Setting up a business isn’t an easy task and looking for an office to let it thrive is even more difficult. Buying an office space for rent and furnishing it is a time consuming and expensive task. Thankfully, entrepreneurs and business owners have fully furnished offices as an option to grow their businesses. Fully furnished offices provide a productive environment and flexible working conditions thus, offering features that appeal to the younger workforce. This is one of the most important reasons why young entrepreneurs in cosmopolitan cities like Colombo are opting for furnished office spaces.
Colombo is a gateway to Sri Lanka and is the largest city of the beautiful island. Home to a cluster of high-rise buildings and hotels, Colombo sits in a very powerful position as the administrative and economic centre of Sri Lanka. Being the economic centre, a number of furnished offices for rent in Colombo are available. Here are a few reasons why new businesses are opting for furnished office space in Colombo:
Affordable: Due to lack of funds, start-ups or small-scale enterprises seek measures that can save their expenses and help in boosting productivity. Buying an office space for rent and installing the required furniture and equipment needs a huge amount of money. Here is when fully furnished offices come into play. Ready to use     office space in Colombo allows you to rent a space that is already equipped with comfortable furniture, office equipment, and a creative environment to let you enhance your productivity. Moreover, they are devoid of any hidden costs thus, helping you save money.
Enhanced     flexibility: Opting for a furnished office space for rent in Colombo eliminates the time required for setting up an office and moving in. Furthermore, they are suitable for all kinds of businesses and offer flexible working solutions that fit their needs. Therefore, furnished offices serve as the perfect option for businesses looking to scale up or down as per their requirements.
Constant     professional presence: Luxury     offices for rent in Colombo provide a working space equipped with modern design, world-class technology, and exceptional amenities. All these along with a prestigious business address help companies in maintaining a constant professional presence. In addition to this, having a distinguished physical address for your company instils a sense of trust among your clients and customers thus, enhancing the credibility of your business.
Finest business concierge services: The furnished     office spaces in Colombo offer a full-service administration to empower businesses. They offer invaluable knowledge and support for seamless flow of operations. These in-house experts perform all the necessary tasks to let you focus on uplifting your business without any distractions. These include helping your team to settle in, ensuring the fulfilment of your business needs, and minimising disruptions through uninterrupted IT services, remote administrative assistance, and relocation expertise.
No hassles: In order to accommodate new employees, it is very likely that an entrepreneur will need to upgrade his/her office space. Doing this in a traditional office space can be tricky and expensive. Whereas, in the case of furnished office spaces, one can easily move to larger suites on the expansion of the team without the hassle of moving in and furnishing all over again.
With every passing year, businesses are changing where and how they manage their operations. This not only creates an urgent need for a flexible workforce but also a flexible infrastructure. Hence, overall, we can say that the increase in demand for furnished office space among new businesses is seen to be fundamentally driven by the growing need for a productive environment offering flexible solutions to the rapidly changing business culture across the globe. Hence, a number of newly- emerging companies in countries like Colombo are rapidly adopting the concept of fully furnished offices over conventional offices to elevate their businesses.

How Being Based in a Coworking Space Can Enrich Your Work Experience
Let’s face it: the advancements in technology have led to many changes considering work experience, networking, and the workplace itself. Open offices, smart offices, and co-working spaces are on the rise in modern-day businesses, especially due to the fact many companies hire experts who work remotely. When it comes to fulfilling the requirements of the workspace, many companies have adopted a new approach to doing business, and have started focusing on the overall happiness of their employees. This includes different aspects such as engagement, wellness, and fruitful work experience.
Companies in Sri Lanka have embraced coworking as a global trend in the business world. Coworking space is a buzzing world that has thrust the trend of opening coworking spaces on a daily basis. Startups in Sri Lanka, tech-enthusiasts, early-on entrepreneurs, and freelancers are the ones who are carrying the fashion across the island. What is so appealing to be bonded geographically when you can work remotely, from anywhere on the planet? People who propose coworking space as the only right way of doing business are using the sharing of knowledge, inspiration, and working with different people as the reason why people are so amazed at it.
Sri Lankan coworking space is still in diapers, but the growth of the coworking space number is steadily increasing. If you are on the pursuit of an innovation working space where you can work with your team, and networking with startups in Sri Lanka, there are a couple of locations you should check out before the decision. If you are still not sure whether this way of working is the right thing for you, new studies show that values that are nourished in coworking offices influence team performance by more than 50%. Business owners are aware of the fact that the purpose of the workload has changed dramatically over the last decade. To stay ahead of their competitors and to follow the latest trends in the industry, they have to adapt their business strategies to the new business environment. Rapid technological progress has changed when and where we work, and companies have to be ready for that.
What is it about the coworking space that motivates workers to work more? For starters, we have already mentioned building strong professional relations with other professionals, but there are many more benefits that enable employees to flourish.
 #1 Flexible work environment
Coworking space allows people to be flexible about how, where and when the work will be done, and make them more adaptable to given circumstances. When you are not bothered by the working conditions, you are more focused on the quality of the task, and your productivity suddenly rises. Startups in Sri Lanka are becoming more eager to allow their workforce to experience the inspiring flow in the coworking offices. When you are not accountable to anyone, you grow the internal responsibility for your work and the results that follow your work productivity, so it is not a wonder why so many people ditch the traditional way of doing business and turn to coworking space as a solution to the better business results.
 #2 Less office expenditure
For startups in Sri Lanka among the most important issues is how to establish a modern and furnished office without spending a fortune. With coworking space, you get a fully-equipped place without big investment and expenses that usually follow setting up an office. That means you can focus on growing your business and motivating your employees instead. Young entrepreneurs are cautious at the beginning of their journey when every dollar counts so having a solution for the location where you can operate your business without going into a negative balance on your account is a positive thing.
