Having of those moments where I wish to yeet the like button into the sun or maybe make it so there was setting you could turn on so that people can only reblog posts (even better with the minimum requirement of adding at least one tag)!!
It's kind of absurd that one of my fics is getting close to 500 notes while simultaneously being one I've had the least actual human interactions come from. Like...... come on, that's now how it should be AT ALL!
Don't get me wrong, I'm so thrilled people are clearly finding it and I guess enjoying it(??) but just having endless likes without people letting me know what they enjoyed about it or even if they liked it kind of makes me sad. That's not why I want to share my writing here!
I love having those little human connections with others. I don't ever want my writing to feel transactional. I would love to talk to more people about things I've written. It's truly one of the best feelings and I would hate to lose that, the more I write or the more notes my fics get. Please don't be shy!! I get the social anxiety, but there is no reason to be. I am truly just a Din Djarin obsessed loser.
Anyway, whine over. I don't want to focus on the negatives here and I appreciate every single person who has ever left a positive interaction with something I've written. You are truly a light!
#i don't JUST like posts too often#really the only posts i dont reblog but like are to save for later or if it's too personal/explicit#or i guess i have nothing to add and OP has said it all yknow#but if i see some writing or art i love then hell yeah i always force myself to add at least one tag i like just so the artist/author sees#otherwise it feels like a hollow transaction and i really want people to know i appreciate their art more than just pressing a button yknow#and I KNOW it's intimidating at first to interact with others!! TRUST ME i get it and i'm still awful at it#but just one little comment can make someone feel so good about their writing... why wouldn't someone want to try that at least#especially if you enjoyed it!!! even a key smash or a string of emojis!!!#and the death of the tumblr tag is SO SAD because where else am i meant to talk to you lot?#i mean these tags are longer than my actual post and that's the beauty of tumblr#you don't have to perceive me down here but you can if you wish and i love you for that!#and it's a nice way to organise your blog to make it navigable for others#ANYWAY said i was done whining and continued whining down here so there's that LOL but i always want to interact with more people#please do not be afraid of reaching out to me! scroll through my blog for 5 seconds and you'll see what a nerdy loser i am#akdjgds i mean aren't we all here#spud rants#writing#but thanks again to anyone who leaves nice comments im giving you a (consensual) forehead smooch MWAH

I just ran out of tags... give me a second
I've been seeing posts about Scooby Doo popping up, so I thought I'd share this:
(Source: The Scots Magazine, Feb 2023) Full text below.
This actually happened. I am obsessed!
The passion! The energy!
Amazing!
Such signage!
(Images: Daily Record)
A brilliant effort all round! The children of Scotland saved a pop culture powerhouse the world would be poorer without. I can't believe this. I love this so much.
Text of the article:
FROM THE VAULT
Strange tales from the archives. This month – How furious fans of cancelled cartoon rose up in protest.
By CHRIS Ferguson, Jan 12, 2023 (The Scots Magazine)
THROUGHOUT the ages, principled protest has been a hallmark of youth – a rite of passage for many. Today it is Greta Thunberg and her army of teen climate activists, or Extinction Rebellion protesters, who make headlines.
In the 1960s it was the Vietnam War objectors and Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament believers who set out their political agendas.
In later decades young people swelled the ranks of those demanding an end to apartheid in South Africa.
They were at the barricades as then-pm Margaret Thatcher introduced the poll tax and back out again to try to stop the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Another generation, too, had the courage of its convictions. In 1971, youngsters rose in anger at a threat to remove cowardly canine Scooby-doo from their television screens.
This was in February after the cartoon had been running for two years. Although the decision not to commission another series had been taken in the US, the BBC was the target of fans’ fury because it had to pass on the bad news to young viewers.
Within days of the announcement, an army of parka-wearing children sporting knitted jumpers and questionable hairstyles was formed.
Across Scotland children grouped together with placards, just like so many other worthy protesters before them. In Glasgow, the massed kids marched on the BBC Scotland headquarters and, in Dundee, they gathered in outrage in City Square.
Petitions were raised and demonstrations took place across the country and, by April, the BBC announced a further series had been commissioned in the US.
Legend has it these Scots Scooby fans had persuaded the American television executives to reconsider.
Hanna-barbera, the animation company behind Scooby-doo, never forgot the Scottish reaction.
