I said I can’t write but if felt nice getting that other idea out of my head. So I wrote this and will post. Technically I started trying to write this like a month ago… Please ignore the constant switching between past and present tense. It’s something I never seem to notice until someone else points out where it is.
Prompt: Professionals hate him but he was right! [Adam] Heaven and Hell come to the realization that The First Man played a larger part in the three realms’ political/social ecosystem than they thought. His absence leaves a vacuum that Lute is unable to fill but she may not need to because Hell is solving the problem themselves… The Morningstar Family can’t run from this.
No ABetaO we expire like Adam~
Imagine that Adam dies, the hotel has never looked better, the residents have healed up and Charlie gets another TV appearance. Lucifer is even more depressed than before but hides it. Adam is gone She’s going to reveal Sir Pentious’ redemption with evidence that is NOT childishly scribbled on key cards. Instead of the interview taking place in the 666News studio it’s held outside the hotel. She will take questions, live, right after the interview. Katie Killjoy wants to give the public a chance to cause chaos for ratings, so she puts Charlie in a vulnerable position.
Things go great… for the first 20 minutes. The interview isn’t even half way done when someone from the crowd interjects after Charlie says ‘The Sinners have a better life now that the Exterminations are permanently canceled.’
That person’s voice is calm but still pissed as Hell. They fire back that no, Sinners don’t have an easier life now that the Exterminations are over. It’s worse! Charlie and the crowd perk up.
The voice moves to the front. They’re short with plain street clothes, hood up. It’s obvious they’re poor and at the bottom of Hell’s pecking order. A couple of Imps are with them equally disheveled and tired looking. The man goes on to point out some rather hard truths.
Thanks to the last Extermination, angelic steel has become a hot commodity. While uncommon right now, there’s a pipeline to obtain an angelic weapon. All you need is enough money. Carmilla Carmine doesn’t care about how her product is used after purchase.
‘Permanent Murder’ is a new trend on HellTube netting ridiculous profits. The main targets are vulnerable Sinners, usually the scared and alone new arrivals, Imps and Hellhounds. All killed by beautifully glowing angelic weapons.
Overlords are more formidable with these weapons so the chance of contractees escaping, like Angeldust, has become damn near impossible even if they destroyed their contract. Some desperate souls were happy with their messed up immortality. It gave them some hope, ‘at least I have a chance to turn things around eventually,’ but that pathetic security is gone.
The Exterminations kept said Overlords in check to a degree. They were more inclined to take care of their underlings because that guaranteed their safety. Now? Just get an angelic gun for all your troubles. Valentino is having a fucking field day.
The ‘permadeath’ toll for one year will be ten times the amount of one Extermination Day considering how much Hell’s citizens like to kill Sinners…
Not to mention, whole industries in Hell, from top to bottom, are starting to crash. Their purpose or sales revolved around the Exterminations. Some workers cannot afford to lose their job and have to sell their soul against their will.
Etcetcetc
As the man speaks Charlie is surprised to see heads nodding in agreement! Someone comments that they hadn’t seen their Sinner friend in a few days and tries not to panic while another face falls in the crowd and wrings their hands together. An Imp with curved horns standing beside a young Hellhound sweats profusely and starts to leave. Tension moves through the public. Not just the ones in front of the stage but also those watching TV.
Despite her best efforts Charlie cannot lift the crowd’s mood. She realizes prematurely revealing Sir Pentious’ redemption is the only way to salvage this growing disaster. Unfortunately the man’s timing is perfect because the second she opens her mouth he turns his anger on the Morningstars.
He calls out how much her family misrepresents themselves as rulers. They don’t do anything for Hell anymore. They spend most of their time fucking around while the Sinners suffer. The other Sins manage their rings and hellborn, not Lucifer or Lilith. All three of the Morningstars can’t truly understand human suffering yet they profess to know how to best handle it. With no idea what it means to be human yet they pass judgement on them.
The crowd becomes agitated and the Imps beside the man move closer to him. They aren’t trying to draw safety from the Sinner but are taking defensive positions. Charlie realizes this isn’t someone speaking up in the heat of the moment. This is a planned speech. He’s highjacking her broadcast!
She sees the Sinner clench his fists and feels herself start to sweat. Why was he saying any of that? Yes, life will be a bit hard at first but now everyone can come together and rebuild! There are so many possibilities available to The Pride Ring. It would improve lives. Change was always good they just had to be careful. Yet the stranger goes on.
He claims that Lucifer is a washed up angel that can’t comprehend mortality because of his maladaptive dreaming and pride, Lilith is apathetic to Sinners and wishes to aggravate Heaven no matter how much Hell will suffer and Charlie is so sheltered that she thinks PTSD can be solved by clapping and saying positive affirmations.
Little is known about the royal family but the stranger’s comments sway the crowd. The hotel’s original commercials got the time of day because of Charlie’s status, not because the facility had managed to accomplish anything. Lucifer barely appears at all even when large fights break out leveling half of Pentagram City. And Lilith? Missing for 7 years after riling up all of Hell multiple times, causing Heaven to start the Exterminations.
The stranger calls the hotel a disgusting joke. Calls out how Charlie is trying to ‘pass the buck’ over to Heaven. The Pride Ring’s actual rulers are Overlords and they make sure Sinners suffer and continue to act depraved whether they like it or not. Her family has the power to take control and lessen the city’s suffering but they don’t. Instead they play with their little pet project .
Why are they focusing on shipping problems elsewhere? There’s a better way to solve the pain and suffering at the source than waiting! Fix Pentagram City! Show Heaven that the current number of Sinners isn’t a threat!
‘For all the crying and sniveling you do Princess Charlotte, you sure don’t actually help where it counts! I’m sure you care about Sinners but only on the same level as someone cares about cute public park ducks.’
Vaggie, who had been standing to the side of the stage leaps forward, places herself in between the stranger and her girlfriend. Everyone’s raised emotions have put her on edge. She ignores the harsh gasps when her angelic spear slides free and into her hands. ‘Back up! Now!’
Charlie’s heart sank at the escalation. She understood her girlfriend was still tense from the extermination but all their hard work was starting to fray around the edges! She just hoped her dad didn’t-
The King of Hell himself appears through a portal shortly after gathering himself together. The opening looked angrier in color, matching his mood. Sickly green lines run throughout the glow, radiating blistering heat. Parts of the stage began to melt and the forgotten camera crew swivel to their ruler. Lucifer’s face is set in stone but his bright flickering eyes give him away.
‘Who the fuck are you?’ He snarls, apple topped cane slamming onto the stage causing some of it to splatter. ‘How dare you speak to my daughter that way.’ Lucifer’s face morphs into a more demonic grimace. Katie Killjoy scrambles from her chair and off the stage at the same time as Charlie vaulting up to place a hand on Lucifer’s shoulder whispering ‘dad no!’ She doesn’t want the hotel’s improved reputation to evaporate. A confrontation with someone on live TV would scare people away!
Lucifer growls in the back of his throat, looking at where he assumes the bastard’s eyes are under his hood. Smoke and embers sizzle out from the corner of his mouth and inbetween teeth. He hated acting this way but he had an image to uphold. ‘Answer your King you wretch. Don’t confuse my inaction with benevolence. You’re testing my patience!’
After a beat or two of staring each other down the stranger has the gall to ‘tsk’ off to the side as if spitting. ‘As you with your majesty. It’s all fine by me.’ A small, scared hand reaches up and whips off the dirty hood exposing his face to all of Hell.
People instantly whip out their phones. His face is shockingly similar to Lucifer’s, in fact a basic carbon copy sans a few attributes.
Cameras catch alabaster skin and soft, blond, curly hair, short, wiry build, vivid green eyes, pale coral cheek markings, pointed ears and four demon wings the same color as his skin.