 #3 Networking with like-minded people
Working in a traditional office means drinking coffee with your colleagues who encounter the same issues in the workplace as you do, and in most cases, you play the same role and end up in the same conversations. Coworking space fosters relationships with people who excel in some areas where you do not have that much knowledge or experience. It can help you to find new colleagues, business investors, or a quality source of help. There are many top coworking spaces in Colombo where you can reach your potential and achieve the growth of your business in a short period of time.
 #4 Gaining a new perspective
Traditional offices tend to be cold, closed and more isolated. Open working space means you are open to a lot of different businesses and organizational climates. Not only in a social or networking aspect but also close to the problems other businesses are struggling with and learning their business strategies and how they find solutions to their problems. This can be beneficial for your professional and personal life, gaining a new philosophy to follow.
#5 Boost of the work productivity
Coworking space is specifically designed to facilitate the organizational processes and enrich the work experience by aiming at the productivity and efficiency of a team. It offers a clear structure of one’s working day, providing special places for eating, networking, working, brainstorming or relaxing. Across coworking spaces, in Columbo, you can find optimal working environments that blend a wide range of working styles to meet every need and preference.
If you want to become a part of the growing startup community in Sri Lanka that is discovering the potential of coworking space, join hatch and you will be immersed in the pool of innovative and energetic community who will help you to achieve your dreams. Contact us for more information about space, utilities, and pricing, and start working in the right direction. New Post has been published on https://www.jg-house.com/2020/11/11/eternal-goodbye-rome/
Eternal Goodbye: Rome
Esby looked away just for a moment from the streams of cars with the image of her face appearing before his eyes. The digital watch strapped to his left wrist showed 7:15, its round face illuminated by the last rays of the setting sun. He had 30 minutes. The road to Fiumicino, the international airport on the outskirts of Rome, would be jammed.
The garbage on the streets was piling up. He had heard about the chaos of Rome, in fact, before he had moved to the Italian capital three months earlier. His colleagues in other European capitals were fond of using a different nickname for the Eternal City: Cairo North. But now the disorder was overwhelming.
Esby fought the impulse to kneel on the sidewalk next to a clump of weeds and an empty bottle of San Pellegrino mineral water at the edge of Via Cristoforo Colombo. It was the busiest thoroughfare in Rome. He could feel the presence of the Roman drivers, only inches away from him, as they navigated their motorbikes or slightly larger cars along the streams of traffic flowing in both directions as far as the eye could see.
None of it made sense to Esby. He laughed, looking up at the sky. Life now with Julienne was different than it had been. He would see her again soon, although how soon depended on when he arrived at the airport. Only fifteen minutes before, Esby barely could remain calm in his chair as he sat at his desk at the back of the editorial team’s office holding the receiver of the telephone to his ear and listened to the dispatcher speaking in local dialect.
“A taxi,” she had said, “will arrive for you in twenty minutes.”
All week Esby had been waiting to hear those words. He was, without a doubt, excited to see Julienne. To his colleagues and also to himself, he freely admitted the fact. But at the same time, he was feeling, he realized, increasingly anxious. Rome, in many respects, was a beautiful city, despite the growing mounds of garbage. However, most of all, it was stressful. Romans, often aggressively and dramatically, seemed to pursue conflict and tension; he, in contrast, required a certain amount of peace and harmony. In Rome, he barely could get by on his own. How could he look after Julienne, prone to self-doubt and insecurity?
The sky above the highway still displayed its lighter shades of blue. To the east it revealed darker shades of purple and even streaks of black to signal the approaching night. As Esby’s eyes moved, shifting his view from the blue expanse above back down to the grey streets and buildings of the city below, his glance fell on a small green sports utility vehicle.
People on the Street
Esby watched as the vehicle detached itself from a stream of cars and pulled to the side of the wide boulevard. It came to a halt directly in front of him. Esby recognized the driver. Carlo Medrone, a production manager in Esby’s company, sat behind the steering wheel of the compact SUV. The middle-aged corpulent man rolled down the window on the passenger door.
“Ciao, bello!” Carlo shouted.
The words resonated in Esby’s head. Loud, aggressive, familiar. Esby bent his torso slightly from its upright position to make eye contact with the driver, but instead his gaze was captured and directed downward to the floor in front of the passenger seat. In the next moment, Esby’s glance shifted back upward again, detaching itself from the images of naked women in lewd poses on plain covers of various magazines on the floor and, then, fastening on Carlo’s face. As quickly as Esby had felt in the previous moment a wave of embarrassment, he now felt a sudden and genuine confusion.
The Roman’s face was impassive, almost innocent.
Then Esby recalled that Carlo’s long-time boss, a Frenchman named Daniel, had published a series of pornographic titles for many years, although he had attempted to hide their existence from Esby and his compatriots who now worked for Daniel’s newest magazines, including the latest one about buying and selling art, where Esby was managing editor.
When Esby had moved to Europe 15 months earlier to take on the role of editor, he had struggled to adapt to a new life, both inside and outside the office of the young magazine. Then, a year after he had arrived in Brussels, where he and the rest of the editorial staff initially were based, he was forced to pick up his possessions and move to Rome, where his bosses in New York and their close friend and Roman partner, Daniel, had decided to take advantage of lower labor costs and publish all magazines.
“Where are you going?” Carlo asked, speaking in his native Romanesco with its long, indecent drawl. “Do you want a ride?” Esby felt a different emotion then. Was it disdain?