A spokesman for the company said, “We’d never had a response like that before, it was very exciting.”
Beneath the main text of the article is an illustration of Scooby Doo and the gang accompanied by the pull quote: “An army of parka-wearing children was formed”
The title and byline of the article are also accompanied by a black and white photo of a boy in school uniform sitting with a little black dog in his lap, grinning and holding a sign reading "We've saved Scooby Doo" with an illustration of Scooby. The caption reads: Jimmy Brown fought to save the cartoon."]
#oh my god..... oh my god oh my god OH MY GOD#i am going down the line of every single person who reblogged this before me to bring it here and high five and a hug each one of you#scooby goes hollywood is my favorite scooby doo movie. its also tied for my favorite movie ever. there are two scenes in that movie that#really move me emotionally. during that scene i sometimes cry. this puts everything in a new light#i have multiple posts trying to learn more and get in the heads of scooby execs as they wrote and drew this movie.#the historical context and place of it in scooby history and history at large. it was released in december 1979. the end of a decade.#and people especially people at scooby were thinking about endings. scooby doo as a series was in danger yet again. theyd been doing the#same thing for years. bringing in guest stars bought them time but the fact was that their budget and quality were decreasing and interest#in new episodes was waning to the point that reruns of original WAY episodes were believed to do as well as new episodes coming out (so why#make more?) they didn't want to give up though. so they tried something new a last ditch attempt to save scooby and make it fresh again.#a new character but the name of scrappy doo. scrappy was introduced in september. this movie came out in december.#in the (admittedly light) research ive done online i havent been able to find when production for this movie started or when the first#storyboards were created. i dont know if that moment came before or after september 21st 1979. was it originally goodbye or a new hello?#i think like the end of a decade its going to be both. but after seeing this i believe its more of the latter. this movie is about saving#scooby doo. but its also a celebration of those who love scooby itself. also a parody of 70s pop culture but ill come back to that later#but its also a congratulations a message from the makers to scooby to the watchers of it. they say: you saved scooby in 1971 and we love#you for it. SCOOBY loves you for it. and youve done it again here in 1979. but here we've done it together. because WE love scooby too. we#need and love him just as much as you all do. we care. and that is a wonderful sweet and earnest message!#on its own that is the story of an amazing movie! and i would love goes hollywood to PIECES if that was all it was. but it goes DEEPER.#IT SAYS MORE. because the date is december 1979. it is the end of a decade and start of a new. people are asking themselves what will the#next ten years look like? what will i do? who will i become? but theres more to it. because scooby doo is just over ten years old.#the children who grew up loving and watching the original scooby doo---the children in those pictures above us---they're teenagers now.#theyre young adults who are having to go out into the world and answer those questions. and one of magical things about this movie is that#it follows scooby asking himself those same exact questions. who am i really? what do i want to become? what will happen next? and hanna#barbera answers those questions! they say its coming to the time for you to branch out and become your own person. this likely wont go as#you plan. you may find yourself trying to be cool and mature and only end up embarrassing yourself. you may find you have trouble becoming#the hero you dream. you may find someday that you are spinning in a beautiful field only for the ground to open up under your feet. but you#will be okay! because like scooby you cant forget you have people who love you for you to lean on. you have your mentors like cj and the#many people who you dont know yet but will admire you all the same. you also have your family. you need to lean on the shaggys in your life#the velmas the daphnes the freds. you will ALWAYS have your family to come back to. and scooby doo will always be here for you too. at the

please dont do this. this isnt fucking tiktok or twitter. likes are saves. they are the save button. unless you are trying to save every single one of my posts (which you shouldn't, there are over 800), you shouldn't be liking them all in a row like this.
please reblog my shit instead of liking it. likes are not a motivator. they do not mean you actually enjoy my stuff, they mean you want to save it to see it later.
i dont want to be added to the hundreds to thousands of posts in your saved folder that you will never look at again.
this is not a call out to this person in the screenshots, you likely just didn't know.
likes are not post boosters. they do not ensure more people see the post. the only post boosters are reblogs. without reblogs, a post will die. from then, blazes are the only way to revive them, which are costly.
please reblog, not like. only like the stuff you also reblog, the things that you want to see again. i like writing, motivational posts, and art. i like fundraisers that i want to revisit when i have more money. even though i like these, i also reblog them to make sure other people can see it, and the OP gets the recognition they deserve.
if you dont want to reblog things on your main blog because it doesnt fit your blog theme, make an alternate blog for your reblogs. it doesnt need followers to reach people. all you need is the reblog and the tags the OP added. feel free to add your own tags. add a comment to your reblog. it doesnt matter. just reblog instead of liking.
sorry for the two serious posts in a row, i just really wanted to address this.

