Tgamm S1 Ep 11-B ¨Ready, Set, Snow!¨ Episode analysis
Tumblr media
Molly wants to have a snow day with Scratch and Libby but they prefer to stay inside since it’s too cold outside. Molly tries to find a way to make them have the snow day she wants...
Episode writer: Sammie Crowley
Another snow theme episode, ¨Ready, Set, Snow!¨ focus on Molly as she tries many things to make her friends to go outside. It’s one episode with very low stakes (if you don’t count the cold weather) that manages to be really funny and address a major character flaw from Molly.
To start with, this episode has plenty of genuine funny moments with exaggerated expressions and slaptick. There are things like Molly and Darryl’s little dance at the start of the plot, the song sequence, Scratch messing with Molly so she doesn’t make him go outside and the overall characters interactions. This is not surprising considering this episode was written by Sammie Crowley, who is very good at coming up with great comedy timing.
One of the best parts about this story is that deconstructs Molly’s character and bring ups a flaw that she has that involves forcing people to do something they don’t want. She has these moments that becomes controlling and doesn’t consider what others would like to do. The way it explored here is excellent because the rest of the characters don’t pay attention to her and do their own thing. And they are never shown to be in the wrong, which is great. It’s funny to see Molly bringing up more people to make Libby and Scratch go outside only for said people to stay inside near the fireplace.
My interpretation is that Molly’s desire to be in control of what she and her friends should do to pass that time comes from her abandonment issues. People who suffer from these issues often develop a desire to be in control in a relationship. Considering Molly has lost many friends in the past, it’s not surprising to assume this behaviour may come from that. It isn’t something that gets hinted in the episode itself but it’s not hard to come to that conclusion.
As the time passes, Molly starts to show a wilder side of her. She comments on how the rest are ¨jealous¨ for the fun she is having outside. She gets bitter over the fact that she is playing alone in the snow and tries to cover it with fake positivity. The song sequence is fantastic in giving this characterization to Molly. It’s a very funny scene in which Molly gets all bad things happening to her because of how cold it is outside. There is dark humor in it since she loses part of her sanity as the song progresses. Ashly’s performance is comedy gold in this one. She makes Molly sound unwell at the same time it makes her come as really funny. This musical sequence has to be one of the my favourite from the show so far. It never fails to make me laugh.
Moving on from Molly, Scratch and Libby have a great chemistry in this episode as they come together to ignore Molly. Scratch takes every oppotunity he can to ¨troll¨ Molly when she tries to change their mind. They have a different type of relationship they have with Molly because they are both more introverted and reserved. What is more, it’s one of those occasions most main characters are seen hanging out together. It’s nice to see them all sitting near the fireplace while drinking coffee. Geoff even gets some moments too.
Scratch has a great moment when he looks for Molly and gaves her a lesson about enjoying having fun with your friends regardless of the activity (all while possessing a snowman of himself that Molly made). His (harsh) honesty comes useful in here, which leads to Molly to realize that she was acting very selfishly. The scene that follows is Molly apologizing to Libby and Scratch for not listening to them and that she shouldn’t have been so stubborn. All characters present give a hug to her, which is very sweet.
In all, ¨Ready, Set, Snow!¨ is a really funny episode in that Molly is forced to learn a lesson in the hard way. It’s also heartwarming seeing the main characters spending time together and relax. For an episode with very low stakes, it executes its premise very well.

SPOILERS FOR TGAMM Yes I know The ghost and Molly McGee isn’t the most popular out of the recent Disney shows (compared to toh, amp, svtfoe, or even gf) BUT I love talking about it.
When people talk about the character development most ppl talk about Scratch (yes I love his development and I cried over it) but I find Mollys development interesting as well. instead of getting better she just slowly lost her mind. Don’t know if it’s a bad thing I relate to her so much.