“I’m going to the airport, capo,” Esby replied, pronouncing carefully the words in the Italian he had been learning to speak, although he had studied the language at the university in California for three years because of some vague, romantic notions he had long since buried along with other, painful memories. Esby doubted the older man would want to drive him such a long distance. Fiumicino occupied a grassy plot of land 25 kilometers west of Rome.
Young Woman
“Well, we’ll see each other tomorrow at the office. Ciao,” Carlo said.
Carlo shifted his corpulence in the seat, looked over his left shoulder, and waited a few moments. Then he shot his car forward. The car moved away from Esby, and he watched as it attached itself once again to the stream of cars flowing, he thought, with more urgency among the dim shadows of evening.
Esby knew, at that moment, his life would never be the same, no matter the direction of his relationship with Julienne or the success or failure of his magazine, which currently was headed toward bankruptcy. He knew he had to keep trying out new ideas and new projects. He couldn’t go back to where he started. In California, there was nothing for him, except demons he was trying to escape.
  ***
“Ha. Ha. Ha.”
Then came a shriek. It happened again.
Esby opened his eyes. Laughter, he realized, had come from the corridor just beyond the door to his hotel room. He was awake now. A third shriek of laughter reached his ears, this time accompanied by the sound of rapid, but not heavy, footsteps on a carpeted floor. It was a small girl, or perhaps boy, Esby decided, running down the corridor. Then he heard the sound of a door opening and closing.
“The child is inside a room now,” he said to himself. He pictured the doors, all painted a dark red, to at least ten rooms along the light brown-carpeted hallway on the 5th floor of Hotel La Rovere, just off Piazza della Rovere.
A silence ensued. Esby looked to his right at the blue numbers of the digital readout covering the face of the clock on the nightstand.
“It’s almost 10:15,” he whispered. But the morning, the first part of Saturday, the day before Easter, had passed by entirely.
“Was breakfast still being served in the restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel? If the dining room downstairs was closed, could he find a small market or café nearby where he could order a quick meal?”
“There isn’t much time,” he whispered again.
Diners
Esby raised his torso a foot off the bed, propping himself on his elbows, and looked to his left. He saw the body lying next to him, completely enclosed in a white sheet and black comforter with red stitching. Julienne, still asleep, lay on her side facing the window, the window now hidden behind a thick, green curtain overlooking the narrow, cobblestone street below. A narrow band of sunlight breaking through the point at which the two parts of the curtain came together lit up a corresponding patch of brown carpet lying between the window and Julienne’s side of the bed.
Esby stood up from his side of the bed and moved toward the bathroom next to the front door.
The moment Esby closed the door of the bathroom and turned on the light above the blue-tiled sink, scenes from the previous night came flooding back.
The airport, on a Friday night leading into Easter week-end, barely could contain the surging crowds, large numbers of travelers who either were departing for other cities or were arriving in Rome. Small units, meanwhile, of traditional, brightly costumed carabinieri or more solemn, black-uniformed military personnel roamed the congested spaces of the terminal, moving their eyes from side to side.
Esby recalled rushing through the terminal, thinking he was one hour late and expecting to find Julienne sitting on a hard, metal seat, fuming, ready to voice displeasure. But, then, he recalled, after carving a path through the crowds and reaching a designated waiting room, he had lingered for one-and-a-half hours, pacing back and forth on the hard linoleum floor until seeing at last on a monitor above his head an update indicating Julienne’s plane—Virgin Express flight 2717—had landed in Rome.
The plane had departed Brussels much later than planned. Why hadn’t Julienne called? Maybe the plane been trapped on the tarmac, unexpectedly, and Julienne couldn’t call because her cell phone didn’t have a signal inside the cabin? Maybe she had forgotten her phone?
It was almost midnight, Esby remembered, when Julienne appeared in the baggage-claim area, walking quickly and assuredly on five-inch heels pulling a small suitcase on wheels. He had wanted to take her back to the city center and check into the hotel room he had reserved. But, immediately, he realized he couldn’t.
“Let’s go find a restaurant and eat some pizza or pasta,” Julienne said upon approaching him, flashing her trademark smile and kissing him. Then she transferred the handle of her suitcase from her left hand to his right hand. “I’m hungry,” she added.
Julienne never explained either the reason the plane arrived in Rome late or why she had not called. Her phone, he noticed, was inside her purse. It was another mysterious misconnection. Something always seemed to go wrong, or she changed plans with no explanation.

First I Have to Put My Face On
Foothold, Polignano a Mare
June 10th – July 30th 2018
Exhibiting artists: Mariantoinetta Bagliato, Julia Colavita, Nicole Colombo, Jakub Choma, Adam Cruces, Barbora Fastrová, Monia Ben Hamouda, Pinar Marul, Valinia Svoronou, Sung Tieu
Curated by Christina Gigliotti
Organized and supported by Like a Little Disaster
The exhibition First I Have to Put My Face On originates from an interest in beauty labor and emotional labor, and how the combined efforts of this labor result in how many of us create our identities and present ourselves to society at large. The beauty industry is ubiquitous, and yet beauty labor remains largely invisible or purposefully hidden from those who do not partake in it, the age old phrase being “Don’t ever let them see you applying your lipstick.”1 Where does beauty labor take place? In bedrooms, bathrooms, salons, doctor’s offices – mainly behind closed doors. This labor is private, and shared solely with trusted professionals or friends – the act of “getting ready before going out” is done together only with the most intimate of companions. “Putting on one’s face” also relates to the self-disciplinary tactics and emotional control that women must use in public, in romantic relationships, and in the workplace in order to be respected or treated as equally as their male counterparts. The artworks in First I Have to Put My Face On explore the human body in relation to the products and procedures included in performing beauty labor, as well as refer to the spaces where these activities occur, and the risks and repercussions of extreme skin/body cosmetic augmentation.