Leaf green eyes stair directly into Charlie’s while electing to ignore both fallen angels. He stands ramrod straight. Cutting a regal silhouette despite the filth on his body and clothes.
‘My name is Cain Adamson, The Wandering Star.’ He bows in a fashion Charlie hadn’t seen in all her galas. ‘Lucifer Morningstar’s first born and bastard son. It’s nice to finally meet you sister mine… I’ll be taking your family’s crown for my father.’
[So in this AU Cain rescued Adam’s body and resuscitated it. They had a familial bond even when Cain got banished for murdering Able and found out his bio dad was Lucifer. Eve didn’t pay much attention to her first born out of guilt so Adam stepped up. No one shamed her. Adam never felt like Cain was separate from his other kids even though he looked nothing like him. Now Cain wants to provide for his father who’s trapped in hell and in really bad condition by booting the Morningstars out of power in the Pride Ring.] Dunno about pairing but Adamsapple or Guitarhero would be a safe bet. Either way Lucifer will suffer lol
[wtf do I call this? Family Feud AU? Chessboard AU? Secret Brother AU? Idk h e l p ]

Delighted myself thinking about the witch kids again, specifically their various attempts to build a replacement portal during the Summer. I'm picturing lots of brainstorm sessions that stretch late into the night and when they get tired enough, they devolve into arguing over who gets the last piece of pizza or playing truth or dare or whatever.
Hunter is feeling really proud of himself for having helped Belos rebuild a portal before. He has experience! He can make himself super useful! And then Amity 'Woman in STEM' Blight is also aiming for the same thing. She's an inventor's daughter. Her Dad's main area of expertise is using magic to power technology. She has plenty of opinions on the mechanical side of things.
Hunter and Amity either click extremely well and are plotting away at a prototype immediately or they disagree on every trivial detail and cannot go five minutes without arguing about it. There's no real resentment here. They're both just used to doing everything themselves and struggle to work as a team.
I don't think the project would get off the ground without Luz. She keeps everybody from wasting time with dud ideas because she's already spent tons of time in the Boiling Isles attempting to build a portal home. She knows exactly what WONT work cuz she's already tried it. She's also got a knack for thinking outside of the box and knows that even though glyphs are rendered useless in this realm, they can still be utilized. If she draws just the right glyph combo and finds a bit of magic for the glyphs to soak up, she's pretty sure they can light this portal's engine up.
Vee reminds them that she's still got a supply of Hexes Holdem cards, which have been working pretty well for keeping her human form. Luz, who had forgotten those things existed, nearly hits the roof in excitement.
Vee doesn't contribute much to the whole construction process, but while she does supervise. She did a health and safety course while at Summer Camp and is diligently making sure nobody is getting their asses blown up.
Portal Building is not Willow's strong suit. She does not have Luz and Hunter's experience, Amity's engineering knowledge or Gus' enthusiasm for tinkering with human technology. So she does what she does best and offers support. She hypes her smart friends up. And when they start doubting that they're actually making any progress, Willow swoops in to encourage them that if ANYBODY can build a portal, her best friends can!! Once the team realizes that they're gonna need something super strong to hold the portal upright, Willow beams. Her vines!! Her vines are tough as hell!! She can do that!!
Gus falls behind a little at first. He might be a prodigy but his skills are quite dependent on the existence of actual magic, so he struggles a bit to find his purpose here. He's very eager to work with human technology but Luz knows more about them than he does. He's smart enough to offer ideas but Hunter and Amity always come up with them before he does because they're both annoyingly STEM brained and have gotten a bit competitive about it. Gus is given the task of gathering equipment for the portal with Vee and he tries not to pout about it. After they managed to track down a half busted TV at a lawn sale, Vee takes him to a petstore to cheer him up. Gus gloomily stares at the hamsters running in their little wheels. He idly thinks about an article he read in one of his human magazines. About how hamsters in wheels can create energy. Unfortunately, hamsters aren't magic.
Cut to 2 days later when the team realizes that the Hexes Holdem cards just aren't gonna cut it. They don't possess nearly enough magic to power up a portal. It's not gonna work. All the time they've spent on this, and it's not even gonna work. They need something else. Anything else.
Luz looks like she's gonna burst into tears. Amity is pacing back and forth. Hunter is like this close 🤏 to slamming his head against the wall in an effort to rattle a genius idea out of his brain. Willow is making a valiant effort to keep everybody from having a full blown meltdown.
Gus is staring intently at Flapjack who is pecking away at the floorboards again. Then he's like "Hey....hear me out....what if-?"

Help the Dangerous Ladies Keep Creating!
Hello, it’s been a while! Unfortunately, we’re coming back under less than ideal circumstances.  Our Etsy shop, our main source of income, has been recently suspended due to copyright claims. At the behest of our supporters, we have started a Gofundme to help keep the lights on.
Help Us Out at our GoFundMe
If you don’t know us, we're a small woman owned and operated, LGBT-friendly costuming company that has been cosplaying together for a decade and providing resin kits, patterns, textiles and other accessories to the community since 2013. We’re based in Toronto, Canada.
To date, we have shipped more than 26,000 kits, prints, files and other resources for cosplayers. This business is our livelihood and came to fruition through hard work and effort. Everything we make is from scratch, with our own hands and our own machines, in small quantities, to order. Our digital files are all made in-house, individually, using no official assets. We are not a factory mass-producing wholesale goods, nor do we dropship other people's products. We are a committed little business that has loved being on Etsy, and truly believe we are the very artists that Etsy should want to platform –– our goods are handmade, unique, and often the only resource of their kind! We work hard for our high ratings, but agents operating on behalf of certain companies occasionally send take-downs, and then do not reply to us when we try to work it out with them. It's complicated, but the reality is that we're creating projects in the realm of transformative work and are by no means taking away profit from the creators of these properties, as our cosplay kits are one-of-a-kind creations with no official analogue. We also feel very strongly that cosplay is an incredible form of free advertising for companies producing video games, anime, tv shows and movies. Cosplayers put in a tremendous amount of labour, time and money to make their costumes, which they wear and display all over conventions, the internet and social media. We know from experience that companies enjoy and engage with the fruits of this labour; the very companies that inspire us to create kits sometimes hire us (and other cosplayers) themselves to represent their media after having seen our store! We've had the distinct pleasure of working for media companies large and small, and they know what we make and allow us to keep the rights to our files and associated assets. These companies also regularly post on social media with cosplayers using our work.  However, Etsy does not know who or what companies choose to allow the sale of fan art and goods. To them, a report is a report, even if it is erroneous or mistaken. This has been a crushing blow to us as a small business. We're a very month-to-month, low-profit business after we pay the bills and our team. Currently, Dangerous Ladies employs eight staff members and operates from a rented studio space. Both our staff and our space are an integral part of our business and allow us to be able to operate at our current capacity, providing cosplay resources to creators all around the world.  Without support, we will have to scale back dramatically, if not close entirely. While we work to appeal with Etsy, we realize that there is a chance we may not see our platform flourish there again, so we are working diligently to bring you our new website, and welcome you to visit our Storenvy in the meantime. We started this Gofundme  Although orders are very important to us right now, we understand that some of you may not have the need to order a kit, print, or fabric at the moment, but still wish to support us through this trying time. For this, we want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Sincerely, the Dangerous Ladies Jenn, Christine, Shazz, Aubree, Nicole, Gabi, Syd, and Jules <3 Can I see more of what you do? Of course! While our Etsy is down, you can visit us on Storenvy or subscribe to our newsletter. You can also find us on Twitter and Instagram!

