It had been a warm, sunny day when youâd first met him.
The bakery had been going steadily as ever in Velaris, your family-owned shop hard at work to make the citizen's pastries and your famous sourdough bread. Generations of the family had owned it beforehand, and you were still helping out, you had been working the front that day.
Azriel had walked in, asking for some sort of treat that his High Lady was craving. His description of it hadnât been the best, leading to almost thirty minutes of you showing him different sweet treats and pastries until he finally found what he wanted, and ordered a dozen of them.
That had been the beginning of your situationship, where heâd come to the shop asking for various things once every now and then, only to subtly get closer to you and even slightly flirt.
Eventually, he asked you out to dinner, and after a few more, you two began dating, and he admitted that he felt a little spark when he first saw you. Looking back, you wondered if that was the only reason he even pursued you in the first place, not for your personality, or even your looks, but just because of that spark.
The first few weeks had been lovely, him being thoughtful and caring to you in the little acts. Such as the way he made coffee for you just how you liked it in the mornings, how he began to put things lower on shelves so you could reach them, how he would talk quietly when you had migraines, or be patient when you were in a mood. The best example probably being the first time you had your period in front of him.
He hadnât acted disgusted by it, instead, heâd gently cared for you, helping you through it, buying you chocolate and all the foods and snacks you were craving, getting heating pads, making sure you were alright for the entire insufferable week.
However, after that, the honeymoon period mustâve worn off, because he seemed constantly tense or stressed after that. His face remained like stone, not budging or cracking, even for you. The softening of his eyes that had happened before it was replaced by something strained as if he was waiting impatiently for something.
Even in bed, he wouldnât look at you, remained quiet as a mouse, the only sign that he was enjoying himself being a large exhale as he buried his face in your neck or turned away. That was another problem, he knew how to fuck, he knew how to do that very well, but he didnât know how to make love. Any time you tried to teach him, he just didnât accept it, simply giving an unsatisfactory hum in response and continuing what he was doing.
Heâd come home from missions, drenched in sweat and sometimes even blood, and not say anything even when you cleaned him off and led him to bed, giving you a cold shoulder. You fully understood that he had a bloody past and history, but you at least expected him to open up a little bit to you. Without any emotional transparency, it wasnât really a relationship, was it?
His family was nice, though. You liked them, especially Nesta, since she seemed not to put up with everyone elseâs bullshit. She was the only one you opened up to about your issues with Azriel, and how you were thinking of breaking things off or taking a break.
âHeâs a hard one, but it sounds like heâs being an ass. If it were me, I wouldnât put up with that.â
She said while you both sat in the library, neither of you noticing the small shadows lurking near the books. You sighed, nodding slowly.
âI know, itâs justâŚI feel like heâs waiting for something else, like just me isnât enough.â
You said with a frown, and Nesta gave a little hum of acknowledgment.
âJust give it a week or two, and if youâre still unhappy, Iâd leave.â
She said with a shrug, and not long after the both of you went your separate ways. You followed Nestaâs advice, giving the relationship a week or two, and it remained stressed and tense. However, when you finally managed to get into Azrielâs office during the day, about to break things off, he spoke first.
âLet me guess, your testing weeks werenât satisfactory?â
He asked in a sharp tone, eyes narrowed on you with a piercing gaze. You took a sharp breath in, glaring at him despite the embarrassment that tried to take over.
âYou were spying on me.â
You said, trying to keep your tone even despite how it wavered slightly. He stood then, towering over you from his superior height.
âI donât like when people talk about me behind my back, let alone my partner.â
He said, the words clipped and full of anger simmering under the surface. He took a step closer, and you took a step back. Youâd never been afraid of him, not really, but at this moment you didnât exactly want to be close to him. His keen eyes noticed, and something like hurt and anger flashed in them.
âDonât act like Iâm some terrible person for having a girl talk because youâve been acting weird. I canât believe you spied on me.â
He huffed, taking another step closer, the shadows swirling and writhing, looking more agitated than ever. You took another step back, only to run straight into a wall that was now behind you. He continued stalking closer until your heart was beating faster and faster until he leaned down so you were eye-to-eye.
âIâm sorry Iâm not what you signed up for. Iâm not gentle or loving, I am a spymaster, I torture and kill people for my work, and have for centuries. I wonât be forced to change just to fit what you think I should be, or what you want in a relationship.â
He hissed, his words now full of anger and frustration. You leaned back, trying to keep away.
âThatâs your problem. You donât know how to separate your work life from your personal life, and youâre taking it out on me. You can be gentle and loving, Iâve seen it before, but Iâm not what you want. Youâve been acting like I need to be something more for you when Iâm not. I donât know what you want, but your inability to communicate and be transparent isnât my problem.â
You said back, tears now welling up as you tried to push him away. He didnât back up, only moving closer and pushing you into the wall. His temper was building, and you could tell. It was only a matter of time until he wouldâŚ.
âA mate! I wanted a mate!â
Snap.
The silence stretched on and on for what seemed like hours after he said that, yelling it in your face. Youâd never heard him raise his voice before. You gaped at the sight of him unwinding and shattering right in front of you as he rambled on.
âItâs not fair, Rhys gets Feyre, Cassian gets Nesta, Lucien gets Elain even if she doesnât want him, and who do I get? No one.â
He said in an almost panicked tone, rambling on and on. He pushed off the wall, pacing around in his office, hands fidgeting.
âI thoughtâwhen I felt that spark when I went in your shop, that it might be you, but you werenât enough. You arenât my mate, because it wouldâve snapped by now, I wouldâve felt it, but I didnât. You arenât enough for me, and you never will be.â
He said, finally sighing at the end. He wouldnât even look at you, eyes unfocused and only looking randomly around the room, anywhere but towards you. You swallowed, trying to hold back the tears that welled up because of his words. You werenât enough. You never would be.
He looked like he felt a bit bad for half a second before his expression hardened again into that unflinching steel youâd grown to hate. He finally looked at you again, no hint of empathy or guilt now in his gaze for leading you on, or practically torturing you these past months.
Taking a shaky breath, you finally choked words out.
âOh,â You murmured, trying to swallow the lump in your throat.
âOkay.â
You whispered, managing to push off the wall to walk to the door, opening it and walking down the hall, to the room you two had shared, and you began packing your belongings. Picture frames of your family, your clothes, little trinkets, toiletries, you left no trace of you behind as you packed it in a large duffel bag in the closet.
You walked to the front door of the House, open the door, and walk out, the 10,000 steps down looming in front of you. Azriel didnât offer to fly you down, and it was only when you turned to look back at him, his face stone cold, that you felt it.
The snap.
A shifting warmth and coldness all at once.
And a mating bond.
His face fell in what looked like pure devastation and realization, hazel eyes wide and lips parted. It mightâve been the most emotion youâd seen him show in weeks. He began to walk out, trying to go after you as you began taking the steps, but a large flap and wave of wind stopped him.
Cassianâs large, hulking form stopped him, shaking his head grimly as he walked towards you, where you were still going down the steps, and he laid a hand on your shoulder.
âIâll fly you.â
He said simply, and you nodded with a sniffle as he picked you up, his wings carried him into the air as he soared up, only to land moments later and drop you off back at the bakery where your family was working. He set you on the ground, pulling you into a warm hug.
âIâm sorry,â
He said, letting you pull away, and for some reason, you believed him. You, Cassian, and Nesta made quite the dynamic trio, and you would probably miss them the most. They were some of your closest friends, and also wonderful drinking buddies. You and Nesta loved cheating in card games and beating Cassian when he was too drunk to notice until he owed either of you a fortune.
âYou can always come visit me and Nes, just send a letter or somethinâ.â
He murmured to you, wiping the tears from your cheek, and giving you an apologetic grin, before sending you off inside your familyâs bakery and flying off.
This time, when you saw the shadow still curled around your wrist like it always had been when you and Azriel were dating, you smacked it off, sticking your hand right into a clear ray of sunshine to chase it off.
You were done being dragged down by shadows and darkness, and for once in your miserable life, you were going to look for the light instead.

****
Azriel had no idea what he was thinking when he let Y/n in his apartment. The same place heâd overanalysed to see where all he could fuck her.Â
Thatâs right.Â
He wasnât thinking at all.Â
Because he opened the door, saw her, and voila~ she was inside.Â
She moved towards the kitchen and began hunting for plates. Azriel simply watched her as she made herself at home and owned the kitchen.Â
Yes.
She did.Â
Y/n owned the kitchen, the apartment, and she owned him.Â
Azriel appreciated the domesticity for a moment before walking towards her to help. He picked out a bottle of wine and the glasses.Â
When they finally sat down, a silence washed over. Azriel was getting the feeling that this was not a comfortable silence. âWhat happened?âÂ
âI shouldâve at least texted you.â So thatâs why she was gloomy.Â
âYour classes begin tomorrow. You need to study.â He remembered that Y/n took academics seriously.Â
âBut I kept on remembering you and I promised myself Iâd text or call after finishing one topic and then I read more papers and got carried away and now, itâs been three days.â She slowly quietened and started playing with her fork.Â
âWeâre going to dine and chat.â He deftly served the lasagna for both of them. âThereâs nothing wrong here. Nothing weird or awkward. Nothing to worry about.âÂ
Azriel watched her nod at him hesitantly. She was still worried.Â
âHow can I convince you that everything is all right between us?â He asked, folding his arms and letting them rest on the table as he leaned forward to look at her closely.Â
This woman, this wonderful woman, fretting because she didnât contact him. She didnât need to know that he already knew what was going on. That she was so immersed in studying that she did not have any proper meals.Â
He also knew that she had rushed off to the supermarket earlier this evening and spent a lot of time in the kitchen.Â
What he didnât know was that all of it was for him.Â
That information warmed him in an unexpected manner.Â
âHey.â He rose and reached her. Azriel turned her chair and kneeled before her. âItâs all right.âÂ
âItâs just, youâre so good to me and. . . I didnât even call or text and now, youâre still. . . youâre still so good to me.â
Good?Â
That wouldnât do.
He was supposed to be the best for her.Â
Good sounded like mediocrity in his own head but the word sounded like an achievement when she said it.Â
Was this what she thought about him?
âItâs all right. Weâre fine. Youâre here. Iâm here. Weâre okay.â He patted her head gently.Â
Azriel stood up, pulled another chair next to her, and readied a bite for her but Y/n shook her head. âI made it for you. You should eat first.â
Something in his head had just short circuited.Â
He had just been hit with the realisation that she had cooked for him but to hear her say it was euphoric.Â
âYouâll eat after I take a bite?â She nodded instantly so he took a bite.Â
It wasnât made by a chef who considered cooking to be an art for the world to enjoy.Â
It was made by someone who wanted to cook only for him and not for the world.Â
A taste prepared to be enjoyed within the privacy and security of the people that would comprise his home.Â
âThank you.â His voice was raw and tinged with much more emotion than heâd expected.Â
This moment with her, her cooking, and him was simply so overwhelming.Â
âYouâve done so well.â Y/n smiled brightly and a part of Azriel felt like he had truly achieved something in life. To make this woman happy and safe.Â
This woman, warm as a blanket in early winter mornings, beautiful in the face of her entire lifeâhe wanted his opportunity to cherish her. And heâd take it. He could be patient.Â
Azriel did not ever remember doing anything good enough to deserve this womanâs presence in his life. But she was here and heâd keep her by his side.Â
They dined sitting next to each other. And Azriel was acutely aware of everything she did. Every time those breasts heaved as she breathed. Those lips with a bit of cheese at the corner.Â
He turned to his own plate, nearly scarfing down the meal lest he have another inappropriate thought. But the sight of his own fork reminded him of her mouth around her own fork.Â
Y/n would look lovely on her knees and even lovelier with his cock inside that mouth. Heâd wrap her perfect hair around his fist and thrust inside her mouth. And then heâd-
âAzriel.â She was sitting right next to him, and the height difference was enough for him to think about leaning in.Â
That stupid bit of cheese was still by the corner of her lip and Azriel could nearly see how sheâd look after heâd come in her mouth.Â
âAre you all right?â
No, he wasnât.Â
He wanted that mouth.Â
On his lips, on his chest, on his cock.Â
âYes.â A fucking lie. He was not okay knowing that the woman he was fantasising about was right next to him, eating a meal, thinking that this was just a neighbourly interaction.Â
Azriel definitely didnât have any neighbourly intentions towards Y/n unless you could count wanting to fuck her against her front door as one of those.Â
Conversation continued as she told him about her classes, her education so far, and more things heâd already read in her report but with an addition of her own feelings towards them.Â
She was not eager to indulge in her private life but she was very proud to talk about Nesta, her best friend since childhood. He heard a few funny moments from her past and bits and pieces about her family.Â
At some point, heâd begun speaking. It was not just about being comfortable with her but also about wanting to tell her, and knowing that she would now know something about him. So he told her about his friends, his education, and a few things about his everyday life.Â
When it was nearly eleven, he reminded her that she had classes from tomorrow. Azriel could swear he saw disappointment in her eyes as Y/n made a move to leave.Â
He really wanted to kiss her. Tell her that sheâd cooked really well. That he was thankful for her efforts.Â
And instead of escorting her to the door, he wanted to take her to the bedroom where heâd undress her and kiss every inch of her.Â
He couldnât kiss her but there was something else he could do.Â
And thatâs how Azriel found himself watching baking videos as he retired to bed instead of taking a while to masturbate to his fantasies of Y/n.
****
Y/n was in a good mood after last nightâs dinner but she felt guilty for not contacting Azriel. Her neighbour was so nice, so kind. Heâd helped her far more than neighbours ever did and sheâd just . . . forgotten him while she studied.Â
She was well-prepared for her classes, met a few new people, toured the campus library, and returned to her apartment.Â
She immediately FaceTimed Nesta.Â
âWait, let me just set this.â Nesta moved to the kitchen in her own shared apartment and placed the phone so that she could cook while they talked. Y/n had already done the same. âNow, before you spill, I have some news. Remember your ex?â
âVery difficult to forget his impact in my life.â
âLots of trauma and insecurity, I know.â Nesta knew how condescending that creature had been to Y/n, always belittling her whenever she did something or was about to do something herself. And then heâd be a little hypocrite by saying that heâd support her choices while also routinely telling her to stop using her brain. âHe got roped into a case of tax fraud and he got fired but heâs still a party to the case.â
Y/n remained silent but her wide eyes were enough for Nesta to understand that sheâd been shocked. Nesta waited in front of the screen patiently. âWell. . . fuck him.â
âThatâs my girl!â Nesta cheered. âAlso, thereâs a rumour floating among the alumni that he made some powerful enemies so heâs laying low or heâs underground or on the run or whatever terminology they use for people like that but since this guy is the worthless lowlife that hurt you, Iâd prefer to say heâs in the sewer.â
âHopefully, heâll drown in the sewage.â
âMoving on, quite literally, to better things in life. Exhibit A: your hot neighbour. Have you fucked?â
âNo. And I donât think we will.â She had a good talk with him last night, absorbing his every word like a sponge but she couldnât help but feel that he was not attracted to her in the way she was towards him.Â
âWhy not? Heâs hot. Youâre hot. It only makes sense that you two fuck.âÂ
Y/n looked at the screen, unimpressed. âI think he sees me as a sister.â
âThen go! Do incest! What are you waiting for?â Nesta waved her hands.
âWeâre not related.âÂ
âThen do the step-sibling incest thing. Weâve already watched My Fault. Itâs bound to be hot.â Nesta deadpanned.Â
My Fault was a hot, forbidden romance. Now, that was another fantasy.Â
âWait. Why do you think he sees you as a sister?â Nesta came to the screen and started eating an apple.Â
âBecause he patted my head last night.â Y/n sighed. âIt felt very sibling-like.â She began peeling the onions.Â
âWhat happened last night?â Nesta was now curious.Â
âI forgot to contact him for three days so I made lasagna as an apology.â
âWait a fucking second.â Here we go. âYou have that hot furnace as your neighbour and you forgot him?â Nesta sounded very much offended on Azrielâs behalf. âAre you drugged or something?â She opened a container and closed it. She kept it back and took out another container.
âWe enjoyed dinner and dessert and conversations but I almost cried before we started.â
âDarling, men have to be dealt with very tactfully.â Nesta placed a bowl in front of her phone and began peeling potatoes. âIf they see your emotional baggage, itâll only be a big turn-off even when you only want a fling. For example, in my gym, thereâs a trainor-â
âYou joined a gym?â Y/n interrupted. âWhy am I hearing about this now?â
âI have too much free time now that youâre not here so I joined a gym.â Nesta glared at Y/n and the latter kept quiet. âThereâs a hot trainor and I know he wants to fuck me. But what am I doing? Iâm doing what every reasonable, prudent woman would do. Iâm ignoring him.â
âThatâs probably not how you get laid.â
âIâm not trying to get laid. Iâm trying to get railed. Understand the difference.â Nesta pointed her knife at the screen.Â
âLaid is a romantic thing. Laid is when you lose your virginity. Laid is for sweet love making.â Nesta sounded a little disgusted while explaining âlaidâ before her tone changed and she began her passionate explanation about what ârailedâ meant.Â
âRailed is for fucking against any surface because you canât wait. Itâs for throwing away your clothes and letting all the lust take over. Touching is for laid, groping is for railed. Do you understand?â Nesta waved her knife and Y/m dutifully nodded.Â
âMaintain enough distance to let the sexual tension brew like a stew. But not too much distance to make him uninterested. And then soon, Cassian will fuck me like his life depends on it.â Nesta sounded gleeful as she revealed her plan.Â
Y/n knew that Nesta was only going to fuck this trainor because she never did serious relationships. Y/n had been in one serious relationship which blew up on her face. And since then, it was unbearable to think of going for romance. âCassian is your trainorâs name?â
âNice name to moan, donât you think?â
âDoes he know you think that?â She began cutting the onions. Y/n thought that name sounded familiar.Â
âAbsolutely not. Itâs only been two days. Iâll take some time. Heâs already looking when Iâm stretching and so now, Iâll do some specific warm ups thatâll make him realise that Iâm a very, very flexible woman.â
âYou bitch.â Y/n laughed as she stirred the vegetables.Â
âIâm going to make him beg.â Nesta grinned evilly. âEnough about him. How do we get you to commit incest?â
âDid I tell you heâs older?â
âHow old?â
âHeâll turn twenty nine in a few days.â
âYou just turned twenty four. Oh, heâll love it when you call him daddy.â Nesta smirked.