It is challenging to take a side on the topic of beauty labor, and whether or not to participate, embrace, condemn, or attempt to escape it. On one hand, the amount of time, money, and emotions spent for self-presentation can feel utterly oppressive, as feelings about one’s outward image affect moods and influence opinions of self-worth. One can notice the surge in empathetic internet memes about this topic – one in particular includes various images of female celebrities who allegedly cosmetically altered themselves with an overlaying text that reads “Don’t worry – you’re not ugly, you’re just poor.” The sentiment that these celebrities bought their beauty and that the only underlying difference between you and them is monetary is supposed to be comforting. On the other hand, presenting oneself in a way that one chooses can be liberating and equally as confidence boosting – one can’t help but feel empowered by watching Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty make-up tutorials for example.
Just now I took an elongated break from this text to scowl at an aggressive cystic pimple on my chin and work out the different strategies on how to wipe out every trace of its existence before the opening of this exhibition.
Whether or not this physical self expression is a result of conditioning by societal norms and fashion and beauty advertisements is difficult to say, as one can find themselves in a trap. Those who appear to wear too much makeup or show signs of body alterations may suffer the same negative reactions from peers as those who don’t attempt to change their appearance at all. There is a pressure to appear beautiful yet equally “natural” and conceal all efforts it took to get that way. Thus, First I Have to Put My Face On is as much a critique as an exposure and acknowledgement of beauty labor in its many forms.
Christina Gigliotti
1 My grandmother, as well as classic Hollywood films such as A Foreign Affair starring Marlene Dietrich, in a scene where her character publicly mocks another woman for applying her lipstick unskillfully, thus completely humiliating her.

Milan Restarts on a Slow, Cautious Note – WWD
https://ift.tt/2TjQCtz
MILAN — This was a soft reopening for Milan — forget crowded streets and tons of shoppers.
With the lockdown considerably easing in Italy, stores, bars and restaurants finally got the green light to reopen their activities on Monday. But in Milan, while the traffic in the streets significantly increased, the amount of people circulating in the central shopping areas was still quite limited.
A city deeply hit by the coronavirus emergency, Milan is slowly and cautiously returning to normal, or better said, a new normal that means the use of face masks and hand sanitizers, the respect of social distancing and temperature checks in most of the stores.
With most employees of companies that have offices in the center still working from home and in a city empty of tourists, on Monday morning the streets around the Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II arcade, as well as the Golden Triangle luxury shopping district, were busier with couriers and cleaning crews than actual shoppers. And while a large percentage of luxury brand flagships were open, high-end cafés, including storied meeting points such as Cova and Sant Ambroeus, as well as hip bakery shop Marchesi, were still shut.

While locals seemed to be more focused on affordable purchases, especially at Zara and Nike shops on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, where Italian department store Rinascente also opened its doors with an efficient entry control system, the few shoppers approaching luxury flagships were mainly Asian. Unfortunately, none of them was able to give comments in Italian or English.
“I bought three tank tops, very basic, since money doesn’t go very far these days…it was just to scratch an itch,” said Giorgia Maestri, who made her first post-lockdown in-store purchase at the Zara flagship on Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Asked about the experience and the safety measures in the store, she felt positive. “They give you gloves, there is hand-sanitizing gel everywhere. However, there are not many people in the stores now; we will see what’s going to happen when they get crowded,” she added.
Encouraged by discounts of between 10 and 20 percent, Stefano Mori and two friends bought 10 pairs of sneakers at the Nike store on the same street, while in a very quite Galleria Vittorio Emanuele two women living in the area were checking out the windows of the Tod’s store.
“It’s the first time we’ve really gone out to check the stores,” said Cornelia Bianchi. “Even if we are not sure about what to buy due to the situation.” While her friend Laura Rossi said she was in the mood for a new pair of sandals, Bianchi revealed that books are still the priority for her. “We are very cautious going out, I think we will still spend a lot of time at home,” she said.
The tiny, charming streets of the Brera and Garibaldi area seemed a bit more vivacious, with people having espressos seated at the outdoor tables of coffee bars.

“We are feeling the warmth of the neighborhood, people are coming to say hello and wish us good luck,” said Laura Poretti, the owner of the Milaura luxury multibrand fashion store, which reopened on Monday. “The past two months have been really hard, we did our best to keep our consumers engaged through the web site and the social media platforms. Me and my team are so happy to be back at the store. We really missed it. I’m aware that the restart might be slow, but I feel positive and we already welcomed some clients today and they actually shopped.”
As many retailers, Poretti had to rethink the store space to guarantee distance for customers, who will also have the chance to book private shopping sessions in a dedicated area of the store. In addition, Poretti created customized face masks and hand-sanitizers for those making purchases. “I think Milaura is ready to face this new phase. We can’t wait to show our consumers the spring collections, which have been in the warehouse for too long. It’s not an easy moment for entrepreneurs, but we can make it…with passion and dedication.”

Those who haven’t been able to go back to business on Monday are peddlers, which protested in front of Milan’s city hall, lamenting a two-month stop of activities and zero information. “They have to tell us what to do, when we can restart, we need to go back to work, also because the government has totally forgotten us, not giving us any financial help,” said one of the 200 protesters, Liviana Colaianni, who sells olives and other delicatessens at local outdoor markets. Following the protest, the city municipality promised peddlers they will work on a plan to reopen all the outdoor markets next Monday.