I largely keep to myself in fandoms, only picking up the odd friend here-and-there or joining a group chat if I'm feeling brave enough. But all of this Twitter talk is making me want to try engage with folks on the platform too! My only gripe isn't even surrounding the community, since you can curate your space like you said, it's the lack of organisation and the dreaded infinite scroll on pages. I adore Tumblr for how easy you can come back to a particular post you reblogged a long time ago, or venture through the tags on somebody's page... but it feels as though that's not possible on Twitter with how it operates. Are there any ways to get around this? 🤔
tl;dr - if you're trying to find a specific topic on someone's page, type 'topic (from:@Username)'
example: minedai (from:@Snapperoni)
if you're trying to save a post to look at later, you can either use twitter's own bookmark feature, or you can use your browser's bookmark feature
long ass unnecessary winded edition below the cut
twitter's less organized than tumblr since tumblr's meant for proper organizational blogging instead of status-update-type posts like twitter (even if its blog tag search system only decides to work depending on the phase of the moon on tumblr), so fundamentally its going to be a little more awkward with organization. there's some things you can do though, and it's not impossible: it's just a little extra work
in my experience it's a lot easier to just 'run into' new accounts and posts once your algorithm knows what you like and i prefer to use twitter that way for finding art or discussions im interested in. trusting the wind and all and the wind's done me well to show me excellent art.
you can help curate your algorithm by going into your Settings -> Privacy And Safety -> Content You See. you cant manually type in topics to add (you CAN save searches though if that's anything: it just means you dont have to type in the thing you want to search when you go to the search bar), but again once you start liking posts it'll start to recommend topics like 'Yakuza' that you can add. you can also remove topics you dont like once they show up in the list under Content You See -> Interests
another way around is to just search your interest (i.e. 'baseball') and just start liking/retweeting a bunch of posts and the algorithm will do the rest for your For You page. following accounts posting the topic you like also helps (obviouslylol)); searching terms on twitter is a fine way to see people post about a thing you like. its like tumblr in that it'll only show you posts that have the tagged word (i.e. 'minedai) in the actual post (i.e. 'if i think about minedai for more than three seconds im going to eat gravel')
at most for coming back to a post you like, you can use the bookmark feature: ive used it. A Lot. and True it gets harder to find older bookmarks as time goes on but for what it is it's been nifty for me. i dont exactly look at bookmarks any older than maybe a month at this point, so it doees its job fine for my needs. if you're on desktop and you really want to save a post without using twitter's bookmark feature, then you can always use your browser's own bookmark feature (i do that with tumblr posts sometimes. it's definitely easier to organize things that way but i also can see how it might appear cumbersome)
trying to find a specific post or type of post from someone's 50/50 though, like tumblr (because i repeat its tagging system is only so reliable sometimes). unless they use tags or you remember a particular phrase they put in the post (you can search specific terms, that including tags) then you just have to scroll i fear. other than that, if you search the term you want and the account youre trying to look through (i.e. minedai (from:@Snapperoni) then it should show up: if anything, twitter's more reliable in actually showing you the post you're looking for so long as you have the term typed correctly
and ermmmm yeah i think thats all i got LOL. best of luck to using twitter
#long post#snap chats#twitter's very quick to adapt to my new interests its really funny#i dont know how or why it is but the minute im starting to think of something a lot#SUDDENLY i see hella posts relating to it- i wont even search for it one day i'll just see a post related to it#id like to thank my beautiful mutuals and the people i follow for that i guess LOL#but yeah. if you have any more questions ask me. i suppose jVLKAEJ#im a bit rambly here and it makes sense to me but that doesnt mean it makes sense to everyone so ill be happy to clarify if need be

re: previous post, blog tips!
if just a general pjo blog, that's your house man do what you want. In general though just being frequently active and posting original posts will draw people to your blog. That's just kind of how blogging works. tbh same applies to most social media. just tag things appropriately and you're good (don't crosstag [tag irrelevant stuff, ex: tagging specific characters on a post that does not reference them specifically] and you probably need less tags than you think in general. fandom tags + whatever your own blog's organizational tags are is probably sufficient.) I'll throw some general pjo tagging tips below a cut at the bottom of this post. And obviously don't repost other people's stuff, that's a given. Reblogging is fine, obviously, that's a different thing. The only other thing I would specifically advise is making sure to enable custom themes on your blogs, just cause it's a nice way to show people you're not a bot, customize your blog, and it's just way easier to navigate. Just pick a theme that has very clear buttons, please. Previous/next page, like, reblog, etc. I've personally been enjoying the theme Vision recently.
