This last week has been a complete trip while working on my latest tryptic mural 'DAWN' at @the_loin_sf. Thank you to everyone that has come by each day and night and given me support/encouragement/beers and assistence. I spent a whole day and night with @realsmij painting away and getting quite the workout moving up and down latters and filling in large spaces with black paint. He really hooked it up the other day with a sweet bottle of Evan Williams whisky, a full fried chicken dinner and busting his ass. My first Covid 19 related commission. @realsmij commissioned me to create this drawing after learning I had been forced into unemployment and all my upcoming mural contracts were terminated as a result of Covid 19. @realsmij, formerly known as 'James Bronze' gained fame in San Francisco after years of unique street performing in Union Square. I had seen him perform for several years before we became friends. He has since then been a supporter and collector of my work. Lately we've been spending time getting into elaborate conversations about spiritual energy, art, film making while drinking high end whisky (at a safe distance) and watching mind blowing movies (like ZORDOZ) I had never been introduced to before until recently. Living life outside of the general rush of work and never ending obligations has definitely led me to hold longer and far more in depth conversations with people that I simply did not have the time nor patience to do before. It's interesting to witness the complexities of ourselves and other people's lives as society comes to a screeching halt. 'NOD' Micron 08 Pen on Bristol Paper 19x24in. NFS This was recently commissioned by @realsmij to celebrate his girfriend's birthday on 9/15 during her stay in SF, all the way from London. N.O.D. stands for Never Off Duty, an acronym her collegues gave her while working as a sociologist. Since retiring from that profession, she now works as a Professor Of Innovation for the University of East London. She's works with PhD candidates and tech students researching how different technolgies effect people's lives. Her academic background includes: Head of Innovation Studies and Asst. Vice Chancellor for the University of East London, Head of Education at the University of Manchester, and she ran a year long international festival called 'Life On Learning' in London. She had met @realsmij at Burning Man in 2007, they've been dating since 2008. They became more intimate after losing a mutual friend to murder. They both collaborate in the virtual world on digital projects, and interact on 2nd Life; a program in which people interact with one another through the use of digital avatars. One type of interaction they enjoy together on this platform is playing darts. She's also been a recent participant at Sketch Tuesdays at @111minnagallery. Yes, I've been late to posting, but what's the rush! Thank You @realsmij for cooking up thr sweet Keilbasa! Thank You @nickolaybereza and Ann Weiler for serving an endless pour of 'White Ukrainians' throughout the night! I'm a huge proponant of closing receptions, it's another great reason to party, see the work again, add new dynamics to the celebration, getting new eyes on the work for those that may have missed the opening and the potential of new sales 😉. Thus far 'Rise, Sunflowers' has garnered several thousand dollars in sales, the bulk of which will be donated to the Bay Area fundraising organization @heartsforukraine.us which is providing immense humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine. **Addionally... 🌻TODAY 5-8PM!!!!!!!!🌻 'RISE, SUNFLOWERS' CLOSING PARTY!!!! @lunarienne 8/13/22 - 5-8pm Come check out the closing party for Rise, Sunflowers this SATURDAY!!!!! ***and get yourself some sweet Keilbasa and other Ukrainian treats cooked and stirred up by @realsmij and @nickolaybereza !!!!!! This is a group art exhibition and fundraiser for @heartsforukraine.us , curated by San Francisco artists D Young V and Mykola Bereza. The title of the show is a reference to both human empowerment and Ukraine’s national flower (Sonyashnyk). The sunflower was introduced in the country in the mid-18th century and has since become a key component of the Ukrainian economy — its sunflower oil comprises nearly 80% of the global stock. In 1996 the sunflower also became a symbol of global celebration as it was used to mark the nuclear disarmament of Ukraine, which at the time possessed the world’s third largest nuclear arsenal. The sunflower has taken on new meaning as a symbol of solidarity, resistance, unity and hope since the Russian invasion. The show features 27 local artists exhibiting affordable works of various media, the proceeds from which will be donated to Hearts for Ukraine, a Bay Area-based organization that delivers critical supplies to hospitals, shelters, schools, orphanages, nursing homes, refugee support centers and the territorial defense forces of Ukraine. This is a group art exhibition and fundraiser for @heartsforukraine.us , curated by San Francisco artists D Young V and Mykola Bereza. The title of the show is a reference to both human empowerment and Ukraine’s national flower (Sonyashnyk). The sunflower was introduced in the country in the mid-18th century and has since become a key component of the Ukrainian economy — its sunflower oil comprises nearly 80% of the global stock. In 1996 the sunflower also became a symbol of global celebration as it was used to mark the nuclear disarmament of Ukraine, which at the time possessed the world’s third largest nuclear arsenal. The sunflower has taken on new meaning as a symbol of solidarity, resistance, unity and hope since the Russian invasion. The show features 27 local artists exhibiting affordable works of various media, the proceeds from which will be donated to Hearts for Ukraine, a Bay Area-based organization that delivers critical supplies to hospitals, shelters, schools, orphanages, nursing homes, refugee support centers and the territorial defense forces of Ukraine.