'I'm in Love with the Villainess' Spin-off 'She's So Cheeky for a Commoner' Released Digitally in English
The first volume of Inori's spin-off light novel series I'm in Love with the Villainess: She's so Cheeky for a Commoner (Heimin no Kuse ni Namaiki an!) was released digitally in English by Seven Seas Entertainment. A physical edition will be released on February 28th.
Tumblr media
The series is a spin-off of Inori's Yuri isekai series I'm in Love with the Villainess and follows the events of the original story from the perspective of deuteragonist Claire.
The publisher describes the light novel:
Claire François has it all: beauty, brains, and the blood of nobility. As the daughter of a high-ranking noble, she takes her status and the according responsibilities with utmost seriousness--even as the king threatens to undermine his realm's stability with his visions of "meritocracy." Claire is nevertheless prepared to take this societal change in stride, until one of the new commoner students at her elite academy, Rae Taylor, turns her life upside down. Everything about Rae confounds Claire, from her behavior to her intellect to her bizarre fixation on Claire herself. Little does she realize just how much Rae will change her world, and how much she'll change Rae in turn.
Although the series follows the events of the original series, it includes new characters and events.
She's So Cheeky for a Commoner was initially released as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou. GL bunko published the second light novel digitally in Japanese in December.
Tumblr media
I’m in Love with the Villainess has been received positively by both critics and audiences, selling over 200,000 copies worldwide. It won 5th place in AnimeJapan’s 2021 annual Manga We Want to See Animated Ranking, notably beating out popular series like Spy x Family and Komi Can’t Communicate. YuriMother gave the second light novel a 10/10 score, calling it “A defining and relentlessly queer work in the next era of Yuri.”
A TV anime adaptation of I'm in Love with the Villainess by Platinum Vision is set to premiere in 2023.
Tumblr media
Check out I'm in Love with the Villainess: She's so Cheeky for a Commoner Volume 1 digitally today, and preorder the paperback edition ahead of its February 28 release: https://amzn.to/3XCY8ye

I’ve got a lot of “Nightmare Realm Blunt Rotation” written but I write extremely non linearly, like that’s just my natural work process? So nothing ready to post because it’s all filling and no bun, if that makes sense. This word sandwich hasn’t got the bread encasing it yet. I struggle with “beginning” and “end” but I’m a pro at random dialogue middle.
Maybe I’ll just figure out an upload structure somehow where that could work 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
What do you want me to attempt to finish first? Some of the chapters are supposed to take place later than others chronologically but like, you know, the whole I don’t work in order thing is a problem so… tell me what you wanna read!…plz?
⚠️Option 1- Chapter where Bill is forced to help Mabel with her crystal business livestreams and he becomes infamous for eating rocks and asbestos on Instagram
⚠️Option 2- Chapter where Pyronica and Amorphous Shape visit Gravity Falls to check on Bill, they end up as freeloaders in the Mystery Shack and they drive Stanley fucking crazy
⚠️Option 3- Chapter where Dipper finds out Bill is telling everyone he’s the Pines twins’ uncle and he’s so pissed about it
⚠️Option 4- Chapter where a serious Pines family fight breaks out after a discussion about a gorilla-orangutan hybrid gets out of control
⚠️Option 5- Mabel, Dipper and Pacifica attempt to include Bill in the town’s annual Founders Day festival as a form of “enrichment” and the results are interesting
⚠️Option 6- Mabel and Dipper’s grandpa Shermie comes to visit and I’ll figure out some kind of stupid drama between the three brothers involving sibling rivalry and Sherman Pines’ train otaku travel youtube channel
⚠️Option 7- Mabel and family discover that Bill has a keen sense of smell. Stanley, Bill, and Mabel’s Pet Kunekune pig Walter (who is a former Theraprism patient who was reincarnated) attempt a grift involving boutique perfumes that are not FDA approved and cause rashes as a way to profit off Bill’s olfactory talent
⚠️Option 8- Bill accepts a 7 day long affirmations challenge after Ford stupidly bets Bill that he can’t hack it in exchange for five minutes of Ford’s unfettered attention
⚠️Option 9- Pines family rents out Pacifica’s parents cursed lake house and stupid shit ensues, Bill being weird at the beach and annoying Ford
⚠️Option 10- Ford makes a messy deal with Bill for him to use his neuron re-wiring powers to restore Fiddleford’s busted ass brain at the cost of allowing Bill to move into a storage closet in the Mystery Shack instead of sharing a room at Mabel’s house with the pig. Can Bill and Fids manage to get along well enough to keep the peace and can Bill learn to stop being so needlessly jealous? Idk let the drama bitch-fest begin (not rly angst more like trashy reality tv, I don’t do serious for extended periods of time ok)
⚠️Option 11- Bill starts getting paid in valid US currency instead of bricks of cheese and decides he will become Ford’s sugar daddy in a cringe attempt to woo him (guy works part time doing crystal sale livestreams for Mable’s business he is not rich)

Strange Tales #135
Cover Date: August 1965 On-Sale Date: May 4, 1965
Tumblr media
This month Strange Tales introduces its answer to James Bond. Sgt. Fury is recast as super-spy Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Doc is completely absent from the cover bar a tiny portrait in the corner box. I really miss those boxes. In this issue we get a nice amount of intrigue and back stabbing as Doc fully embraces his mission to find "Eternity".
Doc has gone to London to search for "Eternity". He's keeping vigilant this time as he smokes out a Mordo spy in the airport just after he's landed. After wiping the minion's memory, he travels to a castle on a foggy moor. The castle belongs to Sir Baskerville. So far there are no signs of any hounds. Doctor Strange's thought bubble identifies Sir Baskerville as a "former" disciple of Mordo until he met with an accident. The fact that he's Sir and not Lord means he's a pretty minor noble. I wonder if he has his Knight Grand Cross. It's a nice castle whatever the case.
A grey haired gentleman in a rather fine long smoking jack lets Doc in. We see the 'accident' left him with an injured hand that he keeps encased in something. Or did he lose it and this is capping the stump? We may never know, but he's still a proper English gentleman who offers Doc tea. Doc's like "Sorry dude. Got no time for that. Did you happen to hear of 'Eternity'?" "By golly, I believe I have! Let me go get that scroll for you."
Tumblr media
Sir Baskerville with no hounds leaves Doc in front of the fireplace to contemplate his situation. Wisely, Doc thinks the situation out rather than his usual shouting out to all who can hear. Just a few stories ago, as Doc was vanishing to Shazana's and her nameless sister's realm, Doc recognized Dormie's voice. Here he thinks "if only I knew from whence Mordo's increased power has come!" which sounds to me like he hasn't a clue. The colors in this panel are delightfully moody.
Tumblr media
We change scenes to the Dark Dimension where Dormie is steaming even more than usual. He's still worked up by someone mucking with his Mindless Ones barrier. Fortunately, his security is somewhat better than most magic users in this series. Using a round edition of the magic smoky flat panel TV, he replays the events around the barrier incident. I suppose being and absolute, supremely powerful dictator makes you a bit paranoid and you watch everything. He watches Clea steal the energy draining device and place it by the barrier. It looks like she's in Nightmare's realm instead of the Dark Dimension, but whatever. Of course, if he had truly effective security, Clea wouldn't have been able to steal the device in the first place. Dormie is pissed and does the equivalent of putting his fist through the TV and begins to carefully plot his vengeance. In a better show of continuity Clea wears the same outfit in the flashback as when she first seen stealing the device last issue.