âI think I want to call him sir.â Y/n laughed.Â
âWait. Thatâs a good idea.â
âWhat?â
âGrocery shopping. All right? Show some cleavage. Stand next to him. Look up at him with the most innocent look. Okay? So innocent and holy that he should think youâre on the list of innocent people right after Jesus. And then say, âyes, sirâ. Imagine the sex. He wonât even wait to take you to the bedroom.â
âIâm not really sure.â Y/n was hesitant. What if she ruined whatever friendship she had with him?Â
The doorbell rang once. âWait a sec. Nes, Iâll be back in a minute.âÂ
Y/n washed her hands quickly, wiped them on a towel, and went to answer the door.Â
Azriel stood there, looking mindnumbingly sexy in a shirt with the first couple of buttons not. . . his chest. . . tattoos and. . . Y/n took a step back and nearly fell.Â
Azrielâs arm snaked around her waist as he easily caught her and helped her stand up.Â
âI received your parcel by mistake.â He whispered near her ear.Â
âThank you.â She probably squeaked. His hand was still on her waist and her eyes were shut tightly.Â
âY/n?â His voice was too deep, too dark, too bedroom-like. âWhy are you hot?âÂ
âWhat?â Her voice was a mere whisper.Â
âOpen your eyes, Y/n.â Why was this man saying her name so much? âYou feel feverish.â At some point, the back of his hand was pressed against her forehead.Â
âIâm not. Iâm fine.â She hurriedly explained. âThank you for the parcel.âÂ
Azriel smiled beautifully at her. âIâll see you around.âÂ
His hands left her waist and he reached his own door. Y/n watched as he entered his apartment, waved at her before closing the door.Â
She closed her own door and ran to the kitchen to tell Nesta all about it.
****Â
When Y/n had been exploring during her first day of classes, Azriel easily infiltrated her house (he had a spare key, what do you think he bought the building for?) and set a few bugs to help him eavesdrop.Â
Was it a coincidence that he made his appearance while Y/n was on a video call with her best friend, discussing and debating about fucking him? Â
Absolutely not.Â
He knew that Y/n didnât like wearing her airpods unless it was necessary so her video calls were always on speaker phone. Heâd heard every bit of what both women said.Â
The only thing that was a coincidence was that he was just about to ring the doorbell when the delivery man had appeared. He signed her parcel, claiming to be her boyfriend (which he would be) and when the delivery boy had left, he finally proceeded.Â
Now that he knew for a fact that she was sexually attracted to him, he had to only seduce her. To coax her desires before revealing that he was always ready to fuck her.Â
As for how heâd marry her, that was a little further away but he was confident now.Â
If she ever called him sir, he knew heâd crack and explode. Y/n wouldnât even have to do much and heâd fuck her ever so thoroughly.Â
So he waited.Â
He got his work done. A few meetings. Calls. Learned how to bake.Â
He did get his chance to talk to her or go grocery shopping with her but she did not call him sir.Â
The electricity was beginning to crackle between them when he spotted her looking at his forearms often. Heâd wear henleys, roll up his sleeves, and watch as she drooled over while pretending he didnât realise.Â
How adorable was she as she checked him out not so discreetly.Â
And how adorable would she be, begging and crying for him to stop.Â
****
Azriel had finally perfected baking a cheesecake and it was kept for cooling. A few more hours and he could bring it over to Y/n.Â
The doorbell rang and Azriel cursed. If there was someone other than Y/n on the other side, heâd throw them down the stairs.Â
This was a bit inconvenient since heâd just finished showering. He draped a towel around his hips and took another one to begin with his hair as he headed for the door.
It seemed that there would be no deaths since Y/n was waiting for him. But the moment she saw him, her eyes widened and she looked like sheâd seen a ghost.Â
Why?
She looked damn good in that grey sweater and black jeans. Winter fashion suited Y/n. Sweaters were gentle on her curves, her legs were. . .Â
Yes.Â
Those were the legs he wanted around his waist. Minus the jeans, of course.Â
She looked so fucking good but there was only one problem when she went out with him.
He couldnât show her off as his wife.
As stated in the previous chapter, a lot of things would be sorted if he married Y/n.Â
Azriel was ready to brood now that the reality of not being married to her slapped him.Â
But then why was she so shocked when she was the one who looked like she was out to seduce him by existing?Â
Oh.
He was in a towel.
And with his chest on display.Â
He remembered that tattoos were an attraction for women and he had loads of them. On his fingers, hands, arms and chest.Â
Was she attracted?
âY/n?â He let the towel for his hair hang around his neck.Â
âHuh?â She then looked at his face because sheâd been staring at his chest for so long.Â
How cute.Â
She was attracted.
Did she know that all this was hers?Â
This chest. These hands. These legs. And this cock.Â
Everything was hers.Â
Honestly speaking, heâd fuck her if she asked.Â
âCome in.â He opened the door wider.
âYou have tattoos.â She still seemed to be in a daze.Â
He really had to put in effort to not smirk at her flustered state.Â
Would she like the tattoos under the towel?
âYes, I have tattoos. Come inside, Y/n.â He gently ushered her in before realising that he just brought in his woman inside the apartment. His woman who was definitely attracted to him and even more so, more that sheâd seen him half naked.Â
âYeah. Um. . I was going to buy vegetables. Just wanted to see if youâd like to come with me or if you wanted me to get something.â She was looking at the wall now.Â
What was this woman even thinking?Â
That heâd ever refuse her?Â
Hah! What nonsense.
Why was he even here in this country, in this apartment, if not for her?
Azriel walked over, tilted her chin with a hand, and met her gaze looking as oblivious as he could. âIs there a reason why youâre not looking at me?âÂ
Fuck it. He wanted her to look at her. What did he even look this good for if she was not looking at him?
âI thought. . Maybe youâd be uncomfortable if I looked at you. Some people donât. . they donât like that and I didnât want you to feel uncomfortable because of me.âÂ
âYou have my permission to look.â To touch. To kiss. To suck. To fuck. She had all permissions since day one.Â
âVegetables?â She averted her gaze.Â
Azriel restrained the urge to smirk.Â
âGive me ten minutes.â He returned to his room, dried himself, dressed up, and returned to Y/n.
âReady?â He asked as he wrote his watch.Â
âYou havenât dried your hair.âÂ
âI used the towel.â
âItâs evening, Az. Youâll catch a cold. Whereâs your hair dryer?â There it was. There was the confident Y/n.
âDonât have one.â He lied so easily. He wanted to see what sheâd do.Â
She marched over to the door and opened it. âWell. Come on. Lock up. Youâre using my hair dryer. Only then will you come with me.â
âYes, maâam.â He grinned. Azriel loved it when she bossed him around. This side of her rarely revealed itself.Â
Y/n froze and then turned away to unlock her door. And Azriel did as heâd been told.
****
Has anyone seen Azriel half naked? Ever?Â
In a towel? Bare chested?Â
Droplets on that golden skin?Â
Tattoos? Fucking tattoos?Â
Wet hair?Â
The wet dream?Â
How in fuck had she not fainted?Â
And why did she think she was being sensible by inviting him to her apartment?Â
To dry his hair?
Well, he did need his hair to be dried to avoid a cold.Â
She could keep telling herself that.Â
And what the fuck was that chin raising movement he did?Â
In that instant, she could think of nothing but his she wanted to be laid down on the wooden coffee table and fucked like they were all that mattered.Â
A towel.Â
A towel.Â
A towel with a tattoo that it partially concealed.Â
He had a tattoo there.Â
She wanted to see that tattoo.Â
And his cock.Â
She wanted to kneel before him.
Did anybody in the entire godsfucking universe bothered to take pity on her sanity and tell her that this man was not just sexy but fictional sexy?Â
No.Â
Her sanity had evaporated at some point.
Because her knees were already weakening as soon as she laid eyes on him.Â
And heâd raised her chin looking like a sex god from a dark romance novel.Â
Y/n needed to kneel and bend and spread for him all at once.Â
Y/n: Save me.Â
Nesta: What happened?
Y/n: I saw him shirtless. In a towel. Only a towel. My sanity is deceased. And Iâm so fucking horny.Â
Nesta: Send pics ;)
Y/n: He has tattoos all over. I saw one of them which was partially covered by that towel. Itâs down there. Â
Nesta: Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Y/n: He has a back.
Nesta: Everyone has a back.
Y/n: Wide shouldered, golden, tattooed back, with droplets.Â
Nesta: Oh. Ohhhhhh. Ohhooohhoooooooo. You lucky bitch, youâre going to get railed. Scratch that back. Mark him well.
Y/n pocketed her phone before she got too delusional and brought the hairdryer. Azriel was sitting on her bed as instructed. She connected the appliance to the plug and gave it to him.Â
He looked at her coyly with a stupid smirk before she sighed. âFine.âÂ
Y/n switched on the dryer and dried his hair. She combed through with her fingers and Azriel looked more than happy to simply sit there.Â
âYou should do this if youâre going to wash your hair after lunchtime.â She wanted to sound stern but Y/n was busy thinking about grabbing his hair in other situations.Â
âUh huh.â He grinned at her like a cat. Y/n set the dryer down and fluffed down his hair herself.Â
âAll done.âÂ
He stood up and checked himself in the mirror. âThank you, sweetheart. Now shall we get some vegetables?â
Y/n would have a heart attack at any time soon. She quickly texted Nesta, followed after him, locked the door and they left for shopping.Â
Instead of heading towards the sidewalk, Azriel headed towards the line of cars parked on the side of the road.Â
âWhere are you going?â Y/n followed. She did not like how this man with his height and long legs just took two steps while she had to take four. Sheâd never really noticed before since he adjusted his pace to walk by her side.Â
âMy car is here. I had it sent over.â He then looked at her just before he opened the door to the driverâs seat. âDo you drive?â
âYes?âÂ
âDo you want to drive?â
âItâs your car. Iâm sure you donât want a scratch.â
âI trust you.â He walked over and handed the keys to her. âYou have a valid licence, right?â
âAzriel, you have to ask about the licence before you give someone your car keys.â
âBut you said you drive.â This man had the audacity to look like a scolded child when, not more than twenty minutes ago, he looked like he could throw her around and fuck her all day, every day.Â
At this point, Y/n needed an exorcism to help with her uncontrollable number of fantasies.Â
The car was also huge enough to be fucked against. And she could bend over against the bonnet while he took her from behind but it was too cold at night for pants to be removed.Â
âY/n?â Azriel appeared in front of her like his existence hadnât resulted in an unexpected number of filthy delusions that made her panic in his presence. âReady to leave?â
âAll right.â
And they entered the car. When they were settled and she started, Azriel began. âAnd if you want to go somewhere far just for the quiet, we can go now that we have a car.âÂ
âYou love this car, donât you?â
And Azriel went on a rant about how heâd purchased this one because of all that he fell in love with in this particular model. By the time he finished, they were already parked near the supermarket.Â
Y/n removed her seatbelt and tapped his arm. âWeâve reached.â She smiled at him.
It was nice and fluffy to simply go on a drive and listen to him.Â
****
It was so nice to just sit in the car. Azriel loved driving but he recently discovered he also loved sitting. And now that he was following Y/n with the shopping trolley, he felt even better.Â
And all Azriel wanted to do was to embrace her from behind, kiss her cheek, and laugh with her at something stupid.Â
It was simple and pleasant. To follow her with a trolley, to watch her frown at two containers of mayonnaise, to listen to her complain about how they should have separate section for panty liners and pads instead of putting them with baby diapers.Â
She was a bossy woman, a side that revealed itself when they went grocery shopping.Â
Gods, he wanted her to order him. To ride him and take charge.Â
His grip on the trolley tightened.Â
And just when he was beginning to control his thoughts, he saw the fire exit. The washrooms were built there. Nobody would see but he could simply hoist her away and fuck her there.Â
The thrill of being in a public place did something else to him.Â
He looked at Y/n and saw her waving at him with a container of something in her hand. He walked over to her and gave his suggestion on the chocolate spread.Â
The only thing he hated in this routine of grocery shopping was when it ended and they went their separate ways. Sheâd go to her apartment and heâd go to his. And he hated that. He hated returning to a place where she wasnât.
And for the first time, Azriel was not alone. He was lonely in the silence.Â
****
Y/n knew sheâd begun caring for her neighbour despite her attraction to him. That sheâd started getting used to his presence in her life.Â
It was only supposed to be sexual attraction but as hot as he was, he was also good to her. He cared for her and his every action proved it.Â
She liked him.
She liked him.Â
Oh god.Â
She actually liked Azriel.Â
Which sane woman wouldnât?Â
She didnât care about other women. Other women could go drown in the sewer.Â
What about her?Â
This man was only supposed to be a one-time encounter from that club they went to for Feyreâs birthday party.Â
And then he was at the airport.Â
In the flight. In the same building.Â
And now he was a part of her life.
And during that dinner when she'd brought him lasagna, when he asked her that question so seriously. âHow can I convince you that everything is all right between us?â
Y/n had melted.
She looked at the apartment. This was just for a semester but Y/n loved this space solely because Azriel was next door.Â
And at some point, sheâd begun wishing he was here.Â
She called Nesta and when her friend picked up the phone, she began crying. âI like him.âÂ

Call It What You Want.
Azriel x Fem!Reader
Summary: After a long mission away, the only thing Azriel wants is his mate.
Warnings: Fluff
masterlist
Door clicking open, Azriel found himself letting out a sigh of relief at the familiar scent of him and his mates shared home.
Meandering through their large apartment in the centre of Velaris, Azriel searched for where Y/n could possibly be.
The mission had been gruelling. Trying to stay hidden and get information on the continent is no easy task, but Azriel was the best person to do it. Everyone knew that.
Azriel's shadows balled around him as if they were as equally as tired as him.
"Az?" a familiar female voice fell to his ears "Is that you?"
Before he could reply, footsteps from the kitchen began to draw nearer. Until he was greeted with Y/n's face.
"Oh my love" She spoke softly with a pout on her face as his shadows suddenly awoke again, making their way towards her.
Azriel felt pathetically tired. Therefore when Y/n opened her arms towards the man he practically fell into them.
Stroking his hair, Y/n placed delicate kisses on his head as she guided him to their shared bedroom.
"I need to take a shower, I stink." Azriel groaned, not wanting to leave his mates embrace.
He might seem clingy, sure, but neither Azriel nor Y/n could care. They just enjoyed the feeling of being in each other's arms, especially after being apart for so long.
"Okay, you go shower and I'll make you some tea for when you come out." Y/n smiled at his dramatics as she made her way back to the kitchen.
After around 20 minutes, Azriel left the bathroom to find Y/n sat with a book open on their bed.
Looking up, Y/n smiled at him.
"Baby, let's get you to bed." the girl spoke, her voice just above a whisper.
She helped him snuggle into the blankets as he laid his head on her chest.
"I'm going to kill Rhys if he sends you on any more missions any time soon."
Azriel let out a small laugh, his shadows curling around Y/n in comfort.
"Let's not think about him right now please?" He grumbled as he buried his head further into the crook of her neck.
Y/n giggled slightly and ran a hand through his hair.
"I love you."
A/N: Thank you for all of the love recently!! my requests are open all the time for anyone who wants to send some in. This is my first acotar fic but I'm happy to write for any of the characters! Though my favourites are probably Lucien, Eris and Azriel lol.

Morning Person
Azriel x reader
summary: reader is not a morning person and Cassian becomes the victim of her grumpiness
warnings: none!
Masterlist
The sunâs early morning rays shone through the window and onto your face, rousing you from your peaceful sleep. You turned away from the window and onto your back, feeling around the other side of the bed. Azriel wasnât there. You opened your eyes to look around the room in search of your mate but he was nowhere to be seen.Â
You got the answer of his whereabouts when you heard loud, boisterous laughter coming from the kitchen downstairs. The family must have come over for breakfast, and your sweet, wonderful and considerate mate had let you sleep in.Â
A small smile made it to your face from this act of kindness as you sat in bed. You stretched like a cat in the sun, taking a couple of minutes to regain consciousness before going down to the kitchen for your morning coffee.Â
Everyoneâs heads turned to you as you entered the kitchen. Rhys, Feyre, Cassian, Nesta, Mor and Elain were all situated around the round table with beverage cups in hand, while Azriel stood leaning against the shelf at the opposite corner, hands braced against the edge.
He smiled as you walked in.Â
âGood morning, sleepy head,â Cassian said teasingly.Â
You ignored Cassian, giving him the finger and moving to hug Azriel, making Cassian gape in offence.
You wrapped your arms around Azrielâs waist and cuddled into his chest.Â
âGood morning, sleepy head,â Azriel mumbled, kissing your crown.Â
âGood morning, Azzie,â you said with a smile, kissing his chest.Â
You heard Cassian gasp in offence behind you before he asked, âHow come he gets a good morning while I get the finger?âÂ
âBecause heâs Azriel and youâre not,â you replied.Â
âSheâs got a point, brother,â Rhysand said teasingly.
You heard your family around the table laughing at your response while you had no doubts Azriel had a shit-eating grin on his face aimed at Cassian.
After a couple more seconds, you let go of Azriel and moved to the coffee machine next to him, setting your favourite cup into the slot. Then you turned around to the rest of your family while you waited for the coffee.Â
Cassian was whining to his mate who only rolled her eyes at the Generalâs antics.Â
âIâm sorry, Cassie,â you said with a mocking pout. When Cassian huffed and turned away from you, you laughed and went over, kissing his cheek in apology.
The action brought a smile to Cassianâs face but your mate certainly didnât like it since he moved forward and wrapped an arm possessively around your waist while glaring daggers at Cassian.Â
Cassian teasingly smirked at Azriel and said, âYou know, y/n, if it doesnât work out between you and Azriel, you can always join me and Nesta.âÂ
You rolled your eyes at the general. âCassian I assure you, if for some reason Azriel and I arenât together, Iâd much rather live with Bryaxis than you.âÂ
Cassian was offended once again while your whole family laughed. Even Nesta managed a small smile.

Best mistake
Azriel x Reader
Summary; Reader doesn't quite understand how mating bonds work.
Warnings; Mentions of sex
Masterlist
Velaris was always beautiful during the day, but during the night? It was a sight of dreams, if you really think about it; thatâs one of the reasons it is called court of dreams. Because of this you decided that tonightâs dinner party should be held in the main balcony of the house of wind where the view was spectacular. Thankfully Feyre and Nesta volunteered to help you, otherwise you wouldnât have made it. You were so lucky that Nesta preferred the bookstore you worked at, because if she didnât you wouldnât have met the inner circle, they wouldnât become your family too and most importantly you wouldnât have met him. The night courtâs shadowsinger-your mate. Technically he wasnât your mate-mate yet if thatâs a thing, but you were making progress. You knew you had to accept him as your mate but with everything going on -the recent war, the reconstruction of Velaris and his missions- it was nearly impossible to find a free day -or several (wink wink)- for the mating ceremony. You still had no clue how you would accept him but the idea of asking anyone filled you with embarrassment. You are a fae for crying out loud shouldnât you know this already?