https://michaelwoodband.com/4412/20-interesting-hammock-floor-ideas/
20 Interesting Hammock Floor Ideas
When we talk about relaxation and beach we often think about lounging on a hammock, sipping Piña Colada with our sunglasses on. The hammock has always been associated with vacation, relaxation and being laid-back.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you have a hammock all year round ready for the taking anytime in your home?
We are all aware of indoor hammocks that are readily available in the market in which all you need to do is to have skills in assembling it together and voila! An instant vacation in your home. However nice and easy these beautiful indoor hammocks are, it is not the one I am featuring today. I am going to talk about a more innovative and practical way of relaxation.
Are you getting curious now? You better be!
I am talking about hammock floors that are taking over the trend in most modern offices and homes. Seriously, I was dumbfounded when I first heard about it. This clever idea would blow your mind if it hasn’t yet. It uses unused space and turns it into a relaxation haven.
You and your kids could enjoy the whimsical touch and edgy look that promotes fun time and laid-back vibe where you could simply take a nap, read and just chill. In most offices with this kind of interior, it creates an inviting environment where employees could hangout, lounge and relax while at work.
So let’s get to it by checking these 20 Hammock Floor Ideas I gathered for you. Take the chance to get an inspiration for your own home or office and maybe, just maybe, it will turn your space around and give you that fun yet tranquil vibe.
1. Sinèrgics – The Social Project
Colombo and Serboli Architecture
Having a limited to none space for a lounge, the architects opted to have it light and suspended instead of occupying part of the kitchen space. A giant hammock was added as a net mezzanine reachable through a perforated metal stairs ramp. It serves as a relaxation area for the workers.
2. Tower House
Austin Maynard Architects
This is a study with a wholly vertical space. It has a bookshelf that runs from floor to ceiling. Hanging within this tall space is a rad hammock-like net where the children can read and contemplate with a view of the street and backyard. Now, that is fun while learning!
3. Two Storey House
Ruetemple Studio
This hammock floor is neat and is a good touch for those who love modern minimalist interiors with unique style.
4. Jerry House
Onion
Create a one of a kind play area for kids and adults alike with hammock floors. It could save up some space and would definitely give you the fun, modern, edgy look and vibe.
5. Townhouse B14
XTH – Berlin
This townhouse features doors that open like drawbridges, sloping wooden flaps that function as slides from one level to another and hammock floor and nets to create a fun and safe play area for the children.
6. Skinny SCAR
Gwendolyn Huisman and Marijn Boterman
Create a unique and striking accent to your space with this amazing concept. Aside from making your small space look bigger and open, having one is just so crazy cool!
7. 227 Flat
OODA
I love how this hammock seat suspended from a metal structure over the staircase creates a bizarre look and adds a playful vibe to the entire space.
8. Apartment in Korolev
Ruetemple Studio
This well-lit home was made more exciting with an addition of a spacious recreation area with hammocks above the stairs. It brings a surprising punch that is both stylish and functional.
9. Baan Moom
Integrated Field Co., Ltd.
I love the masculine touch of black and wood on this interiors! A fishnet used in the ocean liner was selected as a hammock in the double space between working room (2nd floor) and the bedroom (3rd floor). Awesome!
10. Hammock Floor Net
France Trampoline
Take a cue from this photo. Look at how a suspended hammock floor creates an unconventional character to the whole space.
11. Architect’s Studio
Kevin Brown Architecture
Create an adventurous addition to your office space with a suspended hammock floor at your unused ceiling space. This could serve as a recreational area for your kids or yourself when you want to squeeze in a quick nap or just chill.

How Office Amenities Boost Team Productivity
Workspace amenities and workplace culture play a significant role in the output of an organization. As employees are the strength of an organization, their physical and mental well-being is crucial as it boosts productivity. Thus, adequate advanced amenities along with a good work culture are two essential criteria for creating a productive environment and determining employee loyalty. Our business centre in Colombo provides all the necessary amenities.
Let us have a look at how office amenities can improve team productivity.
Tumblr media
Introducing Natural Elements Influences Work Output Positively
Studies reveal that natural light, warm temperature, and a certain level of ambient noise play a key role in improving employee engagement. Employees' productivity increases in workspaces that bring in natural elements. Companies must aim to maximize natural lighting and adjustable lighting systems as it lowers eye strain, headache, and stress. Adding greenery to workspaces is also an effective step as it cleans the air and provides a calm atmosphere.
Encourage Technological Advancement
Today, an office without advanced equipment that performs different functions is unimaginable. Our office space on rent in Colombo has automated board rooms with seamless wi-fi connectivity, state-of-the-art infrastructure, expertly crafted IT solutions, high-performance audio/visual technology, and more.
We have also installed digital boards and flip charts in our office for carrying out discussions, training sessions, and to conduct meetings more efficiently. All such amenities in an office boost employee productivity.
On-Site Fitness Centers
On-site fitness centres are one of the most effective ways to retain old employees and attract new talent. Maintaining fitness boosts employee morale and lowers the number of absentees.
Various well-reputed companies such as Unilever have developed a “Wellbeing Zone” within their office where employees can opt for different fitness activities that include yoga, massage, and stretching. Besides, many companies have also introduced a sleeping zone known as "nap pods" for employees to recharge and revitalize.
Companies must invest in employees’ health and mental wellness as it plays a key role in influencing their work rate. From installing fitness equipment to creating a dedicated area or a space that encourages mental wellbeing is something that all companies should ideally offer their employees.