Tumblr media
Going back to Castle Baskerville, we find out Sir Baskerville is still in the thrall of Mordo. Whoa! Would have never suspected that! Sir Baskerville contacts Mordo mentally who dispatches Kaecilius to take care of things. Unlike previous teleportation, Mordo has to speak a spell to achieve it this time. Arriving, Kaecilius and Mordo's giant floating head yell at Sir Baskerville. He grabs a scroll and goes back to Doc. Sneaking up behind, Kaecilius/Mordo attacks. But, Doc is the tricky one this time! It was only an illusion of Doc which quickly fades. A suit of armor begins to move and Kaecilius/Mordo, attack it again and again, but it doesn't fall. Doc's trick #2! Running through a doorway, a hidden Doc clobbers Kaecilius, cutting off his contact with Mordo. There's something very satisfying about that panel.
Tumblr media
Doc freezes Sir Baskerville and probes Kaecilius' mind, without consent, of course. Here he confirms that Mordo's secret partner in crime is Dormie. Continuity crisis averted!
Tumblr media
While this is going on Mordo is dispatching his ninja minions. Before they can reach the castle, Doc finds out that Mordo promised to restore Sir's hand. Having some knowledge of this particular situation, Doc informs him it can't be done. Then, he actually says "You no longer interest me!" In a race against time Doc retrieves his cloak. This is what caused the armor to move and why the devastating force had no effect. He goes to the roof of the castle as the minions arrive. "You, ninja dudes, my mind to your mind my thoughts to your thoughts. Doc has gone to the netherworld. You should go there to." And the flee.
Mordo realizes something is wrong and goes to the castle himself as Doc flees. Realizing he's been outwitted, Mordo shakes his fist in the air in a classic "I'll get you next time!" moment.
I like this. Doc has a definitive victory against Mordo who clearly outclasses him in power. He achieved this through his wits. Doc is more than a magical blowhard. He's a cunning strategist. Outmanned and outgunned he can still come out on top. It's bittersweet. His mission to find "Eternity" is still a failure. The story moves the arc along at a sufficient, if not brisk pace. Pieces are set in place or have begun to move. Sir Baskerville will return in a number of years in a future story arc that is truly masterful. It will even include some familiar participants. From here to "Eternity," baby!

When Dr Harold Young [...] takes visitors on a journey around Belize City, the first stop is an unremarkable building, whose basement entrance is partly shrouded by creeping pink bougainvillea. Its padlocked gates and broken windows back on to a parking lot in the city’s historic centre. Most passersby ignore the innocuous plaque outside. Belize, a country of 400,000 citizens, is [...] a part of the English-speaking Caribbean. A former British settlement and then colony, it is one of the region’s eight remaining Commonwealth realms – independent countries where the monarch remains the head of state.
Belize is the only Commonwealth realm King Charles has never visited.
The building is blocked from public entry but is known locally as the former headquarters of a TV station [...] once owned by the Conservative peer Lord Michael Ashcroft, who has sprawling business investments around Belize. But for those who are aware, the building serves as a horrifying reminder of the brutality of British rule here. “It’s the last remnants of a holding dungeon for slaves,” Young says. “Before they were put out for sale.”
Unlike the island states in the Caribbean, where plantation slavery underpinned the colonial economy, enslaved labour in Belize revolved around the logging of mahogany at camps in the country’s interior. [...] [T]he remnants of violent enslavement are now mostly absent from public view. The building’s story has been passed down for generations, and is noted in certain tourist literature. But the historic plaque outside, while acknowledging its use in the mahogany trade, presents its connections to slavery merely as “local folklore”. “When you live in a colonial environment, the colonialists don’t want you to prove what they were doing was a horrendous trade, right?” says Young, who is Belizean Creole, meaning of mixed African heritage. [...]
---
History is still not fully told. Crimes remain unacknowledged. [...]
But as the United Kingdom prepares to crown its new king, the citizens of Belize are laying the groundwork for a similarly historic event: they could be the first nation to remove Charles as head of state. [...] The process, the prime minister [...] acknowledged in an interview [...] means it is “quite likely” that Belize will be the next country to leave the Commonwealth realm, following Barbados’s seismic decision to become a republic in 2021. [...] Belize is not alone [...].
[D]iscussions over the future of the British monarchy have accelerated throughout the region.
Now, officials in seven of the remaining realm countries in the Caribbean have indicated they will seek to follow the same path [...]. In Jamaica, [...] the government has committed to a vote before the next general election in 2025. In Antigua and Barbuda, the prime minister [...] said shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth that he would hold a referendum within three years. [...]
Such debate is far from new to the English-speaking Caribbean and did not begin with Barbados’s decision in 2021, nor the death of Queen Elizabeth last year. Carried by a wave of Black nationalism and socialism, three former British colonies, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and the newly independent Dominica, removed the monarch as head of state throughout the 1970s. Alternatives to the crown had been debated in popular circles long before even then. [...]
---
Still, symbolism and imagery of the current moment [...] matter, particularly as relations between the English-speaking Caribbean and the UK fall to new lows in the aftermath of the Windrush scandal and both the government and the monarchy’s recent refusals to go beyond passive expressions of regret and offer a formal apology for the atrocities of slavery.
In March last year, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to the Caribbean marking the Queen’s jubilee was punctuated by a series of protests that cast a long shadow over the exercise in soft power. In Jamaica, photographs of the pair shaking hands with children through a chainlink fence and later parading in white clothing in an open-top Land Rover were decried as a throwback to colonialism.
In Belize, the couple were forced to abandon plans to visit a Mayan village in the country’s south, following protest. [...] “There’s only so much the fig leaf of public relations and exercises in ‘soft power’ can cover,” [...]. “These images and videos were widely shared on social media [...].” Outside St John’s Cathedral in Belize City, the remains of a semicircular brick wall mark the boundary from where, it is said, enslaved people were permitted to listen to services inside. The building itself was built by enslaved labour, but colonial authorities banned enslaved people from entering.

