this may be a bit controversial, but reading f&b i thought it was pretty well-established that there were no winners in the dance of dragons.
Rhaenyra lost her daughter, her sons, her husband and her dragon. She was chased out of King's Landing for being a shit ruler and died at the hands of Aegon after betrayed by her people in Dragonstone. Not to mention that despite everything, she was not remembered as a queen.
With Rhaenyra dead, Aegon was officially king but his reign was described as short and sad. He lost his sons, he lost his brothers, his sister, and his dragon. He lost his mobility, half his body was charred. He died poisoned by his men bc he was a shit ruler and was remembered as a usurper.
And yet people still debate over about who won? How did Rhaenyra win? Her son became king, but the war was about her and her brother, not their bloodlines?? How did Aegon win? He ruled miserably for a year or so and then died betrayed? They both threw the realm to shit and lost everything in the span of three years. Neither of them were winners.
#they both served🗡 and served💅 but cmon yall#rhaenyra or aegon being winners contradicts the story#read/write fanfic if u want there to be a triumphant side so badly#i dont mean that as an insult btw#like what you want isn't canon so you might as find a retelling that suits what you want on ao3#im only rlly saying this bc these sorts of debates r what make fandom spaces so miserable#team green#team black#aegon ii targaryen#rhaenyra targaryen#hotd#asoiaf
