Cesar shifted, propping himself up slightly on one elbow. His dark eyes roamed over Kaden’s face, studying them like he was afraid they'd disappear if he took his eyes off them. Then, out of nowhere, he pressed a soft kiss to their cheek.

Kaden let out a small laugh. "What was that for?"

Cesar grinned. "Felt like it." He kissed the other side of cheek. Then the corner of their mouth...

Kaden’s nose scrunched up as they fought back a smile. "Cesar—"

He got a little smirk on his face but he didn’t stop. His lips found theirs in a lingering kiss before trailing to their jaw, then their nose, then their forehead. The kisses came faster, a flurry of warmth against their skin, and suddenly Kaden was giggling, squirming against him.

"Okay, okay, I get it!!" they gasped between laughs.

"Nu uh sweetheart~" Cesar said, grinning against their skin. "This is long overdue...."

He kissed their chin, then the tip of their nose again, making them laugh even harder. Kaden weakly pushed at his chest, but their hands had no real strength behind them.

"You're relentless!" they managed through their laughter.

"I'm making up for lost time.." Cesar murmured, pressing another kiss to their forehead. "I have months of kisses to catch up on, after all…"

Kaden’s laughter softened, their breath hitching just slightly as their hands rested against his chest. Their eyes gleamed with something playful, something that made Cesar pause just long enough for them to tilt their head and whisper "you'll be here all night making up for it~"

Cesar inhaled sharply, a slow smirk tugging at his lips. "Challenge accepted..."

And before Kaden could say another word, he was kissing them again, deeper, slower, his hands framing their face like he was afraid to let them go. If they had four months to make up for, he was going to savor every second of it.

He took a moment to pause, to gaze into Kaden's green eyes, smiling sweetly "my beloved..I love you.."

Kaden smiled up at him, cheeks flushing a light pink "I Love you too my angel~"

Lucien woke up to the warm rays of the sun gently caressing the scarred side of his face. He kept his eyes closed, breathing in deeply. He knew that someone had opened the window, the fresh autumn air sharp with a hint of winter. 

Lucien enjoyed early mornings, but he figured he had slept later than usual, especially as he blearily opened his eyes to take in the bright suite he shared with his mate.

Elain. 

Lucien’s gaze fell to the armchair she had resolved to sleep in, at the neatly folded blanket and the carefully placed pillow. He blinked, his golden eye whirring before it clicked into place, settling on the empty chair once more. 

Lucien’s first thought was that Elain had simply decided that she had had enough of him and the Autumn Court. He could not even blame her if that were the case, but his mind continued to wander. Perhaps, Elain had gone to find Cora, or Eris had come by their rooms to speak with her, he thought. 

Lucien quickly came to an even worse conclusion as he considered what his other brothers might want with Elain, what his father might want, even. He jolted upright in bed, his heart racing, thinking again of Jesminda. 

“Good morning, Lucien.” 

Nearly snapping his neck so that he could turn towards the sound of Elain’s voice, Lucien decided he would need to remind himself to take calming breaths before he jumped to ridiculous conclusions. 

He had not been expecting Elain to be awake, let alone drinking a cup of coffee on one of the comfortable and cushioned seats by the opened window. She had her hair pulled up messily with a leather strap, loose curls framing her pretty face. The dark dress she wore pillowed around the armchair and it looked to Lucien that she was sitting cross-legged, entirely relaxed despite how nervous she had been the night before. 

Lucien’s eyes fell to the ancient looking book on her lap, wondering for a moment where she could have gotten it from. He cleared his throat, remembering that he needed to reply to her. 

“Good morning, Elain.” 

Lucien figured he must have been looking at his mate for longer than what was perhaps deemed appropriate in the human lands because a blush, red as roses, bloomed along her cheekbones. He flashed her a grin. 

Elain’s shoulders straightened, but she did not look away from him as she spoke, voice a bit more high-pitched than usual. “Coffee?”

Lucien hummed his response, stretching his arms as he got out of bed. He watched as Elain kept her gaze on him, her blush darkening. 

The placement of the twin armchairs by the window were clearly meant for couples to enjoy, Lucien noticed. He raised a brow, deciding that the furniture was placed by someone who had obviously considered how romantic it was to drink morning coffee while overlooking the beautiful forest. 

Lucien scrunched his nose as his feet touched the stone floors, remembering his childhood, nostalgia crashing over him briefly before he took a seat in the second armchair. He rolled up his shirtsleeves as he sat, Elain turning away from him sharply. He had to fight the grin that once again threatened to bloom along his features.  

Instead of speaking, Elain merely put her book aside and nudged a mug matching her own towards Lucien. 

“Slept well?” He asked, taking the cup and relishing in the warmth of the beverage. Tendrils of heat floated into the air as he took a sip. He was surprised at how perfectly it had been made, with a little more milk than there was sugar, just as he had always liked it. 

“Yes,” Elain answered sweetly. 