Create a Collaborative Environment
Every company must try to create a collaborative environment inside the office where the employees get the opportunity to meet new people. We organize various networking events in our coworking office space in Colombo where one can collaborate with industry leaders, view product exhibitions that support a cause, and several other activities.

Commercial uses of drones that is changing the industry
Tumblr media
Drones are an emerging innovation like android smartphones, electronic products, computing accessories and android tablets. Just over the most recent couple of years, have advertisers possessed the capacity to exploit the open doors offered by rambles in publicizing products and brands? Indeed, even in such a short measure of time, advertisers have possessed the capacity to make sense of various approaches to utilize rambles in their promoting methodologies. Some of these ways, while still in their earliest stages, demonstrate a gigantic potential for the fate of promoting.
How Are Drones Being Used In The Marketing Industry?
1.      Drones as a physical medium:
They are utilized to physically achieve purchasers in new and creative ways like zedashop. Interruption potential is medium.
·         Brands – and even little nearby organizations – are utilizing automatons to physically reach and amaze their clients. Drones can be just, the new physical medium to promote an item or a brand to people in general. In 2013, a couple of restaurants, for example, the London-based Yo-Sushi, with its flying plate, tried different things with the drones to serve their clients with food. In 2014, the primary employments of drones as flying billboards were seen.
·         The publicizing organization Hungry Boys propelled a drone advertising effort for the noodle shop chain Wokker. They utilized drones to convey little fliers past the windows of Moscow office structures, advancing the shop's lunch  deals just before noon. The organization detailed an expansion of 40% in the requests at Wokker eateries in the region.
A couple of months after the fact in Camisaria Colombo, Brazil a well-known Brazilian, men's shirt store, flew a few automatons conveying headless mannequins before the administrators working in the workplaces of Sao Paulo's business region, Vila Olimpia.
2.      Drones as actors or on-screens tools:
They are utilized by advertisers in video plugs as astounding electronic products and networking products bringing the "stunning" factor. Interruption potential is low. At the absolute starting point of their broom in the business and buyer advertise, rambles were seen as abnormal flying items – despite everything they are for the overall population.
·         Advertisers exploited the oddity of automatons, utilizing them as the principle amaze factor in video plugs.
 ·         As it were, Amazon was among the first of the enormous brands to utilize rambles in ads, when they propelled a 2013 video to make a buzz around their still-to-come Prime Air benefit. This progressive administration would enable Amazon to convey bundles "in 30 minutes or less utilizing unmanned flying vehicles"
 3.      Drones as videographer devices:
They are utilized as a part of plugs to deliver imaginative video substance and offer new viewpoints. Interruption potential is high.
·         From the earliest starting point, cinematography and videography have risen as the epicenter of automaton use inside the advertising field.
·         Advertisers soon understood the drones were and are, not only a question ready to astonish, yet rather an effective device, ready to check the expenses of customary ethereal taping, and make awesome and creative video content.
The likelihood to get ease, the inventive substance has been a critical factor driving advertiser's selection of automatons in the video promoting space.
 4.      Drones as a center point of developing technologies:
Incorporated with different advances, (for example, VR/AR*, cloud, IoT and so forth), rambles are opening the way too troublesome approaches to assembling information and market to target groups of onlookers.

The making of Masoud Shojaee’s empire
Masoud Shojaee
From the fall issue: It may be hard to believe that the man who today oversees a vast empire of real estate development in South Florida, who relishes the riches of his success — driving a Rolls-Royce Wraith and sporting the latest fashions from Bijan and Dior — was once a frightened 18-year-old, completely alone in the U.S. as a freshman at the University of Miami, in exile from his home country, where a revolution was just beginning.
But Masoud Shojaee was once that kid. Supplied with seed money from his father, who was a developer in their native Iran, Shojaee began his career in building well before he turned 30. Today his firm, Shoma Group, develops apartment buildings, townhomes, office buildings and retail space in addition to the 10,000 single-family homes it has built since he founded the company in 1988.
The 57-year-old founder’s joie de vivre is as notable as the scale of his firm’s productivity. While friends note his generous character and sartorial sensibility, they’re just as apt to muse about his determination and focus in business.
The Coral Gables resident told The Real Deal that his goal is to bring new design concepts to the region — like choosing a minimalistic style rather than Mediterranean architecture at the nearly completed Oasis at Park Square in Doral, where each unit features a private rooftop with a Jacuzzi, barbecue area, bathroom and covered terrace.
“If you create something like this, you are separating yourself from competitors,” he said.
Shojaee’s ability to adapt to the changing conditions of the market is among the keys to his success. He started his career with a focus on single-family homes because they offer more flexibility: If the market takes a turn, you can switch plans.
“I am generally conservative, but I am a risk taker with a very calculated risk,” he said. “I would not just close my eyes and throw a dart. I have to study everything… .I play offensive and defensive — it all depends on the timing and the market.”
And as conditions have shifted toward the end of this cycle, Shojaee, too, is changing tack by shifting to multifamily projects.
“It is great cash flow and you have no risk, and you sell the building when it’s stabilized, or you decide to keep it, and two or three years from now, when the condo market is great, you do a condo conversion,” Shojaee said.
Although he has completed dozens of successful projects — as many as 10 at a time — Shojaee has also had his share of struggles and lawsuits. There was a failed hotel development plan in Las Vegas — a deal that collapsed in 2007 along with the economy.