You and Feyre were preparing the meals, everything was perfect until you noticed that you both forgot about Azrielâs request; apple pie. You whipped your head in Feyreâs direction to inform her, but she was gone, probably bickering with Nesta for something irrelevant. You shook your head and started making the apple pie. You knew that the house was enchanted, and it could make the food -weird- yet you wanted the dinner to be special and full of love thus you made all the food.
Everything was set and by the beating sound of wings you knew that Cassian, Azriel and Rhysand were approaching the house. You took your apron off and headed to the balcony. Just a moment before the males landed, black smoke filled the air and Mor, Elain and Amren fell into the balcony. You laughed at their panting knowing that they were probably racing the boys here.
Strong arms engulfed you from behind and the musky scent of cedar and whiskey had you shivering. His face rested in your neck where he left a soft kiss.
âHello angelâ his voice melodic and soft like the finest velvet.
You just leaned back enjoying his Illyrian warmth and closing your eyes.
âEnough Iâm starvingâ Cassian exclaimed earning a growl from your mate.
Soon everyone was devouring your food, complimenting you. After everyone was finished, you and Feyre walked back inside to get the desserts, you picked a plate and filled it with apple pie keeping the rest in the kitchen in case Azriel wanted more, after all you made it for him. As soon as Feyre had moved the desserts to the table you picked the plate and walked back outside, taking a seat next to Azriel you placed it in front of him without interrupting his conversation with Rhysand. He was briefing him about his last mission, so lost in the discussion that he didnât notice your movement. Cassian did though and leaned back in his chair a smirk forming on his face. You lifted your eyebrow and he just shrugged pulling his gaze from you.
Azriel stopped talking and picked up his fork taking a piece of the apple pie, he chewed and a low moan left his mouth.
âThis is amazingâ he said, already picking a second piece.
âReally? I made it for youâ you smiled excitedly.
Silence.
Everyoneâs head whipped towards you. Azriel gulped, his eyes wide.
âWhat?â You asked. Fear filled your body.
Rhysand was standing up slowly as to not provoke the shadowsinger.
âY/n donât you know that this is how you accept the mating bond?â Feyre spoke her gaze fixed on Azriel. You gave her a confused look. âOffering food.â She specified.
âBut we made all the food and weâve done it again beforeâ your voice barely above a whisper.
âDid you make the apple pie specifically for Azriel?â Cassian asked the smirk never leaving his face and his eyes filled with amusement. He knew.
You nodded.
âThere you have it. You just accepted the bond and sent your mate into a sexual frenzyâ he boomed. Your jaw almost touched the ground.
âYou saw me leaving the plate thereâŚyou knew⌠why didnât you tell me?â You shouted.
âI wouldnât be able to enjoy thisâ he leaned back more and placed his hands behind his head.
Your gaze turned to Azriel who was shaking and then you felt it too. Every feeling was million times stronger, his scent filling all of your senses making you clench your thighs, a faint smell of your arousal leaving your body.
Azriel lifted his gaze on you, his eyes filled with darkness and dominance.
âDo you want this?â His voice feral and possessive.
âYesâ you breathed.
In an instant you were in his arms, his wings flaring behind him.
âDonât come to the cabinâ he growled to the others and with that you were on the sky, a yelp leaving your lips.
He glanced at you and then you decided.
This was the best mistake youâve ever made.

Words on Paper
Based on this request.
Pairing: Azriel x Fem!Reader
Summary: Azrielâs jealous over a male in your book and itâs hilarious.
Warnings: Just fluff, short Drabble :)
1k words
You and Nesta hadn't shut up about the men in your books all morning. The new Sellyn Drake novel had come out less than a week ago and the both of you couldn't stop raving about it, you swore you had dreams about the characters, and when you weren't caught up in the plot you were analyzing the characters, the male love interest specifically who Nesta and you were all but frothing at the mouth over.
"I need him, unfortunately," Nesta sighed, looking over to me as we held our planks. Valkyrie training seemed to go a lot faster when the both of you got the chance to debrief over chapters and share what you were passionate about, Cassian didn't seem to care as long as we stayed on task and kept up with the movements.
The exercises had become second nature to the both of you, sure it wasn't as mindless as breathing but after it's been part of your routine for weeks it truly does come naturally, like a second language that only the two of you can speak.
Azriel was slow to insanity at this point. He couldn't seem to adjust to the idea of you taking interest in anyone but him. With Mates, the rule is that if the bond is accepted then there's no one else for that person, intertwined by fate.
So why was he so irritated when you rambled too long about a guy from a book?
"Are you two working out your mouths too?" Azriel stands above you, arms crossed over his chest. Slowly, you look up at him with a wide grin. "Sorry, sir," you tease. Nesta shakes her head in exasperation and you giggle.
It took one minute of silence until Nesta and you were whispering amongst each other again.
Azriel seems to have given up days ago, his eyes narrowed at you from across the sparring mats, Cassian next to him as they drink their waters.
âDoesnât it bother you?â Azriel asks his brother, continuing to stare at both of their mates. âDoes what?â Cassian turned to him with an arched brow. âThat theyâre so obsessed with those men from their little smut novels,â Azriel mutters and Cassian nearly laughs at the death glare the Shadow Singer was saving for the fictional male, who as of late was threatening to take his wife away.
âItâs just words on paper,â Cass shrugs, bending down to place his water on the ground. âI know but, the idea of her wanting anyone else gets under my skin,â Azriel argues and this time Cassian does laugh, it was so odd to see the revered Spymaster so torn up about some guy, who wasnât even real. âWhatâre you jealous of him?â Cassian scoffs through his laughter. Azriel rolls his eyes and puts his water down. âWhatever, just donât come crying when you canât satisfy Nesta anymore,â He grumbled.
âI doubt that day will come,â Nesta hums from behind the Shadow Singer. He knew she was there, you with her, but he needed to get his point across. âHey hun, you ready to go?â You dip under his arm, placing a hand on his bare chest. He only nodded in reply.
âHey, remember what I said, itâs just words Az,â Cassian said before you got the chance to winnow him away, he nodded once more then you took him home.
You didnât want to know what the General was going on about, you could tell from training Azriel was a little irritated but you couldnât remember doing anything to irk him.
âYou gonna tell me whatâs wrong or just keep pouting like a baby?â You ask and he scowls down at you. You smile, hands coming to his jaw and pressing a soft kiss to his lips, he barely has time to reciprocate it before youâre pulling away.
âWhatâs got you so tense?â You smush his cheeks together and he just stares at you in reply, so you begin to guess. âSomething Cass did?â You ask and he shakes his head no. âSomething I did?â He doesnât move and you deflate, flinging your arms over his shoulders and melting into him. âCanât you just tell me whatâs wrong, please?â You sigh into his neck, already admitting defeat. âDo you like him more than me?â He blurts and you stiffen, pulling away to look up at him confused. âLike who?â You utter. âThe guy in your stupid book,â He grumbled and you openly cackled before slapping a hand over your lips. âItâs not funny,â He groans backing away from your touch and plopping down onto the sofa, where he could sulk in peace. âI know, Iâm sorry Az,â You say, taking deep breaths to control your giggles. âIâm just saying, what does he have that I donât?â He frowns and you walk over to him, sprawling over his lap and straddling his hips. âPerhaps a control on his emotions?â You tease and he grumbles beneath his breath like a child, looking away from you.
It was true that Azriel was quite explosive. One would think heâd be less reactive as the Spymaster and yet he mightâve been the quickest to action out of all the inner circle. It was a weakness, something he was working on. It was rude of you to point it out but you make up for it by peppering a line of loving kisses up the side of his face.
âI love you, okay? Only you,â You reassure. âThose men, theyâre meant to be thirsted over, you understand that donât you?â You ask and the male nods. âI just donât want you wanting anyone else,â He looks at me and my grin widens. âAwh, Az,â You wrap your arms around him and squeeze him tight. âIâm all yours, donât worry,â You muffle into his neck. âYeah? All mine?â He asks and you nod rapidly before saying, âPromise,â
âNow stop acting like a big baby,â you pull away from the hug and hold his face in your hands. âIâm gonna go bathe, you gonna keep moping out here or do you wanna join me?â You tease. He doesnât answer and instead picks you up from where you sit and walks you straight to the bathing chambers.

The Story of Us
Summary - After Nyx is given a school project on his family, the Inner Circles Quad is stuck trying to explain their love life to their nephew.
Prompt Day 1 - Beginnings
Warnings - Nyx is smart and sassy, flashbacks, kind of forced mating bond, jealousy and fighting, rough patches before a happy ending, slightly implied smut
A/n - Happy @polyacotarweek
This is based on one of my friends having to explain this similar situation to her daughters. We, as a society, could do so much for eliminating stereotypes in the poly community if we openly discussed it and normalized it with kids. Her daughters have been raised in a household with a Quad and see the love their parents share as completely normal, and isn't that such a beautiful thing? To be able to freely love without judgement.
Peep the Poly+Acotarweek Masterlist here
Nyx blinked so innocently at you. His tiny fist gripped his pencil as he mimicked your blinking, waiting for you, Azriel, Nesta, or Cassian to answer him. Rhys and Feyre stood behind him with shit eating grins, waiting for how you all would respond.
The heir stared mainly at you, his damn near mirror image, as you looked up at your older brother Rhys and then back down to your nephew. âAuntie Y/n, I need to know! It's for school,â his little face pouted, and all eyes landed on you.
You sighed, leaning your elbows top your knees. âWell, baby, I don't know how to explain or where you want me to start.âÂ
Nyx huffed, looking at you like you were stupid and making Rhys further chuckle. âI know you sleep with Uncle Cassian,â the mentioned male spit out his water, praying their nephew simply meant sharing a bed and not other activities. âAnd Auntie Ness,â Nesta held no reaction, not even an ounce of shame. âAnd Uncle Azzy.â Azriel looked away, scratching his jaw line. âAnd last weekend when I came up to surprise you, all four of you were in one bed and Uncle Cass made me wait before I could snuggle, and daddy only makes me do that when he and mommy -"
Rhys covered Nyx's mouth, his own face flushed as Feyre's ears turned pink. âWhat he wants to know is how to explain the dynamic.â Since you know for our kind this is not normal, Rhys said gently into your mind. A three-way bond is rare. A 4-way bond is unheard of.
Azriel spoke softly. âWe all love each other, Nyx,â he said it like it was the easiest thing to explain to a child with parents who enjoy their monogamous marriage and traditional mating bond, as if Nyx would just understand. âWe all love each other so much, and we all enjoy being together. All the time.â
Nyx rolled his eyes. âI know. But how?â He waited again, brows raised and a small pout growing in his face.
Cassian smiled nodding to you. âYou tell him, princess.âÂ
You looked at Az, the smile on his face told every single emotion he had. âA long long loooooong time ago,â Nyx giggled as you held the vowel, âYour daddy and Uncle Cass brought home this weird,â a soft watch it came from beside you, âbut kind of cute Illyrian, and I had my first crush.â
The quiet male standing behind Rhys and Cassian rocked back and forth on his feet as you looked at him. He was beautiful, all be it, awkward, but still beautiful. âSis, meet Azriel,â you waved from behind your mother's leg. âHe's going to live with us.â
âThird brother!â Cassian threw his arms up, yelling and then hugging the male with scarred hands and damaged wings tightly.
âBrother!â Rhys then also went in to hug him, rambling about all the cool things they'd be doing together. Hazel eyes met yours, and plush lips mouthed, âHelp me.â
You smiled softly at him, offering him a hand and pulling him away from the idiots around you two. "Do you like chocolate?" He nodded at you, a soft smile tugging at his lips before it disappeared. "Good."
âThey were inseparable after that,â Cassian grumbled. His tone was filled with old aching jealousy. âUnless Azriel was training or agreed to hang out with us. He was with y/n.â
The sparkle in Nyx's eye as he looked at where you and Azriel sat, lost to all of them as the male kissed your knuckles made Cassian's heart skip. âDid they know they were mates?â
âNo,â Cassian was soft now. âThat happened under different circumstances.â
"I've apologized many times, Cassian." Azriel stared towards the larger male. "Will you ever actually forgive us?"
"It's not you two I still hold anger towards."
Cassian had you alone. Finally alone.
You had been courting for months now, but every date always had at least one tag along. The kiss you two were in was frantic and heated as he held you against the wall. His teeth pulled at your bottom lip, smirking as you gasped softly and gave him more access to you. His lips moved to your neck, pulling the dress you had worn out of the way.
Cassian shivered as you whispered his name. Loving how he could reduce his educated little princess to nothing more than a girl desperate for his touch. You both jumped as the door slammed shut, two arguing voices carrying through the house. âY/n!â You sighed as Cassian's grip grew tighter. âCass!â
Azriel walked in seconds later, eyes going wide as he stood there in shock. It took him a moment, composing himself the best he could while looking just at you. âYour father is here. He will be coming to the house any second now.âAzriel's mind was slowly becoming a storm as he walked away. Allowing you to compose yourself before your father came and demanded dinner with his son, daughter, and their tagalongs. Your mother was trapped in Velaris heavily pregnant, unable to help you all, to help him. Of all the times for a bond to snap, it had to be while your legs were wrapped around Cassian, delicate fingers threaded through his hair.Â
You were downstairs, setting the table quickly. Silently grateful you had planned to cook enough for a small army to ensure there was food for Rhys and Azriel. You felt him long before he spoke. That dominating presence just sucking the life and air from the happy cabin.
âAh, little star,â soft hands held your jaw from behind. âYou smell..â His nose was in your hair as your eyes shut, sniffing it deeply to place whatever scent he had caught. âInteresting. We will discuss you degrading yourself late." A pointed look when Rhysand's way, causing your older brother to flinch internally before shielding Cassian from any attacks. "Serve dinner, y/n. We have much to discuss.â
âSo grandpa made Auntie serve Uncle Az dinner? And Auntie was dating Uncle Cass?â
Rhys nodded from the spot he had now taken next to Nyx. âYes.â
âBut that meant her and Uncle Az were married now.â You all couldn't help but smile at Nyx's innocence of what had happened that night. âBut that's not fair.âÂ
âNo buddy, it wasn't,â Cassian looked at you and Azriel. âIt took us a while to be friends again.â
"But again," Azriel waited until Nyx looked to him. "We love each other. So we wanted to become friends again."
âWhat made you two friends?â
The question caused silence to hang in the air as you suddenly moved close into Nesta, seeking her comfort to stop you from crying. Azriel took a deep breath, âWe lost some people, and Uncle Cass saved Auntie Y/n.â
"Like a knight saving a princess!"
Cassian scented your blood as the warriors ran to where the reports of a disturbance came from. It mixed heavily with the scent of soil, of your mother's blood, of little Stelâs blood.
He felt a weird pulling. As if something was desperately clawing at his chest, begging him to find you, and when he did, he went silent.Â
You were unconscious on the ground, wings carved from your back, bruising everywhere. He flew you to your father, growling as healers ripped you from his arms. âHow did you find her before I did?â Azriel's eyes were cold, staring at him from across the room.
âShe called for me.â Cassian refused to leave your side as you healed. He was the first to hold you when you woke up, the one to teach you how to walk again. As much as it had irritated Azriel, the shadowsinger felt it, too. A strained pull bringing the three of you together. Binding your lives and very souls.
âSo the three of you all dated?âÂ
âYeah,â Azriel leaned forward, reading Nyx carefully. âAnd you know how Auntie Ness got involved. Does it bother you?â
A little lip trembled. âIf you all love each other, how can you love me?âÂ
Nesta was to him instantly. Cradling her little life line so tight. âIt's different, baby. But there's so much love for you. All the love for you. We'd all do anything for you, Nyx. We all love you so so much."
You moved by him, too, kissing a small hand. "Some people have so much love to give that their hearts overflow, Nyx. Trust us, we love you as much, if not almost more, than we love each other." You kissed his palm again. "But that doesn't answer the question, baby. Does it bother you that we all are married?"
Nyx thought for a while, young eyes filled with so much hope and knowledge studying each of you. "No. It's my favorite."
Silence fell between the 4 of you that night. âDo you think he understands?â You were the first to break the quiet. âDo we need to stop until he gets it?â
âIf we don't raise him with this being the norm, he will never see it as a norm,â Cassian sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair. âHe needs to grow up knowing it's normal for some people to love more than one person like this. Not everyone has one love of their life, y/n. Some of us get the honor of falling in love over and over again."
âI've never heard the full story.â Nesta moved next to Azriel. âOf how you three began. I have a feeling you left details out.âÂ
You answered plainly. âSeveral fights. Verbal and physical. A lot crying. A lot of sex. Rhys yelled a lot. Like. More than he ever has at you. I got locked in the Palace by father at one point."
âSo what was the final decision? What made two three?â
Cassian, you, and Azriel all smiled. âThe first Solstice with Rhys trapped Under the Mountain.â
You refused to leave bed. Refused to eat. You refused to so much as even think about solstice without your brother.Â
It felt wrong.
Like you were playing this role of someone you were never meant to play. You stayed in his room, Azriel, Cassian, Mor, and Amren long forgotten. You had not spoken with your mates since Rhys left your head, whispering soft words of how much you mean to him, of how his greatest joy in life was being your big brother.Â
You didn't even respond as the door opened and the bed dipped in two places. âWe miss him too,â Cassian moved his hand to find yours under the blanket. âWe tried having a snowball fight, but it just didn't feel right.â
Azriel hummed from where he had moved to lay behind you. âNot just because Rhysand is missing, but our girl wasn't there cheering us on from the sidelines.âÂ
âI'm sorry-â
âDo not apologize, princess.â Cassian laid next to you then, too. âIf this is where you'd like to be today, we need to be good mates and be here, too.âÂ
Azriel's lips pressed softly on your shoulder. âWe were hoping Solstice would be extra special this year. Cassian and I have talked a lot, and we both think there's enough love inside of all of us to make this work.â
Your eyes lit up instantly. âReally?â
Cassian nodded. âI loved you long before he came into the picture, and I've realized slowly how much I love him as well.â
âAnd I feel the same,â Azriel moved a hand to rest above yours and Cassian's. âAnd I know you do, starlight.âÂ
âSo this is my solstice present? No more fighting?âÂ
âNo more fighting,â they confirmed together.