“Liar,” Lucien quipped with a small laugh, pretending to cough as he took another sip of his coffee. 

Elain’s full lips tilted up at the corners as she mirrored him, drinking from her mug slowly. 

Beautiful. 

The thought was a bell’s toll, ringing loudly in Lucien’s mind. She truly was lovely, but he shook his head, forced himself to think of something else. He wondered if he should try and get Eris to take her to the courtyard, to show her Autumn’s flowers. 

“Lucien,” she said, voice serious. He felt as his heart skipped a beat, the bond’s influence, at the sound of his name rolling off her tongue. 

“Elain,” he replied, glad that his own voice was steady, almost playful. 

Elain rolled her shoulders, knuckles white against the mug still in her hands. “I can’t marry you,” she managed to say through her teeth, every inch of her seeming tense with nerves. 

Lucien raised his brows, about to tell her something he hoped would put her mind at ease, but he was not given the chance. 

Elain spoke quickly, her words falling like rain in a storm. “I don’t regret coming for you, I would do it again.” Embarrassment turned the tips of her pointed ears pink, but Lucien just let her continue. “Your father scares me, but Autumn is lovely, really lovely, and I would come again if given the choice, I think, but not like this.” She put her mug down, some of the coffee spilling onto the dark wood of the table. “And there’s nothing wrong with you,” Elain added, sounding annoyed. 

“Terribly kind of you to say so,” Lucien interrupted, face serious, but she went on as though she had not even heard. 

“But marriage is going a bit too far, I just…I can’t.” She turned pleading brown eyes on him, “I can’t, Lucien.” 

It had been years since the war with Hybern, since Elain’s broken engagement with Greyson Nolan. While Lucien was certain that Elain had always deserved better than spending her life married to the human lord, he wondered if the pain of it all had not yet entirely abated. 

“Elain, if you really think I’ve spent the last few days actually believing we were going to be married on the night of the full moon, we have much greater problems.” Lucien watched her blink, once, then twice, as she took in his words. He could hear birds softly chirping, the cool wind carrying the sound through the open window. 

“But the bond…” she trailed off, shaking her head, chestnut curls bouncing around her shoulders. “What about the bond?” 

Lucien sighed, “Cauldron, Elain, the unaccepted bond is not affecting my ability to be reasonable.” He wondered, as he often did, what kind of assumptions Elain must have about the fae and their mating bonds. 

She looked at him through her long lashes. “It’s not?” She asked softly, disbelieving. 

“It’s not.” Lucien reassured, nodding confidently. 

Elain huffed, clenching her eyes shut and rubbing her temples for a moment. “Sometimes I think the bond makes me unreasonable,” she admitted. 

“And it never occurred to you, Elain, that perhaps you’re just not very reasonable,” he said with a shrug. He arched his neck back, draining the rest of his coffee. When he looked again to Elain, he could not help but laugh at the poisonous glare she cast in his direction. 

After a moment, Elain laughed too, lovely as windchimes. Both their masks were finally aside, walls down, if only briefly. 

“I’m not,” she mumbled through her giggles. 

Lucien was still smiling as he put his mug down on the low table, lounging more comfortably in his armchair. “There’s no fucking chance in hell that we marry, Elain,” he said with a lazy wave of his hand. “The Inner Circle will come for us, and if they don’t, I’m not sure anything will stop Nesta from dragging you back to Velaris.”

Elain already looked more comfortable, merely nodding as she considered his words. 

Lucien raised a brow at her. “Only thing is, we’ll be forced to spend time together, play our parts so no one will question the undying love we share.” 

Elain snorted as he finished speaking, decidedly much more confident now that she was sure they would not be getting married. She bit her lip, turning away from him. “So far, your company has been…acceptable.” 

Lucien smiled, “I mean, in comparison to the rest of my family, I’m a joy.” 

“Modest, too,” Elain added, hardly missing a beat. 

Lucien felt as he did playing chess with an admirable opponent. Elain was always ready to match his every move. 

As Elain flashed Lucien a genuine smile, her eyes bright with amusement, he wondered for the first time since having met her if the cauldron was perhaps not entirely wrong in having made them mates.

rambling about my arcane s/i following this set of questions (might not answer all of them)

🌸 Do you have any basic headcanons? (Age, Sexuality, Etc.)

Okay, so age: during act 1 of season one, Vi's 15, Caitlyn's 16 & I'm 18-18.5; then during acts 2-3, Vi's 22, Cait's 23, and I'm 25 (i'm placing progress day in spring so prior to my birthday) - aka I'll be 26 post the minor timeskip in season 2 (it's like at most 6 months)

I'm using the League fan birthdays for them (unless we get proper confirmation of their birthdays in Arcane) - so Dec. 19 for Vi, and Jan. 4 for Caitlyn.

Sexuality: I don't have anything finite but we all like women hehe

🌷When does your self-insert come into the story? Is your selfship established before the events of the source?

