Hmhm. Ship meme for Asobaroryuu, Vanlock, Susarei, and Homumiko? :O

For AsoBaroRyu. Oh boy. That is one combination that would have a lot of baggage to work through if DGS 2-4 and 2-5 are any indication. Honestly my one sticking point in this ship is Kazuma. He would have to mellow out quite a bit for it to work. Which is why I can't take this too seriously because it would be such a hot mess! (No shade to anyone who ships it and makes it work though. You do you.)

I like some platonic Kazuma & Barok though... and I head canon Barok van Zieks as the most Ace man who ever lived in Victorian England (and that is 100% projection on my part.) They would be a great investigative team though. They'd probably rival Sholmes and Mikotoba once they put their heads together!

Another hilarious ship. I love the concept of it. Just. The bickering and the tension between these two just give off the "bitter exes" vibe. But in order for them to be exes there had to be something there in the first place. (It would be so funny if being with Sholmes made Barok realize he was Ace somehow. lol) Never the less I still see the idea and have respect for those who ship it (especially if they have a sense of humor!)

I'm pretty neutral on SusaRei and that's not a bad thing. I just feel like the two of them could have had more screentime, or hints about their bond of friendship. I definitely see the idea (with Rei totally crushing on Susato/Ryutaro during that one trial in DGS 2) but honestly, I just see them as friends.

Aaaa, HomuMiko! It's got to be one of my favorite dynamics in The Great Ace Attorney as a whole. Platonic, romantic, queerplatonic, or something in between, you can tell these two have history. When they meet in the final case, they pick up exactly where they left off, as far as going on another adventure and starting up a Dance of Deduction.

The Great Ace Attorney really said "What if Watson was Japanese, and he and Holmes were both dads?" The answer is... we got two fantastic characters who make a good couple as well as good investigative partners, who should star in their own prequel spin-off! Fantastic!

2. a headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like!

kazuma moving into 221B after the events of the game. i'm pretty dead-set on the "he moved into his own rinky-dink apartment or just moved into barok's huge ass mansion" headcanons but didn't care much for the 221B one at first cause i didn't like the idea of him basically being like ryu's "replacement." but i came to like it for the sake of kazuma sorta having a support group that's arguably much healthier than, say, Lord Trauma van Zieks and i also like the found family aspect of it. also, there is a little fun angst in the replacement thing if we wanna get a little toxic about it, especially with herlock who now has had to say goodbye to two partners... (sorry if you were looking for mainline ace attorney- i havent really been into it lately and was stuck on coming up with any headcanons that i have any opinions of)

Gender Headcanon: Girl but also in a v loose sorta agender sense. I think it really boils down to - she honestly just doesn't care. Being gendered is fine, not being gendered is also fine, but she doesn't feel strongly either way

A ship I have with said character: Goulstrade! Ginasusa & ginasusahao are also noice, but I don't have any preference here

Sexuality Headcanon: Aspec first and foremost. He's definitely grayace with strong leaning on ace, but what flavoring of aro is he? Nobody knows and certainly not him. Don't even ask him what gender he likes, he'll bluescreen

Gender Headcanon: Guy... maybe. I think he never really questioned it bc he didnt need to, but at the same time he also wasn't raised with strict gender roles so he has a vague understanding of what a 'man' even is. Also considering everything that happened in his life gender is just so, so low on his thinking-about list. I can absolutely see him just realising he's agender as well as being just guy[tm] and everything in between.

A ship I have with said character: Vanlock my beloved,,,,, thank you for making me rotate them in my mind again (I mean this in a good way!). Both Barok & Herlock are such strong personalities that I can't help but love it. There are just so many aspects of them that i love!! Starting from the very surface level opposites (sad vampire - essentially a sunshine) to the more complex stuff like the fact that they're balanced just right to be able to find support and solace in each other without one of them auto devolving into a 'i-can-fix-them' state. I mean it - at the very core they're both flawed or even broken people. Barok's is just way more visible because he's all 'mysterious' and angsty and Herlock is mostly masking it with being silly. Anyway if I write any more this will turn into an essay,,, Also DLC case English side my beloved

A BROTP I have with said character: Aside from the canon friendship with Albert probably Runo post-canon whatever kinda friendship thing they have going on. I mean with how big-hearted Runo is and with Barok showing that he can change & repent for being, well, collosal asshole I can easily see them being friends. I can imagine something similar for Susato but she should be allowed to throw him to the ground first

A NOTP I have with said character: Him and Kazuma is probably the clearest "no" for me. Worsties turned cordial turned maybe eventual friends sure, but I feel like there is too much grievances and trauma between them to result in any sorta healthy relationship

A random headcanon: You even wondered how he's still so flexible? Barok is still practising ballet. In secret of course!