Tumblr media
Like in Ready, Set, Snow! Is a key example most of the episode was her losing her mind. She literally made a snow therapist and then laughed in its face. It’s it’s her fault and her stubbornness. She’s even like that in First Day Frights for a little bit she was panicking about her first impression needing to be perfect. And in The Don’t-Gooder she’s so determined to be seen as the best ‘do-gooder’ she’ll go to any length just to prove Andrea doesn’t deserve a award. Even Scratch said she’s being crazy. She breaks into her garage and shows basically the whole town that she’s a fraud. Yes she fixes it in the end but still.
Tumblr media
Molly is a very determined perfectionist. Staying up all night plotting things not even for herself. Like in All Night Plight she try’s to keep Scratch and Libby up all night to see a cosmic event and is very controlling about it determined to not let anything get in the way. She literally tries blowing away the clouds. Scratch asks her why she’s so obsessed with trying to see the comet. She breaks down and admits she wants one good memory the three of them can look back on. And in Out of house and home/Home is Where the Haunt is she ends up under a lot of stress with her dad with a broken and then losing her house. She ends up working so hard to make money and they end up being evicted and then she picks up a bunch of clubs and try’s to pretend everything is ‘totally normal’ (best displayed in the song for that episode) and Libby sees that something is clearly wrong with Molly. While Molly persists that she’s totally normal while actively breaking down and crying over a diorama. Libby finally try’s talking to her and Molly refuses to tell her. Andrea finds out they are living in the woods and helps them get there house back.
Tumblr media
Im not going to try unpack the emotional roller coaster of the season finale. But I did add YouTube links (none of those are mine) to 2 songs from the show that show Molly losing her mind.

If you’ve never watched the show and are a fan of amp or svtfoe I highly recommend you checking it out, yes it’s more ‘childish’ and ‘Disney-est’ compared to toh or gf but it’s still really great. And hopefully it gets a season 2 (but Disney has a tread of killing off the best shows for ‘not fitting the Disney brand’) Thanks for reading my rant about a kids show :)

Tgamm S1 Ep 12-B ¨The Don’t Gooder¨ episode analysis
Molly notices that Andrea is stealing her credit for the acts of service she does, at first Molly tries ignoring it but eventually it gets over her head when Brighton school comes up with a charity competition...
Episode writer: Cynthia Furey
¨The Don’t Gooder¨ is an episode a bit hard to talk about because it has one more than lesson one can get out of it and it has an interesting development for the main characters. Much like ¨Mazel Tov, Libby!¨ and ¨Monumental Disaster¨ this episode tackles some complex topics for the demographic it is intended to.
For starters, the most clear lesson here is about helping your community for the sake helping others and making the world a better place. As Pete puts it, that itself its own reward. This theme is represented in both ways with Molly and Andrea. With Andrea she represents people in social media of this new era that do what it is usually called ¨performative activism¨, that is that they pretend to care about a cause but in reality they don’t care about the social issues they are claim to be helping with. Sometimes this done for the sake of gaining attention or commiting fraud. In the episode, Andrea does this to gain attention from her followers and specially to impress her parents, who rarely pay attention to her.
In Molly’s case, she cares about the issues she is helping with and she wants to make the world a better place. However, the issue comes when she lets jealousy get the best of her and she starts to get too competitive with Andrea. She believes that Andrea cheated in the school competition and gets obsessed with proving to others that Andrea is a ¨Don’t Gooder¨. She tries breaking in the Davenport’s house to find some proof of her ¨rival¨ cheating. So, it isn’t longer about helping others for the sake of doing good, it turns into who can win and jealousy for a trophy. At first it’s easy to understand why she gets angry since Andrea is stealing credit that should go to her, but over time Molly gets carried away and shows a wilder side of her much like she did in ¨Ready, Set, Snow!¨ Near the end of the episode she reconsiders her actions and stops trying to expose Andrea since winning isn’t longer important for Molly.
The episode concludes with this lesson that doing activism or charity should be done with the intention of helping others rather than turning it into a competition or who gets the most credit out of it, something that it’s relevant for our generation.
