Why do St4ncy shippers think it’s such a checkmate to be like “how can you criticize Steve’s six-nuggets dream when Jonathan also envisions a future where he and Nancy have kids?” I don’t think you have to have any shipping opinions at all to differentiate between Steve being like “it would be awesome to have a lot of kids and engage in middle-class leisure activities with you in the far-off future” (no questions about her dreams or discussion of practicalities included) and Jonathan being like “it would be very very bad if Nancy gave up her dreams and resented me and we got divorced and our kids hated me so I should probably break up with her.”

They are both out of touch with reality (Steve because he’s aimless and fixating on Nancy as a solution, Jonathan because he’s in the midst of a child-of-divorce anxiety spiral) and both are creating problems for any real or potential relationship with Nancy, but those problems are very different. And, while Jonathan’s problems are super-complicated and difficult, Steve’s are a lot more fundamental.