For askblogs specifically - particularly if your askblog is heavily story-based or OC-based, people aren't likely to reblog frequently from you, so it can be hard to get traction on your askblog. That's just kind of the nature of askblogs. People are also very unlikely to reblog advertisement posts for askblogs. Ergo, best way to get traction on your askblog is to post general art or etc (depending on genre of askblog) occasionally, particularly towards the beginning of the blog, especially little memes and jokes. Also again just posting regularly and tagging appropriately. If you need asks, you are allowed to send yourself prompts or ask your friends to send you ones. I also personally recommend saving asks, since some you might be able to use later or maybe just don't have an idea for yet.
Also if you're starting an askblog, ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE you open your inbox! Turn on anon if you're able. And if your inbox gets overwhelmed only turn off anon, don't close the inbox completely. Turning off anon will limit the amount of asks you get by a lot. Most askblogs i've seen that have become inactive or died are askblogs that closed their inbox and lost steam as a result, or never opened their inbox to begin with and didn't realize. Also label your blog clearly as an askblog. Askblogs and rp blogs are different things. If it's an RP blog, don't label it as an askblog, and vice versa, unless it is genuinely intended to be both, in which case label it as both, but know 90% of the time if you intend for it to be both it will end up purely an rp blog anyways. Askblogs, even text askblogs, are just a different beast. You can always make two sideblogs for the same character if you'd like.
Tagging advice below the cut cause this got long:
With PJO specifically, general tagging tips - "pjo" and "riordanverse" are the main two to tag stuff with for main series stuff. You can tag stuff "percy jackson" cause that is the series name but i personally try to refrain from that on this blog at least cause it's also a tag shared with a specific character. Obviously if it's side series, MCGA + Magnus Chase or TKC + The Kane Chronicles respectively, plus "riordanverse." I dont usually tag HoO/Heroes of Olympus or TOA/Trials of Apollo unless it is very specifically about those series and not just the characters from that series. Really please stop flooding the HoO and TOA tags with irrelevant stuff. Just keep it to specific-to-that-series.
Also PJO specific character names i just do [whatever name they usually go by in the series] + [surname or if lacking surname, "[series abbreviation]"], so like Leo would be "Leo Valdez" or Dakota would be "Dakota PJO." For deity chars i tag same as no-surname, "[god] PJO" or "[god] TKC" or whatever. For Reyna specifically there seems to be a lot of variations of how her name gets tagged, such as including her middle name or not including the accent or hyphen. I usually try to tag her as "Reyna Ramírez-Arellano."
I usually order tags [series] > [characters] > [etc] + [personal blog organization tags and/or any content warnings necessary] > [commentary tags]. For awhile it was tumblr only counted the first like 5 tags for what to show in tag searches, i think it might be first 20 tags now? unclear. doesn't really matter.
Anyways don't crosstag cause that's spam and otherwise do whatever you want forever have fun
#pjo#riordanverse#askblogs#long post //#ask#< tagging this ask since it's a cont. of the previous ask

I noticed the post you reblogged with all the info stuffs, I'm glad I got to see it cause I didn't know about like half that stuff. I use to mainly lurk before making an account for one reason or another. Though the one thing I'm confused about is likes. I use it as a 'save post' button to find easily later. That's normal, right? Cause I see a lot of posts that seem to imply nobody should use it at all? I dunno if I'm just misunderstanding tho.
So, liking something and reblogging are 2 dofferent beasts.
Of you like somthing, go ahead and like it, thats never going to stop. But when you only do that, its basically telling the OP thats its not worth a share.
These days, Reblogging seems to have fallen into a niche- Twitter uses likes to share things, Instagram has Likes instead of shares but Tumblr has reblogs.