Work the next day was a struggle. I felt drained, physically and emotionally. Waking up to an empty room always left a bittersweet taste in my mouth but after the night before I had felt even worse. The coldness of Morpheus’ voice haunted me throughout the day, mixing and churning with echoes of voices from my past. It was like being trapped in my own waking nightmare, something I hadn’t dealt with in a long time. The passing thought of “I should probably go back to therapy” rattled around but explaining that you were kinda seeing an anthropomorphic being in your dreams was a hard sale and definitely would have gotten me sent for a psych eval. I hated feeling like this. Sad and small and depressed, not quite knowing what to do. I had been so upset the night before, the news a shock to my system, but now I wasn’t sure what to do. He said I mattered, that I wasn’t exactly in the wrong for questioning but at the same time that didn’t mean he was going to start sharing. We were both blank books to each other and neither were eager to reveal the hidden contents. Anissa passed by my desk for a third time and I could feel her eyes on me, watching as I slowly typed in another report on the new release that had launched a few weeks ago. I knew she could see the bags under my eyes and the way my clothes were just slightly in disarray. After she circled back around for another drive-by, I stopped and stared straight at her. “What?” I dryly commented, raising an eyebrow at her. Her red brow lifted and she played off nonchalance, shrugging, “Nothing! Just seeing what you were up to?” “Mmhmm,” I narrowed my eyes at her, “Working, like you should be. Just spit it out, Nissa.” She whistled under her breath and leaned against the wall of my cubicle, “Someone sure is grouchy today, Miss Dahlia. I would say I’m sensing man troubles, but someone keeps insisting she’s not actually seeing someone.” “Because I’m not,” I grumbled. Last night made that clear…ish. Anissa clapped her hands, grin on her face, “Well good! Then you have no reason not to come out for drinks after work tonight!” I wanted to groan and say I wasn’t interested immediately. I wasn’t really interested in socializing and my stomach was already in knots since Morpheus had said he would make it up to me tonight. I was anxious, angry, hurt, not completely over what had happened and how I had so easily slipped back into my old trauma reactions. But I still wanted to see him, wanted that easy comfort we seemed to have around each other. I wanted him to like me. The small, indigent part of me reared its head up again. Why shouldn’t I? I had my own life in the Waking world, my own friends and goals and things I wanted to accomplish. It wasn’t all about him, waiting around to go to the Dreaming. At the end of the day, I didn’t get to stay there and had to come back to this life. It’s not like he had made the same effort to visit me that often outside of his own realm. It was dumb and petty but true. I could sit at home alone, moping and waiting to go to sleep, or I could go out for a bit, relax, and hang out with Anissa. She was a good friend if a bit of an airhead and a little self-focused, but I knew she cared. She’d been the first one to reach out when I got the job and been there through a lot of ups and downs. Why shouldn’t I go out with her? So even though my inner hermit wanted to scream no, I sighed and forced a smile, “Fine, I will go. But! I don’t want to stay out too long, I’m tired and want to get to sleep.” Because I had a date with the King of Dreams. She clapped excitedly, a grin spreading on her face, “Yes! Honestly, Dahl, you need a drink and I think it would be good for you to get out of that sad little apartment of yours.” I rolled my eyes and went back to my report, “Thanks, now go away.” Her laughter trailed after her as she walked away. I fought to keep the anxious need to cancel at bay, to find Anissa and say nevermind all the rest of the day. Bravery and frustration had fueled me to say yes but now as I waited for the day to end, I was regretting it. I wanted to go home and mope. But the clock continued and as the work day ended, Anissa swung by so we could walk out together and head to our usual bar down the road. Friday would mean after work happy hour and a crowd but it was a nice place and usually only inhabited by the older working crowd and not a bunch of drunk college kids. I pulled my cardigan close to me over my work dress, staving off the Autumn chill during the walk. “Alright, so spill the deets. What’s been going on with you?” Anissa said as soon as we sat down inside at a tall table in the back corner. Chatter surrounded us and the lights were warm and inviting as the jukebox played an older tune. “And don’t say nothing, you’re an awful liar!” she cut me off as I opened my mouth. I sighed, “It’s…just me getting stuck in my head. I’m just feeling a little insecure at the moment.” A waitress came by and took our drink orders and I defaulted to my usual cranberry vodka since I didn’t plan on drinking much and beer tasted awful to me. My friend narrowed her eyes at me, lips pursed, “This is about that guy you started hooking up with after Thomas, isn’t it?” I cringed at the term ‘hooking up’ but couldn’t exactly deny it. That is what me and Morpheus were doing, it just sounded odd in relation to Dream of the Endless, Lord of the Dreaming and King of the Nightmare Realms. “No-” “Dahl.” “Okay, yes-” I relented, groaning, “But it’s not a big deal. We’re not dating, it’s only something casual. I just…got confused about where we stood. It’s all taken care of though, things are fine.” She frowned, thanking the waitress as she dropped off the drinks and taking a healthy sip of her own, “You know when I said there’s no harm in having a little fun after a breakup…you usually don’t keep the fun around for long. Like then it becomes less fun and more messy. Feelings get involved, shit gets complicated, lines get blurred-” “Okay, I get it-” I cut her off, “I know. I know! It wasn’t like I intended for all this…it just happened.” Her face softened to sympathy and I knew she was thinking I was a sad lonely girl who didn’t know what I was doing. She wasn’t wrong, but I didn’t want other people to know that. She gave me a small, sympathetic smile, “Fun is good but I think you deserve someone that will make you feel comfortable, love you, accept you as you are! I know you’ve had some issues in the past-” “That’s an understatement,” I muttered. “-But! I know you deserve someone that will see it and accept it and be considerate to what you need. You’re having fun for now but maybe when the fun starts to make you sad, it’s time to call it,” Anissa finished. The ice in my glass clinked and I looked away from her to stare at my drink.
It sounded so much simpler in theory, but seeing Dream was addicting. I loved the Dreaming, I loved the way he made me feel and the attention he gave me, the way this being that had seen so much had decided that I was interesting enough to spend time with. But the thought left an acrid taste in my mouth and I felt an echo of my younger self. Sixteen and thrilled that a guy older than me thought I was beautiful, wanted to be around me. I took a large gulp of my drink, the vodka burning my throat and the sweetness of the cranberry coating my mouth. Anissa luckily changed the topic, switching to talking about work and her sister’s wedding that was coming up, throwing out the idea that I should join her for the holidays on a trip. I didn’t have any family and usually stayed home, drowning out the outside world, ignoring the commercials about family get-togethers and Christmas mornings. I let her ramble and take over, doing what she did best as I listened and nodded along. The bar grew more full, the crowd filling the floor and taking over the tables. Every now and then it felt like the space in my back was burning, like someone was staring and I was worried maybe Thomas had shown up, but when I looked around I couldn’t see anything. I chalked it up to my own paranoia, reasoning that he preferred the other bar further down the road. The time passed and I was getting ready to cut Nissa off and head back home so I could get settled and go meet Morpheus. It was getting close to the normal time I’d pass out and go there, something that had become clockwork over the past months. As I was getting ready to flag down the waitress, my friend grinned at someone in the crowd and raised her hand high, waving. I frowned and glanced over, trying to see who she was focused on and my stomach dropped slightly. I looked at Anissa and glared.
“Tell me you didn’t invite Cam?” I growled under my breath, staring her down. She only turned to me and smiled innocently, shrugging. “He must have just shown up!” she feigned nonchalance, grinning as our tall dark haired co-worker saddled up to the table. Cameron had started working in our department a few months back, but only recently had been added to our project group for one of the new releases. He was nice, sweet, lean with a mop of dark brown hair and tanned skin. Sometimes a little awkward, but we’d gotten along easily once we got to work together more. And he had a crush on me…as Anissa liked to mention all the time in her attempt to matchmake. He was a good guy, but I wasn’t really interested. Something I had told her before. Multiple times. “Hey, Cam!” Nissa cheerfully greeted him. He glanced my way with a small smile and I returned him, greeting him as well. He grabbed an empty chair and pulled it up, still in the same dark blue button up shirt he had worn at work. “Hey, Dahlia,” he nodded at me, rubbing the back of his neck. I sent a glance at Anissa, a small glare out the corner of my eyes, “Hey, funny to see you here. Did you only just leave work now?” Cameron shrugged, “Yeah, I had to stay late to finish up a few things since I’ll be out on Monday. That report Kransky wanted done was a nightmare and I knew I’d be getting a thousand emails while I was out if I didn’t finish it now.” Quarterly wrap up was soon and we’d all been stressed, but I didn’t envy him staying so late in the office, “Well I’m glad you got it knocked out the way so you can enjoy your time away from the office. As soon as Quarterly is finished, I’m half tempted to take a mental health day.” Anissa looked between us, abruptly standing up, “I’m gonna go get another drink! Cam, want