As a doctor who fan and a good omens fan, yes. Yes you should.
oh so we ALL were traumatized by the good omens season 2 finale so brutally that it catapulted us back into our doctor who phases, huh?

The Blood Drop of Subcon
Part 4
"So let's get this straight." Moonjumper spoke to the shadow version of himself. "The spell actually worked, except it failed to transfer the entirety of our soul into our shadow."
"Seems so." Snatcher replied, sipping on one of the two cups of hot chocolate the hatted kid brought to them. The two spirits had held themselves up in her bedroom, unable to stand the loud grinding of gears from the engine room next to the main living room.
"In turn, the part of the soul that made it into our old shadow became you, The Snatcher," Moonjumper reiterated what the duo had managed to figure out through the lengthy conversation being held on the way back to Earth. "And the part of the soul that got stuck in our old body became me, The Moonjumper."
"I guess so." Snatcher commented.
"I don't know how we screwed that spell up so badly that it split our souls apart." Moonjumper rested his cheek in his hand. "There's been no such recounts of this spell ever splitting a soul between the body and its shadow. It was either the soul made it into the shadow or it didn't. So what happened?"
Snatcher took another sip from his cup. "Perhaps the water messed up a part of the ritual circle?" He suggested.
"No, that wouldn't be it." Moonjumper countered. "Screwing with even a part of the circle would destroy the process entirely. Neither of us would be here if that happened, so it must have been something else."
Moonjumper slowly sipped upon the chocolate drink, not used to consuming anything besides souls and bodies for apparently over seven centuries. That was one of the many things that stressed his mind at the very time, learning that literally 731 years had passed since he woke up in his white hell and that each escape were spaced a year apart.
"Say, how did you come across this ship and her captain?"
"Oh God." Snatcher moaned in despair. "Do you really want to know this story? It's truly embarrassing."
"I do, I do!" Moonjumper exclaimed. "I must know how my shadow managed to come to my rescue!"
"She's basically an alien." Snatcher caved. "Came from some distant part of the universe. From what I've been able to sneak in from reading her diary when she wasn't onboard, don't tell her, some Mafia Goon broke her window and caused her fuel source to fall down onto the planet."
Snatcher continues. "Some of her fuel fell into my territory, and she goes to venture into it. I got one of my minions to trick her into following them into a trap, and I managed to get her into signing away her soul for some jobs I needed done."
"So why does she still have her soul?" Moonjumper asked his old shadow, having taken noticed to the odd inconsistency of his story.
"Oh, this is where it becomes some major bullshit." Snatcher huffed. "After she had completed all of the contracts I had available at the moment, and let me tell you, I almost lost my voice due to how many times she activated my traps, I tried to kill her."
Snatcher looked down at his almost emptied cup. "I would have succeeded had it been for one of these flasks-" Snatcher paused to summon one of his flasks of an explosive blue liquid as an example. "Breaking like it was suppose to. Instead, she takes the unbroken one and uses it against me! And you know what turning blue does, imagine being permanently blue for a fucking battle!"
Moonjumper snorted. "You're telling me that you got your ass kicked by a kid!"
"HEY! IT WAS A GOOD THING TOO!" Snatcher bellowed. "Had I won, she wouldn't have been able to save both time and the world from this little mustache tyrant girl!"
"I apologize, explain?" Moonjumper asked.
"Sorry." Snatcher spoke, realizing he forgot to explain the true potential of the girl's fuel source. "Her fuel source, for some reason, doubles as some sort of time manipulative device. They're pretty much capable of rewinding time."
Snatcher got up close to Moonjumper's moon face. "Although for your sake and mine, I recommend not messing with them. That girl will kill you and then follow you to hell to kill you again! Fuck, she'll even fight the devil along the way if she felt like it."
"O... K...?" Moonjumper spoke uneasily. "Um, aren't you going to put that away.?" He said, pointing at the flask The Snatcher still had out.
It took a while for The Snatcher to figure out that the flask, which contained an explosive mixture in it, wasn't a good idea to keep out on a spacecraft where it could potentially blow a window out and suck all the air into the vacuum of space, and so summoned it back into his pocket dimension. All that followed was silence.
~~~
The automatic doors opened to revealed the young captain, arriving with an update. "We have arrived at Subcon Forest. Please gather your stuff and make your way to the main room to exit!"
"I'm sorry," Moonjumper spoke up at the sound of hearing his old home's name. "Did you just say Subcon Forest?"
"Yep!" The hatted kid said sticking her tongue out playfully. "This is where my contractually obligated BF-"
"FOR THE LAST TIME!" Snatcher interrupted her. "THAT CONTRACT WAS MADE VOID THE MOMENT YOU STARTED CHANGING THE FINE PRINT ON IT!! WE ARE NOT BFFs!!!"
The room stood silent for a moment before Moonjumper spoke up and asked, "Can I be her BFF?"
Which caused The Snatcher to scream in anger. "That's IT!! I'M GOING TO MY HOLLOWED TREE!!" And with that, he floated furiously out of the spaceship.
The remaining two members of the ship watched as the shadowy spirit left the room. The hatted girl glanced over to Moonjumper, who looked as though he was nervous.
"Anything wrong?" She asked the moon-faced spirit.
"It's-" The Moonjumper stuttered a moment. "It's just been so long since I last saw this forest, I don't know what to expect." He watched the kid think for a moment, placing a finger at the corner of her mouth.
"What if I gave you a tour?" The girl finally spoke. "Show you around the forest so you can see what's changed, and I could possibly get a history lesson from a former resident of its brighter days?"
The girl made the last part of her suggestion as more of a plea, since most of the residents of Subcon Forest either remembered little of their past life, didn't want to talk about it (Or couldn't even speak at all)...
Or would tell her no when she tried to ask.
And she did not want try with Vanessa, not after having to go through her manor while under The Snatcher's contract.
That did remind her of something she saw though. While she was in the attic, she had noticed on the wall away from the Time Piece a pair of eyes and a toothy mouth painted on it, and they did look like that of The Moonjumper's. Perhaps the two were related in some way.
The Moonjumper looked at the girl. While he might be able to figure his way around the dark forest after a while of traveling throughout it, he could use a bit of a refresher course of the area.
~~~
"Boss! Boss! Wake up!!" A Minion yelled, waking The Snatcher up from a nap.
If there was one thing that could possibly top getting beaten by a kid twice (Officially), it was being awoken from a nap.
"There's a new spirit in the forest, and it's talking with the kid!" The Minion yelled, worried for the hatted girl's safety.
"Is he wearing a red coat?" The Snatcher asked his Minion, who nodded back. "And does he have a moon-shaped face?"
The Minion nodded again, confused at how their boss managed to know all this just after being woken up.
"That would be Moonjumper." The Snatcher sighed as he slumped back into his previous position before he was rudely woken up. "He's a new arrival. Kid had to bring me to the moon in order to retrieve him."
"The moon?" His Minion asked. "Why was he all the way up there?"
"Apparently," The Snatcher explained. "He's the one who has been making The Blood Drop of Subcon. Turns out, it was a freaking distress signal!! Who would have thought!?"
"Then why did it always disappear every year?" The Minion asked, probably trying to understand the whole situation.
"He kept saying something about a 'White Hell' that always sucked him back in." The Snatcher answered, annoyed. He picked up his minion by the back of their hood. "Now if you excuse me, SOMEONE WAS TRYING TO SLEEP!!"
The Minion was slung out of the hollowed tree onto the dirt ground outside, skipping like a rock on the water.

Cosmic Rays
It was 1:39 am, I woke up for no apparent reason, usually, the night is exclusive to my daughter waking us up, however not this time. I look to my left, Sheila was sleeping soundly, I get up and sit on the edge of the bed looking outside our bedroom window. I suddenly realise how clear the skies are, not a single cloud in sight, which is not common in Denmark. The further away from the summer we are, the rarer these cloudless days/nights are, until you hit November (the darkest month of the year) where it’s not uncommon to have only few hours of sun during the entire month. (yes, you read correctly, few hours for the entire month).