There is no algorithm, there is little to nothing where people can find our art - written, drawn, etc.- We are basing it on people liking certain tags and then sharing it with their likeminded followers.
A lot of us have had bad ratios, where the number of likes HEAVILY outshine the reblogs.
Its not uncommon to see 252 Likes v 24 reblogs.
Likes dont do shit for anyone in this site. Its just a kudos. Its the reblogs- where you share it to more and more people thats better.
As for the likes as a Save Post button, that's not normal no. Ive never really seen people use that to go back and find a post.
I see people reblog and add #save post or #Need this for later so it can be found. I highly suggest using that method instead.
This ended up more ranty then i intended but ive been here when reblogs and likes were even side to side.
And if you dont want to post it on your main blog, create a side blog for it.
Edit: Slight Correction Likes werent normalized as a Save feature For Me. Seems a few other users did use it that way so take it as you will/

a reply only shows up on the posts notes, while a reblog makes a copy of the post on your blog. replies basically don't show up on your blog while reblogs are designed for that specifically.
reblogging does not steal content, it simply shares it via your page! the point of reblogging is to show off or save other people's stuff, and since it always links back to the original post, there's no stealing involved!
some artists prefer reblogs over likes since likes dont show up on your blog unless you turn that feature on so its not great for sharing content. but thats entirely up to you how you want to run your blog. I reblog posts i find fit my aesthetic or "vibe" ig or I want other people to see, or posts I want to save for later viewing. and I like posts simply as a way to say I like the post, even if its not really something I want on my blog (since my likes are hidden)
and you follow literally whoever you want. if you want see more content like that, follow the reblogger because that shows they reblog stuff like that.. if you want to see more art in that style or fandom, follow the original artist so you can see more of their art
hope this helps any
This really helped, thank you so much! Everyone here are so nice so far, it's amazing!

hey, i'm sharky! welcome to my clip dump. the dedicated blog, anyway. i'm one of failboat's moderators, and i've been in his community for, as of writing this, over 6 years. which is more than a third of my life. which... doesn't really sound like something to be proud of lmao. anyway, i've witnessed a lot of weird and funny moments over that time, and i figured someone oughta make clips of those moments. so that's what i'm doing now! and why you're reading this post!
by the way, this is one of those things where i see other people doing something and i'm like "i wanna do that too!". so don't be surprised if i suddenly stop uploading clips. frankly i'd be shocked if i end up keeping this going for a while lol
submitting clips
look, i have a busy life, what with school and prepping for college, and there's probably MONTHS worth of content to look through. that's why i need YOUR help to find good clips! now, i'm only looking for the best stuff, not just something mildly interesting. i hope you don't mind me being picky. ...then again, i tend to laugh a lot at this guy's content. but anyway!
Here's how you can submit:
the "Submit a clip" button at the top of this blog
under this post via reblogs/replies (you cannot attach video files this way; links are not clickable in replies)
you can TRY sending an ask? i believe in order to send a link with an ask you need to break it up. generally they do not work
eventually i want to have a video on the channel dedicated to submissions. will update on that later
if you post your own clips, please let me know if you're ok with me uploading them! and whether or not you want credit for making the clip
Submissions must include either:
an already clipped video file with a link to the source (be sure it's high quality and shows nothing other than the video itself! i dont want to see video UI or any amount of the rest of the page. just to save me some time lol)
a link to the source with the clip timestamped (either in the post or linked to that spot) and a description of the clip
a link to a clip made using youtube's tool with a description of the clip
you can optionally include a title with your submission but be aware i may not use that title
Clips may be sourced from:
vods on stream storage or unlisted streams (PREFERRED)
videos from the main channel or dinghy (most of these are edited streams, if the moment can be found in a vod use the vod only unless the editing enhances the bit)
videos not on any of failboat's channels but that he appears in
i'd prefer that sources be only from within the past ~5 years. i'd rather not dig up anything too old and potentially cringe-worthy i hope you understand lol
this info is absolutely subject to change. if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

aight im making a post so i can say im using this shit like an actual diary
right now i have a grandeur of disorganization on my phone (laptop too but thats been a piece of junk since forever, fuck acer), between the basically full storage, mostly from the gallery (as of now i have a grand total of 93k photos. yes, 93 000 photos and videos.) plus my socials are fucked between the excessive saved and liked posts on instagram, same goes for tumblr here and twitter (i dont really use twitter, i only have an account to like and bookmark posts) and the youtube playlists and chronology.