General opinion: Easily one of my favorite DGS charas and by a landslide my favorite prosecutor (I know my avatar say otherwise lol). He's incredibly complex and honestly I just have a soft spot for characters that are just so trauma ridden. I have opinions about that part of his arc and I would just rewite it to hating Asogi's specifically and Runo by extension since they're associated/friends. But at the end of the day and what really solds Barok to me is that he shown that despite being fucking awful he can change. He's not an immovable rock, he can understand being wrong, hell, he can apologise. Try to be better person. I can't help but adore that But yeah he absolutely should have his ass handed to him once or few times, no denying that (I could say also much more but divines I really dont want this to turn into an essay lol)

AAAAAAAH IM SCREAMING YES THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE BUT OHH MY OPINIONS I okay idk where to start or how to go about this or if im doing this right but i will do my best 🏃‍♂️

First of all, I think they're extremely fucking neat and continues to just Rot my Brain. I always saw Barok as a "I fucking hate this man (affectionate)" towards Herlock whereas Herlock is the "I can fix him" towards Barok but more on the mindset that he knows Barok has been through so much shit and all he really needs is a loving family that Herlock knows he can provide (and more) just so that he can see some genuine happiness cross the man's face for once after so long and I 🧍‍♂️ Herlock knows when and when not to be serious around him, it's just more so that he acts Like That when around Barok because maybe he just loves to piss him off (affectionately) or that's the only way how he knows how to show affection and tbh either is👌👌👌👌👌👌 Just the whole "im gonna tease the person i like because im too shy to say i like them!!" but instead of children it is Two Grown Men. Just love these two men who are playing gay chicken with each other and having their kid be like "lord just KISS already"

I also really like to think about how as a result of Barok wanting to spend more time with ris to make up for lost time, he HAS to spend time with Herlock and just the idea of his feelings for herlock developing into something more because of it makes me do fucking Backflips 😤😤

I also love love love to think about how the two may have bonded over loves never meant to be (Herlock -> Mikotoba; Barok -> Genshin) for just a Drop of Angst. The two being left alone in one of the most vulnerable times of their lives (Barok and the Professor/Herlock and Surprise Fatherhood) with the two probably seeing each other as kindred spirits in that sense and taking solace in each other's company when time allows like "wow your Married w/ a Child Japanese Best Friend that you totally had a thing for left you/betrayed you I'll Drink to That/Wanna Make Out" 😳 Perhaps they find that they have a lot more in common than they thought but they only start to really get together after the events of dgs2 when they've both (barok specifically) really dealt with their trauma...

you obviously couldn't have known that but asozieks could mean four ships! (because there are two van zieks brothers and two asougis - father and son)

but i will discuss only three of them because klintzuma is cursed and also can't really happen

starting with asobaro/baroaso - i ship it! hard!

1. the first thing that made me ship it is the first newspaper artwork. i thought that the masked apprentice couldn't talk, but they still fought together... could understand each other without a word spoken. at the time i already knew that this is kazuma. and fell in love

2. my favorite thing about them is how similar they are to each other and how similar their situations were. both believed in the wrong things, both put the wrong thing on a pedestal. and one thing turned out to be right of all the wrongness of their thoughts towards each other. genshin did really kill, in that barok was right. barok did really send a wrong person to the gallows, in that kazuma was right. and then, post-canonically, they have to work through their issues. and yeah, post-canon is a really interesting time to explore, which i also find so fucking good. i could go for hours i think

3. even though im pretty deep in the asobaro community, i have no idea if some of the ideas i believe in are popular. this thing is more of a kazuma thing than a ship thing, but. kazuma. doesn't. swear! especially at barok! this is not his way to act!

tldr: biggest otp, best ship. love platonically too

1. i don't ship it because there's so little about the two that is known. i first need to attach to a character, then think of their dynamics with another. maybe i just need a good fic to latch onto someone else's interpretation

2. barok could look starry-eyed not only on klint, but on genshin too. have this adoration of him. it's similar to how i view homumiko - the younger one respects and adores the older one, but the older one just. can't see him romantically. ties in with my view of vanlock (if platonic) - club for hopeless romantics....