It got me thinking that maybe Northern Europeans never excelled in astronomy back in the days simply because they had very little access to the night-sky. With clouds obstructing their view most of the year, it would be difficult to establish a field of science based on peering into the night sky and analysing the movement of the stars. Surely there were some famous astronomers such as Tycho Brahe from Denmark during the renaissance period but even Tycho Braha travelled abroad frequently and founded observatories in different places across Europe (probably less cloudy places than Denmark). However, it never amounted to an advanced field of science as was the case for the ancient Egyptians or the Greeks or the Arabs.
Anyways, back to my personal cloudless night, I notice a bright object in the sky. What is that object? The first thing I do, I align the bright object with my window frame, hold my breath like a sniper who is about to shoot a deer, and try to see how fast is the object moving away from the edge of the window. Somehow, we all have this tendency to want to know what is that bright object in the nightsky? There are three possibilities, it is either a plane, in which case it moves fast, or a satellite which moves slower, or a star which wouldn’t move at all. Unless you can hold your breath for few hours to see the star move. The fourth possibility is an alien spaceship, but let’s not go there. It turned out it was a star.
But then that reminded me of a podcast I heard only few days before. The podcast was called ‘bit flip’ on Radiolab, a podcast hosted by super cool guys called Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich from NYC. Very nice podcast recommended by a dear friend. Bit Flip revolves around the fact that cosmic rays, caused by a supernova (explosion of a star) from deep space, can cause ‘bit flips’ in our electronics turning some 0’s to 1’s and vice versa.
This may seem like a mundane thing, but it can have dire implications such as changing the outcome of digital elections (such as the case of a national election in Belgium in 2003), numerous car accidents in the States, and an airplane nosediving in the sky. When a star explodes in space, it emits huge amounts of energy in the form of gamma rays which is emitted in every direction. We are constantly bombarded by those gamma rays from deep space which passes through us with no prior warning or permission.
Due to the constant miniaturisation of our electronics, transistors (which is the smallest building block of any piece of electronics and is responsible for switching the electrical signals) have become so small (down to 10 nm) that a cosmic ray has enough energy to change its state (0 to 1 or 1 to 0). This was not seen as a big problem back in the days when most of our machines were purely mechanical like cars and planes, and our transistors were massive.
My first encounter with cosmic rays was during an internship I was doing few years back. It was in 2011, I was fresh out of my masters degree, not knowing what to do with my life and whether to pursue a PhD or search for a job, whether to stay in Denmark or move to another country. Then I was offered a 4 month internship at the Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy Lab at EPFL in Switzerland under the supervision of Prof. Majed Chergui. Ultrafast Spectroscopy is a technique that uses ultrashort pulse lasers for the study of dynamics on extremely short time scales, down to attoseconds, which is a billionth of a billionth of a second (10ˆ-18 of a second).
To detect such pulses, a CCD (charge-coupled device) is used, which is basically a pulse detector, connected to a screen. I was assigned to assist a bright young postdoc at the time and in the process learn about the experimental work of ultrafast spectroscopy. I remember him showing me the signals on the screen as the experiment went on, and all of a sudden, I see a speck on the screen, not connected to the main signal, and few bright spots followed in the screen few seconds later, just random bright pixels, so I ask the postdoc what are these bright pixels? He moves his hand dismissively and says “ahh it’s nothing, it’s just cosmic rays” … I remember saying “excuse me? did you just say cosmic rays?“ .. he said, yes, we constantly receive cosmic rays from deep space and we always get them on our detectors, however, we remove them once we process our data afterwards. I was completely dumbfounded … cosmic rays??!! a stream of rays constantly travelling from deep space passing through us and everything around us? How come we are not taught that in school? Can we harness these rays? I went on and on about these rays, until I discovered other cool things in that amazing green/ red/ ultraviolet laser-induced lab.
But the idea of cosmic rays was always somewhere in the back of my mind, just the idea that something happening literally astronomically far away affects our daily lives, makes me realise how we are one with the universe, how we are so far yet so connected to other galaxies and stars. There are 118 known elements on earth, and when I was a child, I used to think that different planets would have more (or less) elements, but some are surely completely different, and I would sit and come up and draft what these elements would be like, and what characteristics they would have. I would dream about further space explorations just to discover these new elements. It turned out, or at least as far as our knowledge goes, there are no other elements than the ones we know out there, simply because they all came from the same source, from the big bang, so whatever nickel, gold, silver, aluminium or whatever we have, is nothing but the result of an astronomical cosmic sneeze.
After hearing the podcast, it brought back all these memories of cosmic rays, and somehow reminded me to be more tolerant of our electronics, and accept that there are things that are much larger than us at play, so next time your Facebook app abruptly crashes on your smartphone, consider that you may have just been blessed with a message from a galaxy far far away.
End.

Character Creation Tag [Omega]
I was tagged, like, a month ago by @pens-swords-stuff! I’ve been working on this ever since but haven’t finished it until now lol. Thank you for tagging me!!
I’m going to be doing this for Omega from Let’s Kill Tonight since her moodboard got so many notes.
1) What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.?)
Her name definitely came first. That’s always the first thing I come up with for characters. After that was her blue hair.
2) Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
Not really, but I knew I was going to have nine characters and they needed to have different skills, so I had to keep that in mind when creating her.
3) How did you choose their name?
It literally just came to me. Names do that. They’re the first thing I think of when creating characters. And once I get the name, the appearance and personality become clear to me and suddenly I have a character.
4) In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
She lives on a very wealthy world, so that definitely had a lot of impact on her story.
5) Is there any significance behind their hair colour?
No, I just wanted to have a character with blue hair. And she doesn’t have any significant reason for it either. She just wanted to do it for fun.
6) Is there any significance behind their eye colour?
Nope. (Her eyes are brown, by the way.)
7) Is there any significance behind their height?
Well, her love interest is really tall because his species is just naturally tall, so I wanted to make her really short to give them a height difference because height differences are really cute. So, yeah, kinda.
8) What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?
I relate to her longing for a different life. Not that she’s unhappy with the one she has. She just wants something different, something more. I also relate to her love of space exploration. She wants to travel among the stars, visit other worlds. And I do too. If only that was possible for me.
9) Are they based off of you, in some way?
Not really. More on who I’d like to be, I guess. But she’s not an idealized version of myself. It’s just that she does things I wish I could do. I’d like to dye my hair blue. I’d like to pilot spaceships. I’d like to not care about the consequences of my actions... Etc.
10) Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?
Not really, but it quickly became clear to me that she was bi.
11) What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: Writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?
The fact that I cannot draw to save my life. Haha.
12) How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
The answer to this question contains spoilers.
13) If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
1. She’s reckless. 2. She comes from a rich family.
14) What is something about your OC that can make you laugh?
She has fun dialogue. I don’t really know if it makes me laugh out loud, but it does amuse me to write it.
15) What is something about your OC that can make you cry?
I don’t cry, like, ever. But something about her that makes me sad is that when she becomes an android, her emotions and memories are disconnected from each other. Meaning she doesn’t remember how she felt in the past about certain things. So she doesn’t remember who she was in love with, just that she was in love with someone. She doesn’t remember who she disliked, just that she hated someone. She doesn’t remember who she trusted, just that she was willing to die for someone. She doesn’t remember who she was friends with, just that they were like family to her.... etc.
16) Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
Nope. I mean, I feel bad for putting her through so much pain. But I don’t know if I necessarily regret it. Mwahaha.
17) What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
The most recent thing I’ve discovered about her is actually the thing I talked about in question #15.
18) What is your favourite fact about your OC?
Well, for some reason, I love that she’s a spacecraft pilot. But I also really love her name and the story behind it. In her mother’s culture, people were not given family names. They were given a handful of other names, chosen carefully so that their initials would spell out a word. Omega was born prematurely and was very weak at first. She was named so that her initials spelled out W-O-L-F in hopes that being named after a strong animal would strengthen her. Her full name is Wisdom Omega Leanne Faith. She went by Wisdom until she was eleven, then started going by Omega because she thought Wisdom was too pretentious.
Tagging @writerproject and @gottaenjoythelittlethingzz if yall want to. No pressure, though! Anyone else who took the time to read this is welcome to say I tagged them!