plus my room is all messy with my not enough space for clothes and random papers and shit thrown together on any surface
i decided i dont like that and im changing it.
for the storage, i have already started deleting quite a bit, right now i deleted like 2300 elements but theres a lot more. sad part is that a lot of it is porn, wether drawn or short videos. im not gonna go full monk and delete all of it, though it would be easier, cause some of it i like. not to talk about the amount i already had to transfer on the laptop when i was tired of receiving warnings about the full storage in the last 2 years. i was also thinking of doing a backup of the whatsapp chats on the laptop so i can delete all the data on the phone storage. it would save me like 6 gb but its kinda extreme.
for socials, the solution is the same. tumblr: gradually remove liked posts i dont need to keep saved, and post what ive been keeping to post like i should have. last i checked, i had like 35k liked posts, and again, a lot of it porn. im not sure i want to post porn and erotica on this blog so for now im reblogging it on an alt, hoping it doesnt get deleted again. then ill have to unfollow some of the 4k blogs im following. guess what part of them are?
instagram, im not even going to remove all of the saved posts. its the social i used most to scroll at, i dont have the option to see how many posts i have saved but i dont think it would be an exaggeration to say i have at least a million. yea i know. im just going to get to a certain post i remember saving this summer, once im at that i will probably make another account altogether since i would never be able to clean all of it. i started this on around mid to end january, and as of now im just at mid october. after something like 20 non consecutive hours. yea its bad. it wouldnt be worth it to go past a certain point. better to just make a new one at that time and be more careful there.
youtube, i have the same problem of all social, i open a video just to keep it in the chronology so i can check it later and maybe save it. ive done it far too much. at least youtube is much faster to clean, but again i would never be able to check every single video i have left in the chrono to save at a second moment. thankfully once im done i could just go on settings and choose to do a tabula rasa of it, removing it completely.
twitter is probably also not worth the trouble of sitting thru all the posts i liked as a way of saving them. i probably shouldnt even care about it. this one has the least priority.
saved tabs on the browser? the easiest one by far out of all of it.
my room and the house in general, there isnt any second road, i just have to first remove and throw what i clearly dont need, store away whats left with some degree of order and hope i saved some space, and try to keep clean, plus store things with stricter orders so its cleaner. after my room and things, its time for the rest of the house.
all of this will be slow, gradual, and a major pain in the ass, but it has to be done and i intend to do it.
and all of this doesnt even include having to remake and update my cv and linkedin in preparation for when my contract ends, planning what to do for university between tests and papers and documents needed and all that, and this arguably has higher priority than all of above time and importance wise. but yknow. actually you dont know. even i dont know.

I accidentally stumbled upon this post and saw this reblog so I'm only replying now rip.
Okay so, I would argue you can see still read it through generational trauma lens, because those are still harmful ideas drilled into people's head by their families from a young age, i dont think society & generational trauma is smth contradictory, as those two things influence each other and especially in this case lay on the same base. It's like when there's a religious trauma in a traditional household; it's because of years and years of church forcing those toxic ideas, yes, but they were passed down from a family member to another family member and when no one broke the cycle and for example someone's grandpa ended up struggling with his homosexuality n punishing himself for it and teaching you to do the same - I'm no scholar but I can see it as a generational trauma and society's standards coexisting. I do, however, agree, that it's on much lesser scale/is more vague and less personal and a more spread out trauma than the caroline thing.
Victor being characterized by 'girlish' attributes is So interesting, and the historical context you provided - i definitely can see what mary shelley was doing! Also out of curiosity, what was the view of 'nervous/emotional' man before romanticism? Like in the age of enlightment when victor was raised in the story? (if i mixed up the dates then sorry😭 i also know the start and endings of era's aren't as easily distinguishable as 'it started with the french revolution' but yeah I think he was still raised with enlightment ideas).
I loveee how frankenstein is a book written so,, not secretively, but in a way 'if yk yk' lmfao, there are just layers upon layers and they not only add to the great storytelling but were necessary for this book to have any kind of success.
Victor always seemed to be the Lucky one (in eyes of the in-the-story crowd) as he posseses all a human could want in such an unfair society- he's a white rich man with genius talent. Yet, nothing could save him as long as he doesn't play along with the society's game. It's just never enough, no matter what he has and what he gives - as long as he has trouble with fitting into this given role... it's over. He's on his own.