âRhys would be so happy. I wish he was here.â
The two males shared a look. One sparing glance. Azriel brushed soft onyx colored hair from your face. "We do too. Do you know what Rhys would have liked for Solstice?"
Cassian kissed your shoulder, finishing Azriel's thought. "You to eat something."
âAnd then 50 years later you came,â you smiled so softly. âAnd you shook everything I'd ever thought about myself.â
Nesta's face flushed. âWas I?â
âMy first and last time with a female.â
âOh,â Nesta's hands played with the hem of her dress. âWhen I was human, I never imagined this. The first time I saw the first of you together, I didn't know what to think.â
Cassian smiled, âWe're a lot.â
âIt wasn't that. I.. Deep down I wanted to be a part of it from the first dinner. It was like-â
âYou found home?â Azriel ran a finger down her cheek. âYou sure as fuck fought it, Ness.â
âBecause it was scary. Loving so many people so deeply is terrifying.â
âAnd magical.âÂ
She looked at you, and nodded to confirm. âBeyond magical.â
âYes. It is.â
Cassian smacked your ass slightly before standing. âRhys said Nyx is going to say we all just live together and love each other a lot and he likes it.â
Azriel stood behind him. âSeparate beds tonight or one?â
âOne,â the general answered with a shrug. âWe will see you two in bed.â
You both wished them goodnight as Nesta smiled softly into the fire. You leaned to her, holding those perfect manicured hands. She smiled before laughing out a soft what. âI know it's still strange for you, but it's amazing how much room we all truly have for people in our hearts, if we're brave enough to allow them in.âÂ
âSometimes my heart is so full, I just worry I will wake up and it's all been a lie.â
âNever, Ness. I have you. You have me. We have them. They have us, and the beautiful thing is that love flows freely. And it always will, so long as you wish for it to.â
âI love you, y/n.â
âAnd I love you, Nesta. Let's go to bed and hope our nephew doesn't make us look like heathens.â
âThere's no one else I'd rather be a heathen with,â soft lips met yours before resting a forehead against yours. âYou were my favorite to fall in love with. You know that?â
âReally?â The oldest Archeron nodded. âTell me our story from your eyes someday?â
âI will.â

Rainy Season - Part 4
All You Ever
Azriel reflects on his past mistake including the night with Elain. Cassian makes a huge mistake.
A/N: Before reading this chapter please know that I am not condoning cheating or the actions of Azriel or Elain. I do not feel sorry for either of them in any way. I simply enjoy adding a little complexity to the story and selfishly love sprinkling in chaos. Also this is not proofread, Iâm exhausted.
And for cauldronâs sake, please just trust the process before yelling at me!!! This is just one chapter from the two biggest idiots involved, not the whole story.
Part 3 Part 5
Warnings: Not proofread, Alcohol, Language, Unintentional ingestion of an aphrodisiac leading to sex
Azriel
He may have been a fucking idiot but Azrielâs self-awareness was painfully acute. His scar riddled hands were forever tainted with the essence of blood that even her plush lips couldnât kiss away, his angel mate. What a cruel joke the cauldron had played the day that bond snapped between them. She was resplendent in sun shrouded glory and he was the devil who dragged her down. Just selfish enough to ignore the warning bells that heâd one day fuck it all up, just selfish enough to pull her away from her home and covet her within the walls of Velaris. In the beginning, heâd fought so hard to deserve her though sheâd never asked him to. She wanted only him and knew he was unworthy of her, he always had been. It was exhausting - the mask. Constantly trying to hide from her that dark, sadistic side of him that was everything opposite of what she was.
She saw through it, of course. She always had. All she wanted was him, all of him. Begging him to show her beyond the good of him at surface level, she wanted all of his self-proclaimed bad too. Sheâd told him that dozens of times over the years but dropping that mask meant unpacking so much - so much more ugly than even he was prepared to reveal to himself.
At some point he began to resent her and he knew it wasnât fair. He resented his perfect, pure, untainted mate. Wasnât it ironic that sheâd shown him everything beneath her own surface numerous times, unveiled that she herself was not the Angel he placed her on a pedestal as. Sheâd shown him everything and he still viewed her through that near-holy lense.
If only he could have put his stubbornness, his self-loathing aside and realized she would have done the same for him. It was too late for that now.
And now I'm without you, and it took distance to see that losing you, means losing everything
ââââ
Something had been wrong for a while. He ignored it assuming that perhaps it was a mental blockade erected by a combination of fatigue and work tensions. Heâd slowly distanced himself from his mate. He knew it hurt her, it hurt him too. His intentions were genuine, sparing her the pain of his own inner turmoil by distancing himself while he worked through it. He was simultaneously aware that he was a fucking bastard for doing so, she deserved an explanation but he couldnât give it to her yet. He justified it as the lesser of two evils.
Unsurprisingly, the mating bond is a fickle thing. As he distanced himself, a chasm of emptiness opened within him that heâd desperately tried to fill with missions and various courtly duties. Training with the Valkyries helped, being there for Elain through her own strugglesâŚ.
He took his duty to help her seriously, though it technically was not a duty even assigned to him. A distraction. It was a distraction. Ever the spymaster he spent their initial time together observing her, the things that brought a little bit of life back to those once bright eyes.
Heâd sun his wings while she gardened and read across from her in the study, little things so sheâd know she wasnât alone. Eventually she began talking again. At first just a comment here or there but then there was communication, getting to know each other, small talk eventually becoming deeper topics. He learned of her resentment of the choice she felt was ripped from her, left with no time to mourn the loss of her mortal life or consider the implications on her relationship with Graysen because of it.
Not to mention the shock that one of the faces she blamed for being damned to the cauldron, one of the first faces she saw coming out of it was her mate and she was just supposed to accept it? Over time, Elain became a friend. A bright spot to the numbness created by the self-imposed gap between he and his mate. His mateâŚ.
It had taken some time to realize that he wasnât feeling her through the bond, when was the last time heâd felt her? It was becoming fainter and fainter, more faint than it even should be with distance. Heâd send feelings to her on occasion. A little spark of joy when he saw a lovely sunset or the moments when his desire for his mate heated his blood so thoroughly he had no choice but to excuse himself for relief by his hand.
He needed her to know he cared, he desired her, he loved her. A little time and space to collect everything he needed to bring to the surface, to give her all of him. He left her feeling like she wasnât enough but she was everything. He just needed space.
Until she gave him space.
The devastation on her face the day she asked him to leave. Gods, damn him and the hurtful things heâd said. Theyâd be ingrained in his mind for the rest of his days along with the sound of her sobs as she fell apart before him. Heâd done that to his mate. He was responsible for those tears. All because heâd been too selfish and prideful to share all of himself with her.
So, he left. Sheâd allowed him so much space, he could give her this.
I wish I could love you and make you believe it. Itâs all you ever wanted from me
âââ-
The night with Elain
He couldnât make it through dinner sober. Rhys insisted everyone get together at the River House for a friendly night of debauchery. Pouring himself a double shot of whiskey, he considered telling Cassian to send Rhys his regards and hole up in the house of wind for the remainder of the night. It was either, go to dinner and deal with all of the questions of âWhere is y/n?â and âWhy isnât y/n here?â or deal with Cassianâs well-intentioned but annoying attempts of pressuring him into going, followed by a pout when heâd stand his ground on staying in, and then the inevitable intrusion from Rhys inquiring why he wouldnât come to dinner.
He loved his chosen family dearly but they were busybodies through and through. All he wanted was to pass the time until he saw his mate tomorrow.
Begrudgingly he threw back his glass, poured another double, then headed to the River House.
Time moved slowly when all there was to do was dwell.
What had happened? He flew slowly to the River House. Going out of his way to circle far overhead of his true home, where his mate was. Was she waiting for him inside? Was she in town? Why couldnât he feel her? Silence. Just as it had been for months. But the emotions heâd seen in her, they were so real. Shouldnât they have sparked something in the bond?
As Azriel approached the River House heâd come to the conclusion that tonight heâd inform Elain heâd no longer be able to visit with her as he had been. Heâd neglected his mate for far too long, this past week had given him the clarity needed to go home and give his mate his all. He could slowly open up to her, he could do it.
He just needed to make it through the night.
The night went by as usual. Good food, laughter, flowing liquor. He heavily indulged himself in the liquor anything to numb the impatience in waiting for tomorrow.
Feyre and Rhys sat closely together on a lounge, Feyre leaning into him, staring up at him like the stars in the sky.
Cassian and Nesta spent the entire time making bedroom eyes at one another, Cassian whispering dirty promises into Nestaâs ear that made even the queen of smut herself blush, Nesta taking any opportunity to brush her body against his in passing.
Gods, they were so in love it made him sick.
âHome.â He told himself.
âSoon.â
As the evening wound down, Cassian insisted everyone do shots to close out the evening. He was drunk enough that he stumbled carrying in the tray of shots and let out a battle cry of victory over the fact that he managed to not spill any of the liquor.
Azriel should have flown back to the House of Wind a while ago but he needed to talk to Elain.
Nuala and Cerridwen had been on duty with Nyx for the evening, compensated well to work overnight in case he awoke, giving Rhys and Feyre the now rare opportunity to go out to Ritaâs. Mor, of course, drug Emerie along and went with them. Given that Amren would rather stick pins in her eyes than go out, she and Varian opted to go back to her place.
Azriel should have gone there, gone back to the River House, gone home and slept in the doorway until his mate let him in.
But he was so drunk. There was no way he was flying anywhere tonight.
Cassian and Nesta brought out a final round of shots. Elain winced, scrunching her nose as she threw it back. Azriel thought sheâd be able to take her liquor better by now. Cassian and Nesta waggled their eyebrows suggestively at eachother before throwing theirs back. And damn, if Azriel didnât wince when he took his shot too. That shit was awful. Had they drank through all of Rhysandâs good liquor? Did Cassian dig this out from the bottom shelf?
Once Cassian and Nesta left for the House of Wind, Azriel took the empty glasses to the kitchen, cleaning up a few of the remaining dishes throughout the seating area on the way. He barely made it into the kitchen before his head began spinning. That last shot had done him in. He couldnât even remember the time last heâd been blackout drunk. Two centuries ago, maybe?
He still needed to find Elain.
The stairs felt longer and far less steady than usual, taking him more time than he cared to admit to make it up them. His hands felt tingly on the banister and damn, it was hot in the River House. No, he touched his face, flushed and hot to the touch. He was hot.
The tingling was simultaneously uncomfortable and pleasurable, spreading over his body with haste as he neared closer to Elainâs room.
He caught a glimpse of her and her scent hit him like a ton of bricks. Had she always smelled this good?
His breathing increased, nostrils flaring as he took in her scent and fuck - he was hard. It was too late to not say anything now as she stared at him expectantly. The stars in his vision cleared and all he could see was her, zeroed in on her fluttering pulse, those delicate features.
He needed to leave.
He just needed to - shit, what had he come here to say?
Azrielâs shadows whirled reminding him of his mate. His mate. He needed to go to his mate.
He needed to tell Elain something. He couldnât think straight.
âElainâŚâ
And that was when she lunged at him.
Well is it too late, and are you too far to turn around and let me be
ââââââââââ
Elain
There was nothing the Cauldron loved more than Elain Archeron.
There was nothing the Cauldron hated more than Elain Archeron.
A thin line between the two, really.
Sheâd spend the rest of her life groveling for what conspired on that night. She never intended to sleep with him. She never, ever intended to hurt Y/N.
She remembered drinking more than usual.
She remembered Azriel finding her in the hallway.
She remembered a sudden rush of warmth, first from her chest, seeping outward through her extremities, low into her stomach and lower, lower.
She remembered Azriel having something important to tell her. She could feel nothing but heat. Her heart racing, breath becoming rapid.
Azrielâs pupils were blown wide, his nostrils flaring. Like every single sense was hyper aware of her state. His arousal wafted through the air, his irresistible cedar and chilled mist scent clinging to her like an expensive cologne.
They were so very intoxicated.
They couldnât do this. If sheâd been sober and unaffected by whatever was running through her veins, she would have left. Immediately.
She wasnât one to wreck a home and Azriel loved his mate so, so much. The way he talked about her, it made Elain jealous. Not of them, not of her. Only jealous that Elain herself had struggled so hard to feel anything toward her own mate for so long. Lucien who played a role in her loss of humanity, Lucien who would do anything to make it up to her, Lucien who never meant for it to happen, who tried so hard to help her, to connect with her, who wanted nothing more than to love her. Lucien.
Then why was it Azriel? Azriel who was standing in front of her clearly affected by her, trying his damndest not to be. Why was she so drawn to him? A mated male.
Was she sweating? It was so hot. Her breasts ached and her blood thrummed through her veins so voraciously that she was certain sheâd bleed out at any minute. And if Azriel could see beneath her gown right now, heâd see how tightly her thighs were squeezed together. How desperately she needed release and by the tightness in his pants - she knew he was in the same state.
âElainâŚâ Azriel spoke. His breath ragged.
And all it took was her name rolling off of his lips for her to close the distance. One kiss. She just needed one kiss to remind herself that this was wrong. To run the other way.
And it only took one kiss to remind her how much the cauldron loved her. How much it hated her.
The moment when she felt the mating bond snap between her and Azriel.
The alcohol, the liquor, the heat, the bond. A lethal combination leading to the biggest mistake of her life.
The night sheâd fucked Azriel.
She could never let him know about the bond.
âââââââââ-
Elain woke up with a brutal headache. She would have killed for some headache power. Her room was dark, shadows deepening the onyx black of night as slivers of moonlight lined the edges of her curtains. Still nighttime, then.
Her surroundings slowly came into focus, awareness sharpening as a soft sound caught her attention. Swiftly she turned her head to find Azriel asleep on the other side of her bed.
Oh no.
Oh no, no, no, no, no.
This couldnât have happened.
What had she done?
She threw on her dress and tip-toed out of the room in a state of panic. She was a sensible female. She knew too well the pain of losing Graysen, a human male, not her spouse, not her mate. But still, his rejection had hurt like hell. Elain would never sleep with another woman- femaleâs mate. No.
She paced through the library, back and forth, back and forth, praying she didnât wake anyone up. The walls were closing in on her. This couldnât be real. It couldnât be.
Oh gods.
And the mating bond. How?
Her chest was tight, she couldnât catch a full breath. She needed out.
Before she could stop herself, Elain fled into the empty street with no destination in mind. Anywhere but here, anywhere but the bed where sheâd likely obliterated a marriage. Sheâd certainly obliterated her dignity.
The starlight illuminated streets of Velaris were endless, winding through alleys and lanes. In her panicked state, Elain had no clue where her feet were taking her as she blindly followed her gut. It wasnât until she was in front of the door that she realized her heart had made its choice. It knew exactly who to go to, she only prayed it wasnât too late.
She took a shaky inhale and raised a hand to knock but the door flew open revealing a shirtless Lucien, his bare, muscled chest heaving. âI felt you coming.â He gasped. âThrough the bond.â
âââââ-
Azriel
The sunâs rays illuminated the edge of the curtains. Azrielâs stomach was tight, nausea from the previous nightâs alcohol overwhelming him. His bed felt colder than usual, more stiff.
He looked around to find that heâd never left the River House. He wasâŚ
He was in Elainâs room.
âOh, fuck!â He sobbed to himself as the previous night came pouring back to him. Setting his face in his palms, he cried. What the fuck had he done?
Azriel bathed, desperately scrubbing Elain off of him. By the time he was through, his skin was an angry red. He snuck out of the River House, flying to a grassy knoll high above Velaris. The spot where he and Y/N had first made love, where the bond snapped, where heâd proposed. He shifted uncomfortably as he tried to get comfortable, the unease settling in. It was blasphemy to desecrate such a sacred spot with his shame.
âWhat do I do now?â He asked aloud, the only response the whipping of the wind around him. He didnât understand what had overcome him. Heâd never been so âeffectedâ before, even in his drunkest moments. Once Elainâs lips met his, his brain had shut down, nothing else mattered but the feel of skin on skin. His body needed release and acted on pure primal instinct.
And now, he had a decision to make. He could go home and lay it all out, slightly easing the guilt of holding in his greatest sin while completely and utterly destroying his mate.
Or, he could go home. Show his mate all of the love that he had been withholding for too long now, sweep her off her feet, take care of her and start opening up. Give her his all, even the ugly parts that he kept so deeply hidden.
Gods, sheâd given him so many chances and heâd let her down at every turn. There were no excuses for the way he had treated her.
All sheâd ever wanted was him, all of him, including those sides heâd never wanted her to see.
Now he could only go home and love her. Love her with everything he had and pray she believed it.
âââââââ-
6 months after Y/N left
Azriel looked in a hallway mirror on his way to Rhysandâs study. Dark circles hallowed out his under eyes. The drink heâd had prior to flying down here did nothing to numb the violent ache within his heart. Would it ever quell? Would this puncture wound ever heal?
It wouldnât. And he didnât know if he wanted it to. He was a bastard and deserved every ounce of this isolated misery. Trapped in a prison of his own making. The ache in his chest a constant reminder of the love heâd squandered. And for what? A meaningless night with a pretty female. Had he not had enough of those nights in his life?
Not that Elain would speak to him. Though she had apologized, countless times. It didnât matter. As far as he was concerned, he was the only one to blame. Occasionally heâd catch Lucienâs assessing glare, an infuriating blend of contempt and pity etched into his features. Azriel didnât know which he hated more, he didnât deserve pity.
Azrielâs skin had sallowed. Had he ever been this pale before? And the bargain tattoo on his arm. Fuck, he hated it. After his third attempt to infiltrate the Summer Court, Rhysand gave Azriel the option of a cell in the Hewn City or a bargain.
Ironically the bargain served as a prison of its own. He was not allowed to go anywhere near the Summer Court or communicate with Y/N in any way. The only method of communication he was able to find a loophole with was the tugs on the bond. Heâd pull and pull, nothing.
If only he could try to explain, apologize, anything.
Breaking his gaze from the shell of a male in the mirror, Azriel stepped toward the study.
Cassianâs booming laugh barreled through the cracked open door.
âTrust me, Feyre will love it. Iâm sure you guys could use a little spark at the end of the day. Youâll be rolling in the sheets all night.â
Rhys only chuckled.