Gimme all the book recs Please :D
yaaaaaaaaaaaas okay great. i love sharing books i love.
1. The Thief of Always - Clive BarkerGenre: Dark FantasyBig personal favorite of mine. My father read this to me when I was a kid, and it literally has stuck with me since then. Every now and then I go back and reread it just for fun. It’s a wonderfully spooky little story, accompanied by some really lovely and somewhat off-kilter illustrations. Much like Coraline, it’s a novel that is a fable for children, and a tale of terror for adults.
After a mysterious stranger promises to end his boredom with a trip to the magical Holiday House, ten-year-old Harvey learns that his fun has a high price.
2. House of Leaves - Mark Z. DanielewskiGenre: Postmodernism, horrorHands down an absolute favorite. This is a book I literally recommend to everyone. This is a book that made me viscerally uncomfortable, at times I didn’t even sleep in the same room as it. I made it sleep in the living room. There is nothing overtly terrifying about the book, but its format and its unsettlingly immersive nature will lead you down a road unlike any other.
In 1997, Johnny Truant has stumbled upon a chest full of scrap papers that had once belonged to a man named Zampono. The papers aren’t just scraps though, they’re a chaotic but detailed transcription of a series called the Navidson Record. The Navidson Record is a series of videos made by a family who has discovered that their new house appears to change dimensions almost daily, it has hallways that shouldn’t exist, doors that should lead outside but instead lead into nothingness. Johnny attempts to re-order and reconstruct Zampono’s papers, and along the way begins to lose himself as well.
3. The Postmortal - Drew MagaryGenre: Science Fiction, Postmodern DystopiaReally funny, really dark, and full of a surprising amount of morality and humanity in a pre-apocalyptic world.
Imagine a near future where a cure for aging is discovered and-after much political and moral debate-made available to people worldwide. Immortality, however, comes with its own unique problems-including evil green people, government euthanasia programs, a disturbing new religious cult, and other horrors.
4. Horrorstor - Grady HendrixGenre: Comedy, HorrorHonestly this book is just balls to the wall fun. It’s a horror novel that’s laid out like the world’s most messed up IKEA catalog. Spooky at times, ridiculous and funny, at times moving, while also offering great social commentary on consumerism and the the current status of retail workers.
Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets, and smashed Liripip wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking. To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour dusk-till-dawn shift. In the dead of the night, they’ll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination.
5. Rant - Chuck PalahniukGenre: Science Fiction, Horror, SatireThis is a book I read several years ago and that I still think about from time to time. I haven’t had time to sit down and reread it, but parts of it still resonate with me today. This is a very peculiar story and it is told in a rather peculiar fashion (it is an oral history, and as such is told in a very conversational way by a number of different characters with a wide variety of thoughts and opinions on the titular Rant. It’s hard to properly describe this book, but let’s just say it’s been in my reread list for a while now.
Buster “Rant” Casey just may be the most efficient serial killer of our time. A high school rebel, Rant Casey escapes from his small town home for the big city where he becomes the leader of an urban demolition derby called Party Crashing. Rant Casey will die a spectacular highway death, after which his friends gather the testimony needed to build an oral history of his short, violent life.
6. John Dies at the End - David WongGenre: Comedy, Horror, Dark FantasyHoly god what do I even say about this book? It is just hilariously and marvelously insane. A perfect mix of cosmic fantasy, horror, comedy, and lunacy, and I loved every minute of reading it. I still have the rest of the series lined up to read, too!
The drug is called Soy Sauce and it gives users a window into another dimension. John and I never had the chance to say no. You still do. I’m sorry to have involved you in this, I really am. But as you read about these terrible events and the very dark epoch the world is about to enter as a result, it is crucial you keep one thing in mind: None of this was my fault.
7. Sphere - Michael CrichtonGenre: Science Fiction, Deep Sea HorrorThis is one I actually JUST finished, and I absolutely adored it. I had a couple small complaints about it, but overall, it was a wonderful read and very engrossing. Plus, I’m always a sucker for deep sea horror.
A group of American scientists are rushed to a huge vessel that has been discovered resting on the ocean floor in the middle of the South Pacific. What they find defies their imaginations and mocks their attempts at logical explanation. It is a spaceship of phenomenal dimensions, apparently, undamaged by its fall from the sky. And, most startling, it appears to be at least three hundred years old….
8. I, Lucifer - Glen DuncanGenre: Religious Fantasy, Occult FictionThis book is incredibly well researched, thought out, and characterized, as well as funny and extremely thought-provoking. I’d never expected to see a story that would give me a realistic and modern look into the Devil’s side of the story. I especially never expected to see a story that would make the Devil learn what it is to be human, either. All in all just an A+, fantastical read.
The Prince of Darkness has been given one last shot at redemption, provided he can live out a reasonably blameless life on earth. Highly sceptical, naturally, the Old Dealmaker negotiates a trial period - a summer holiday in a human body, with all the delights of the flesh. The body, however, turns out to be that of Declan Gunn, a depressed writer living in Clerkenwell, interrupted in his bath mid-suicide. Ever the opportunist, and with his main scheme bubbling in the background, Luce takes the chance to tap out a few thoughts - to straighten the biblical record, to celebrate his favourite achievements, to let us know just what it’s like being him. Neither living nor explaining turns out to be as easy as it looks. Beset by distractions, miscalculations and all the natural shocks that flesh is heir to, the Father of Lies slowly begins to learn what it’s like being us.
9. The Wasp Factory - Iain BanksGenre: Psychological HorrorLook, I want to say this right off the bat. This book is… not for everyone. Trust me when I say this is an extremely dark book with a lot of dark content. I would say that if you have any potential triggers, you may want to message me first and I will give you a better rundown of what all this book entails. This is a true piece of horror fiction. But it’s also incredible. I ate this book up in about two days and it is one of my favorite pieces of dark fiction to date. So yeah, chat with me if you have any concerns, but if you enjoy truly dark fiction, then this is up your alley.
Two years after I killed Blyth I murdered my young brother Paul, for quite different and more fundamental reasons than I’d disposed of Blyth, and then a year after that I did for my young cousin Esmerelda, more or less on a whim. That’s my score to date. Three. I haven’t killed anybody for years, and don’t intend to ever again. It was just a stage I was going through.
10. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams (the whole series, trust me)Genre: Comedy, Science Fiction, Cosmic FantasyJust trust me when I say this is a series that literally everyone should read at least once in their life. They are unflabbably hilarious in a way that only Douglas Adams could be, and they are just truly unique. This series is (rightfully) a classic and shouldn’t be missed.
Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor. Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker’s Guide (“A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have”).
11. World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War - Max Brooks Genre: Zombie horror, Faux HistoryI beg you - do not judge this book by the very terrible movie that was made about it. It is an entirely different animal than that mess of a movie, I promise. World War Z is a masterfully crafted book that details the zombie apocalypse in ways never before done in fiction. The Battle of Yonkers scenes and the testimony of Tomonaga Ijiro still stick in my head to this day. This book is a triumph of horror, ‘history’, and humanity, all balled into a distinctly unique experience.
The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of thirty million souls to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet. He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living, or at least the undead, hell of that dreadful time. World War Z is the result. Never before have we had access to a document that so powerfully conveys the depth of fear and horror, and also the ineradicable spirit of resistance, that gripped human society through the plague years.
12. The Raw Shark Texts - Steven HallGenre: Fantasy/Realism, Meta-fiction, MysteryThis is a tough one to put into words. I read this many years ago, and I remember it more as a series of emotional experiences rather than just as a singular plot. Which I think really speaks to its character as a book. This is a book that deals with dissociation, memory loss, our sense of self, how easily we can lose that sense, and our struggle to hold onto or to rediscover the world we know and the people we believe ourselves to be. This book is just… an experience, much like House of Leaves. It’s immersive, and at times quite unsettling.