And the letter... I remember when i read it back when I still havent finished frankenstein and it pretty much formed my view on victor&alphonse. Victor's conflicting feelings towards his father, as in, his idealization along with resentment, might not only be a natural and well-written trauma reaction but an exact way mary shelley herself have felt whenever she thought of Godwin. Like, he was quite horrible, and yet, in her childhood, she was his favorite, a daddy's daughter; later on in life she also reconnected with him despite it all. It really shows another side of parental emotional abuse: it comes from a person who raised you, your family, someone you normally wouldn't want to lose.
I had no idea (or forgor) about the dedication.. that just hits me right in the feelings. Sorry for not having much to say, I agree with all you said!
It's interesting how the second sentence victor starts the story with is "My ancestors had been for many years counsellors and syndics" and while i always focused on the effect it has on, for example, victor; trying to see the life of alphonse is also interesting in the way we can observe his trauma leaking out into his parenting methods and attitude towards his kids and wife.
Like,
-It is said they have a long history with being important and engaged in country's business. And as we see Alphonsa followed it, (and i highly suspect even when he sent victor to college he still expected him to take over this position later on), probably not having much of a choice either. It was all passed down, and even the character of this job is being passed down too. For example, traits fitting this job - responsibilities/brain over feelings. A sense of duty that follows them everywhere. Love isn't unconditional, it's a duty, as well as everything else they do.
It seems like he's just passing down the generational trauma.
Another instances where his bad experiences are being reflected in his behavior towards victor and others is also seen here:
-His dearest friend suddenly disappeared. Turns out he hid because of hurt pride of losing his fortune, simultaneously almost destroying his daughter's life bc of that as well as his own. and Alphonse felt betrayed that this false pride was more important than their friendship = notice how Alphonse assumes the reason for victor's misery is a false pride. And desperatively wants to keep his family in close-circle, so they won't leave each other. And him.
-He looked for the friend for a long time without stopping, but in the end was disappointed. "But when he entered, misery and despair alone welcomed him. Beaufort had saved but a very small sum of money from the wreck of his fortunes; but it was sufficient to provide him with sustenance for some months, and in the mean time he hoped to procure some respectable imployment in a merchant’s house. The interval was consequently spent in inaction; his grief only became more deep and rankling, when he had leisure for reflection; and at length it took so fast hold of his mind, that at the end of three months he lay on a bed of sickness, incapable of any exertion." = notice how he always thinks despair is useless and leads to even worse consequences, so, feeling things is BAD.
-After making a big deal out of loving and finding the friend, the moment he actually sees him dead, instead of thinking about that or even mentioning alphonse was sad or smth, theres not a single sentence about alphonse's reaction or even of that friend anymore, instead all attention drifts to beautiful poor Caroline and suddenly it's a story about saving her. Everything got romantized. = Obviously, the romantization of grief and suffering was very ingrained in Victor's whole family. It probably came from Alphonse and his ancestors too.
- It's also said in 1818 ver that alphonse really loved his sister (the mother of elizabeth) and she abandoned him (cut him off).
"for some years my father had very little communication with her."
= Now remember alphonse's later words and lessons about how cutting your family off means you are neglecting yourself and your other duties etc.
So yeak, Idk I just love how Frankenstein is also about generational trauma and people who didn't process their feelings ruining their kids' lifes. (and don't get me started on Caroline.)

if you are a blank blog/no pfp just a friendly reminder i Will reach out to let you know how this site works because im assuming youre new and dont understand the culture and letting yall know seems best but heres some main takeaways:
Tumblr is anonymous. please please please dont use your name as or in your url. its a really important aspect of this site to maintain that anonymity and most of the time its an easy way to identify porn bots- they use peoples names. if you have your name in your url its an easy way to get blocked.
your blog is your blog. you dont have to make a single ounce of content, but the point of it is to save the content you like for later, which is done through reblogging. reblogging makes a save that can only be deleted by you, even if the original poster deactivates or deletes it. this is a really cool feature! it means you’ll never lose stuff you like!
if you like to lurk, thats okay! tumblr likes dont actually do/mean anything though, and is not actually any sort of a real way to show the people making stuff that you like what theyre doing or support them. if you want there is a setting to make your blog private- it means people wont see anything but your username and your profile picture without a password
speaking of profile picture! if you do not have one people will think you are a bot. they will block you for being a bot. it doesnt matter what it is it could be the color gray just avoid using the tumblr default profile picture.