Cassian continued, âTastes nasty as hell though. Hereâs an extra vial, just in case. The first time Nes and I tried it, it didnât work. Not sure why.â
Azriel let out a huff, stepping into the study. Cassian and Rhys ceasing their conversation in his presence. Theyâd been painstakingly obvious in not talking about their mates or anything relationship related in front of him since his mate had left. He refused to speak to anyone about why she left, too embarrassed to admit to this bed of his own making. They knew it was his fault and that was all that mattered.
Azriel scowled. âYou donât have to stop talking about your mates just because Iâm around.â
Cassian awkwardly raised his arm, rubbing the back of his neck. âSorry brother. We just donât want to make things harder for you than they have been.â
âConsiderate.â Azriel sneered, jerking his head toward the vials. âWhat are those anyway?â
Cassian smirked, âOh, just some aphrodisiac potions from a new apothecary in Velaris. Really powerful shit. Nes and I-â Rhys elbowed Cassian. A warning to not take the conversation too far. They could talk of their happy relationships without absolutely rubbing Azrielâs face in it.
Cassian quieted for a moment before continuing. âIt tastes gods awful but the payoff is totally worth it. Remember those shots we took after everyone left dinner several months ago? We mixed it into Nes and Iâs glasses and didnât notice the taste. Didnât work either though. Mustâve been a dud. Lady at the shop gave us a replacement vial the next time we were in andâŚ. well, letâs just say we keep it in stock at the House of Wind now.â
Azriel went preternaturally still. His shadows growing angry as he ground out, âThe night you two did a parting shot with me and Elain?â
âUhâŚâŚ yeah?â Cassian replied.
And before Cassian could realize what heâd done, Azriel pummeled him. Hauling him out the study doors and onto the lawn, not even making it to the sparring ring before his fists met Cassianâs face - the two Illyrians disappearing into a frenzy of fists and feet and glowing siphons.
The only sound over the impact of their hits and feral growls was Cassianâs confused, booming voice. âWhat the FUCK, Az!?â
ââââââââââââââââ

A Song of Ice & Shadow
Part 1
A/N: Hello everyone! Iâm planning to write an Azriel x Archeron!half-sister reader series, possibly featuring a slow-burn romance and angst. I donât know how many parts itâs going to have. It begins in ACOMAF chapter 24.
A Song of Ice & Shadow masterlist
Summary: The eldest Archeron half-sister Y/n hates Fae kind, due to tragic past events. When she unexpectedly visits her sisters, she is met with the very race she hates.
Word count: 2.11K
Being the eldest sibling is not always easy. Y/n knew this firsthand, shouldering the weight of responsibility for her younger sisters from a young age. After their motherâs death, she made the difficult decision to leave her sisters behind and stay with her supposed biological father. It wasnât because she didnât share the same father as her sisters; in fact, he loved her like she was his own and never discriminated between them. For the first two years after their mothers death, she stayed with her family, but when her âfatherâ lost his fortune, she knew leaving was the only option. It wasnât just about lightening their burden by having one less mouth to feed; she also hoped by seeking out her biological father, she could find work and send money back to her family.
Surprisingly, her father welcomed her with open arms, a kindness that caught her off guard considering he had shown little interest in her when she was younger. Despite her initial skepticism, she didnât question his motives, fearing he might kick her out. With cleverness and fatherâs help, she managed to pursue higher education, while working to make ends meet. Though her earnings were modest, sheâd send whatever she could spare to her family, ensuring they had enough to survive. With Feyreâs help, there was always food on the table.
Y/nâs life was devoid of fun. Between studying, working, sleeping and occasional visits to her family, she had little time for socializing and friends. This isolation was entirely her choice; she distanced herself from others, earning a reputation as being cold, heartless, selfish, and arrogant to those who didnât know her well. Yet, beneath this exterior, she harbored a deep love for her sisters and would sacrifice anything for their well-being, despite no longer showing them affection after their motherâs death. They understood her silent expressions of care, recognizing that actions spoke louder than words.
One thing everyone knew for certain is that y/n was stubborn. She held fast to her beliefs and opinions, regardless of external influences. Among her sisters, Netsa was the most like her and the one who admired her the most. The two shared the closest bond before she left, but make no mistake, if anyone Nesta feared and obeyed, it was Y/n, knowing she was not one to be crossed.
After Feyre left the mortal realm, her familyâs fortune turned, and she finished her education. Consequently, her visits became less frequent, as she immersed herself into her work.
A smile appeared on y/nâs face at the thought of her sistersâ reactions to seeing her after a long time. She decided to surprise them with a spontaneous visit. Unbeknownst to her, another surprise awaited her inside the place she called home.
âNesta, Elain, Iâm home!â y/n announced as she opened the front door of their home.
âAre we expecting someone else?â Rhys whispered to Feyre.
âNesta, why didnât you tell me y/n was coming?â Feyre questioned, panic all over her face.
âI didnât know. She usually sends word before she comesâ Nesta claimed.
The conversation between the two sisters earned them a curious, yet worried look from the three males. Nesta stood from chair, hurrying to the door, but she was too late, y/n was now standing in the dining room, the smile dropping from her face and replaced by a shocked expression at the sight before her.
âWhat is going on?â y/n asked carefully and slowly.
âThese are Feyreâs friends. We were not expecting you todayâ Elain replied.
âY/n, itâs been a while. Iâm so happy to see youâ Feyre stood from her seat and hugged her sister, who was reluctant at first but returned the hug.
âYou brought Fae-kind into our home?â it was more of a rhetorical question, but Feyre answered anyway.
âY/n, this is Cassianâ she inclined her head to the male with long hair âAzrielâ she pointed to the male who y/n couldâve sworn was the most handsome man sheâs even laid eyes on âand Rhysand, high lord of the Night Courtâ Feyre finished introducing.
âItâs a pleasure to meet youâ Rhys said with a warm smile.
âIâm sureâ y/n sneered, returning her gaze on her sisters âyou still havenât told me whatâs going on and why the very same race we despise are now in our living room, dining with usâ y/n tried making sense of the situation.
Feyre explained the situation, why they were here, what they needed from the sisters and the threat posed by Hybern.
âSo the moment you became fae, you chose to forsake us?â this was all y/n could utter.
âIâd never do that. Me being fae doesnât change that. It never will. Youâll always be my sisterâ Feyre assured her.
âIf you did, you wouldnât have brought THEM here. Hatred aside, do you have any idea of the danger you just put Nesta and Elain in?â Y/n turned her hand into a fist, her knuckles as white as they could be, trying to keep her temper in check.
âThere was nowhere else to goâ Feyre claimed.
âAnd you were alright with this?â Y/n turned to face her other sisters.
âI wasnât, but Elain agreedâ Nesta informed her.
âFeyreâs right, there-â Cassian spoke.
âWho are you again?â Y/n glared at him âIâm too tired to deal with this nowâ she rubbed her temples and said to no one in specific âcall me when theyâre goneâ.
âUhm, theyâre-â before Nesta could finish the sentence, y/n was already gone â-going to stay for a whileâ she sighed.
âI take it, this is your eldest sisterâ Rhys asked.
âI told you she could be intenseâ Feyre replied.
âThatâs one word for itâ Cassian expressed and was met with a glare from Nesta.
â-
Thinking they had left, y/n descended the stairs, dressed in her nightgown and robe, seeking out a comforting cup of tea in the quiet atmosphere of midnight. Opening the backdoor leading to their garden, she leaned against the door frame, admiring the stars as she sipped her tea. She took a deep breath appreciating the tranquility and solitude the night provided. She couldâve sworn the shadows moved, but she dismissed it believing it was hallucinations caused by exhaustion from a long trip. Noticing a bright star in the sky, she lifted her cup up and uttered âcheersâ a sad smile appearing on her faceâŚ
As she was locking the door, she glimpsed a figure in the shadows. This time, unable to dismiss what she saw, she called out âwhoâs there?â.
At first there was no response but she called out again âI know thereâs someone here, so I suggest you come outâ she demanded.
Azriel hesitated but complied âI apologize, I did not mean to disturb youâ.
âWhat are you still doing here?â She covered herself with the robe, the gesture did not go unnoticed by Azriel.
âYour gracious sisters allowed us to stay here for a whileâ he informed her.
âHave they now?â she nodded, clearly displeased by the information she just received âhow long are you planning on staying here?â.
âNot long. As soon as the letter is delivered, weâll be out of your way, I give you my wordâ he politely said.
âYour word means nothing to me. And if youâre staying at someoneâs house, do not sneak up on themâ her words as cold as ice.
âI wasn-â before Azriel could explain, she had left, making his jaw clench in frustration.
The following day, she went downstairs earlier to get some breakfast, but what was early for her, was late for others. Upon entering the kitchen, she found Rhys and Feyre engaged in a conversation with Elain, while Nesta and Cassian bickered over their tea. Azriel was standing in the corner and when he saw her enter, his whole body tensed, and Cassian and Nesta went still
âGood morningâ Rhys greeted and was met with silence.
Y/n prepared her breakfast when Feyre approached her âhow did you sleep?â Y/n just stared at her sister without saying a word. Once she was done preparing her food, she took it and left without acknowledging anyoneâs existence. As Cassian and Nesta resumed their bickering, Azriel finally relaxed, prompting Rhys to speak again ânot a good morning, I guess?â He joked.
âOh believe me, this is a good morning. If you think this was something, then you really donât want to see her angryâ Feyre remarked.
âIs she always like this?â Cassian asked.
âGive her time. She doesnât like strangers and she most definitely hates Fae-kindâ Feyre reminded.
âYeah, that was clearâ Cassian said.
âYouâre talking about her like sheâs a bad personâ Nesta defended.
âNesta, you know thatâs not what I meantâ Feyre tried to explain.
âAll Iâve seen you do since you got here is criticizing y/n. Sheâs done nothing wrongâ Nesta reminded.
âIâm sorry, but you know how y/n can beâ.
âHow? All she did was ignore you all, instead of engaging in a pitty argument that would hit your weak spots, and last Iâve known, she does not owe any of you anything. If youâre going to stay in this house, then better respect their ownersâ Nesta expressed.
âNesta!â Elain said, clearly displeased with her sisterâs tone.
â-
âCan I come in?â Nesta asked permission to enter y/nâs room.
âWhat is it now?â Y/n opened the door.
âI wanted to spend some time with youâ
âDonât you have guests to entertain?â Y/n crossed her arms.
âElain and Feyre can deal with them. Iâd rather stay here with youâ.
âFiineâ y/n rolled her eyes but allowed her sister into her room.
âThey already have a bad impression of youâ Nesta told her.
âWhen did I ever care about what people thought of me? Let alone, what male Fae thought of meâ y/n chuckled âit bothered you, didnât it?â.
âOf course it did. I wouldnât allow anyone to speak badly of youâ.
âTheyâre just words spoken by irrelevant people. When you acknowledge their words, you make them relevant. Remember Nesta, you decide who you give power over youâ.
The next day, Feyre, Rhys and Azriel were absent from the kitchen when y/n arrived âoh, for fuckâs sake, how do you two find the energy to fight this early in the morning?â Y/n asked, clearly awoken by the sound of Cassian and Nesta arguing.
âItâs noonâ Cassian corrected.
âWhatever. If youâre gonna argue, do it outside. Hearing your voice gives me headachesâ y/n uttered.
âAnd here I thought my voice was soothingâ he sarcastically said.
âDonât. Just donât!â Cassianâs attempt at humor was met with y/nâs annoyance.
âRough night?â he asked.
âMore like a rough couple of days. Some people clearly donât know how to be good guestsâ Y/n started making herself a cup of coffee.
âWell, maybe thatâs because some people donât know how to be polite hostsâ he snickered.
âYou know what? Youâre not worth my time, if you want to argue, you have Nesta. She apparently has the patience for itâ.
âY/nâ Nesta called.
âWhat? You do love arguingâ y/n reminded.
âWow, the two of you in the same house as poor Elain and Feyre, how did they survive?â.
âBy knowing when to speak and when to shut upâ y/n glared at him, taking her coffee and leaving and he said something.
â-
âWhat now?â Y/n asked as Feyre called for her sisters âWe can leave soon to mail our letterâ informing them.
âAnd this concerns me how?â Y/n asked.
âI-I thought youâd like to go with usâ.
âWhy would I do that? No, thank youâ⌠âwasnât there one more of you?â Y/n asked, pretending to just have realized Azriel wasnât present.
âHe had to return early. We had an altercation this morningâ Feyre explained.
âAltercation?â Y/n narrowed her eyes,
âItâs nothingâ.
âIf youâre trying to hide it, then it is somethingâ.
âShe was attackedâ Rhys claimed.
âWhat? By whom? And you call THIS nothing?â Y/n started checking her sister for injuries and both malesâ eyes widened in surprise.
âIâm fine. Iâm not hurtâ.
âWho attacked you?â.
âItâs rather a what. She was attacked by a creature called the Attor who was sent by the king of Hybernâ Rhys informed her âdonât worry, Az is taking care of itâ.
To his surprise, she only nodded.
âI changed my mind. Iâm coming with youâ y/n announced.
âDonât tell me itâs because I was attackedâ Feyre smirked.
âOh, shut up!â Y/n nudged her with her shoulder.

Only a week had passed since the disastrous breakup between you and Azriel, and as it turns out, it was harder to get rid of him than youâd originally thought.
Beforehand, heâd always seemed so controlled and stoic, that even being one of the main problems in your relationship was that he couldnât ever let go of control. Being in charge meant he felt safe and secure, regardless of his feelings.
He had always seemed almost above you at times, above groveling and begging in bed, above communicating his feelings and emotions normally as he just expected you to read his mind or moods despite the way he hid any kernel of emotion from his body language. However, all of that seemed to have changed.
After the breakup, youâd gone back to working in the bakery, working specifically in the back making bread with your family, so you wouldnât have to see him when he came in, probably trying to hunt you down. The heat the ovens gave off also seemed to repel his shadows, for whatever reason, so they wouldnât spy on you any more than they already had. Though he had come asking for you before at the counter, your family had always shut him down. You felt bad about it for a second, but thinking back, you also didnât. Heâd chosen his words, and he was only sorry because you were his mate.
Youâd moved back into the family home for now, your relatives surrounding you in love and empathy, and plenty of righteous fury regarding Azriel, and even a few âI told you so.ââs from the older generations.
Nesta would come by to visit now and then, having tea with you and updating you on all the latest news and developments, if not just funny stories to bring your spirits up, such as Nyx swallowing an ancient coin that he got from Rhysâ desk, only to poop it out shiny and clean a few days later, or how Cassian got so drunk he jumped from the top of the townhouse into a nearby pool that belonged to a neighbor.
On the bad days, she would offer some quiet company, or even open up to you about similar things that happened to her in the past.
Specifically, her past relationship.
She didnât give a name, simply the details that he was a poor manâs family, his father abused his mother, and he was no better. She only was going to marry him to let Feyre take better care of Elain, really, even if it ended up with her getting beaten by some pathetic man. And then she told you of the night she rejected him, and tried to break it off, and how she almost barely got away before he could take what wasnât his.
You both sat in silence after that, your hand in hers.
Eventually, though, the conversation continued. You told her of the flowers that would mysteriously appear on your windowsill each morning. Neither of you knew how Azriel knew what room you occupied in your familyâs home, or even how he knew your address or favorite type of flower, Ditch Lilyâs, but he knew. Or the letters you received nightly, always carried by some bird of prey to your window, and would leave it there.
She snorted when you told her about the letters.
âHeâs being ridiculous, seriously, even Cassian isnât that bad. He only cares because youâre his mate, not because of who you actually are, and until he gets his shit together I wouldnât even open them.â
She said, taking a sip of the herbal tea your mother had prepared for both of you. It was a special recipe, one that some of your distant relatives in Autumn Court had created, originally meant to relieve muscle tension and stress from overuse of magic, and even assist in alleviating burnout. You were mildly convinced that there might be some healer blood in you, because of that half of the family.
You couldâve sworn you felt a tiny tug on the bond at the mention of Azriel.
âI know, Iâve just been burning them, but he wonât leave me alone. Every shadow feels like theyâre watching me now, and I justâŚâ
You sighed, trailing off as your hand went to rub the bridge of your nose, and she gave a hum of acknowledgment, finishing your sentence for you.
âDonât feel safe in the one place that you used to only feel safe in?â
You glanced up, eyes widening a bit. That was precisely how you felt.
âYes, how..?â
She took another sip of her tea, glancing over to the window and looking out of it, eyes almost glazing over as some memory mustâve come to light.
âBeneath the House of Wind is the library, though Iâm sure youâve already heard of it. The priestesses stayed there, and it was always quiet, and something about it made me feelâŚsafe, even when I was in an unfamiliar body in new surroundings, the world in the middle of a war.â
She said, and you nodded, waiting for her to go on. You knew plenty of the library beneath the House of Wind and how massive it was.
âOne night, me and Feyre both descended nearly to the bottom, for what I can barely remember, and there were two twin males. Sent by Hybern, I think. They were taken out before they could do any harm, but the damage was still done. It took me quite a while to think of the library as a safe space after that.â
The glaze in her eyes faded away as she took another sip of her tea, looking more relaxed than before. She looked over at you, her eyes meeting yours.
âHow did you get it back like that? A safe place, I mean.â
You then asked, and she looked away for a moment to think, a common habit of hers. One youâd noticed by now. Always noticing things, something you mustâve learned from Azriel, and as much as you hated the reminder of him, it was useful regardless.
âChanging environments helped me. During and after the war, we were always traveling a lot, which forced me to appreciate the thought of home more. Then again, home was also linked with Cassian for me.â
She said, thinking aloud before eventually speaking again.
âIâd try moving around a bit. Exercise helped me, especially travel and hiking, or breathing exercises. I could teach you a few if youâd like?â
She offered. You would be a fool to refuse any sort of advice or help from Nesta Archeron, and sheâd never led you astray before, so you nodded, and she smiled brightly, clearly happy to show you.
The next few hours were spent in the backyard on whatever flat surface there was, practicing impossibly stretched that seemed like whoever made them wanted to turn you into a pretzel. Nesta managed them just fine but didnât laugh when you fell, only helped you back up, telling you all about how when sheâd first started training with Cassian, it had been just as hard for her too.
Sheâd even outright refused to do it the first few times.
However, after that, she showed you cool-down exercises and helped you practice breathing techniques.
âWait, soâŚI hold it for how long?â
You asked, and she held back a giggle at the sheer confusion in your tone as she answered.
âTwenty seconds, but you can-â
âTWENTY??â
At that, she burst out laughing, and before you knew it you were laughing too, both of you laying back on the grass of the yard and hoping none of the seasonal bugs crawled up onto you. She finally sat up a moment later, wiping tears from her eyes as she stood and helped you up.