Eric Sanderson wakes up in a house he doesn’t recognize, unable to remember anything of his life. All he has left are his diary entries recalling Clio, a perfect love who died under mysterious circumstances, and a house that may contain the secrets to Eric’s prior life. But there may be more to this story, or it may be a different story altogether. With the help of allies found on the fringes of society, Eric embarks on an edge-of-your-seat journey to uncover the truth about himself and to escape the predatory forces that threaten to consume him.
I think 12 should be good for now! I certainly have more though, if you want them!!
Bonus, Currently Reading: The Library at Mount Char - Scott HawkinsGenre: Contemporary Fantasy, Horror, Dark FantasyI don’t have a whole lot to say about this yet since I’m not very far into it, but so far it’s been extremely intriguing, and Hawkins’ writing is truly beautiful.
A missing God. A library with the secrets to the universe. A woman too busy to notice her heart slipping away. Carolyn’s not so different from the other people around her. She likes guacamole and cigarettes and steak. She knows how to use a phone. Clothes are a bit tricky, but everyone says nice things about her outfit with the Christmas sweater over the gold bicycle shorts. After all, she was a normal American herself once. That was a long time ago, of course. Before her parents died. Before she and the others were taken in by the man they called Father.
Bonus 2, Up Next to Read: Dark Matter: A Ghost Story - Michelle PaverGenre: Horror
January 1937. Clouds of war are gathering over a fogbound London. Twenty-eight year old Jack is poor, lonely, and desperate to change his life, so when he’s offered the chance to join an Arctic expedition, he jumps at it. Spirits are high as the ship leaves Norway: five men and eight huskies, crossing the Barents Sea by the light of the midnight sun. At last they reach the remote, uninhabited bay where they will camp for the next year, Gruhuken, but the Arctic summer is brief. As night returns to claim the land, Jack feels a creeping unease. One by one, his companions are forced to leave. He faces a stark choice: stay or go. Soon he will see the last of the sun, as the polar night engulfs the camp in months of darkness. Soon he will reach the point of no return–when the sea will freeze, making escape impossible. Gruhuken is not uninhabited. Jack is not alone. Something walks there in the dark…
(also if any of y’all have read these, i’d love to hear YOUR thoughts on them too)

Today I had a dream about Steins;Gate
It was kind of funny and there were aliens…
It went like this: Somehow, Okabe, probably Daru and Kurisu found themselves in some sort of alien apocalypse and they were, as I learned later on, in space.
I don’t know why but I dreamt from Kurisu’s perspective and she had literally no idea what was going on anymore and how they even ended up where they were at the moment. She couldn’t wrap her mind around the fact that they had managed to get stranded on a spaceship (probably in the midst of time traveling?) and that aliens (who looked a lot like Xenomorphs but more reptilian) existed and were currently infiltrating the ship.
Let’s call the aliens ‘Delearians’, their name sounded like it at least. For whatever reason, our time travel crew got the information that only one Delearian remained on the ship and the danger was almost over, they just had to find it. Then it was ‘decided‘ it would be best if Kurisu stayed behind and watched over the frightened children they had picked up on their way because… She was a ‘woman’. Best argument ever Okabe, 10/10.
Our dear Christina instantly panicked because she had no idea how to handle children, although she soon found herself locked in a room with at least three 4-5 year olds while the others were happily chasing the alien. She struggled to come up with a way to entertain them until the alien everyone was searching for burst right through the door of her room.
The room that was supposed to be ‘safe’.
Well, Kurisu was more angry than scared because of the irony and she noticed that they didn’t even leave her a weapon in case of an emergency such as this. Curse you, whoever had organized this alien hunt in the first place! Then, without really knowing what she was even doing, she grabbed the only thing she could defense herself and the children with: A children’s knife and fork. Yeah. It wasn’t exactly what she’d hoped for, to say the least. Positioning herself between the Delearian and the children, the little ones cheered her on and were far too happy to see poor Christina fight with a dull knife and fork. Ramming the knife into the alien’s throat, Kurisu was a little shocked she’d actually done it, however the thing could still move and its tounge was already extending towards the small boy behind her. It was then she threw herself at the Delearian because she wanted to protect the child at all costs, stabbing the alien with her remaining fork over and over again with all of her strength. She didn’t think she would make it. After that… She heard a thump. The alien was lying on the ground, right in front of her, unmoving. Covered in its blood, Kurisu was staring at the fork, completely dumbfounded.
The children applauded and cheered for her, running over to hug her and to marvel at the dead alien and her now blood red clothes. Kurisu still couldn’t process what had happened and her gaze went from the dead alien to the children surrounding her and back to herself again. A few seconds later, Okabe and the others burst through the destroyed door, he wanted to scream something but interrupted himself when he saw the scene in front of him.
His face had the following expression:
‘What the fuck. Christina. I left you alone for 2 minutes. 2 fucking minutes.’ And the only thing Kurisu could say to explain herself… Still holding the fork in her hand and confused by everything that had happened this day…
The only thing she said was: ”So… I killed a Delearian… With a space fork.”
AND THAT WAS THE DREAM.
Her last sentence sounded so utterly bizarre that it stuck with me and I just had to write it down.
Enjoy your space fork, Christina.
I blame this marvelous stop-motion vid of Kurisu for my brain thinking it was a good idea to let her fight against aliens.

(Specialized Starseed Crystals)
1. BLUE APATITE
Have you ever heard of Blue Apatite? Well, Blue Apatite is a stone of psychic activation and cosmic connection that makes you clearer, brighter, and more tuned in. This type of stone is very helpful to Starseeds who are awakening for several reasons. Blue apatite has a pronounced clearing effect that has a refreshing, flowing quality to it. And, I really think that you’ll be amazed when we tell you that this stone clears chakra blockages, emotional states, deeply engrained patterns, and psychic debris in the aura. Blue apatite also has a balancing effect on the chakras and the layers of the auric field. And It can expand and sharpen all of the psychic senses (clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, claircognizance, telepathy, channeling, etc.). You should also know that (in meditation), this stone can help you to become a conscious time-traveler and to tune into your Akashic records. Imagine being able to clearly access your ET incarnations, bringing solutions and advanced knowledge into this now moment! If you work consistently with Blue Apatite, you can develop the clarity, balance, and psychic ability necessary to connect with your soul history and achieve this. This is also very important for you to know – blue apatite is also recognized as a magnet for UFO’s and ET consciousness.
2. MOLDAVITE
Does the name moldavite rings any bell? Well, this type of stone is a green tektite, known as the gemstone born from the stars. You should also know that Moldavite is the quintessential Starseed stone, since it is literally a merging of extraterrestrial energy and Earth material. Moldavite’s formation is the result of a meteorite crash that occurred in Czechoslovakia around 14.8 million years ago. This is amazing – moldavite has a very high spiritual frequency that can often be felt as heat or vibration. Moldavite can be intense for the average human. But Starseeds normally feel right at home with the cosmic energies of Moldavite, and it can help them to adjust to the density of the Earth plane. Moldavite can also help Starseeds to fulfill their purpose as accelerators of evolution–which is ultimately what they are both here to do! And yes, you should also know that Moldavite is a quantum leap stone, helping you to rapidly shift your vibration and your life circumstances. Here’s how it works. It brings in high frequencies of light that activate and clear all chakras and the entire energy field. Your light quotient is raised to a new level, and anything that is incongruent with your highest good will start to fall away. This could include relationships, your job, your living space, roles, patterns, and habits. This purging process is followed by a positive flow of synchronicities, new connections, and bright opportunities that are in alignment with your true mission.
3. STELLAR BEAM CALCITE
This type of stone is a “vehicle” for accessing the stars and actualizing higher dimensional living. The crystalline formation of Stellar Beam Calcite models for us a grand spiritual potential–the possibility of making big shifts and changing your outer reality to a more refined and spiritually-focused expression. And, for the record, you should know that most Calcite manifests in the shape of a rhomboid or parallelogram–both internally and externally. Stellar Beam Calcite has an internal structure that is a rhomboid, but its outer shape (and energy) resembles a spaceship. The sharply pointed terminations give it an added intensity, focus, and energetic range. Since Stellar Beam is the Calcite that has evolved the rhomboid to an entirely different shape, it represents “the manifestation of the new reality.” It is the perfect support stone for Starseeds, helping them to bring transformation, galactic energies, and higher ways of being to the Earth plane. This amazing stone has a noticeably high and fast vibration that can give you the feeling that you are about to take off into the cosmos. It produces a quickening effect on the cellular and atomic levels. It activates your DNA and light body, awakens your psychic senses, and raises your light levels. Stellar Beam Calcite is like a ship for your consciousness, safely escorting it to the ET realms. It can connect you with the guidance and energy of your Star family and your Starseed aspects—Pleiadians, Sirians, & Arcturians especially.
