#the Carlo Gozzi version of the story (my forst encounter with it) has Calaf fall in love with her portrait#and Turandot only revealing her actual face to throw him off when he solves the first two riddles#but i think this is even better#him going from cursing her to falling obsessively in love with her in seconds#while she executes a man the whole city was begging her to spare right in front if him.A man who tried to marry her like Calaf wants to.#really drives home how tragically irresistible Turandot is#(tragically both for her and for the men who are obsessed with her)#thanjs for listening to my TED talk#anyway this is my favourite lart of the opera#Turandot#opera#giacomo puccini#music#Spotify