âBuild up from five, you can start at five seconds and build up, is what I was going to say.â
She said, and you sighed.
âAnd I thought I was in shape before.â
You said in an amused tone, and she snorted again, only for the both of you to look over where you heard another loud snort and see Cassian standing, leaning against a large tree in the backyard. He was grinning widely as ever, his eyes full of pure glee.
âHaving fun without me, ladies?â
He asked, putting a hand over his heart in a dramatic expression as he rolled his eyes, acting fatally wounded.
âHonestly, Iâm hurt-â
He wasnât able to finish his sentence before you barreled into him, giving him a tight hug that he chuckled at and returned, ruffling your hair. Nesta was soon to follow, and hugging him in a much more elegant manner than you.
When you finally separated, you spoke.
âGods, Iâve missed you. We should let him come to tea time, too, Nesta.â
You said with a grin, and Nesta rolled her eyes playfully, squeezing his bicep. A tiny twinge of jealousy seemed to echo down the bond, as if Azriel had seen you hugging Cassian, and didnât appreciate it. Another tug on the bond that you shut out, now hyper aware of any shadows.
âYouâd be surprised at how much of a gossip he is, itâs never-ending with the Devlon-rumors.â
She said, and his expression shifted to playfully offended as he swatted at Nestaâs hand. You giggled, and Nesta glanced over at you, before gaining a thoughtful expression.
âWe could do Ritaâs tonight if you could make it?â
She asked, and Cassian gave a little nod as if also agreeing with this. You didnât have any plans tonight, so why not spend a night out with your friends? It would certainly help you get your mind off of things.
âSure, what time?â
You asked, head cocked slightly to the side. Nesta shrugged.
âIs 6 good for you?â
She asked, and you nodded in confirmation. She gave you one last smile before Cassian scooped her up to fly away.
âSee you tonig-â
Her words were cut off with a little shriek as Cassian launched into the air at maximum speed just to spook her like he always did, and you giggled to yourself, heading back inside the family home. Unbeknownst to you, a shadowy figure lurked behind that tree after Cassian left, watching.
To be fair, the shifts were switched out now and then so everyone had a break, but he usually ended up babysitting. Despite his objections and complaints, he was good at it, sort of a baby-whisperer.
âWho was that pretty lady?â
He asked, a slight touch of color on his cheeks as you smirked with a knowing look.
âThat was my friend, Nesta. Sheâs taken.â
You clarified for him, noticing the way his face fell in disappointment all too clearly before you patted your baby cousin on the head, and walked up to your temporary room. Maybe Nestaâs idea of traveling a bit and exploring different places was good. You had all of immortality ahead of you, after all. Might as well use it well.
You walked to your room, before going to the bathroom attached to it. You were more than lucky to get a room with a bathroom attached, and you knew it, since everyone bickered over who got to shower first and who had been in there too long for the normal bathroom in the hall. Stripping your clothes off, you turned the water on, letting it settle to a warm, but refreshing temperature.
You went through your entire hair routine and washed your body off, shaving and everything. Tonight was an everything shower. You wanted to look your best at Ritaâs tonight, and you desperately needed a confidence boost after what Azriel had said to you.
Nearly half an hour later, your hair done all pretty, makeup on, and a pretty red dress gracing your form. Youâd even painted your nails yourself, forgoing the usual stylist you went to for it.
By the time 6 had rolled around, you were almost to Ritaâs, walking down the bustling streets of Velaris as the cool air blew by, the sun already beginning to set as early as it did in this season.
The moment you walked into the bar, already full of people, it only took a few seconds to spot Nesta and Cassian inside. Cassian was drinking and laughing his ass off with some other males, and doing arm wrestling that he never seemed to lose at, and Nesta was playing poker, and by the looks of it had already won a few games before based on the sly smile she wore.
You walked over and ordered your drink, nothing too strong, and decided that you could take a little time away from Nesta for now. You couldnât help but feel a little guilty, considering sheâd been listening to all of your problems every time sheâd come over. It was probably best if you gave her a little alone time for herself.
Walking over to a table to try your hand at what looked like a boring game of blackjack, you were about to sit down when something captured your attention.
A lone shadow lurking beneath your feet.
You swallow, getting a weird feeling about it, but you simply stomped one foot down on it before sitting down, determined not to let something so small ruin this night for you. The cards were dealt, and you received a queen of spades and eight of clubs, and as the game progressed, you took risks, choosing to hit, and somehow miraculously not going over 21 the entire time. You felt the lightest tug on the bond, but ignored it.
It was mildly suspicious, considering how bad you usually were at cards. That was until you spied the same wispy shadow from earlier on the deck of cards, hiding in the normal shadow of it. It was discreetly moving cards, changing them for you to win.
Now incredibly annoyed, you excused yourself from the game and walked to the bathroom. Ritaâs bathrooms werenât extremely clean, but you just needed a place to take a breather.
You pushed the door open, not surprised by the few females in here who were either redoing their makeup or drunk out of their minds and crying. Oddly enough, though, they filed out almost as soon as you entered, some giving you off looks as you entered one of the stalls, sliding the lock closed, and sat on top of the toilet seat, pulling your knees to your chest.
Sure, things were weird tonight, but it was probably just Azriel trying to play mind games with you. He was a Spymaster. His entire job revolves around torturing information out of people and playing mental gymnastics to get what he wants from them. You wouldnât be surprised if he was now hyper-fixated on you, determined to get you back if only to feel better about himself.
You heard the bathroom door open, barely creaking as the lightest footsteps became apparent to you. Probably another drunk woman, or someone looking to fix their makeup or outfit. Nothing out of the usual, you told yourself, even as your body began stiffening and your heart rate sped up. A lock clicked. The bathroom door.
You couldnât get a decent whiff of the stranger, whether it be the alcohol or the reek of the bathroom in and of itself. Not daring to open up the stall or peek out, you became still as a statue.
Nearly silent footsteps.
A knob creaked, probably the sink, and water began running at its maximum speed.
Another sink turned on.
Then another.
Until all the sinks were on.
Your heart began beating faster. Why would anyone turn all the sinks on, if not to cover up the noise of something else, or someone else making loud noises?
Louder, bolder footsteps in your stallâs direction.
Glancing down beneath the door, you could see a pair of thick, black leathery boots now standing in front of it. You recognized those. How could you not?
A certain shadowsingerâs shoes. His work shoes.
You didnât dare move, even as you heard a knock against the stall. It wouldâve seemed polite in any other situation, but not here, not now.
âI know youâre in there.â
His quiet voice spoke, still filled with that tension youâd seen in his eyes the day youâd decided to finally break free of him.
He knocked again.
âIâm sorry for what I said, I shouldnât have said that, if you would please, please, just give me another chance, Iâve been trying to talk with you for days but you were busy, and when I saw you here tonight, I thought that maybe we could talk this out-â
He said, voice filled with pleading and desperation as he rambled on. Youâd never heard him express so much emotion before in his voice. It was interrupted by the bathroom door almost being opened, despite it being locked. A bang on the door, and Nestaâs muffled voice was heard through the door.
âBullshit, Iâm getting a worker..â
Azriel mustâve known he had limited time now, because he banged on the stall door louder, a bit more panicked.
âPlease, just open the door. Iâm sorry, just let me in. We can figure this out.â
He said, now shaking the stall door with the handle, and you didnât dare move. Didnât speak, didnât do anything other than sit and pray to whatever gods you believed in. The Mother. The Cauldron. Anything. Whatever would make him go away. You had known the respectful, kind Azriel. The one that had waited centuries for Mor and not pushed anything, even when she openly went to other males and pushed him away. The one who wouldnât push any boundary, but this AzrielâŚyou didnât know him.
The jingling of keys outside the bathroom door was heard, the worker Nesta mustâve called, and a frustrated sigh came from the voice outside your stall.
You could almost see it now, him angrily running his hands through his inky black hair, shadows swirling and writhing in agitation as he tried to think on how to fix this.
âYou canât hide from me forever, youâre just confused right now. I will get you back.â
He spoke finally, before the bathroom door burst open, and his presence was completely gone. You released a shaky breath, not daring to move still, even as the worker cursed and began turning all the sinks off.
âHavenât seen it that jammed in a long time,â
She muttered, walking out eventually, you unlocked the stall door when you felt alone, only to swing it open and Nesta to pop into your vision. You almost screamed, jolting backward and slamming your head into a wall. She raised her hands in mock innocence.
âEasy, itâs just me. I figured you might be in here when I couldnât find you, andâŚ..â
She looked you up and down, noticing how shaken and pale you seemed, and frowned. Tilting her head sideways, she asked the obvious.
âWhatâs wrong with you?â
You looked all around the bathroom, finding no sign of him anywhere, no moving shadows or dark presences.
âHe was here, Nesta. He kept begging me to come out andâI donât know what he wouldâve done if you hadnât shown up.â
You said, tears welling up before falling as you began sobbing. She frowned deeper, now scowling as she pulled you against her chest, worry filling her expression.
âItâs alright, Iâll take you home.â
She said, helping walk you out of the bathroom, and as she passed by Cassian she grabbed the big Illyrian by the ear and dragged him out of the bar, outside with fresh air. Cassian immediately looked concerned, brows furrowed, but one look from Nesta was enough for him to nod grimly as his expression darkened, the two of them no doubt communicating mentally as most mates did.
He scooped the both of you up, and despite the alcohol in his system, managed a decent flight to your house. He gave you a pat on the head before Nesta walked you inside, and as soon as the two of you were in the privacy of your room, she spoke.
âLook, Iâll tell Rhys to keep an eye on him, but itâs not like Azriel will listen to anything Rhys orders him to do regardingâŚthis. JustâŚbe careful.â
She said in a hushed tone, and you nodded weakly.
âI canât stay here. Not when heâs..watching and following me.â
Nesta gave a little nod, as she understood, but she still looked concerned. She was friends with Azriel, you knew as much, but even this was pushing it.
âI have family in Autumn, I could go find them.â
You suggested, and she sighed.
âYou do realize he could just have one of his shadows follow you? Unless you left without telling anyone, thenâŚâ
The both of you shared a glance, and in a moment, understood what you needed to do to get away. A stalker problem wasnât one that you thought you would have, but Azriel was obsessive and possessive, even after youâd thrown out all the flowers heâd left, and burnt all the letters youâd given him. He wouldnât stop at anything, no matter what boundaries you tried to set.
You dragged the duffel bag out from under your bed, the same one you had used to pack your things the day youâd left and began shoving clothes into it, clothes that would suit a few days of travel in the wilderness. You nearly tore your dress off, shoving dark clothing that covered almost every bit of your skin.
If you headed through the main routes of the Court traveling system, Azriel could easily find you. The mating bond would only make it easier from there.
Nesta began helping, choosing clothes from your closet that she deemed acceptable and neatly arranging everything in the duffel bag.
âAre you going to tell your family?â
She asked quietly, and you sighed.
âMy grandmother, sheâd understand. She fled Autumn when she was younger, some long story about escaping a lover from the royal family.â
You said as you continued packing, and hurried down the stairs. Everyone was asleep this late, except for your grandmother for her nightly tea session. She was sitting in the living room, sipping away, and her eyes shifted to you. Despite her young form, her eyes were old and carried a wisdom you couldnât explain.
âGrandma, I canât explain, but-â
âYou need to leave, I understand. Under the stairs, there is food. I expected this. Find your great aunt in Autumn.â
That made you pause for a moment, eyes widening, a little twinkle in her eye, and a small mischievous smirk made its way onto her face as she saw your confusion.
âI am not nearly as oblivious as you think I am, now go. Time is of the essence.â
She said, making a little waving motion, and you hurried off to find the little place under the stairs, opening the tiny area beneath it through the small cabinet door, rations were stashed there just like sheâd said. You grabbed them, and hurried back up the stairs, and walking into your room you shoved it into the now-full duffle bag and zipped it up. Nesta gave you a confused look when she saw all the pre-prepared food you somehow had, but you only shrugged and she moved on.
âYouâre going to need a way to travel, itâll be thousands of miles to Autumn.â
She said, and you sighed, looping your arm through the handles of the duffle bag and throwing it over your shoulder as you hurried down the steps again, trying to be quiet for the sake of your sleeping family.
Nesta followed you out of the front door as you shut it, Cassian still standing outside, quietly watching with that same grim look on his face as you hopped your neighbor's fence, running across the mass of property they had in the backyard, straight to the small horse stables they had. You went in and opened the first one you could find, a dark-colored mare with a splotchy white stripe down her face, and some white near her hooves.
Pulling the winter coat off of her the gentlest you could, you scrambled to find a bridle that fit the mare as she stomped nervously, and you eventually found one and slipped it on, the horse not seeming eager to get the bit in its mouth, even though you managed to get it in.
Nesta caught up with you and glanced from you to the horse.
âYou are crazy.â
She said though she had a slight smirk as she said it. You sighed, grabbing the reins and leading the mare outside of its stall, and you glanced over to Nesta.
âGive me a leg up?â
You asked with a small attempt at a grin, and she sighed, shaking her head in fond exasperation as she held her hands out for you to put your foot in, and you did, and she counted down from three before hoisting you up over the horse.
The large animal did not seem happy about that, either. But despite its protests, and the fact that you were riding it bareback because taking care of a bridle, saddle, stirrups and more was probably more than you could handle, you managed.
âTell Rhys to ignore anyone complaining of a missing horse for me, will you?â
You said with that weak little half-grin, and she returned it.
âSure, I can manage that.â
She said in an amused tone.
A moment of silence passed, before she swallowed, and spoke.
âBe careful. Donât get yourself killed.â
She said, and you nodded, laughing softly.
âI wonât. Once Iâm..safe, Iâll figure out a way to let you know. I promise.â
The inky mark of your oath spread around both of your wrists, reminding you of the promise. You didnât know how youâd tell her without anyone else, or a specific shadowsinger catching wind of where you were, but you would figure it out.
The wind blew by, and you swallowed again.
âWellâŚI guess this is goodbye.â
âFor now.â
She replied, and you nodded.
âFor now.â
And with that, she gave a single nod and began walking back over to Cassian, who offered a dip of his head in goodbye. You gently nudged the horse with your foot, gathering up the reigns, and it jolted forward, taking any excuse to run wild after being cooped up in a stall for so long.
It hopped the fence easily, despite how you almost fell off and began bounding off before you adjusted it Southeast, where you would skirt the boundaries of Night Court, and then head to Autumn.
Into Autumn, where freedom loomed, and into Autumn, where the threat of more than just your self-discovery loomed as well.

Obsessed (Azriel x Reader) - Masterlist
****
Hello everyone!! â¨
Due to foreseen circumstances (my delusions) which went out of control, I have decided to move forward by writing this as a series.
Summary: Azriel is obssessed. Y/n is delusional. Everybody wants to get railed (and they eventually will, I promise).
I don't even know how I came up with this summary but I did. đđ
Warnings: Stalker Azriel, delusions, smutty fantasies, Azriel's hands and thick, veiny forearms and long fingers, Azriel's tattoos, smut (upcoming), etc. (will keep adding as the story progresses)
This is 18+ stuff, I know we've all read Wattpad and AO3 but please don't risk your mental health.
****
Part 1: In a world of boys, heâs an obsessed billionaire stalker.
Part 2: Y/n gets even more horny. Meanwhile, Azriel is horny, obsessed, and is busy taking notes for their future home.
Part 3: Nesta is even more delusional than Y/n. Azriel finally knows his woman is attracted to him.
Part 4 (SMUT): Feelings and desires finally come forward.
Part 5 (MORE SMUT): We continue the sex from where we left off previously.
Part 6 (SMUT): Azriel and Y/n are idiots in obsession and perfectly matched in lust.
Part 7 (EVEN MORE SMUT): Delulu Azriel takes issue with not being married to Y/n. (heâs just a girl)
Part 8 (a little smut): Y/n discovers a few things and a few more are revealed.
****
Comment if you want to be tagged. â¨â¨
Thank you for your patience!
Much love Chips

Please, stop... | Part 1
Pairing: Helion x reader (x Nessian)
Warnings: abusive relationship and descriptions of SA - MINORS DNI
Prompt: youâre Nesta and Cassianâs mate and yet you are so different from them. From day 1 you tried to be a good mate and do as they wanted and liked but they like it rough and you just donât. Not only is it not enjoyable for you it is actually painful. And not just in bed. You always excused their behavior as being overprotective but recently you started calling it something else: controlling. And one night, all changed as you uttered the words you had tried so hard never to say, but always thinking if you ever did they would listen. But they didnât. And that night, everything broke.
(A/N: it's my first time writing for ACOTAR - English isn't my first language)
Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Please, stop.
You couldn't remember exactly how many times you had said it. It hadn't mattered. You weren't sure if they just didn't hear you or didn't care. You couldn't bring yourself to think they had just ignored it, ignored you. But you didn't know if the alternative was better. Maybe they just didn't care.
You cried and Nesta called you a brat. You asked them to stop the first time and Cassian shoved his large cock down your throat to shut you up.
You had almost passed out then. Not because of the way you were choking on his hard length but because you had asked them to stop and they hadn't listened. They had ignored you. They had kept going.
You were crying and begging and it just didn't register. Like it didn't matter. Like you didn't matter. All that mattered was them and their pleasure.
They had gone to bed after they were done, leaving you to care for yourself. And it was then, when you were sitting in that cold bath alone, that you realized. Your mates didn't love you. They loved each other, but you were nothing more than a sex toy to them. You who had tried so hard to be a good mate. Nesta had called you a brat and a bad girl. You who had tried so hard to please them and give them whatever they wanted. It hadn't mattered. They would have taken it anyway, no matter what you wanted.
Your heart broke. You wondered if they felt it through the bond. They didn't stir from their sleep.
You silently exited the bath and put on clean clothes. You packed lightly and quietly and didn't look back at your mates before stepping out of the bedroom.
You went to Azriel, because you really didn't have any other choice. Azriel never asked too many questions. It was as much a quality as it was a flaw. That first time he saw your bruised neck for example, he didn't say a thing. Nor did he mention it the second time, or inquire after your well being the third time. He never asked. Because it wasn't his business. But Mor never mentioned it either. Neither did Feyre or Rhys. Your friends, your family. They all had seen it at one point or another. The bruises. The look in your eyes. The flinching when either of your mate raised their voices or got anywhere close to you.
Nesta and Cassian like it rough. That was the end of it.