3. i know few people that ship it, but if barok confesses, genshin would never say yes. genshin will never love barok the way he loves his wife, or klint, if you ship that one

How I feel about this character: I love him. He is indescribable. A true legend among men

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Tbh I don't really have strong feelings about any ships for him. I hc him as ace/aro, I just can't picture him being into someone like that. Of the ships I've seen for him, I like homumiko the best, tho the age gap jars me a bit (moreso for when they first met tho). Vanlock also has a lot of comedy potential lmao

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Honestly his interactions with every other character are fantastic. I wish we got to see more of him and van Zieks interacting bc I think their dynamic is hilarious (I'm still thinking about that post you made that said theyre like Shrek and Donkey WKJFSKJN)

My unpopular opinion about this character: if Gregson were hotter everybody would ship him and Sherlock, no I will not take this back

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Ohhh now there's a question....I would love to see him taking in Iris and learning through trial and error (lots of error...) how to be a parent

Hmm. At the moment I don’t have a specific otp, I quite like most dgs ships and I enjoy the content of any pair even if I’m not much into the pair itself. Though personally, I prefer most pairs among the main cast as brotps rather than ships but I’m fine with both (I just think any pair goes back to the found family dynamic).

I think I make an exception for homumiko which is the closest to something “official” in my opinion. I think at some point they had been lovers in the latest years (after so much pining and after Yuujin has been able to finally put his heart in peace after his wife’s death), but I wonder if perhaps they had to give up on their budding romance for the sake of their daughters. So, yes, I like them romantically and even then, the fact they’re still friends after so many years may also be due to lingering feelings too, perhaps. Yuujin is Iris'other father in Sherlock’s own words, their daughters are self-appointed sisters, it’s all a bit in-between. For these reasons, I can’t say I prefer them as a brotp, they never completely got over each other in my opinion and their family is the outcome, which is a beautiful outcome but they may also have sacrificed so much in the process. Homumiko is very sweet but also kind of melancholic and nostalgic and that’s what I like about them, it’s that kind of nostalgia that makes you yearn for that past where everything was simpler.

I like asobaro romantically too, but I prefer them as bros. They both saw each other at their lowest point and they have the past of their families in common, they share the same pain, they can understand each other more than anyone else. So either attraction plays a factor and they take the enemies to lovers route or it doesn’t and they become the older brother that Kazuma never had and the younger brother Barok also never had. Either way, even if Kazuma says he’ll never forgive Barok personally I don’t believe it and I think that lithe by lithe he will forgive him, even if he doesn’t realize it at first. I think Barok has so much competence and moral integrity despite his flaws that Kazuma will take him as a role model, but not without calling him out on his bullshit and putting him in his place. On Barok’s side, I believe that taking Kazuma under his wing has more than a meaning, on one side it could be not only his way to “repay” Genshin for his mistake but it could also be his personal mission: if he couldn’t help his brother at least he can keep an eye Genshin’s son. Having an apprentice could be a useful experience for his social skills too, he’d finally have some company in his office that is not that of those bats lmao plus he acknowledges Kazuma’s talent, and teaching him the trade would mean seeing him grow and learn new things himself, I really think that with time they’d learn to truly respect and trust one another and yes, I can also see them getting quite protective of each other, too. They’re both very caring people so it could be so beautiful to see their relationship develop, be it as lovers or as a family.

I’m intrigued by vanlock but I want to see it after Barok and Sherlock’s relationship has been worked around with a bit (their energies are very different so I think they should spend some more time together to get accustomed and to be willing to trust each other and from there I can see them go on the friends to lovers route). There’s still so much the two of them have to talk about, the past, Iris, and the future. They more or less respect each other but I’d like to see how Sherlock would choose to get close to Barok after everything that happened and how Barok would deal with it all. The reveal scene unfortunately didn’t deliver much. Like, I wonder what Barok really thought when it came out that it was Sherlock who raised his niece Imao I mean, even if they’d arrive at considering each other friends without romance involved they can’t be simply friends given the fact that there’s Iris in the middle, so either way, they’ll still be family, even begrudgingly so. There’s so much potential for comedy and laughs too, their family is sitcom material, surely.