The second theme would be when we let justice be turned into a quest for revenge, which is what Molly does when she tries exposing Andrea for ¨cheating¨ in the school fundraising. It’s quite interesting the way it is executed because Scratch is the one who encourages Molly to get back at Andrea at first but later he regrets it after seeing how everything gets out of control. It’s one of those scenarios that show that Scratch isn’t always a good influence on Molly and he can encourage some of her worst behaviour. His role in this episode is pretty good, seeing the exchanges he has with Molly, leading her to ¨teach Andrea a lesson¨. This characterization of his comes from him being protective of Molly and disliking when other people try taking advantage of her. This leads him to get more angry than Molly probably does, at least before Molly comes up with her plan.
When Molly is about to show everyone that Andrea bought the bar nuggets instead of selling them, she picks up that the reason Andrea was doing this was because her parents don’t give her the emotional attention she needs. This makes Molly feel sorry and decides to lie to cover up for Andrea, a gesture that she herself appreciates. And it’s a rather unique way of ending the conflict considering Andrea doesn’t get fully exposed. I would argue that it is a good ending because it fits with the themes of the story and it’s mostly in character for Molly to sympathize with even with people she doesn’t like. Although it isn’t the conclusion some would prefer, it does makes sense both for narrative and characters.
The third lesson a person can get away from ¨The Don’t Gooder¨ is how we sometimes overlook things we have by paying attention to what other people have. Molly mentions a few times how ¨Andrea has everything she wants¨ but near the end she learns that Andrea has neglectful parents who aren’t there for her and Molly appreciates that Sharon and Pete are loving parents who don’t act that way. This ¨reveal¨ (which was explored in ¨Saving Christmas previously) explains Andrea’s overall behaviour. Why she is always trying to get attention in social media, why she doesn’t pick up social cues and doesn’t appear to have real life friends or genuine friends. Her parents aren’t there for her, which makes her trying to find that attention somewhere else, in this case being social media. One complain i have is that the ¨reveal¨ in this episode feels rushed. It only last 10 seconds and it doesn’t get more time to get explored. It doesn’t let the viewer to process the information fast enough to get what is happening.
On last point, the song sequence for this episode is nice. It’s better than the previous segment, ¨Game Night¨. While it’s not amazing, it works just fine for the scene it is playing in. The whole sequence involves Molly selling the nugget bars and showing how Andrea does nothing to sell them. There are some funny moment of Scratch sabotaging Andrea’s to help Molly to win.
In conclusion: ¨The Don’t Gooder¨ is an episode that does well at developing the main characters in different ways, it teaches some good lessons and it has unique ending that fits with the story. I like how one can take away more than one thing out of it and it was nice to see Andrea getting a deeper exploration to her motives and her behaviour. It’s pretty solid.

Prediction for the upcoming episodes:
"Ice Princess" based on the title, it heavily implies that's about Andrea. Not sure what could be the conflict be about. This segment is going to air near Valentine's Day.. so maybe it has to do with that?
"Ready,Set,Snow!": The title sounds like a ski race. My bet is that this is a Darryl or Pete episode.
"The Game Night" we already know the premise of this one. Something peculiar i noticed from the ads is that Scratch is going to have an important moment in this episode. Note: Bob Roth and Bill Motz mentioned that is one of their favourite episodes. This means it could be a very funny one.
"The Don't Gooder": The premise is Molly trying prove that Andrea is stealing her credit. I'm curious to see what direction is going to take the plot. If my theory is correct, in Ice Princess Andrea's motivations are explored and in "The Don't Gooder" she starts to change her bad girl personality if she regrets not giving Molly credit. That would be the start of her character arc.
"Innocent Until Proven Ghostly": I think this is the murder mystery episode that was mentioned in the Tgamm 2020 comic con panel. I don't know what to say about this one... it could an important episode or a funny one.. the title is very specific. My hopes is that it takes place in the ghost world because i'd love to see more of it.
"Twin Trouble": It's clearly about the twin characters from Molly school who appear in multiple episodes. No idea what the trouble part is going to be about. Unless they start pranking Molly and Scratch puts a curse on them in return. The rest is shenanigans.