Azriel brought a dagger to your throat as you approached him. That didn't surprise you. You apologized for waking him up and asked him if he could do you a favor, no questions asked. You weren't sure he would. His loyalties would remain with Cassian. But, maybe it was the look in your eyes, maybe it was the tears, maybe it was the bruises, or the sound of your broken and desperate voice, but when you asked him to bring you to the Day Court in the middle of the night, he had just looked at you and your packed bag for a few seconds, then silently nodded.
Helion wasn't mad you had his guards wake him up at 2AM. No, Helion was concerned. Even more so when he saw you. You knew you probably looked exactly like you felt. Like complete and utter shit.
Helion had always been nice to you. What was there not to like? You were smart, gentle, caring and beautiful. You had similar interests and powers and had become good friends while doing some research with his healers when you were looking for a way to help Feyre when she was pregnant with Nyx.
Helion had become a true friend. The only one you had left after Nesta and Cassian had restricted your outings so much your old friends had more or less forgotten about you.
Helion made you feel safe. You had nowhere else to go.
He opened his mouth, but you spoke first.
"I request asylum."
Both males stilled. Your small and weak voice broke as you said the words but they had heard you loud and clear. You had never seen Azriel so surprise. You wondered if he would try and take you back to the Night Court by force.
"What?" was all Helion managed to say.
"I ask for refuge in your court, please," you said, voice trembling, tears filling your eyes.
"What happened?" he asked, hurrying towards you, checking you for any injury, eyeing you from head to toe, noticing the bruises on your face and neck.
"Please," you begged, falling apart, your knees giving up on you as you collapsed at his feet.
He knelt before you, taking you in his arms.
"What happened?" he asked again, but not to you.
Azriel's face was grave. He knew exactly what had happened. You'd had enough. You'd reached your breaking point. Like he knew this would happen. And yet he had done nothing.
You were sobbing in the High Lord's arms and he embraced you gently, running a hand up and down your back.
"Please," your voice nothing but a whisper. "I request asylum."
Helion's eyes landed on Azriel once more and the High Lord's silence had you panic.
"Please!"
"Granted," he said and you fell apart once more.
You buried your face in his lap, letting your cries and tears flow out of you. Helion looked at Azriel like he would tear him apart, as if he were the one who had hurt you.
"Y/N is now under the protection of my court. Inform your High Lord as soon as possible."
Azriel paused, as if considering not leaving you here, no doubt thinking about his brother, your mate. But, eventually, he nodded.
"Take care of her," was all he said before he vanished.
And as the spymaster disappeared, leaving you behind, your broken cries filled the halls of the Day Court.

Overprotective mate (Azriel x f!reader)
Summary:
You offer Azriel a place at your house, to get away from Nesta and Cassianâs lust. You get injured on a mission for Rhys, and Azriel goes all mother hen mode.
Warnings:
Mentions of intimacy
Blood, injury
Mentions of alcohol
Tropes:
Who did this to you?
Friends to lovers
Note:
Hey lovelies, this is my first fic on here, so please be nice. I really enjoy writing and drooling over fictional characters, and I know you do too. So letâs feed our delusion together. I know yâall are thirsting over Azriel as much as I am.
Enjoy x
Y/n
I knock on Nesta and Cassianâs door, clothed in my fighting leathers.
The door knob twists and the door freaks, as I spot Nestaâs head poking through the door.
âY/n, what are you doing here?â She asks as he opens the door fully.
âComing to see you, and also to talk to Azriel about somethingâ I tell her.
She steps aside to let me in, and I do. The door closes behind me, and the warmth of the house hits my body.
My back is facing her, so she walks around me to face my front.
âSorry about the mess, I was going to clean it up, but I got a little distractedâ she says, a hint of a smirk on her lips.
âOkay ew, I did not need to know thatâ I say, making a disgusted face, and she just chuckles in response.
âNes whoâs hereâ a male voice says, as it enters the hallway weâre standing in.
âCassianâ I say smiling at him.
âY/n!â He squeals, and runs over to hug me.
He lifts me off the floor easily, and spins me around.
I laugh, as I hug him back.
He lets me down, and stands next to Nesta.
âWhereâs Az?â I ask them both.
They look towards the living room, and I take that as a hint.
I leave my weapons in the hallway, and head into the living area.
As I enter I canât spot him, but I hear some noises coming from the kitchen, so naturally I head towards them.
When I enter, I spot Azriel with his back to me.
He has a towel slung over one of his shoulders, and the water is running in the sink. Heâs clothed in his Illyrian fighting leathers, sculpting his body like a god.
âYou just got done with your morning workout?â I ask, to make him aware of my presence.
He turns around, not at all startled, and just leans against the counter.
âY/n. What are you doing here?â He asks, as he sips from the water bottle he must have been filling up.
Fuck he looks insanely good. His hair is damp from his workout, and his cheeks are slightly tinted. His skin is glowing from the sweat, but he still manages to smell absolutely divine.
âIâm actually here to talk to youâ I say, as I place my elbows on the kitchen isle in front of me, leaning forward.
âOkayâŚabout what?â He asks me, putting down his water bottle.
âWell I have an offer for youâ I tell him.
âWhat kind of offer?â He questions.
âTo come live with me, instead of the two horndogs youâre living with right nowâ I answer him.
He raises his eyebrows in confusion.
âLook I have a spare room in my little cottage on the edge of the city, and Iâm barely ever home. So do you need somewhere private and quiet to stay, my place is openâ I explain to him.
âOh uhm, are you sure?â He asks.
Honestly Iâm kind of shocked heâs agree so quickly. I mean I would want to get away from Nesta and Cassianâs fucking too, but I expected him to mull it over more.
âYeah of course. Itâs no trouble. Besides as I said, Iâm almost never home, so youâd basically have the place to yourselfâ I tell him.
âThatâs generous of you, but I would have to talk to Nesta and Cassian about it firstâ he says, as he puts his towel down on the counter.
âYeah, no of courseâ I say, and he gives me a slight nod, before walking off to find them.
*about 15 minutes later*
âWhy do you have to leave us Az? I liked having you hereâ Cassian whines, as me and Azriel are standing in the hallway, ready to leave.
âItâs okay babe, weâll have the house all to ourselves nowâ Nesta grins at him.
That makes him shut up, and grin back.
I roll my eyes and pick up my weapons.
âYouâll be free to visit anytimeâ I tell them both, and they nod at me.
âOkay you ready?â I ask Azriel, as I offer up my arm.
He links his in mine, and I winnow us out.
ââââââ
We land in my own hallway, and I let go of his arm.
Again, I put my weapons down, and he does as well.
âOkay, you want me to show you around?â I turn to look at him.
He just nods. Not exactly a man of many words.
I walk left and into the living room.
âOkay, so here is the small living area, and in there is the kitchenâ I say, pointing to an archway leading from the living room.
Then I walk back into the hallway.
âThat door leads to a small bathroomâ I hint to the door on the right.
âOkay thatâs everything downstairs, so let me show you upstairsâ I start walking up the stairs.
I can hear him following me as I lead us both up to the second floor.
As we reach the top of the stairs, there is a little hallway, with several doors on each side.
âOkay so uhm, this door leads into my room, and a private bathroom that connects with itâ I say as I hint for the door on the left.
I walk in a little further, until I reach the first door on the right.
âAnd itâs basically the same in here, but you can feel free to explore it yourselfâ I continue.
He just nods in understanding.
I walk further until I reach two glass doors. I open them and walk out into a little balcony.
âSo this is just a little comfort place, but I mostly use it for reading, drinking, and a landing spot for when I fly inâ I explain to him.
Then I turn around to face him.
Heâs just looking around him, studying everything.
âOkay well, I have to leave, but Iâll be back sometime tonight. Iâll try not to make a soundâ I say, and he snaps his head to mine.
Again he just nods, and I take that as a hint for me to leave.
I turn around to walk back into the house when he speaks.
âY/n?â
I turn around again to face him.
âThank youâ he smiles softly.
âOf courseâ I smile warmly back, before turning back around again, and walking into the hallway.
*hours later*
I winnow into my room, and land on the floor with a thud. I try to be more quiet as I stumble back steadily on my feet.
The wound on my hipbone is throbbing, and I need to attend to it now.
I promised Azriel Iâd be quiet when I returned home, but Iâve not done so well this far.
I make my way over to my bathroom, grabbing some rubbing alcohol and a cloth. Then I stumble back into the bedroom, and take a seat on the bed.
I drop my weapons and every other thing I was carrying on the floor, as I try to unbutton my corset.
Fuck why does it have to be so difficult. I try not to moan out in pain, as my wound keeps on throbbing.
I was attacked by several water wraiths on my mission for Rhys. And I made my way out fine, except for the open wound on my hipbone.
But luckily I achieved what I wanted, and I was able to retrieve the item he sent me for.
Although that would be no help if I couldnât deliver it to him in the morning. And right now, by the looks of the wound, I needed some serious healing.
There was some kind of poison in my wound and Iâd try to extract it with my magic, to no avail.
Iâd have to go to a healer tomorrow, but now I just wanted sleep.
I finally pull off my corset, and throw it on the floor, as I lift up my white linen shirt to get better access to the wound.
I grab the cloth and rubbing alcohol, pouring some on it, as I press the cloth to my flesh.
I scream in pain, as the alcohol connects with my open and fresh skin. Blood is already dripping everywhere, and I bite down on my lip to refrain from screaming again.
The last thing I want is to wake up Azriel.
The someone bursts through my door.
âY/n!â Azriel says panicked, as he flings the door open.
I snap my head to him, and curse myself for waking him.
âIâm sorry, I didnât mean to wake youâ I apologize as he heads over to me.
âWhat happened?â He asks, avoiding my apology.
He bends down in front of me, and kneels as he takes a look at my hand pressed firmly on my wound.
âLet me see itâ he demands, as he looks up at me.
âNo Iâm fine. Go back to bedâ I argue, as I wave him away.
âThereâs no fucking way Iâm leaving you like thisâ he curses, and Iâm shocked at his sudden angry tone.
He notices and softens, as he speaks again.
âJust let me help youâ he pleads, looking into my eyes, and I give up.
I raise my hand and cloth from the wound, revealing to to him.
âWho did this to you?â He ask as he removes the cloth slowly from my hand.
I let him.
âWater wraithsâ I answer, as he moves his hand to my shirt.
He lifts it slightly higher, and I shiver as his fingers grazes my skin lightly.
He looks up into my eyes asking for permission to tend to my wound.
I just give him a slight nod, and he presses the cloth carefully onto my skin again.
I wince, as I grab onto his shoulder in reaction.
He cleans the wound thoroughly, and patches me up. He even uses some of his own magic to soothe out the pain.
As heâs finished I immediately feel relief wash over me.
âYouâre gonna have to see a healer tomorrowâ he says a he takes the alcohol and cloth into the bathroom.
âI will. After I talk to Rhysâ I tell him.
âHe sent you on this dangerous mission?â He questions as he turns around to walk back into my bedroom.
I donât answer him, and use my magic to change from fighting leathers into a simple nightgown.
I let my hair stay in the messy braid it already is, before I crawl into my bed.
âGoodnight Azriel, and thank youâ I say as I get comfortable.
He sighs and heads over to my door. He halts before walking out.
âAnytime you need me, Iâm here. No matter what it isâ he says, and I donât get to respond before he vanishes out of my room, closing the door behind him.
I try not to think about it, as I close my eyes, waiting for sleep to pull me in. And eventually it does.
*next morning*
I open my eyes to sunlight beaming through my curtains. I shift to sit up in my bed.
As I lift my nightgown, I notice that my wound has worsened overnight. Although the throbbing sensation isnât as bad as it was last night. Thanks to Azriel.
I get out of bed, and pull on some pants, as well as a red loose linen shirt, also pulling on a pair of simple black boots.
I look in the mirror to spot my hair a mess, so I take out the braid, and twist my hair into a messy bun, using a large hair pin to secure it.
Then I decide to head downstairs.
As I walk down, I hear some grumbling and clinking of metal, sounding from the kitchen.
I walk into the living room, and further into the kitchen, where I spot Azriel, cooking food.
Thatâs something I never thought Iâd see.
He must notice my presence, because he turns his head slightly to the side, sliding his eyes over my body.
I canât help but feel tingles as he roams his gaze over me.
âYou feeling better?â He asks as he turns his head back around.
I debate whether I should tell him about the spreading of the wound or not. But I do, as heâs probably gonna demand to see it anyways.
âA little yeah, your magic helped a lot with the pain. But the poison has spreadâ I say, sitting down at the small kitchen table.
âLet me see itâ he demands as expected, turning his full body around to face me.
I sigh, and lift up my shirt to the expose the infected wound.
He curses under his breath, and strides over to where Iâm sitting.
âIâm gonna kill Rhys for letting this happen to youâ he says angrily.
âAz itâs fine. I chose to go. Rhys didnât force meâ I explain to him.
âYou got hurt y/n. Badlyâ he looks into my eyes.
Heâs standing in front of me, making me look up at him.
âI told you, Iâm fineâ I say again.
He lifts my chin up slightly, placing a hand under it.
âIâm coming with you to the town houseâ he says and walks away, back to whatever heâs cooking.
I sigh, knowing I wonât be able to stop him. If he wants to come, heâs gonna come.
ââââââ
Me and Az are standing in the living room in the town house with Rhys.
âWhy did you let her leave when you knew how dangerous it was?â Azriel asks Rhys mad.
Heâs been cursing out Rhys for the past five minutes now, for letting me go on a mission with him. Iâve been trying to stop Az but he wonât listen to me.
âAzriel. She wanted to go herself. And Iâm sorry she got hurt. But you canât put this on meâ Rhys says calmly, trying to reason with Az.
âI donât fucking care! This IS your fault! If it was Feyre that got hurt, how would you have reacted then huh?â Az argues, but Rhys is just standing with his arms crossed over his chest.
âDo not bring Feyre into thisâ Rhys warns.
âBring me into what?â A soft voice asks from behind.
We all turn our heads to spot Feyre, Mor, Nesta and Cassian all standing in the hallway, looking at us.
âItâs nothing guysâŚâ I try to tell them.
âThen why does Azriel look like heâs gonna rip Rhysâs head off?â Cassian asks confused.
I sigh heavily, taking a deep breath.
âRhys sent y/n on a dangerous mission and almost got her killed. And then he doesnât even careâ Azriel explains to them, and they all turn their heads to Rhys.
âHeâs being over dramatic. Y/n wanted to go herselfâ Rhys tries to explain calmly to the others.
âOver dramatic? Have you seen her fucking wound?â Azriel curses, very angry.
Everyone looks shocked at Azrielâs swearing. Heâs the quiet type, and rarely gets angry in front of others. Especially angry with us.
âAzâŚplease calm down..â I say breaking the silence.
âI wonât calm down when you could have died y/nâ he yells at me.
âWhy are you yelling at me? Iâm just trying to talk to youâ I answer a little annoyed at him for yelling at me, when itâs Rhys heâs actually angry with.
He doesnât answer and just tries to steady his breathing instead. Then Cassian walks over to me.
âLet me see your injury y/nâŚâ he tells me quietly, to not trigger Azriel.
I lift up my shirt to show the infected wound, spreading more and more over my body.
He slaps his hand over his mouth, as he looks at it, and the girls run over to see how bad it is. They too look scared as they inspect the wound.
âRhys this is not a normal wound. I think sheâs been poisonedâ Feyre says as she looks at her mate.
He walks over to me to see it for himself, and raises his eyebrows in shock as he sees it.
âFuck. Iâm sorry y/n. I shouldnât have let you go on that mission for meâ he apologizes.
âNo itâs fine, I wanted to myselfâ I tell him, and he gives me an apologetic smile.
âAzriel please donât be mad at him for thisâŚâ I say as I look over at him.
âAz come on manâŚweâll take her to a healerâ Cassian adds as well, trying to get his attention.
I sigh, moving away from the others and walking over to him.
Heâs standing with his arms crossed over his chest, and I move my hands to them, to untuck his tight grip.
As I touch his arms, he rests a little into me, letting me touch him.
âYou promised youâd go with me to the healerâŚâ I say at a desperate attempt to get his attention.
Finally he looks up at me.
âFine. But weâre leaving nowâ he agrees, but doesnât show any emotion.
The others donât say anything as he strides to the front door to leave as fast as he can.
I wait to follow him, turning my attention to the others.
âIâll talk to him alright? Heâll be fine, he just needs to calm downâ I tell them.
They nod their heads, and I move the front door, to leave with Az.
ââââââ
We arrive at the healer, and a kind fae named Victoria inspects my wound.
I am sitting on a medical bed, while Azriel is standing in the corner, arms crossed over his chest.
âYour wound has been poisonedâ Victoria says as she touches my skin slightly.
âYeah we kind of figured that part out ourselvesâ I joke slightly.
She touches my wound and I wince.
âIâm sorryâ she says, pulling away.
âItâs fine, just help me pleaseâ I say, stealing a quick glance over at Azriel.
His face is blank, watching every movement.
Victoria walks over to a little table, grabbing some herbs and medicine, before walking back over to me.
âIâll put these herbs on your wound, and it should heal in about a week. I will also give you these pills for the pain. And I would highly advise you to take it slow, and not do anything to livid, so it can heal fasterâ she tells me, putting the herbs on the infected wound.
I nod my head in understanding.
âIâll be careful, and postpone any energetic exercises until itâs fully healedâ I tell her.
She smiles warmly at me.
âShould anything go wrong, you come to me alright?â She asks as she bandages up my wound again.
âOf courseâ I smile at her, standing up from the bed.
I walk over to the door and Azriel follows me.
âOh and remember to change your bandage dailyâ she adds quickly, and I nod again, before walking out of her little office.
Me and Azriel walk into the sunny streets of Velaris, and a light breeze blows by.
âSee I told you it was fineâ I say, trying to lighten Azrielâs mood.
âYou got luckyâ he answers coldly, and I roll my eyes.
âAre you still in a mood? Stop being so over dramaticâ I say as I turn to look at him.
âIâm not over dramatic. Iâm just being protective. I hate seeing you hurtâ he tells me and I feel my heart jump a beat at his words.
âWell Iâm glad you care about me Az, but I donât want you to flip out on everyone because I got hurtâ I say, as I cross my arms over my chest.
He doesnât say anything, and just looks down at the ground in silence.
I sigh.
âCan we go back to the town house now? And can you please promise me that you wonât stay mad at Rhys?â I ask him, and he looks up at me.
âI promise to tryâ he answers me, and I sigh in defeat, knowing thatâs the best answer Iâll get.