Also, a shout-out goes to Connette Rozaic/Esmeralda Tusspells who’s my favorite witness of all the franchise, I think she’s cool of and I loved her mysterious yet cunning persona. Her moments with Sherlock were funny and awesome and I think she’d have an interesting dynamic with him but I also kinda crackship her with Barok as well, I just think they’d be perfect for each other.

So yeah, these are the dynamics I’d be more interested in exploring, I apologize if I made it so long ;;

I simp for Barok, Maria, Gina, Kazuma (I love the worsties especially as a squad) and Sherlock, with Iris and Yuujin as honorable mentions so for this duology I’m an ultra simp, I like Ryu and Susie a lot, too.

As for fics, I’ve read many and I look forward to any fic dealing with Homumiko, Asobaro, Vanlock, Barok and Iris, and/or Sherlock and Iris or all three of them together and the worsties squad be it angsty or wholesome. As of lately, I admit I’m getting more interested in Genshin and Klint too, even if they piss me off, I just want everything canon didn’t give us ;;

for the ask game, 002 vanlock?

Vanlock is one of those ships that I think should be more popular but isn't & instead gets dunked on a lot, so I ship it even harder

1. When I started shipping them:

They only had a few minutes of total passive aggressive bickering in DGS1 but I was still kinda "haha they're exes" about it, then in 2-2 they had SUCH a passive aggressive exchange it was SO funny. By the end of DGS with the Iris reveal & the DLC case & when I started reading a fic series by cremedelaclaire I was ride or die lmao

2. My thoughts:

Fellas is it gay to co-parent your long lost niece with her adoptive father who's both the local celebrity you're secretly a fan of and someone you have an unexplained past with? // Fellas is it gay to co-parent your adoptive daughter with her biological uncle who you've been secretly watching out for for the last decade and have an unexplained past with?

3. What makes me happy about them:

Iris! Also they're so funny together

4. What makes me sad about them:

It's unpopular and mocked :/ so many anti dgs shipping posts list vanlock first, like leave us alone there's so few of us haha

5. Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

I'm too much of a wimp for tragic endings, but I'm also not into "thoroughly hardened asshole to the core Barok" characterization

6. Things I look for in fanfic:

Happy endings and a heavy emphasis on their dedication to Iris

7. My wishlist:

If we ever got DGS3 I would mail Capcom cookies for canon confirmation they're co-parenting, even if they do it in the Capcom "but they're totally not married" way. I'd buy two copies if we got them doing a dance of deduction together (or Barok was the subject of one)

8. Who I'd be comfortable with them ending up with, if not each other:

Honestly I really don't like any other ships of theirs for a number of reasons. Post-canon only hmmk has grown on me a bit, but that's it

9. My happily ever after for them:

Iris & Herlock either move in (no bills anymore) or Barok buys their building (no bills anymore). I think Gina & Kazuma should too, they should live with the annoying found family as opposed to alone

words cannot express how much i love vanlock like i got into it for the exes energy at first in dgs 1 and then it all spiralled from there and i started reading fanfiction (there's this one really good author i absolutely adore) bro dude i was there when there were 36 vanlock fics on ao3 and 18 of them were in chinese i have remained devoted and i will continue to remain devoted to these gayasses

most of my thoughts ive already posted about them, some of them i plan to make into fics once school stops kicking my ass with a vengeance and im writing one right now but lemme try to highlight everything i like about their dynamic uhhhh

there is so much potential post-dgs2 for their dynamic because found family and [cOUGHs in dgs2 spoilers] and literally how are they NOT gonna have to be in contact 24/7 they are going to be married in 10 years if iris has anything to say about it.