And he is currently in the midst of litigation against Ugo Colombo, his partner on the planned Collection Residences. There’s also a suit against Colombo’s exotic-car dealership, the Collection, related to a $413,108 contract to purchase a Ferrari. On top of those, there’s the developer’s lengthy divorce that began when his wife, Maria Shojaee, filed in April 2015 after 29 years of marriage. Their former home, a Moroccan estate in Coral Estates, is on the market for $12.95 million.
Both Shojaee and Colombo declined to comment on the legal wranglings. Shoma still owns 50 percent of the property planned for the Collection Residences.
Andrew Hall, Shojaee’s friend and managing partner at Hall, Lamb, Hall & Leto, who represents him in the Collection Residences and Collection suits, said litigation is par for the course.
“Every major business person I have ever known has some degree of litigation associated with them, and it doesn’t mean they haven’t been successful,” Hall said.
Hall refers to his client as, “smart, knowledgeable, and he knows exactly what he needs.”
Shojaee’s aptitude for building is in his blood. Shojaee was born in Tehran, Iran, where his father had a large construction company that worked on government projects and employed 400 engineers. Amid strikes and brewing unrest, Shojaee left home in August 1978 to study electrical engineering at the University of Miami. Four months later, the Iranian revolution began. Businesses shut down. He couldn’t return to Iran.
His father retired and Shojaee’s life took a turn. He was on his own to continue his studies, earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering and taking additional classes, aiming for a Ph.D. in the subject.
He’d brought capital with him from Iran, and his family had sent more money to invest in the United States — an amount Shojaee will only peg as “millions” of dollars. While other friends of his with similar nest eggs wasted the money or partied it away, Shojaee used the funds to launch his career.
“His world changed on a dime, and he was literally on his own,” Hall said. “You receive a lot of money when you are 18 years old, that is a recipe for disaster: You are not competent to do much… .He took off and was terrifically successful. He went in the right direction.”
It was the mid-1980s, during the savings and loan crisis, “a good time to start looking for properties,” Shojaee recalled.
His first project, when he was 24, was a 48-home development in Kendall, called Kendall Best 2, in a joint venture with an experienced partner, Ernestino Abreu, principal of a family business, A & F Developer. The deal was that Shojaee would put up all the equity, and bank financing would provide the rest of the funds.
That led to a second, 58-lot project, Kendall Best 3, also with Abreu. After its successful sell-out, Shojaee decided he was ready to strike out on his own.
“I had my own way of envisioning [a project] and marketing that I was not able to do when I was doing the partnership,” Shojaee said. “I came up with better ideas and new ideas, to be more creative, to have a better design on the houses, to be a little bit innovative, to introduce new products.”
So in 1988, at 27, he started Shoma Development with 10 employees.
Abreu had partnered with the Somoza family of Nicaragua to develop hundreds of lots at Sunset Harbour, at Sunset Drive and 127th Avenue, and was ready to cash out. Shojaee bought Abreu’s share in the partnership for “a few million” dollars — a number he doesn’t recall exactly — taking on more than 200 lots to build single-family homes.
The next deal was even larger. Shojaee purchased 237 lots on Northwest 6th Street and 132nd Avenue for nearly $9 million, and developed homes on the property.
Then in 1992, he bid $6 million in a government auction of 700 lots and negotiated a deal to get 300 more, developing 1,000 single-family homes on 220 acres, called Tamiami 4 and Tamiami 5.
Shojaee’s strategy was to focus on the Hispanic market, advertising the homes on Spanish radio by broadcasting a live breakfast show from the sales office.
“That was one of the most successful projects I did,” he said. “Every [other] builder was selling maybe five units a month if they were doing really well, and I was selling somewhere from 20 to 30 homes a month in that location.” Prices ranged from $150,000 to $330,000 per home.
For Shoma’s single-family developments, Shojaee said the company handles 80 percent of the design, 100 percent of the construction and 90 percent of sales. That reduces costs, provides more control, and allows the company to establish relationships with buyers, he said.
Shoma Group recently renovated its headquarters at 201 Sevilla Avenue in Coral Gables.
During his earlier years, Shojaee said he was primarily focused on mid-market prices for single-family houses and townhomes, but he changed direction after the housing crisis of 2007, opting to build more luxury homes and townhomes priced at $1 million and up.
“We saw more of a trend that [buyers] are willing to pay more money and want a different product, so we changed to that,” he said.
But as Shojaee expanded into residential development in Broward and Palm Beach counties, in addition to office development, he needed a way to keep an eye on his many projects. When he renovated an office building in the Waterford office park, he used a helipad to board one of his two helicopters, in which he flies over and observes his projects across South Florida every day.
“It really helped me a lot,” he said. “I am a very hands-on person, and I like to overview and supervise every aspect of the business.”
For Steve Patterson, president and CEO of Related Development, Shojaee’s vigilance is one of the keys to his success. “He has an enormous sense of urgency with everything he does, and that is why he gets so much done,” Patterson said.
Shojaee even got into the aviation business in 2003, buying and selling planes and helicopters. In 2008, amid the downturn, he sold all the inventory for more than $150 million, he said. He reentered the aviation business two years ago, buying and selling more planes. He recently sold two Challengers and currently owns a Challenger 604 for his corporate use.
Shoma remains busy, working on six projects, planning four more and looking at single-family home construction in the Boca Raton area and Delray Beach. Most recently, the firm partnered with the Related Group on CityPlace Doral, a mixed-use project. Shoma is also finishing developing the homes at Oasis at Park Square at CityPlace.
In addition, in Coral Gables, Shoma has built custom homes and townhomes and recently renovated the company’s new headquarters at 201 Sevilla Avenue, where Shojaee works with his two daughters, Anelise, 31, and Lilibet, 28.