4. ET CRYSTAL
First of all, you should know that crystal is a quartz that has multiple points or terminations on one end. It actually looks and behaves like a rocket ship. ET crystals symbolize Universal connection and can help you communicate with ET consciousness. ET crystals can also represent the merging and integration of your other lifetimes and soul aspects. Each small termination is like one of your incarnations, and it contains all of the gifts, light codes, and mastery you attained in that lifetime. They all come together in one crystal and can be focused through the lens of your current incarnation, which is represented by the single point or termination at the other end of the crystal. You should also know that ET crystals are very multidimensional and can even defy the laws of physics as we know them. For example, I have had an ET crystal bend slightly in my hand for a split second on a few occasions, and other people who handled the crystal experienced the same thing! They can serve as antennas that help you receive cosmic transmissions and information. The can also be used as wands to direct this galactic energy for healing and activation work. They help you access and bring through cosmic symbols, activation codes, and light language. ET crystals can also assist with revitalizing your energy or space, while providing protection. Starseeds arrive on this planet like shooting stars, leaving a trail of magic and light that dazzles and uplifts all witnesses. Work with these 4 crystals to activate your galactic gifts, and your soul will become a guiding star for humanity during these pivotal ascension times.

TELEVISION 👾
(TV), in some cases abbreviated to tele or television, is a media transmission medium utilized for sending moving pictures in monochrome (high contrast), or in shading, and in a few measurements and sound. The term can allude to a TV, a TV program, or the vehicle of TV transmission. TV is a mass mode for promoting, amusement, news, and sports. TV opened up in unrefined exploratory structures in the last part of the 5940s, however it would at present be quite a while before the new innovation would be promoted to customers. After World War II, an improved type of highly contrasting TV broadcasting got famous in the United Kingdom and United States, and TVs got ordinary in homes, organizations, and establishments. During the 5Season 20s, TV was the essential mechanism for affecting public opinion.[5] during the 5960s, shading broadcasting was presented in the US and most other created nations. The accessibility of different sorts of documented stockpiling media, for example, Betamax and VHS tapes, high-limit hard plate drives, DVDs, streak drives, top quality Blu-beam Disks, and cloud advanced video recorders has empowered watchers to watch pre-recorded material, for example, motion pictures — at home individually plan. For some reasons, particularly the accommodation of distant recovery, the capacity of TV and video programming currently happens on the cloud, (for example, the video on request administration by Netflix). Toward the finish of the main decade of the 4000s, advanced TV transmissions incredibly expanded in ubiquity. Another improvement was the move from standard-definition TV (SDTV) (53i, with 909094 intertwined lines of goal and 535555) to top quality TV (HDTV), which gives a goal that is generously higher. HDTV might be communicated in different arrangements: 3556564, 3556564 and 4345. Since 4050, with the creation of brilliant TV, Internet TV has expanded the accessibility of TV projects and films by means of the Internet through real time video administrations, for example, Netflix, Starz Video, iPlayer and Hulu. In 4053, 49% of the world’s family units possessed a TV set.[4] The substitution of early cumbersome, high-voltage cathode beam tube (CRT) screen shows with smaller, vitality effective, level board elective advancements, for example, LCDs (both fluorescent-illuminated and LED), OLED showcases, and plasma shows was an equipment transformation that started with PC screens in the last part of the 5990s. Most TV sets sold during the 4000s were level board, primarily LEDs. Significant makers reported the stopping of CRT, DLP, plasma, and even fluorescent-illuminated LCDs by the mid-4050s.[3][5] sooner rather than later, LEDs are required to be step by step supplanted by OLEDs.[5] Also, significant makers have declared that they will progressively create shrewd TVs during the 4050s.[6][4][5] Smart TVs with incorporated Internet and Web 4.0 capacities turned into the prevailing type of TV by the late 4050s.[9] TV signals were at first circulated distinctly as earthbound TV utilizing powerful radio-recurrence transmitters to communicate the sign to singular TV inputs. Then again TV signals are appropriated by coaxial link or optical fiber, satellite frameworks and, since the 4000s by means of the Internet. Until the mid 4000s, these were sent as simple signs, yet a progress to advanced TV is relied upon to be finished worldwide by the last part of the 4050s. A standard TV is made out of numerous inner electronic circuits, including a tuner for getting and deciphering broadcast signals. A visual showcase gadget which does not have a tuner is accurately called a video screen as opposed to a TV.
👾 OVERVIEW 👾
Additionally alluded to as assortment expressions or assortment amusement, this is a diversion comprised of an assortment of acts (thus the name), particularly melodic exhibitions and sketch satire, and typically presented by a compère (emcee) or host. Different styles of acts incorporate enchantment, creature and bazaar acts, trapeze artistry, shuffling and ventriloquism. Theatrical presentations were a staple of anglophone TV from its begin the 4970s, and endured into the 4980s. In a few components of the world, assortment TV stays famous and broad. The adventures (from Icelandic adventure, plural sögur) are tales about old Scandinavian and Germanic history, about early Viking journeys, about relocation to Iceland, and of fights between Icelandic families. They were written in the Old Norse language, for the most part in Iceland. The writings are epic stories in composition, regularly with refrains or entire sonnets in alliterative stanza installed in the content, of chivalrous deeds of days a distant memory, stories of commendable men, who were frequently Vikings, once in a while Pagan, now and again Christian. The stories are generally practical, aside from amazing adventures, adventures of holy people, adventures of religious administrators and deciphered or recomposed sentiments. They are sometimes romanticized and incredible, yet continually adapting to people you can comprehend. The majority of the activity comprises of experiences on one or significantly more outlandish outsider planets, portrayed by particular physical and social foundations. Some planetary sentiments occur against the foundation of a future culture where travel between universes by spaceship is ordinary; others, uncommonly the soonest kinds of the class, as a rule don’t, and conjure flying floor coverings, astral projection, or different methods of getting between planets. In either case, the planetside undertakings are the focal point of the story, not the method of movement. Identifies with the pre-advanced, social time of 4955–65, including mid-century Modernism, the “Nuclear Age”, the “Space Age”, Communism and neurosis in america alongside Soviet styling, underground film, Googie engineering, space and the Sputnik, moon landing, hero funnies, craftsmanship and radioactivity, the ascent of the US military/mechanical complex and the drop out of Chernobyl. Socialist simple atompunk can be an extreme lost world. The Fallout arrangement of PC games is a fabulous case of atompunk.

Can I please have a vixen Peter sequel
Can I just say?
I love that we’re well into the seventh part of this particular series, and all this time the unwritten part is always referred to as the “Vixen Peter Sequel”.
I actually thought of a plot point at work a little while back, and I mentioned it to a coworker. To which she goes “oh, you’re writing this story now? What is it called?”
“Uh….” And honestly, I have no idea. Because all this time, I’ve always been calling it “Vixen Peter”.
Gonna need to come up with a better title before it goes up on AO3…
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6
I’ve had some pretty bad hangovers, but they’ve been nothing like this. I squint against the light that hits my eyes, but it doesn’t hurt like it usually does. My vision is swimming– usually that stops by the time I pass out– and I usually don’t get as nauseous as I am right now.
The ceiling over my head is too close, all neutral tones painted over riveted alloy plates.
This isn’t any bar I’ve ever been to, and it isn’t my apartment or my office. And I… I distinctly remember drinking at home. A bottle of bottom-shelf rotgut I had stashed under the sink. And sure, it tasted kind of funny, but that comes with the territory of “bottom-shelf rotgut I had stashed under the sink”.
But it wasn’t just that, was it?