we dont know ANYTHING about their history even though they clearly have a history which is just a green flag for headcanons to go wild, i mean im already deadset on the idea that both of them at least minored in theater with how fuckin flamboyant they are so van zieks majored in law while herlock majored in either chemistry, engineering, or the art of driving everyone insane. or everything idk

they must have done a stage kiss at least once that was extremely fraught with actual romantic/sexual tension that everyone but them noticed and was extremely awkward about. benjamin/albert happens to be with van zieks when they both see herlock in the present and albert is like "oh hey i remember him you guys did that really awkward stage k-" and van zieks is like "please stop talking"

i said this in another post but it is so unclear what their relationship is that you could assign so many things to it. exes, divorcees, one night stand, several night stands, coworkers with benefits, secretly married, what are you i could write so much fanfiction about you there are so many potential complex emotions and conflicted feelings and regret and i live for that shit

i'm pretty sure herlock DOES trust van zieks to some extent and my memory is fuzzy but i don't think he's ever really indicated that he actually thought van zieks was The Reaper despite calling him shinigami-kun/reapy/mr. reaper and such?? correct me if im wrong but he seems to subtly guide ryuu into realizing that barok is not in fact a murderer

the london dlc case literally has me reeling like sholmes used his very questionable connections to find out van zieks' birthday and then both he and iris snuck into his office to do nice things for him what the fuck like this was a family project?? they straight up adopted him and he didnt notice

i read this one addition to my post where someone talked about how barok and sholmes are a lot nicer to each other in private and sholmes says "barok" instead of reapy and i havent seen much of 2-5 but i dont even care if it's true or not im making it canon in my head im so down bad for the enemies in public softer in private dynamic like shizaya or dabihawks

the way the public actively avoids both of them, one of them because he's annoying and the other because he's supposedly a murderer is good flavor i enjoy that and i enjoy people gawking at them being in public together interacting normally i read this one fic where barok was used to observing the thirteen foot distance between him and the crowd and then herlock joined him and he was like oh. it's fourteen feet now ahskdGSDGSHKkjhdsjh

gina iris and the apprentice teasing/exposing barok for his crush on herlock is also very fun, and vice versa

them being like "my masked apprentice is better" "no ryuunosuke is better"while said apprentices are making out

they qualify for my "teachers that have tried to kill each other at least once and are also probably married and students have no idea what their relationship is" au that i lovingly bestow on all my older people ships

I'm curious as to how people do Vanlock, because it's the one popular TGAA ship that I just can't stand. (I can see the logic, but just like you said, it requires something to have been there first. You have to give Barok a solid reason to forgive Herlock for lying about both Iris and Kazuma, and I just can't see him doing it.) So I pretty much agree with your analysis here! :O

Fair about Susarei, tbh- I think they need a bit more to them: Asoryuu in 1-1 did about the same thing, but they had a lot more time to do it in. It can really go either way!

Homumiko, well, I don't know anyone who actually dislikes it! xD They'd be an excellent choice for a prequel, honestly - I would really love a prequel more than anything. (If only for Baby Barok and Klint but you know!)

For AsoBaroRyu. Oh boy. That is one combination that would have a lot of baggage to work through if DGS 2-4 and 2-5 are any indication. Honestly my one sticking point in this ship is Kazuma. He would have to mellow out quite a bit for it to work. Which is why I can't take this too seriously because it would be such a hot mess! (No shade to anyone who ships it and makes it work though. You do you.)

I like some platonic Kazuma & Barok though... and I head canon Barok van Zieks as the most Ace man who ever lived in Victorian England (and that is 100% projection on my part.) They would be a great investigative team though. They'd probably rival Sholmes and Mikotoba once they put their heads together!

Another hilarious ship. I love the concept of it. Just. The bickering and the tension between these two just give off the "bitter exes" vibe. But in order for them to be exes there had to be something there in the first place. (It would be so funny if being with Sholmes made Barok realize he was Ace somehow. lol) Never the less I still see the idea and have respect for those who ship it (especially if they have a sense of humor!)

I'm pretty neutral on SusaRei and that's not a bad thing. I just feel like the two of them could have had more screentime, or hints about their bond of friendship. I definitely see the idea (with Rei totally crushing on Susato/Ryutaro during that one trial in DGS 2) but honestly, I just see them as friends.

Aaaa, HomuMiko! It's got to be one of my favorite dynamics in The Great Ace Attorney as a whole. Platonic, romantic, queerplatonic, or something in between, you can tell these two have history. When they meet in the final case, they pick up exactly where they left off, as far as going on another adventure and starting up a Dance of Deduction.

The Great Ace Attorney really said "What if Watson was Japanese, and he and Holmes were both dads?" The answer is... we got two fantastic characters who make a good couple as well as good investigative partners, who should star in their own prequel spin-off! Fantastic!