Shojaee is also planning to build 180 apartments and 50,000 square feet of retail space at 1515 San Remo Avenue, across from the Shops at Sunset Place.
In Miami Beach, Shoma is planning a luxury townhome project, Eleven on Lenox, with construction expected to begin in the first quarter of 2018. The three-story units will feature rooftop Jacuzzis and barbecues.
Parker of Douglas Elliman, which is now handling sales at Eleven on Lenox, calls Shojaee “a visionary.”
“There’s a certain flair to Masoud that is undeniable. It’s enjoyable. He’s respectful and firm and he knows what he wants and is relentless in getting it,” Parker said.
Shojaee also knows exactly what he wants from a sartorial perspective. He visits Bijan on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills every quarter and has suits designed with unusual twists like a yellow jacket with one black button and all the rest white buttons.
“I love to dress in something different,” he said. “It’s details that I pay attention to.”
Shojaee’s personal style may also translate into adding a scarf, or eschewing the custom of choosing a belt and shoes of the same color, and instead matching the jacket color with the belt, and opting for a different color in shoes.
A food and wine aficionado, he’s amassed a 2,500-bottle wine cellar, which includes about 20 bottles of Petrus Bordeaux.
As a frequent flyer, Shojaee also keeps an apartment in Montreal and makes regular visits to family in Paris.
“As much as he likes fancy things, he doesn’t define himself by it,” said Jay Parker, CEO of the Florida brokerage at Douglas Elliman. “We get a reputation in South Florida for being flashy. I don’t think he is all about flash. He likes finer things in life, but he is respectful and disciplined.”
Those who know Shojaee also call him a generous friend. Hall said Shojaee and he have a group of “highly accomplished” mutual friends, including high-profile attorney Scott Baena and others he declined to name. The group regularly gets together socially for dinner, each taking turns hosting. Hall said that when it was Shojaee’s turn last fall, he flew eight people on his private plane on an excursion to Austin, Texas, for a lunch and dinner of brisket and ribs.
As much as Shojaee relishes such leisure, he said he hopes to keep working for another 20 years.
“I hope I am healthy enough. I love to work,” he said. “I love to be in my office. I love creating things. I love what I do.”

Fashion Designer Thom Browne Curates Your Dream Office
Tumblr media

How to take the news that this year’s Design Miami/ Basel would feature fashion icon Thom Browne curating a “grid of important desks”? The concept, which is included in the Design at Large section of the fair, isn’t as left-field as it seems at first glance. Indeed, as Browne tells Artsy, the installation has its roots in a 2009 performative fashion show at Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence, Italy. That event presented smartly coutured workers laboring in a faux-office outfitted with “1950s desks,” aiming to conjure an “atmospheric sense of pent-up masculinity and menace,” according to the New York Times.
“I thought a similar concept would be interesting to explore at Design Miami/ Basel, considering their immense expertise and resources in the art and design realm,” Browne says. This time around, there will be a new performance element; Browne has enlisted female students from local art and architecture schools to help enact what he calls a “quite simple” choreography. As a companion piece, he will also exhibit a sculptural set—a slightly eerie landscape with trees and animals—that was used for a 2014 fashion show.
The rather narrow focus on desks (and attendant chairs and lamps) is a diversion from the previous iterations of Design at Large, a special component of the fair that was launched in 2014.
Tumblr media

That first edition was helmed by the then-creative director of Barneys New York, Dennis Freedman, who mingled art and design in equal measure, mixing a textile sculpture by Sheila Hicks with architecture by Jean Benjamin Maneval, among others. In 2015, the reigns were handed over to hotel powerhouse André Balazs, who thought on a large scale; his installation included a Jean Prouvé gas station and a VW Camper bus. And in 2016, Cabana magazine editor Martina Mondadori Sartogo used the Design at Large space to go equally splashy, with huge pieces by Ron Arad, Tom Price, and others.
Visitors to this year’s Design At Large installation might find Browne’s presentation to be slightly quieter and more contemplative, but not without its own drama. His desk extravaganza brings together specimens “chosen solely based on their design significance within the past century,” he says. “My choices were based less on personal tastes and more so on how each desk shaped and progressed a particular design idea.”
The final installation spotlights pieces designed by the likes of Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, and Pierre Jeanneret, provided by fair participants like Galerie Downtown, Galerie Patrick Seguin, Jousse Entreprise, and Galleri Feldt, among others.
Each desk is astutely paired with a complementary chair and lamp, a ready-to-go trio for any collector who’d simply want to import Browne’s vision into his or her home office. In one instance, a simple lamp by Joe Colombo illuminates a chair and desk by Charles and Ray Eames. Another tableaux might especially appeal to fans of Danish design, bringing together a 1953 desk by Finn Juhl with a Poul Kjærholm chair (1964) and Poul Henningsen lamp (1927).

Portrait of Thom Browne courtesy of Circe.
As a fashion designer, Browne is known for advancing certain key trends: slightly abbreviated pant legs (meant to show a bit of skin or sock), or reimaginings of the traditional suit (worn with shorts, and tie tucked directly into the waistband).
But when it comes to desks, Browne is all business. “I appreciate when a desk is designed in a utilitarian way,” he offers, “that all features should be useful to its owner. I’m typically most drawn to uncomplicated and purposeful design.” (What about that 21st-century healthy innovation, the standing desk, I wondered? “I’m not a big fan.”)
In keeping with that affection for the pared-down and useful, Browne notes that in his own office he favors a desk by the late French designer Jacques Adnet. “I think a desk can change you,” Browne says, “if you let it.”