Then we walk back, heading towards the town house.
ââââââ
âWeâre back!â I yell as we enter the town house.
I take off my shoes and coat and walk into the living room, where I find all of them chatting amongst themselves.
âY/n howâd it go?â Rhys asks as Azriel comes up behind me.
âIt went fine actually. The nurse put some herbs on my wound to kill the poison, and some pills for the pain. But it should be healed in about a weekâ I say smiling softly at him.
âThatâs great y/nâ Feyre tells me, and I smile at her too.
Rhys looks at Azriel staring behind me, and guilt flashes his face.
âAzâŚcan we please squash it. Itâs my fault I know. I shouldnât have sent y/n on that missionâ he says, looking at Azriel.
I hear Az sighing behind me, placing a gentle hand on my back, before speaking.
âJust donât do it againâ he says, accepting Rhysâs apology.
Rhys smiles contently.
Then I spit Cassian looking at the hand Azrielâs placed on my back, and he smirks.
Azriel notices Cassian too, and immediately pulls his hand back.
Cassian just chuckles at his reaction.
âWhy donât we go to Ritaâs tonight? I think we all need itâ I suggest.
âCan you drink with your injury?â Mor asks looking at me.
âYeah as long as I donât drink too much I should be fine. Tell you what Iâll be the responsible parent tonightâ I answer.
âYou know I could actually get down for thatâ Feyre agrees.
âMe tooâ Nesta adds.
âMe threeâ Cassian says, agreeing with everything his mate says.
The others nod in agreement as well.
âOkay great. We leave in thirtyâ I say, and walk towards the stairs, to go upstairs and get ready.
ââââââ
Iâm wearing a short, black, backless glitter dress, with some black heels. Iâve got my hair hanging down in loose waves, and some golden hoops in my ears.
I head downstairs to where the others are standing. Mor is wearing a red, satin, slit dress. Feyre is wearing a midnight blue, strapless dress. And Nesta is wearing an all black one, with long sleeves.
All the guys are clothed in the same black dress pants and shirts. The top buttons undone to show their muscular chests.
ďżźâMor I love your dressâ I smile at her.
âThanks babes. You look hot â she winks back.
âYeah you look beautiful y/nâ Azriel adds as well.
I look at him, kind of surprised at this sudden compliment. The others have the same reaction, as they look between us.
âThanks AzâŚâ I say awkwardly.
Feyre spots the obvious tension, and decides to interfereâ
âLetâs go shall we?â
Rhys nods his head and opens the door, and we all leave.
ââââââ
Azriel
I watch y/n as she dances and laughs with the other girls. She looks absolutely stunning, I canât tear my eyes away from her.
I should have never anything earlier, although she didnât seem to bother.
âHey AzâŚyou might wanna avert your gaze somewhere else for a whileâ Rhys says from beside me, in our little booth.
âWhatâ I turn to look at him.
âYouâve been watching y/n like a hawk for the last thirty minutes nowâ he answers, smirking a little.
âWhat are you talking about?â I ask, even though I know heâs right.
âAz youâre completely eye fucking herâ Cassian says as well, and I roll my eyes.
âI am notâ I snap at him.
âWhatever you sayâ he grins.
I roll my eyes at him again, standing up.
âWhere are you going?â Rhys asks confused.
âTo get a drinkâ I answer shortly, and stride for the bar.
Y/n
âIâm tired can we sit down?â Feyre asks as another song comes on.
âYeah Iâm tired tooâ Mor adds.
âYeah okayâ I say, and we walk out of the crowd.
I head towards our little booth, where Cassian and Rhys are both sitting. No Azriel though.
âHey, you guys done already?â Cassian asks as Nesta sits down next to him.
âYou try to dance for an hour straightâ she snaps at him, and he just laughs, placing a hand on her thigh.
âHey whereâs Azriel?â Feyre asks, taking a seat next to her mate.
Mor moves next to Feyre and I move next to Nesta.
âHe said he was getting a drink, but heâs been gone for a while nowâ Rhys answers, looking out in the crowd for him.
âAzriel never drinksâ I say, as I take a sip of Cassianâs from the table.
âHeyâ he snaps at me, but I just glare at him.
âMaybe you should go looking for him y/nâ Nesta says, looking at me.
âWhy me?â I ask her.
âBecause no one else wants toâ she answers shortly.
âFineâŚâ I sigh, and get up.
I walk over to the crowd again to see if I spot him. I try to look over all the dancing bodies, but I canât see him. Instead I take a quick look over at the bar, but I donât find him there either.
I stand up on my tiptoes, searching for him, when I feel a pair of two large hands on my waist.
I turn around quickly, to find two drunken hazel eyes staring at me.
âAzrielâ I say in surprise, as heâs standing very close.
Weâre in the middle of the crowd, with several sweaty bodies pressed up against each other, making very little space for us.
He keeps his hands on my waist, while trailing his eyes all over my body. I blush slightly at his gaze, but try to hide it.
His grip tightens, and he pulls me into him, making my hands go to his chest in support.
Then he angels his head, moving his gaze to my lips. His fingers trace the bare back thatâs not covered by my dress, and I slightly shiver.
âAzriel what are you doingâŚâ I say lowly, as his fingers trail over my bare skin.
He doesnât respond and instead moves his head to my ear, whispering.
âYou look beautiful my loveâŚâ
I feel heat rise to my cheeks again at his words.
âYouâre drunkâ I respond slowly.
âI still think youâre absolutely divineâ he speaks again and I donât move.
He moves away from my ear, only for his face to be inches from mine.
My breathing gets heavy and I struggle to keep eye contact. What is happening to me?
âWe should head back to the othersâŚâ I tell him.
âShould we?â He questions, looking at my lips again.
âYesâŚâ I breathe out, pulling away from him hesitantly.
He lets go of me, and I turn away, walking away from the crowd once again.
I can feel him following me, so I donât stop.
As we reach our booth, the others turn to look at me. And Azriel, who comes up next to me, placing a hand on my waist.
âI see you found himâ Rhys says, gazing towards the hand on my waist.
âUh yes I didâ I respond, moving to sit next to Nesta again.
âI canât believe Iâm even saying this. But is Azriel drunk?â Mor asks, grinning a little, as she looks at him.
âMhmâŚâ I nod in reply.
Her grin turns even wider, and I see the others mouths turning up as well.
Then Azriel decides to move next to me, despite the also empty spot next to Mor, and sits down.
He doesnât seem embarrassed, as he moves as close as possible to me.
I shift in my seat nervously, as his body heat and scent radiates onto my own.
âHey buddy, why are you clinging to y/n so much huh?â Cassian asks, a wide smirk plastered on his face, and I glare at him.
âYeah Az, please elaborate on this sudden infatuation with our dear friend y/n hereâ Mor adds, and I shoot her a glare too.
âWhat do you mean suddenâŚâ Azriel responds shortly, as he turns his head to her.
Feyre and Mor gasp in shock, and Nesta chuckles as I blush badly.
âSheâs so beautifulâŚâ he mumbles, pushing some hair off my shoulder.
I sit completely still, as I feel his piercing gaze on me.
I hear Cassian struggle not to laugh his ass off, and I see the others grinning like hell.
âHey AzâŚmaybe we should go backâ I say, turning to look at him.
âNo donât leave yetâ Mor whines.
âNo itâs fine, Iâll take him with me to my cottage. I promised to be the responsible parent right?â I say smiling a little.
âMaybe sheâs right. I think Azriel needs to go to bedâ Rhys agrees.
âFineâŚâ Mor sighs in defeat, and I smile a little.
Then I turn to Azriel again, moving to stand up. He rises from his seat, and I follow.
âCome on big guyâŚâ I say as I link my arm in his and walk for the exit.
âHave fun!â Cassian winks and I flip him off.
The others laugh as I lead Azriel out of Ritaâs.
ââââââ
We arrive at my small cottage and I stumble us inside.
I flip off my heels and drag Azriel with me upstairs. Then I lead him into his bedroom and sit him on the bed.
As I try to walk away, he grabs my waist, pulling me in between his legs. I steady my hands on his shoulders in response.
He then rubs circles with his thumbs in soothing motion, and I tug my hair behind my ears.
His hands move up to my waist and up to my bare back again, pushing me closer to him. My thighs are touching his, and my hands have moved to rest comfortably on his neck and shoulders.
âIâm sorry for making you angryâ he apologizes.
âIâm not angry Azâ I answer him.
âYouâre not?â He questions.
âNo. I was annoyed with you, but not anymoreâ I tell him, as I move a hand to stroke his cheek.
He smiles slightly.
âGoodâ
One of his hands move to my neck, pulling it down towards his face. I follow his lead, leaning down.
He moves my face slowly towards his, before brining his lips to mine softly.
Iâm taken back by surprise, but donât hold back, as I get more comfortable. I decide to sit on his lap, and he immediately places his hands on my waist to keep me in place.
I kiss him passionately, keeping my hands on his face, to cup his cheeks.
But then I realize what Iâm doing and pull away.
âShit I shouldnât have done thatâ I say, standing up from his lap.
âNo y/n wait-â
âNo you need to go to bed Azrielâ I cut him off, striding towards the door.
âY/n pleaseâ I hear him beg behind me, but I continue to walk out and into my own room.
When I get into my own bedroom, I shut the door closed, and throw myself on the bed.
I slip off my dress, and put an oversized t-shirt to sleep in. Then I force myself to go to sleep, pushing away all my feelings. And also the fact that Azriel is my fucking mate.
ââââââ
I wake up and walk down into the kitchen. Azriel hasnât woken up yet luckily.
I decide to grab some juice from the fridge, and drink straight from the bottle, before I hear steps entering the kitchen.
I donât even turn around as his presence fills the room.
âGood morningâŚâ he says quietly, heading over to where Iâm standing.
âMorningâ I respond shortly, not turning around.
He reaches the fridge and I turn around to face the counter, as he moves past me.
âY/n about last nightâŚIâm sorryâ he starts to apologize.
âFor what?â I ask boldly, my back still facing him.
âFor leading you on, and making you kiss me. It was foolish of meâ he admits, and I can feel him standing close.
âI wanted to kiss youâ I say turning around, and leaning my back against the counter.
He only raises his eyebrows in shock and confusion.
âYou were drunk, I just didnât wanna take advantage of youâ I continue, sitting up on the counter, my feet dangling off the edge.
My t-shirt is only long enough to cover my ass, so when I sit, it rises up my thighs. Azriel takes a notice of this and steals a glance at the bare skin of my thighs, before speaking.
âWell I appreciate that but uhmâŚactually IâŚâ he stutters as he talks. Unusual.
âYou whatâŚâ I urge for him to keep going.
He only walks closer to me, placing his hands on my thighs. I shiver at his touch, knowing his shadows can sense it.
âSay it AzrielâŚâ I tell him as I wrap my arms around his neck.
âYouâre myâŚâ he hesitates.
I pull him closer to me, so our noses are barely touching.
âMateâ I finish for him, smashing my lips onto his.
He doesnât think twice as his hands move to my waist, pulling me closer to him.
I keep my hands on his neck, running my fingers through his hair, as I kiss him passionately.
Heâs so fucking good at this. His hands dig into my sides, and he opens his mouth, so I can slide my tongue in. And I do.
He kisses me more roughly, pulling and tugging at my shirt. His teeth graze my bottom lip as he slightly nibbles.
I pull away to catch my breath, only for him to crash his lips onto my neck instead.
I push my hair to one side, as he trails his tongue over my skin. Then he decides to start sucking instead. I let out a silent moan as he bites into my neck.
With that he pushes into me even more, making our lower abdomens graze each other.
âY/nâŚâ he groans, and I wrap my legs around his torso.
I pull his head up from my neck, so weâre face to face.
We make eye contact, and I move my hand to push some hair out of his face. Then I cup his cheeks, and lean in to place my forehead on his.
I close my eyes, and breathe in his scent and presence.
His hands rest on my hips, with my legs still wrapped loosely around him.
âIâm sorryâŚâ he whispers.
I raise my head and open my eyes.
âFor what?â I ask confused.
âFor being such an idiot. I shouldnât have let you get hurt, but I definitely shouldnât have lashed out like I did. Itâs just that you mean the world to me. If you get hurt, I get hurt. If you die, I dieâ he answers.
I canât help but feel bad for him. Heâs genuinely hurting because of this.
âAzrielâŚyou mean the world to me too. Believe me, I wouldnât have held back if you got inured either. It just upset me that you didnât listen to me when I told you it was fineâ I say, stroking his cheek soothingly with my thumb.
âI know loveâŚand I promise Iâll listen you next time. Can you forgive me?â He asks, regret shining his eyes.
âThere is nothing to forgiveâŚâ I answer, leaning in slowly to give his lips a comforting kiss.
He doesnât stop me as I kiss him. This time the kiss is not filled with lust and hunger, but pure love and longing.
As I pull away again, I keep my hands on his neck, and he keeps mine on my hips.
âBreakfast?â I ask him softly, trailing fingers through his hair.
âMhmâ he nods, and leans in to give another quick and loving kiss.
We both smile through the kiss, and I feel every part of my body relaxing at his touch.
ââââââ
âYou know weâre gonna get bullied for centuries for this?â I say, as I take a bite of my fried egg toast.
âOh trust me I knowâŚCassian is going to be a big pain in the ass to say the leastâ Azriel replies, as he eats too.
âAs long as I get to have you all for myselâ I say, a hint of seduction in my voice.
He just cocks an eyebrow at me knowingly, and I take another bite of my food.
âWe donât have anything important planned today rightâŚâ he asks, not looking up at me, as he sips his juice.
âNo I donât think soâŚwhy?â I ask curiously.
He just shrugs, and I give him a playful look.
âIâm glad you moved in here with meâŚâ I say, finishing my food.
âMe tooâŚâ he trails off as he also finishes up.
I grab my plate and cup, heading over to the sink to wash it. I hear Azriel following me from behind.
As I wash my dishes, he comes up behind me, placing his own in the sink. I wash his too, as his hands start to roam my body.
Still wearing my t-shirt, he presses into my back, running his hands up my thighs. I can already fell my body aching for him.
I truly underestimated the whole mating thing. When Rhys and Feyre told me they basically fucked each other with no breaks for a week, I only laughed at them. But now I want nothing more than to let Azriel do the same to me.
As his hands smoothes over my bare skin, a shiver runs down my spine. He lifts my t-shirt up to my waist, exposing my underwear.
One of his hands trail under my shirt, up towards my breast, while the other goes to my ass.
I lean my head slightly back, closing my eyes. His lips move to the bare skin of my neck, licking and kissing.
When his hand finally reaches my breast, he cups it, running his finger smoothly over the already hardened nipple.
I let out a slight moan, as he touches the sensitive spot. He just smirks into my neck, as he starts to suck it.
My hands find their way to the counter, grabbing it harshly, my knuckles turning white.
I continue to let out several whimpers and slight moans, as his hand and tongue devour me.
Then his hips grind into my backside. His bulge grazing into my ass. With that we both let out loud moans.
ââââââ
âI thought we had nothing planned todayâŚâ I breathe out as Azrielâs head in between my legs.
âWe didnât. But apparently Rhys didâŚâ he murmurs into my skin.
âIâm gonna kill himâ I say, thinking about the dinner we have to attend in one hour.
âMe and you bothâ Azriel agrees, before sliding his tongue into me, earning a loud moan.
ââââââ
âGeez I can practically smell what youâve been doing from over hereâ Cassian says, putting a hand over his nose jokingly.
Me and Azriel just landed in the front veranda of the House of Wind, all dressed up for the dinner Rhys insisted we have.
I shoot Cassian a death glare, bumping into him on purpose as I walk past him.
âFor your own sake. Keep your mouth shut Cassâ I hear Azriel tell him as he follows me inside.
Everyone is seated at the dinner table, all dressed up. I take a seat next to Nesta, Azriel sitting next to me. Cassian comes in a moment later, sitting himself beside his mate.
I suddenly notice everyone staring and grinning at me and Azriel. Of course they know. Theyâre our family.
âYou enjoyed yourself today?â Rhys smirks widely.
âI will literally murder youâ I threaten him, but he just laughs.
âYour bond is really fucking strong. It almost makes me dizzyâ Mor adds, looking over at me and Azriel.
I knew the mating bond was strong, but not as strong as theyâre implying.
âIt enhances itself once itâs been fulfilled. Thatâs why we can sense it so easilyâ Amren explains, looking between me and Az.
âWell I wanna say congratulations y/n and Azriel. You both deserve itâ Feyre smiles at us both.
She is way too kind to be mated with the arrogant, baby high lord, Rhys.
âThank youâ Azriel smiles slightly at her.
âSo how did it all happen? What made you finally give in?â Rhys asks, as he pours himself some wine.
âDo you need to know all the details?â I raise my eyebrows at him.
He just smirks at me, taking a sip of his drink.
âIt was meâ Azriel speaks up from beside me.
Everyone turns their heads to him, including me.
âWhat do you mean Az?â Mor questions.
âMy stupid drunken ass kissed her when we got home from Ritaâsâ he tells everyone.
Several gasps echoes through the room. I myself let out a little sound of surprise.
âDamn AzâŚI donât expect that. How did you handle that y/n?â Cassian asks me.
Theyâre all looking at me. Awaiting my response.
âI kissed him back. Only for a few seconds though until I got my shit togetherâ I say.
âAnd then you just went to sleep?â Nesta ask confused.
I nod my head at her.
The other seem kind of confused as well, looking at us weirdly.
âAnd then when I woke up, I kissed her again. But she didnât resist me that timeâ Azriel smiles proudly.
I roll my eyes, and hit him in the arm playfully. He just stifles a laugh.
âAnd then whatâŚâ Feyre asks intrigued.
Rhys raises his eyebrows at his mateâs sudden interest. But she just keeps her gaze on me and Azriel.
âAnd then the bond snapped together. I think you know what happens nextâŚâ I say, grinning a bit at the last part.
Azriel goes red out of embarrassment at my slight exposing. Cassian just throws his head back with laughter, and the others snicker as well.
âWell I just lost my appetiteâ Amren says, pushing her plate away.
âPlease like you were gonna eat any of that anywaysâ Mor tells her, still kind of laughing.
Amren just rolls her eyes and glares at her, but Mor doesnât seem a tiny bit bothered.
As the laughter quiets down, everyone starts pouring food onto their plates. Except for Amren. And the conversation flows back to other things.
Azriel puts his hand on my thigh, letting it rest there. And I donât feel a tiny bit uncomfortable, as I let it stay there for the rest of the dinner.
