One. Bestowed with great magical power at like age 16.

One problem, Virgil was a normal kid before this, so. He's got No Training. At All. Somehow, This doesn't seem to interfere with just. Fucking casting magic at will. What are special casting ingredients? What are special spells? "What do you mean you can't just normally block a fire attack at will?? I have?? It's easy?? Your pulling my leg right Logan???" "I cannot express to you how much I am not even close to lying to you about that, Virgil."

Aka Virgils magic is close to broken levels of OP and his actual weaknesses involve teenage angst, spite, and hubris. The powers that be told him to go save the world, and he hunkered down in a bathtub, fully clothed, flipped the world the bird, and said "no." And. The powers that be cant actually revoke his powers now. Whoops.

The others are just glad to befriend this grumpy lump of shadowy teenage destruction with little pushback. (Virgil is a food motivated cat. No I will not elaborate.)