anything? I’ll buy!” If I could burn her to cinders with my eyes, I would. I stared her down as Cameron looked at her, seeing her wide grin. He ordered a beer and I watched her disappear into the crowd, swallowed out of sight, and leaving me alone with him. The burning on my back intensified and I glanced again into the crowd, not seeing anything. For a moment I thought I saw the familiar shape of Dream’s coat but it was Autumn so everyone wore the same jackets. “Sorry for popping up,” Cameron started, wincing, “I didn’t mean to interrupt your hang out session.” I turned back to him and gave him a smile, “It’s totally fine. Anissa dragged me out here and we’ve only been chit chatting. No biggie.” He braced his elbows on the table, lips turning up in the corner, “Dragged you out, huh? Socializing that bad for you?” Laughing softly, my fingers traced circles in the condensation of my glass, “Not always. I think I’m just a homebody. I’ve never been big on crowds or even drinking, that’s more her scene.” “More of a books and tea kind of gal?” Cameron teased and swayed, bumping his shoulder into mine. I rolled my eyes, bumping his shoulder back, “Yes, I am that stereotype, thank you. I do work in the book industry, after all.” “There is absolutely nothing wrong with that!” he placated and grinned, “A good story can be infinitely better than being in a crowd while a bunch of drunken dudes shout at the TV and your shoes stick to the floor.” “Speaking of good stories,” I raised my brow and leaned in, almost whispering conspiratorially, “You hear about the Richard Madoc shit show? Thank god we’re not having to handle that.” The burning at my back continued and I rubbed at my spine, wondering if a bug had bit me or something that was making my skin hot. Cameron grinned, leaning forward, “I heard they found him with his fingers all cut up and writing in his own blood. Like how does someone even have a breakdown like that?” We talked about gossip and work, the different projects and complained about our bosses. At some point I glanced at my phone, seeing the time. I had meant to leave, meant to head back home. Our usual meeting time had come and gone somehow and a part of me felt guilty. But another part of me didn’t want to leave yet. It was small and petty, but it said fuck it. Like I had thought earlier, this was my life. It didn’t center around the Dream King and even if I wasn’t interested in Cameron, he was a nice guy and we got along well. He was still a good friend to have and I’m sure Morpheus had plenty to keep himself busy with until I would show up. So I stayed. I could be a little late, it was fine. He’d kept me waiting most of the night anyways. Anissa came back at some point, having taken a ridiculously long time getting drinks and brought me another as well. She had her own gossip to share and I ignored her knowing glances when Cameron would tease me, poking my arm or bumping into me. I wasn’t going to let her push me into anything and it was all good fun. “-you should have seen his face!” Cameron laughed, lifting the beer bottle to his lips, “You would think for a writer a few basic questions wouldn’t stump him.” I grinned and laughed, “That’s what I’m saying! I totally think it’s a ghost writer! If you listen to that man talk, he sounds nothing like his books.” “You guys are mean!” Anissa cackled, “Stop! I actually like his books!” Cameron and I looked at each other and busted out laughing again before he raised his brow, “Well when his ghost writer continues then you’ll have even more books to like!” We both laughed at her fake pout, her holding back a smile. Cam patted the table, pushing away, “Alright, I gotta go to the restroom real fast. Dahl, you want another drink on my way back?” I pointedly ignored the fact he had only asked me, rolling my eyes, “Of course you have to pee, that shitty IPA you drink wants to return to its natural form. And no, I’m good, thank you!” He rolled his eyes back, pointing a finger at me, “You lack refined taste! It’s a craft beer, it’s supposed to taste like pee!” I laughed and watched him walk to the back where the restrooms were before turning to Anissa and her shit eating grin. “Yall are so cute,” she cackled. “Stop,” I hissed but with a small smile, “I’m not interested. He’s a good friend, but I am capable of being friends with a guy without dating him.” She groaned and flopped forward, sprawling on the table, “But he’s so sweet and you can tell from a mile away that he likes you! Plus, a cute guy who is into books! Goldmine!” “That’s a pretty low standard, Nissa,” I deadpanned. “Ugh,” the red head threw her hands in the air, “Dahlia Morrowland, I love you. Dearly. But I want you to seriously consider something.” A lump formed in my throat, anxiety kicking off at the sudden serious tone she was taking and the way her lips turned downward, “Cameron is a nice guy who likes you. I know you’re attached to your mystery man, but I think maybe it’s time you consider an actual relationship with someone who isn’t going to lead you around because you deserve that after-” “Okay, Anissa, I understand your concern,” I cut her off, “It’s…complicated, but I’ll think about it.” She patted my arm, eyes full of understanding and sympathy, “That’s all I ask. Now, since Cam lovingly did not ask if I wanted another drink, I’m gonna go grab one. I’ll be right back!” I watched as she slipped out of her chair and made her way to the bar, the crowd having thinned out considerably now. It was close to eleven at night, now far past my usual bedtime, but the alcohol was loosening my nerves and I needed that. Needed the liquid courage to brave facing Dream again and the aftermath of our fight. Anissa’s words swirled in my mind though. Cameron was nice, but… I wasn’t ready for that. I wasn’t ready to end things yet with Morpheus and as he had said, I was his and he was mine. I didn’t want to give him up, didn’t want him to give me up. Sure, things were a bit of a mess and I really didn’t know where we stood with each other even with us claiming the other, but it was worth it still. I drank more of my watered down alcohol, the condensation dripping and sliding down my arm like a cool touch. In the blurred image at the bottom of my glass, I thought I could see two stars gleaming at me and I slammed my drink down, looking around me quickly. He wasn’t there, but out the corner of my eyes were glimpses of pale, alabaster skin and black ink hair. I looked again and there was nothing, but that feeling of burning pinpricks stayed on my back and I realized I knew what it felt like. Eyes watching me. The concentrated focus of magic and power. My heart seized and I struggled to swallow, hoping I was imagining it all or that the alcohol was causing me to be more paranoid. It’s not like I had done anything. I went out for drinks with friends. Sure, I’d picked that over being on time to a date with King of Dreams but it wasn’t like I was bailing completely. He couldn’t possibly be mad about that, right? There was a sudden commotion in the back of the bar, near the restrooms. Cameron came bursting out the door, the wood slamming against the wall and picture frames clattering to the ground. He collapsed onto the ground and started crawling backwards as he stared at the room in horror, panic causing his limbs to move jerkily. His face was drained of color and fear had blown out his pupils, sweat drenching him. The bar went silent in the wake of his frantic, desperate whimpers as he scuttled backwards and attempted to get to his feet. I stood from the table, shocked and worried, headed to him as cold dread settled into my stomach. He spun around, looking everywhere in terror as people tried to help him up and settle him. Anissa came up beside him and asked what was wrong, but he could only spout a jumbled mess of words as fear coated every inch of him, shirt rumpled. As I moved closer, the words, “. ..shadow…nightmare…monster… ” reached me as he sputtered with tears in his eyes. I stopped as he made eye contact with me, eyes widening even more, and he backed away. And I could see it in the eyes, the sheer terror of witnessing something that didn’t make sense but pure instinct driving you. Pushing the arms off him, he ran for the door and left the bar without another word, taking off at a dead sprint. Nightmare. My breath was coming in short, rasps as I stared at the door Cameron had run out of…and the black coat of the Nightmare King following shortly after. He’d been there. He wouldn’t. He had. I was staring but not seeing, the sound in my ear muffled as a high pitch screeching sounded over and over again. I couldn’t feel, couldn’t breathe. The room was a blur as I blinked unstaring at the door, ignoring Anissa grabbing me and asking questions. Morpheus had been there, watching me. Watching Cameron. I do not share. Anger burned white hot through me, burning away reason or logic or excuses. I had the vague recollection of Anissa trying to get my attention, but I couldn’t hear her anymore beyond the rage that flared through me. How dare he? How fucking dare he? I made an excuse that I had to head out and left the bar, not even feeling the chill on my skin from how hot I burned. The walk home was a blur, feet carrying me while my mind churned and churned. Morpheus had done something to Cameron, had scared him, terrified him, made him scared of me. What right did he have? Especially after the night before? My door was before me in a blink and even before I opened it, I knew what would be on the other side. Who would be on the other side. His power itched along my skin, expanding past the walls of the apartment, stinging and dangerous. The apartment was dark except for the moonlight coming through the windows. Morpheus sat on my couch, legs crossed, and drenched in shadow. Twin points of light stared at me from a cloaked dour face, arms crossed. His power was radiating and I knew that even if I could feel it through the door, he was barely keeping it leashed. The Nightmare King sat in the dark of my home as if it were his throne room and I was entering his domain. I slammed the door shut and flicked on the lights, blue eyes meeting mine. “Were you there?” I shouted, my bag thrown to the ground and my finger pointing into the distance. He didn’t shift, didn’t blink, only continued to stare at me with a face so pale it looked like moonlight and eyes that glittered dangerously.
