ougg. rewatching episode 13 and the establishing shot w/ the hawk got me thinking abt 2B bird imagery again.. only seeing it this way now but i really like how they take advantage of multiple angles on the bird connection by associating her w/ different types of birds. like first there's the white birds that show up in the prologue + the first ed for which i think the clearest association is freedom. in both instances shes watching them fly away in a way that draws attention to how shes metaphorically caged in comparison. but they also go at it from an angle specifically connected to her executioner status by associating her with birds of prey, of course the hawk but also my personal favorite interpretation which is maybe more speculative but hinges on the black feathers on her sleeves resembling a crow which is most commonly interpreted as an omen of death. REALLY obsessed with the idea of this aspect of her design serving as a sort of doom signal for whoever shes assigned.
