RebelWell is kicking off the second year of LOU on the Move with the return of the popular weekly community fitness pop-ups.
RebelWell, a campus and community wellness program that promotes awareness and offers education and opportunities to live a healthier life, created LOU on the Move to provide community members with a weekly group fitness class. These classes, which are open to students, staff and community members of all ages and fitness levels, will change instructors, location and workout style every week.
“Everyone is encouraged to attend these events,” said Wendy Carmean, RebelWell project coordinator. “The instructors can modify all of the activities to make them easier or more difficult. We don’t want people not to come because they think the workouts are too easy or too hard.”
Classes that will be held this spring include aquaerobics, Zumba, kickboxing and even Insanity. One highly anticipated class is the “Booty Boot Camp” that will be held this Saturday at the Turner Center on campus. 
“Booty Boot Camp” is a three-part workout experience focusing on the glutes, legs and thighs. Participants will begin with a 15-minute cardio warm up, then will complete a Tabata style exercise routine emphasizing glute isolation, and will finish with a ten-minute stretch and gentle yoga that incorporates body and mind fitness. 
All LOU on the Move pop-up classes will begin at 9 a.m. and will last approximately 60 minutes. Parents are encouraged to bring the whole family to these events. 
“One of the goals is to eventually have a separate instructor for kids,” Carmean said. “We want kids to be included in the workouts and to understand that fitness is an important part of life.” 
In addition to the weekly fitness pop-ups, RebelWell also hosts a weekly yoga series called “Yoga in the Gallery.” This is a 45 to 60-minute yoga session in the University Museum at 8:30 a.m. on Monday mornings. 
“It’s so beautiful and peaceful,” Carmean said. “The yoga session is before the museum opens; so it’s quiet, and you’re surrounded by all of this beautiful art.” 
One of the big draws of these events is that there are no membership or attendance requirements. All LOU on the Move activities are free and open to the public, and you can choose to attend one session or every session. 
“There is no cost and no limitations to who can come,” Carmean said. “We just want to provide fun fitness activities for the community.”