My breath was coming out in heavy pants, drink turning sour in my stomach, “Did you do that?!” The Endless’ chin raised, high and mighty, lips pressed together tightly as he growled, “The mortal should count himself lucky for I could have been far more terrible.” I huffed out the air from my lungs in anger, disbelief flooding me as I placed my hands on my hips and stared down at the carpeted floor. Hearing it out loud, hearing him all but confirm his involvement, made it all sink in so much worse, “Cameron did nothing wrong, he didn’t deserve whatever you did!” “So you would defend him?” Morpheus asked with a curled lip. He stood from the couch, tall and dark in the warm light of my very human apartment. His coat bordered on solid and smoke, the edges hazy as he struggled to keep his mortal appearance. “I would defend a coworker and friend who didn’t deserve to have the Nightmare King sicced on him for simply being around me!” I yelled and stepped closer. Dream’s eyes were a swirling miasma of stars and chaos, almost black with anger as he towered over me, “Did nothing wrong? The mortal was clearly interested in you, kept touching you-” I shook my head, not believing what I was hearing, “Because he flirted with me, you punished him? Are you kidding me? Do you not see how that is such bullshit?” My blood was racing and fingers clenched into tight fists. Morpheus stepped closer, only a foot away so I had to crane my neck to meet his gaze, “You did not deter him and I warned you. I do not share. You were told that, told that I would not be able to control myself.” “Oh so you gave yourself an excuse ahead of time, wonderful,” I hissed at him sarcastically, “I’m so sorry, your majesty, I guess that makes it all better! I was being friendly. He’s just a friend. What, I can’t be around another man now without you freaking the fuck out on him but you can go see your ex-wife and I can’t say shit?” “That was different,” he argued. “It’s not!” I screamed and wanted to throw something out of frustration, “Fucks sake, for an immortal you seem like every other guy and their double standards. You left and didn’t tell me at all almost all night, but I’m just supposed to trust that it meant nothing?! Trust goes both ways, Morpheus! If you want me to trust you then you have to trust me.” “The mortal-” “Stop! This isn’t even about him really!” I pushed him back slightly, trying to get space, keep him from lording over me and talk down like I was a disagreeable child, “You know me! It doesn’t matter what he does, you should have trusted that I wouldn’t do anything! I would never have betrayed you like that, but you didn’t even give me a chance.” He snarled, “I did give you a chance. I watched you and not once did you dissuade his advances.” “Yes, you watched me which was a violation on its own,” my throat was thick with emotion, eyes stinging with anger and exhaustion and disbelief, “I have a life, Morpheus. I don’t get to stay in the Dreaming. I have to go to work, make money, interact with people on a daily basis. He’s my coworker, I work with him. If he asked me, I would have said I’m not interested but I was being friendly without making it awkward which is what humans do! So are you going to try and forbid me from being around other men?” The lights flickered and the air in the room was so oppressive it was hard to breathe, anger painting his face. I could see that red star in the shadowed half of his face, the way his jaw was sharp in rage.
He stepped closer and grabbed my chin tightly in his hand, forcing our eyes to meet, “I could. The difference between us is that I am a monarch with my own responsibilities that you cannot possibly fathom, not an indignant child to be berated. I will do as I wish as I see fit and the human deserved punishment for touching that which is mine. You did not come to me so I found you there with him. You have only yourself to blame for his fear.” “This is your fault!” “I did it because of you.” The memory seized me, hard and shocking. A different hand gripping my face in a bruising hold, spit and the hot smell of alcohol on my cheeks, hands scrambling for a hold as my balance was off kilter- My hand stung as it connected with his face hard, barely even shifting him as tears streamed down my cheeks. He didn’t react, didn’t move, fingers still on my chin. I pushed him, shoved, desperate and panicked like a wild animal until he let go and only the ache of his fingers on my face was left. “Get out,” I half sobbed, barely holding myself together, “Get the fuck out!” Anger still painted his face but it lessened as his eyes lightened and watched as I tried to keep from breaking down completely in front of him. His cheek was slowly turning red in the low light. My knees shook and I sank to the ground, hands digging into the carpet as I trembled and sobbed my throat raw. No sound except for my heaving breaths filled the room as I struggled not to hyperventilate, tears coming hot and fast. I wasn’t sure when he disappeared from in front of me, the air lightening a bit at one point, but I was too lost to even fully notice. I curled into a huddled ball on the floor, sobbing and wondering how it had all gone wrong.

does amber just point out it's pride month every time June rolls around to say "you know what that means" and see what people guess they're supposed to infer? that would be a little funni
yeah, they do :) every year they go up to their siblings and say "it's june. you know that this means?" or "you know what's coming right?"
the response they get vary from birthdays, graduations, small family occasions "[tv show] night this month, summer sale at the grocery store, etc" but sometimes they get to hear "it's pride month" and they crack a small smile and say "yeah :)"
they're honestly happy with whatever answer they get (unless it's bad new, then they'd respond with an "aw bummer")
they have small "picnics" in the inbetween realm with the entity because "pride month spells demon, so obviously i should spend some of this time with you."
if amber could embody one of the sins, it wouldn't be pride, but they can be prideful sometimes (their sin would be sloth)

A Lady in Waiting (1)
[A story in the works]
I don’t know about you, but I think that some, if not all of us, want to be someone else.
Especially in the realm of fantasy, where anyone could be as powerful as they could be.
But in this case, we just got to know the fellow before their transformation.
Otherwise, she’ll have no context.
Or us in that sense.
A Lady in Waiting
Chapter 1
“What a day.”
“I really want to buy something to eat”
“But I already ate, so why do I feel like buying snacks?”
“I traveled through whole crowds to get a limited edition Bakugan. That was the whole reason why I came here all this way for nothin, was to buy a special toy.”
The complainer over here is Brendon Rivera.
A college student, aged 22.
He often complained about stuff that happened to him.
Like the time he dropped a card onto a puddle of water.
[NOOOOO]
Or the time that he has to help out at work despite having no classes over the weekend.
[maaaaaaannnnnn]
Or the time that two buses passed by him.
[you absolute {beep-beep}, pieces of {beep}, {beep-beep}, I swear to lord I will {beep} {beep} {beeeeeep}.]
I’ll give him a pass for that. The bus system is a total mess.
Anyways, Brendon is walking around town moping about losing a toy that he didn’t need.
Until…he noticed a sign.
“Huh. That wasn’t there before.”
He takes a moment to read the sign.
Garage sale today. From 4/7 to 4/12.
Over on Gallon Road.
“Huh. A garage sale. Wonder if they have anything.”
This is where it began…ok maybe not.
It took Brendon five minutes to get there, mainly because he took his time walking.
But when he reached Gallon Road, he noticed a bunch of boxes, a couch, a few TVs, tables with several shirts, old big toys, shiny objects and oddly shaped objects.
“Huh.”
When he got closer, he saw a collection of toy cars, remote control cars, gold chain necklaces, even more shirts of different colors.
He also found lamps, vases, plates, a dark green couch with a patch of worn out red, a brown coat rack behind a pile of boxes and paintings.
“Oh dang.”
Then one object in particular caught his attention.
Two necklaces.
A pearl necklace fit for a lady.
And a necklace with a strange looking design, holding an egg-shaped white gem surrounded by six red gems.
Brendon found himself drawn to the large pearl.
He was bending over to get a closer look.
He developed an urge to buy them.
So he looked up and said,
“How much for these two?”
An elderly woman came over and told him,
“$120.34”
“Oh.”