Mine's there pretty much from the beginning - certainly in acts 2-3 of season one, I'm already in an established relationship with Caitlyn (technically loosely in act 1 - like we go on dates but we're teens so romance isn't the main focus - though our first kiss is on her sixteenth birthday at her request :3)

the third fic I've written is like a snippet of all the scenes that would show my s/i during progress day (idk if the kiss scene would be shown in act 1 or like alluded to/given flashbacks to later on)

my relationship with vi develops alongside her relationship with caitlyn following canon pretty closely.

🌺Are there any other characters that are very relevant to your self-insert or F/O story-wise?

Jayce is like an older sibling figure (and given that Viktor is his work partner, we're at least on friendly terms). Otherwise, Caitlyn's parents are fairly fond of me.

Later on, I grow fond of Jinx & Isha through Vi. I don't think there's enough time there to properly gain familial relationships but we have like an understanding (in a modern au, she definitely would be a younger sister to me)

🌹How would your self-insert function in the source? (Side character, Main character, etc?)

I dunno how to classify it - side character i guess, but she's important to one of the main ships so?? but like she's not really involved much in the politics or hextech stuff unless cait & vi drag her into it

🏵️ How did your ship meet? What were their first impressions?

Cait & I meet first - she finds me when i'm new to piltover, lost on the street & unable to find my way home. she gets her mother to help me get home - we're friends from then on. // her first impression of me was literally that i needed help and well, the fic's not called a savior and a friend for nothing (she was my savior :3)

Vi & Caitlyn meet next - the whole Cait breaking Vi out of jail scene as follows in canon. Uhh very tense first impressions - essentially the canon ones (like Vi's surprised that Cait's freeing her & Cait sees her as a way to get a lead on the attacks in Piltover)

Vi & I meet last. Literally the second they return from Stillwater, Caitlyn goes to find me (she promised she would once she returned) and drags Vi there before they head to the Undercity. It's a very brief meeting but she comes away thinking I'm a good painter and my main impression is that she's very pretty (like it's a brief interaction or I'd have more).

🌻Does your self-insert or F/O go through any character development throughout the story?

Vi stays pretty true to herself the whole story - that's the point. She has a good heart and Vander told her to keep her heart that good no matter what. She manages, in my opinion.

Caitlyn... has a bad arc but she's at least trying to fix what she's done at the end. (AKA, she goes a bit dictator under Ambessa's influence for those who haven't watched the show) still, by the end of it, she regrets what she's done and like i said is showing with her actions that she's not like that anymore (i know it doesn't absolve her of her actions but her mother dies and sends her down that spiral so...)

As for me... uhh, honestly I think I'm similar to Vi. I stay pretty much the same from beginning to end - loyal to those I care about (with some exceptions in Cait's case during her worst era - like I still love her, I don't think a childhood love could be broken that easily but I can't be with her like that)

🌼Is there an official confession scene between the two of them?

You know, I don't think they say I love you officially in the entire show - it's shown but not said lol. I'll probably amend that though whether that's somewhere like s2 e8 or after everything's over and done...

For Cait & I, that first kiss is as much a confession as any - though the first I love you is also important (i haven't thought much on when that is, but likely a few dates in)

For Vi & I, our first kiss is during her pitfighter era sometime (I'll have more thoughts on this when I actually write stuff during that time, I'm still writing in season 1 - though I'm almost to season 2)

🍀 Do You have any other scenes in mind? Angsty, Tender, Funny, Etc.

Like I said, I'm following canon pretty closely so most of those scenes still hold weight. But I'll mention a few snippets I probably won't get around to writing. (or they'll be short if I do)

S1, E6 - when Cait's settling Vi after she takes the shimmer to heal her wounds - that moment where it's implied that Cait wants to kiss her, she has a little moment of panic because she has a girlfriend waiting for her and that's why she changes the subject so abruptly.

S1, E9 - when Jinx is all 'I paid your girlfriend a visit' and she reveals Caitlyn, Vi can't help but ask about the other girl (aka me) and JInx is all 'who? oh!!! her... nah, i just left her asleep in caitlyn's bed) (aka Vi may not be 100% in love with me yet here but she still cares :3)

Honestly, the rest of what I have in mind will probably be written so... *shrugs* // though also i'm thinking that my s/i should get injured at some point (like she's a painter, not a great fighter (though she's probably trained a little with cait as kids)) but I'll figure out when - that last fight would work or either of the other big fights in season 2 (the one where they get like attacked at the speech mel's giving or during the thing w/ isha and them later on in season 2 (bc my s/i is there so... but vi gets injured there so maybe only one large scale injury should happen...) sorry, i'm rambling now lol

My name is Turtle. I'm studying to be a marine scientist, but I'm also an artist and a writer. My special interest is marine biology, and my favourite media is Pokémon, The Moomins and World Trigger, as well as various others.