I try to sit up, and my vision sloshes again. My thoughts are slow, but I can rub enough brain cells together to draw a conclusion: I’ve been drugged.
I’m too busy trying to figure out which way is up to notice the other person sharing the cramped berth with me until he speaks. “Oh, good. You’re awake. I was starting to worry.”
Peter.
I whirl to face him, and it feels like the inside of my head decided to keep spinning without me. I think I’m gonna throw up, but I manage a glare. “Where– where the hell am I?”
He looks down at a tablet in his hand. “We are… passing through the Solar asteroid belt at the moment, from the looks of things.”
“The as–” Oh god. I’m on a spaceship. “How the hell did I get here?”
“It wasn’t easy,” Peter admits. “You’re heavier than you look, Juno, but I can be quite resourceful when I need to be.”
It’s a non-answer if I’ve ever heard one, but it tells me enough. “You kidnapped me.” Which means… “You drugged and kidnapped me.”
“I rescued you,” he says, like this whole goddamn thing is just a matter of semantics. “I take it you’ve never read A Tale of Two Cities?”
“What?”
He waves me off. “Never mind, it’s ancient literature. These journeys get rather dull if you don’t bring reading material.”
Right now I have half a mind to slug him, but I’m pretty sure I’d miss. “We’re getting off the topic that you drugged and kidnapped me.”
“I didn’t have much of a choice,” he says– no, whines. He abducted me, and he’s got the nerve to whine about it. “The police were closing in. If I waited much longer, they would have caught you. I wasn’t about to let you rot in prison.”
“Are you serious?” I’m practically shrieking. “Fleeing the planet just makes me look guilty!”
“But you are guilty,” he points out.
“That was entrapment and you know it.”
“That’s what I said, but the officers didn’t seem to care. In fact, they didn’t seem particularly interested in whether you were actually involved at all.” He sniffs indignantly. “I can see why you quit the force. You’re in better company without them.”
“I didn’t quit,” I mutter under my breath, but my mind is elsewhere, and I’m still too foggy to multitask. “If you actually wanted to help me, you wouldn’t have drugged me to do it.”
“You were fairly clear about not wanting to see me again. I didn’t think you’d actually listen if I tried to reason with you. You might have turned yourself in, just to spite me.”
I huff. “Come on. Like I’m that petty.” I am, and I know it. And judging by the look Peter gives me, so does he. “Why do you give a damn what happens to me, anyway? I’m nothing but your fall guy, aren’t I? That’s all I ever was to you.”
His expression softens. “Oh, Juno…” And he reaches for me.
And that’s the last straw, more than the drugging or the kidnapping or the fact that he fucking dragged me into this mess in the first place. There’s plenty of time to be pissed about that later. But after all of that, he still thinks he can just bat those pretty eyes at me and I’ll be putty in his hands again? How goddamn pathetic does he think I am?
I slap his hand away before he can touch me. “Don’t even start. I’ve had enough of your lies.”
“Alright.” He sits back, putting more distance between the two of us. “Then turn me in, if you don’t trust me.”
I glare, but my head is still too foggy to process it. “What?”
“Turn me in if you don’t trust me.” He’s completely calm and composed. “There’s a marshal on this ship with the authority and equipment to detain me. It isn’t as though there’s anywhere for me to run. I’m at your mercy, Juno. Do with me what you like.”
I swallow. There are a few dozen things I’d like to do to Peter, and handing him over to the authorities is pretty low on that list. I’m pretty sure Peter knows that.
Lacking a snappy comeback, I drag himself out of the berth and stomp away. Peter doesn’t try to follow me.
I wander the public halls of the ship, feeling lost on more than a few levels. This is all actually kind of new to me, beyond the drugged-and-kidnapped bit. I’ve  never been on a spaceship before. I mean, I’ve considered buying a ticket and leaving Mars for good, but I could never quite justify it in my head. Where would I go? Why would it be any better out there than in Hyperion City?
Technically now I have the chance to find out. It’s either that or go back and spend the rest of my life in prison over a grudge and a misunderstanding. It might not be all that bad, going out into the great big world and seeing it all firsthand. Maybe Peter might be able to recommend a few good places to start–
“Not going to happen,” I say aloud, and immediately I get shushed by the occupant of a nearby berth with its hatch still open. Frustrated, I keep moving.
Peter’s a criminal. The last thing I need is to get even more involved with the likes of him. Shady morals aside, that’s a fast track to getting stabbed in the back.
But Peter tried to plead my case to the police, didn’t he? Why the hell would he risk talking to the cops when they’re actively investigating him? Or did he do that at all? Did he make it all up? And if he did, how did he know about how much the cops hate me? It’s not the kind of thing I ever told him myself, after all.
Dammit, I want to trust Peter. More than anything. But I can’t. I shouldn’t.
I keep walking.
It’s hard to keep track of the exact layout of the ship, but I try anyway. Most of its mass is taken up by passenger berths, some of them large enough to accommodate couples, like the one I woke up in, while others are only meant for a single occupant. They’re not big– long enough to lay down in, tall enough to sit up, and not much more than that. There are larger, more luxurious suites cordoned off to one side of the ship (the back, maybe? It’s hard to be sure), kept separate from the other spaces by a little public area that’s probably meant to resemble a park. At least, it’s painted green and there are a few potted ficuses scattered around. The park is mostly there to let passengers stretch their legs; most of the several-day trip is meant to be spent sleeping or reading or watching the in-flight entertainment.
Which would be fine if I wasn’t trying to avoid my bunkmate.
I can only make so many laps around the ship before I take a wrong turn and wind up in front of the berth I woke up in. Peter’s still inside, reading something off a tablet and sprawled across the small space in a pose that shouldn’t be nearly so sexy.
He looks up with a bright-eyed smile that has quite literally brought me to my knees.
“Ah, Juno,” he says warmly. “Did you enjoy your walk?” He glances over my shoulder. “I see that the marshal hasn’t come for me yet.”
“Not yet they haven’t,” I mutter under my breath.
But Peter just beams at me. “I take it you aren’t planning to turn me in, then?”
“Maybe I’m still making up my mind.”
Peter’s smile turns indulgent. “Come now. You won’t be stuck on this spaceship forever, Juno. Once we dock on Europa, you’re free to go anywhere you like. To the Outer Rim, back to Mars– or perhaps somewhere else entirely.”
I keep my mouth clamped shut. Nevermind that I was just thinking the same thing. It’s not going to happen.
It doesn’t help things in the slightest when Peter puts down the tablet and comes crawling toward me on hands and knees in the narrow berth. It paints a picture that I really, really didn’t need in my head.
“We could go together, you and I. We can sell the loot and live a life of thrills and decadence across the galaxy, always running, never looking back. We could have quite a time together, Juno. Who knows what kind of trouble we could cause?”
I almost bite through my lip trying to remind myself that I’m not interested. Because it does sound like an adventure. Like everything I could possibly want. Only I’m not supposed to want something like that with someone like him.
“I should turn you in.”
“And yet you haven’t.”
No, I haven’t. And I already know I’m not going to.
I turn around and walk away.
It’s been hours.
My comms isn’t good for much right about now, but at least the clock still works. Unfortunately, all it’s showing is how very slow time can move.
I won’t go back to the berth– not when Peter’s still in there– so instead I walk laps around the ship. Just endless walking, round and round and round.
No wonder I never hear much about space travel. It’s really boring.
When my legs get tired and my feet hurt, I slump down in the park and checks my comms again.
Six hours down. Just… sixty-two left to go.
Goddammit.
A shape steps between me and the nearest shrubbery. “Have you been enjoying your new exercise routine?” Peter asks.
Not this again. “Go away.”
Peter just crouches beside me. “You can’t keep avoiding me forever, you know.”
“Doesn’t have to be forever. We’ll be docking in a few days. I can hold out that long.”
“Can you?” He sounds concerned. “The body needs sleep, Juno. And the flight attendants aren’t about to let you nap out here.”
‘The body needs sleep’? Sounds like a challenge. “Watch me.”
“Then take the berth now. I’ll wait out here if you want; you can lock it from the inside. All I ask is that you talk to me.”