[I mean…I was going to blow $250 on a limited edition Bakugan…]
“Ok”
[Welp, at least mom might like the pearl necklace.]
Brendon handed over 6 $20 bills, a quarter, and a dime, where he received a penny in return.
[I still have some money left over…but I better save it]
“Thanks!” Said Brendon.
“No problem!” The elderly woman chimed.
Brendon walked away with two pretty necklaces. An action that would change his life forever.
Now it begins.
It was a relatively uneventful evening at home.
After Brendon showed his mother the two necklaces, she was awestruck by the fancy necklaces and thanked him for the pearl necklace. Brendon put away his necklace to try on later because he has a lot that he should be doing.
Brendon helped with his sister’s homeworks (reluctantly I might add).
The family ate their dinner, took showers, and generally went to bed. However, Brendon decided to stay up a bit longer to check up on his necklace.
“Ok, let’s take a closer look.”
He picked up his necklace and studied it.
“Hmmm…oh dang…the white egg pearl is pretty big.”
“Like almost bigger than my thumb…”
“The shape of the gold looks like a fire fighter sign. There are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 rubies.”
“They’re also egg shaped.”
“It’s pretty heavy for a necklace, so I probably shouldn’t run with this.”
Brendon put on the necklace and looked into the mirror.
“Hmmmm….”
“Mmm…”
“I guess it’s nice.”
“…mmmm”
“I uh…”
“Umm”
Brendon doesn’t have any idea of what he bought.
Seriously, he has no fashion sense.
“I’ll keep it on for now. I might have an idea later on”
“Such as a plan for pumpkin spice latte.”
“Like how much pumpkin sauce should you use to keep it sweet but not too sweet.”
“There’s a coffee shop down the road, but it’s pretty expensive. But they do have croissants and pan dulce.”
“Man I could go for some pan dulce, maybe I can get some when I come back or such.”
“But I really don’t want to bump into Renaldo.”
“He’s rude.”
“Like the time that he sprayed me with water and I then slipped and fell from trying to catch him.”
“Or the time that he bumped me while I was dribbling the ball. Making me fall down.”
“Or the time that he put gum in my hair and I got in trouble for punching him.”
“Just unfair.”
That was years ago, Brendon.
“Like I’m just still mad over this.”
“Like I just don’t like him.”
“I hate him, honestly.”
“I hate his little goofy face.”
“I hate how he gets attention from everyone.”
“I hate how he gets away with shit.”
“I just don’t. Want. To. See. Him.”
He covers his mouth. And looks around.
“Oh shoot. I must’ve been pretty loud.”
“Sorry guys.”
He walks into the kitchen and looks at himself in the mirror.
“I honestly don’t like how I look like. I mean I’m messy. I stink. I’m generally the face of gross things…I wish I looked pretty. Like a dragon lady, with sexy clothes, a long tail, beautiful wings, and a voice that everyone goes ’Mama Mia’…”
Brendon snickers to himself.
“hehehe”
Then he takes a deep breath.
“Besides, I’m always the “quiet one.” Like I have stuff I want to say as well. Like for example, I like leotards….shit no…anything except for what I draw.”
“Never mind, I’ll probably just never mention that at all.”
“I sound like a pervert.”
“Ignore the part about the dragon lady stuff…”
Brendon sighs.
Then he went to the kitchen to clean the table to make space to draw his character.
He set the sketchbook down, opened up to a blank page and picked up his pencil.
He then put on his headphones to listen to his playlist of random songs that he liked.
“Ok, time to draw Madeline.”
Brendon proceeded to draw his character.
He drew the figure (body), he drew an overall leotard shape, he marked where the gloves and thigh highs would end, then he hurriedly drew a tail with fins.
Brendon stopped for a moment…
He started thinking…
Then he made quick shapes for wings, then sketched the fingers, the horns, the hair…
Along the way, he made a few mistakes.
Then he erased them.
Then he drew them again, made a mistake and erased.
This was how he usually draws…
He sketches the long skirt. Gotta have cover, I suppose.
He sketches the top part…
A…boob window…and a choker…
Oh boy.
The gloves…they’re baggy around the shoulders and tight around the wrist…
And he gave her a…rose…on the waist…
And…oh my…he’s drawing a vine pattern around the skirt…
how…complicated…
Anyways, Brendon’s eyes began to grow heavy. He stood up from his seat and began to yawn and stretch.
His piece remains as a sketch…
Smudges, furry lines, an overly simple face on top of a detailed body.
A front facing figure, hands that may not remain the same, multiple fabric folds.
Need I go on?
“Alright, that’s enough…” Brendon muttered.
He packed up his sketchbook.
Packed it into his backpack.
Brushed his teeth and tongue.
He hates the taste.
Then he went to bed.
OK…Now it begins.

A Lady in Waiting
Chapter 1
[something I should’ve written long ago]
I don’t know about you, but I think that some, if not all of us, want to be someone else.
Especially in the realm of fantasy, where anyone could be as powerful as they could be.
But in this case, a fellow is about to discover a secret that few have been offered.
Probably because she grown tired of all of the rejection. Whoops.

What is Digital Marketing?
Digital marketing encompasses all marketing efforts that use an electronic device or the internet. It's an umbrella term that covers a wide range of online activities aimed at reaching and engaging a target audience. Unlike traditional marketing, which relies on print media, TV, or radio, digital marketing leverages the power of the internet to connect with potential customers.
Key Components of Digital Marketing
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): SEO involves optimizing your website and content to rank higher in search engine results. This organic traffic source is critical for visibility and long-term online success.
Tumblr media
Content Marketing: Content is king in the digital realm. Creating valuable and relevant content helps attract and engage your audience. Blog posts, videos, infographics, and podcasts all fall under this category.
Social Media Marketing: Utilizing platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn to connect with your audience, promote your brand, and drive traffic to your website.
Email Marketing: Sending targeted emails to a list of subscribers can be an incredibly effective way to nurture leads and maintain customer relationships.
Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising: PPC campaigns involve paying a fee each time someone clicks on your ad. Google Ads and Facebook Ads are popular PPC platforms.
Affiliate Marketing: Partnering with individuals or organizations to promote your products or services in exchange for a commission on sales generated through their efforts.
Influencer Marketing: Collaborating with influencers in your niche to reach their dedicated followers and build credibility.
Analytics and Data Analysis: Collecting and analyzing data from various digital marketing channels to understand user behavior and make informed decisions.
The Digital Marketing Funnel
A fundamental concept in digital marketing is the marketing funnel, which represents the customer's journey from awareness to purchase. The funnel consists of three main stages:
Top of the Funnel (TOFU): This is the awareness stage, where potential customers become aware of your brand or product. Content like blog posts and social media posts can attract users at this stage.
Middle of the Funnel (MOFU): At this stage, users are considering their options and researching more in-depth. Guides, case studies, and email newsletters can nurture leads in the middle of the funnel.
Bottom of the Funnel (BOFU): This is the decision stage, where users are ready to make a purchase. Product demos, customer reviews, and targeted offers are essential at this point.
Crafting Your Digital Marketing Strategy
To succeed in digital marketing, you must develop a well-thought-out strategy. Here's a simplified step-by-step process:
Set Clear Goals: Define what you want to achieve with your digital marketing efforts, whether it's increasing website traffic, generating leads, or boosting sales.
Know Your Audience: Understand your target audience's demographics, interests, and pain points to create content and campaigns that resonate with them.
Choose the Right Channels: Select the digital marketing channels that align with your goals and where your audience spends their time.
Create Compelling Content: Develop high-quality, engaging content that addresses your audience's needs and interests.
Implement SEO Best Practices: Optimize your website and content for search engines to improve your organic visibility.