tags! tags are an easy way to add commentary or share anecdotes or ramble without interrupting the content of the post. people love these! they are widely supported, and usually can “pass peer review” as a way of saying that someone else thought what you said was funny/important enough to share in the main post, either by screenshot or copy pasting, and tagging the person who made them. usually, we do not/did not start the “prev tags” thing. it can have its uses, but nobody likes a hunt through prev tags. if its more that 2/3 people back, the culture here isnt to pissy about copy pasting, and if youre worried about credit, just add another tag with their name
🌟bonus round 🌟 tumblr is actively unmarketable and does not want our information to be sold or used. this means that you Should Not Use the algorithm, particularly, you should curate your dash and follow people. a large part of the point is chronological consumption, and that old posts recirculate indefinitely. take advantage of the benefits from the site, and understand that the nonsensical ads are because of the lack of information tumblr is collecting on us. they are protecting our privacy and our information. we want to make sure it continues that way. due to tumblr protections of us, and the way that it is following-based rather than algorithm-based, this also means you Do Not Need to censor anything. this includes heavy content, swear words, silly ridiculous threatening posts that are unhinged and unrealistic. censoring isn’t necessary here. like i said, take advantage of the benefits of being here. its good here.
thats all, i hope yall newbies enjoy tumblr! good luck!

Welcome to tumblr! Allow me to give you a little introductory guide, it can be a bit difficult to understand the site if you're used to ones like instagram, twitter and tiktok, its very different here!
Your dashboard (feed) is Not algorithm based like it is on other sites, you will only see the reblogs from the people you follow. On tumblr, you and the people you follow Are the algorithm, you control what you see on your dash! There are some algorithm based functions on here, though none of them are self-learning-AI based. The for you tab, unlike on tiktok, is not your main feed, the Following tab is. The for you tab is mostly posts from the blogs the people you follow reblog most from, as well as stuff from your explore page. So, the for you page isn't like tiktoks fyp. They're all based purely on what the people you follow are following, reblogging and liking, it's just allowing you some insight into their dashboards more or less!
The explore page, and all the other pages, won't infinitely update with new posts each time you refresh the page. If you look at your explore page now, and check back tomorrow, most of the same posts will still be there. Basically, tumblr isn't as fast paced as other apps, and won't cater to short attention spans like other apps will, which is great! It's good to slow down! If you want more action on your dash, follow more blogs!
You can find more blogs about topics you like using the search function of course, as with any social media site. The search function isnt the best, it's more or less impossible to find specific posts, but if its keyword or tag based searches you're good to go!
Liking posts does nothing for the creator of the post, likes dont equate anything, they have no "worth". Reblogging is what makes a difference on here, and it's the only thing that will let your followers see that post, though it seems you've understood this already, good job! Likes only serve a purpose in the "based on your likes" tab, which I haven't seen in a while, maybe its not a thing anymore, who knows! Other than that, likes are typically used by users for the sake of saving posts so you can find them later!
We generally dont add our own thoughts on posts as an addition on the post, we do that in the tags, so the person reblogging from you won't have to reblog your addition to the post as well. Sometimes we do add regular text to posts, but generally it's a bit frowned upon, you'll learn when and what to comment on, and when to use the tags! Don't think of the tags only as hashtags, the tags is your personal thought space, say whatever shit you want in there! all your completely irrelevant thoughts!
You can customise your desktop blog with different themes, if you go to raiaue.tumblr.com on desktop you'll get to the customisable desktop blog, have fun!
the queue! You can queue posts instead of reblogging them instantly, it's by no means necessary, but some people like to do it to keep their blogs active 24/7, but it really doesn't serve a purpose, it won't gain you more followers, but it will allow all your followers from different time zones to see you on their dash more consistently, but again, won't serve a purpose with follower count, which is something we really dont care about on tumblr, since we can't see other peoples follower counts! we're all equals on here, no verification checkmarks, no follower counts, lovely!
Have fun on here, dont bring the twitter drama, just follow and reblog things you like, make friends, go ham!
(and if you want a glimpse into tumblr history, follow @heritageposts, this site has a wild history, might be entertaining to see!)
OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS HELPS SO MUCH