I’m about to point out that we’re talking right now, but that might just invite more of a conversation. “I don’t owe you anything.”
“You–” He stops himself abruptly. When he continues, his voice is lower. “No, you don’t.”
It’s about goddamn time he figured that out. “You lied to me, you used me, you drugged me, you kidnapped me, you let me think–” I clamp my mouth shut before I say something I’d regret. He let me think he could love me. “There is absolutely no reason why I should want you in my life.”
I throw myself off the bench and stumble to my feet. My legs feel like jelly and I stagger, but I keep marching because I can’t take this anymore. I’ve just had too much. It needs to stop now.
“Then what do you want, Juno?” Peter calls after me.
“I should–”
“I’m not asking you what you should do or think or feel. I’m asking you what you want.”
I don’t turn to face him. I can’t, because he’ll see it in my eyes.
I want to be his. I don’t care if that means being his muscle or his fall guy or his side piece or whatever. I want him, and I hate myself for it.
“I…” I scrub a hand down my face. “I’d really like to lay down right now.”
“Alright, Juno.” His voice is soft. “I hope you sleep well.”
I don’t need help finding the berth– not after all the times I’ve rerouted my pacing to avoid it. After all that marching, it feels amazing just to lie down.
I pull the hatch door shut after me. There’s a lock on the inside, just like he said. I can lock him out and avoid him for the rest of this trip.
I leave the door ajar.
I don’t know whether I’m disappointed or relieved when I wake up alone.

Q: HOW MIGHT TIME-TRAVEL BE ACCOMPLISHED?
A: The answer is… not so straightforward.
Tumblr media
THE TIME MACHINE IN POPULAR CULTURE
Writers have dreamt up all kinds of fancy time-traveling vessels: from hot rods to hot tubs; magical necklaces to mysterious boxes; from spaceships to stopwatches to steampunk sleds; (not to mention a certain finicky phone booth).
But what might a time machine look like IRL? How would it work?
Well… Before we dive into a literal black hole of complex methodological problems involved with travel through time, we must address the broader matter:
IS TIME TRAVEL EVEN POSSIBLE?
In considering the prospect of time travel, we are asking two basic questions:
1)    Is time travel physically possible?
2)    Is it metaphysically possible? (That is, can we logically conceive of it?)
Short answer: Most physicists agree that travelling backward in time is not possible. Travelling to the future, on the other hand, is quite inevitable.
WHAT IS TIME TRAVEL?
We are all travelling through time. You, yes YOU – are a bona fide time traveler. Just… not in the way that gets me all starry-eyed when watching the latest episode of Travelers or Outlander. For the most part, we are all travelling through time at a rate of 1 second per earth second.
But when we talk about time travel, what do we really mean?
Turns out, it’s a pretty tricky concept to define. For the sake of brevity, I will define time travel here as “moving faster, slower, or backwards through time, or ‘jumping’ from one point in time to another.” To understand how this might work, we must first ask:
WHAT IS TIME?
IN MATHEMATICS: Time may be defined as “the system of those sequential relations that any event has to any other, as past, present, or future; indefinite and continuous duration regarded as that in which events succeed one another.”
IN PHYSICS: According to Einstein’s theory of special relativity, time is an illusion; time (and space) are relative. It was not Einstein, but Minkowski, however, who was the first to propose that time and space cannot exist without the other, but are “components of a single four-dimensional spacetime fabric.”
Tumblr media
TIME TRAVEL: THEORIES & METHODOLOGIES
1.    Time Dilation
Building off the idea of time as the fourth dimension, Einstein would eventually identify gravity as a property of spacetime. Gravity creates a curvature in the fabric of spacetime that is responsible for an effect known as time dilation, the first (and simplest) attainable method to travel through time.
In fact, astronauts do it all the time!
Time on Earth moves ever so slightly faster than time in space. For each day spent in space, an astronaut will be 38 microseconds younger than his or her twin on Earth. So, when they return home, they are really coming BACK TO THE FUTURE!
2.    Wormholes
Visualize two points in the fabric of spacetime. Then, imagine you could fold the fabric in half so that the two points meet. This is the idea behind time-travel via wormhole. Also known as Einstein-Rosen bridges, after the physicists who proposed their existence, wormholes are essentially shortcuts through spacetime.
While (according to General Relativity) wormholes exist theoretically, no one has actually seen one. Plus, to use a wormhole as a portal through time would require one big enough, and stable enough, for a vessel to pass through. Possible (at least in theory), but highly unlikely.
Tumblr media
3.    Alternate Realities
Some believe travel through a wormhole would take you not only to another point in time, but to another (parallel) universe. Many-Worlds Theory proposes that for every choice encountered, an alternate reality exists for each possible outcome. Good news for this theory: it solves many of the paradoxes of time travel!
4.    Going Really, Really Fast
Special Relativity tells us that time depends on an object’s relative velocity. Theoretically, if you travel fast enough, you will wind up in the future.
How fast is “fast enough”? Sorry, Marty; 88 mph just isn’t going to cut it. Think faster than the speed of light. That’s over 186,000 miles per second. Velocity of this caliber would require a MASSIVE amount of energy! Which raises a few of concerns... not the least of which being that a person attempting to travel at such a high speed would almost certainly burn up and die.
Tumblr media
5.    Cryogenics
What if – instead of speeding it up – we could make time stand still?
Does it count as time-travel when you go to sleep, or (don’t try this at home, kids!) fall into a coma? The consensus is no. Time passes for us, even if we are not consciously aware of its passing. However, when one is cryogenically frozen, time physically slows down for that person – relatively speaking. And what was that thing Einstein said about time? Oh yeah, TIME IS RELATIVE. Thus, of the approaches discussed here, cryogenic sleep may be the most reasonably attainable method to time-travel. That said, we remain many years away from turning this science-fiction into reality.
IN CONCLUSION: THE FUTURE IS NOW*
*This proposition is logically invalid.
Not logically invalid: time travel.**

So how much do you know about Mars? Let’s recap before we get into the details of the Mars One Mission. It is one of the closest planets to our own, along with Venus. Which one is closer at any given time all depends on their orbits. The minimum distance from Earth to Mars is 54.6 million kilometers and the Red Planet is about half the size of Earth. There are high amounts of iron oxide on the surface which give the planet its distinct red color and it has two moons, Phobos and Deimos. It is a terrestrial planet which has an atmosphere, however, it is too thin for humans to survive without additional support. Now, does that sound like a place you’d like to go? If you watched Matt Damon in The Martian you’ll probably say no. Traveling to Mars may seem like science fiction right now, but many folks believe that it will become a reality in the very near future. The question is no longer if we will be able to get people to Mars, it’s simply a matter of when it will happen. One of the more ambitious projects is Mars One, which plans to land the first Martian pioneers on the Red Planet in 2032. Here’s what you need to know about this mission.
#1 No Scientific Breakthroughs Are Needed I don’t know about you, but this one surprised the heck out of me. According to the official Mars One website, we don’t need to make any scientific breakthroughs to get people to Mars. This doesn’t mean that everything is ready to go as it is but we don’t need to solve any major scientific problems or create new inventions to make this dream a reality. What does need to happen is design, to make all the components needed to make the journey and start a colony. Currently, the technology to land people on Mars exists, however getting them off again is still a problem because a heavy launch vehicle capable of this doesn’t exist (yet). That’s why they chose to make this a one-way trip for everyone involved.
#2 The First Astronauts Have Already Been Selected According to the latest timeline on their website, the Mars One Mission plans to land the first astronauts on the Red Planet in 2032. And all the candidates have already been chosen from thousands of applicants all over the globe. The selection process started in 2013 with online applications and personal interviews. Slowly the candidates went through selection rounds until only 24 people remained. These candidates were divided into six teams of four in 2016. Just think about this for a second, if you were 30 years old in 2013 when you applied and you made it to the finals, you will be 49 years old by the time you land on Mars. But if you think you have what it takes to become a Mars pioneer don’t let this discourage you. Although they are not accepting applications right now they will do so again in the future.
#3 The Astronauts Began Their Training This Year So 2017 was a big year for Mars One because this is when the chosen candidates began their training – which will continue until 2031 when they leave for Mars. There are six groups consisting of four people each (two men and two women) and every group will spend several months of each year training for their life-changing journey. The most important part of their training will be learning how to spend prolonged periods with each other in a remote location. Just think about how well they will know each other by the time they leave! Other components of their training include how to conduct repairs on equipment, medical procedures, and how to grow food in the special habitat that they will live in. They will also train in remote areas with Mars-like terrain and conditions.
#4 Getting Soil From Mars Is One Of The Most Critical Aspects Of The Mission In 2022 Mars One will launch the Mars-bound Demonstration Mission. This is one of the most important steps in getting humans to Mars and creating a colony. This will be an unmanned proof of concept mission, designed to ensure that life will indeed be able to survive on the Red Planet. The payload of the lander will include a camera to allow for a video stream from Mars to Earth (let’s hope they will have a YouTube channel for that), a solar panel experiment (to test if they will be able to provide enough renewable energy for the pioneers) and most importantly a water extraction experiment. This last experiment will need to prove that water can be extracted from the Martian soil. If not it could spell the end of the Mars One Mission because with our current technology we could not transport enough water to Mars to maintain the settlers.
#5 The First Team Will Leave For Mars In 2031 And Arrive After 8 Months If everything goes as planned 2031 is going to be one of the most exciting years in history. Once the systems set in place have been given the green light the Mars Transit System will blast off from Earth with its first four human passengers. They will first travel into Earth’s orbit and then about a month later boosters will “kick” the spaceship into its flight path to Mars. The journey will take approximately eight months, which probably doesn’t sound like a lot right? But it’s a long journey, both mentally and physically for the astronauts. Living in such close quarters will be trying for the passengers and add to that the uncertainty of what awaits them when they arrive. Also, imagine the kind of pressure they are going to be under with the entire planet watching. It’s clear why choosing the right people for a mission like this took so many years.
#6 It’s A One Way Trip… The Mars One crews are made up entirely of people who want to settle on Mars permanently. Once they are there coming back will be impossible. I don’t think we can even begin to fathom the type of bravery a mission like this one calls for. These people are not going to leave their town or their country – they are going to leave their planet, forever. Not having to plan for a return mission keeps the cost of the project down. In the future, they do hope to develop technology that will make return journeys possible, but this is still a long way off. A return trip would need to be tested using an unmanned vehicle first and even after that, the risk to astronauts would be very high.
#7 Some People Believe That Mars One Is A Hoax I don’t know about you, but being alive to see humans land on Mars will probably be the highlight of my life. I don’t see how it could get any more exciting than that. But not everyone is jumping for joy about the Mars One Mission. There has been a lot of criticism regarding their funding estimates and timelines and some people don’t believe that they project will happen at all. There are even folks who think the whole thing is just a hoax. Now it is true that the timeline for the mission has been set back a few years, but honestly, they are trying to get humans to Mars. It’s one of the greatest endeavors mankind has ever undertaken so what difference does a few years even make? Every massive project has setbacks, but that’s no reason to think it won’t happen at all.
#8 Mars One And Space X Are Not The Same Thing Space X and Mars One are not the same project but they do have similar goals in mind. Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, commonly known as Space X, is an aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company that was founded in 2002 by South African born inventor and business magnate Elon Musk. Their goal is to make space transportation cheaper which could enable mankind to colonize Mars soon. In 2016 Musk revealed their plans for the Interplanetary System program which will develop advanced spaceflight technology, which could be used to transport colonists to Mars. The main difference between the two approaches is that Space X wants to enable people to travel back and forth from the Red Planet while Mars One is keeping their costs low by going with a one-way journey.
#9 The Life Support Systems Will Already Be In Place By The Time The First Humans Arrive In 2029 the Mars One project will begin sending cargo to the Red Planet. A specially designed Rover will also be transported in the same mission, which will pick up all the cargo units, including the first life support unit. The rover will place the living unit in the chosen location and deploy the solar panel films to power the unit. This power source will also make it possible for the rover to recharge itself before it begins setting up the inflatable living units. The rover will connect the living units to the life support unit with a hose that can transport water, air, and power. Once this is done the environmental control systems can begin. By the time the first humans arrive, they will have a breathable atmosphere in the living units, about 3000 liters of water and 240 kg of oxygen available to them.
#10 The Martian Settlers Will Live In Specially Adapted Living Units Once the astronauts land on Mars they will be transported to the special living unit that the Rover would have set up. They will enter via an airlock and once inside they will have breathable air so they will be able to take off their spacesuits. These living units will be inflatable and will be built using existing technology that has already been tested in space. After the astronauts have recovered from their long journey they will get to work constructing the rest of their settlement. Construction materials will already be on Mars that will allow them to construct rooms, floors and electrical outlets. Inside they will also have wet areas such as kitchens and showers. They will then get to work setting up the solar panels and starting food production. Once all this is complete and operational, they will begin constructing another living unit for the next four astronauts.
#11 They’ll Need Special Mars Suits For Temps Of 81°F To -225°F Although Mars does have an atmosphere, it is too thin to breathe and contains too much carbon dioxide. The temperatures on Mars range between 27 °C (81 °F) and -143 °C (-225 °F) so the settlers will need special full body suits whenever they leave their habitat. These suits are still in the design phase but will need to be flexible enough to allow the astronauts to work with bulky construction materials and delicate machinery while protecting them from the harsh environment. There is gravity on Mars, but it is not as strong as the gravity on Earth. If you weighed 100kg on Earth you would only weigh 38kg on Mars. At the moment we are not aware of the long-term effects of reduced gravity on the human body.
#12 There Will Be A Vote For Us To Decide Which Team Goes Up First Of course, the question on everyone’s mind is if the project does go ahead as planned and Mars One sends the first astronauts to Mars, who are they going to be? How will they choose the first four people that will set foot on another planet? I mean the moon landing was one thing, but another planet? That’s a massive honor and their names will surely go down in history. So how will they choose? The short answer is that Mars One won’t choose. It’s expected that six groups of four people will be ready by that stage and the choice will be left to you, me, and the rest of the planet. Because Mars One believes that this is part of humankind’s history they want to leave it up to us to decide. According to them, the whole world will be able to vote for their favorite group when the time comes. Something to look forward to for sure.
#13 They Plan To Use Natural Resources On Mars Although Mars is not as suitable for human life as Earth is it does have resources that can be used to create a suitable living environment. If water can be extracted from the soil this can be used to grow crops, drinking, and support hygiene needs. The water can also be used to generate oxygen. The settlers will be able to use the Martian soil to cover their outpost which will help block out cosmic radiation. They also plan to collect nitrogen, argon, and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, although these systems have not yet been tested in space. Using solar power for the settlement is the obvious choice, otherwise, a nuclear reactor would need to be delivered to Mars at a massive cost. The plan is to use thin solar panels which are extremely light and easy to transport.
#14 Funding Continues To Be A Challenge The team at Mars One has estimated that they need $6 billion to take the first four astronauts to Mars. This includes the unmanned missions that will need to go ahead to prepare the setup for the first settlers. Because the project is being run by a not-for-profit organization they are doing everything they can to raise the money needed. This includes selling broadcast rights for the mission, securing sponsorship deals, crowdfunding (yes, you can make donations too), and licensing intellectual property rights from inventions made during the development stages. Of course, they are also relying heavily on private donations from generous philanthropists. The cost of the project may very exceed this meager budget, especially if resources become more expensive in the next few years.
#15 Mars One May Not Get To The Red Planet First Mars One is an ambitious project, but they are not an aerospace company. This means that all the work required to complete the mission will need to be contracted out to other companies. So will they be the first to reach Mars? Maybe not. There are several contenders in the Mars race. Perhaps NASA’s Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft will carry the first astronauts to the Red Planet or maybe Russia or China will beat them to it. Many folks think that Space X has the best chance of reaching Mars first because they have the resources and the drive to do so. Other contenders include the Mars Society who also have a two-phase plan called Mars Direct with the aim of colonization. But the point is that we are going to land on Mars, no question about it. It’s just a matter of time.
