This was the moment were I realized "Oh. young Wilhelm is going to be like THAT is he." "I know people's names. Not because I care about them. It's just convenient" okay sure buddy. You didn't have to phrase it like that though.

The other funniest part of Ex2 is Roswaal being Sphinx's #1 hater. Every time they talk to each other Roswaal has nothing but spite and vitriol for Sphinx and Sphinx just doesn't care. Peak dynamic.

Shoutout to all the people who realized "The Steel Ax" was a stupid nickname and refused to let it catch on.

Wilhelm: (Hits her with the "Warrior's Glare") Theresia: (Just thinks he looks mean) HA gottem.

"I don't need friends". Shut up man friends are great. You'd know that if you acknowledged the fact that you had them.

Yeah how dare people ruin your concentration by caring for one another and expressing affection. He's not even doing this to be cool. He legitimately just thinks that he's living a better life than people who have love and friends and emotions. That's pretty sad.

"I'm just a sword! I don't care about friendship and loyalty!" he says, as he starts to care about friendship and loyalty.

WAIT I NEVER EVEN FOUND OUT WHAT SPHINX'S DEAL WAS! I know she's presumably a creation of echidna, but there is clearly something else going on. What was she researching? Why does she look like a Ryuzu clone, while clearly being something different? Why does Roswaal want her dead so bad? I need answers!

Ah shoot I was distracted by mocking Wilhelm for being edgy I forgot there were going to be emotions in this. She taught him how to care about things other than the sword, leading him away from violence, but he showed her a reason to value the sword, leading her towards violence. That's beautiful and sad and a little bit messed up.

Good for them. I'm sure that nothing will happen in the future that causes Wilhelm to regret not being able to say "I love you" to the woman he loves, reframing this moment as a tragic one. Surely not.

Re zero with context:

1) I loved how the blush in the opening scen is the only thing with any color in it, nice artistic way to show how that’s Roswaal’s focus.

2) Echidna telling Roswaal she understood and hugging him as he broke down is yet another parallel to Subaru. And I makes me wonder if he would have turned out more like Roswaal if he had agreed to that contract. (I need to read Greed If)

3) Good thing Ryuzu got to say goodbye to Betty but oh man that scene was heart breaking. It takes a common trope of the noble sacrifice and makes it seem so tragic cause Ryuzu and Beatrice seem to be children and should be going through this. And I’m already suspicious of Echidna cause of the earlier conversations Subaru’s had about Ryuzu and how Echidna doesn’t truely care for her, but I’m glad they they acknowledge that Young!Roswaal was against it initially and Ryuzu knew full well how little Echidna cared. She was doing this because the Sancuary is her home regardless of why it was made.

4) Loveing how Roswaal is not just a narrative foil of Subaru but of Otto and Garfield. Garfield especially had his “protagonist of another anime” moment and called out Roswaal.

5) Faith in Emilia to save the day! Yay!

Is there a character in re zero who hasn't killed subaru once?

Okay, here's my complete answer guide to the question “Has this character killed subaru?” lets go (NOTE: ONLY UP TO ARC 6, NOT INCLUDING WHAT:IFS!)

Emilia camp:

Emilia: Has not! Starting off strong!

Puck: Froze him to death a couple times

Rem: Killed him once and then tortured him until her sister mercy killed him

Ram: Mercy killed him that one time, and also attempted to murder him in cold blood multiple times. Once in arc 2 and twice in arc 6 (Though one of those was a misunderstanding) 

Beatrice: Has not killed him, but she got dangerously close to when she zapped his mana

Roswaal: Not directly, but pretty much every death in arcs 1-4 was his doing indirectly so… Yeah.

Otto: He threw him off the carriage to be eaten by the white whale, though it didn’t work he still died

Garfiel: Absolutely. A couple times.

Ryuzu: Kind of sort of. Not on purpose exactly.

Frederica: No, she unknowingly sent him to his death by following Roswaal’s directions though.

Petra: Kind of the same as Frederica but even less at fault because she’s 12

Patrasche: She bit his fucking head off but she’s still a good girl

Subaru: Subaru holds the record for the most Subaru deaths caused by a character directly. He’s unwell.

Anastasia camp:

Anastasia: Not really? Eridna tried to kill him while possessing her body

Julius: Yes, but it was a mercy kill

Joshua: No, I don't think he could if he tried

Ricardo: No he’s too cool

Any of the triplets: No but I think they could if they worked together

Crusche camp:

Crusche: I’m sure it came to mind, but no.

Ferris: Aided with the aforementioned mercy kill but didn't directly kill him

Wilhelm: No way, that’s his grandpa

Priscilla camp:

Priscilla: No but I think she threatened to at least once

Al: No they’re bros

Schult: The sickly Victorian orphan? No.

Heinkel: Nope but he should kill himself instead

Felt camp: 

Felt: Hasn’t killed him, but tried to when she thought he was breaking into her house

Reinhard: Indirectly killed him by killing Sirius

Rom: No. But he did eat his chips.

Ton, Chin, and Kan: Mugged him in multiple loops, though Chin is the only one who actually stabbed him, and the others freaked out implying they had no intention of actually killing him.

Witch cult:

Petelgeuse: Technically he never killed Subaru directly, he sure as hell did torture him though.

Regulus: Tried to, but somehow the immortal man was killed by the guy who dies all the time. Irony.

Sirius: Fucking Christ yes

Capella: Technically not directly

Gluttony siblings: Ley killed him once in arc 6, and Roy might have some kills because his body was kind of being possessed by Reid but that’s about as murky as the Anastasia/Eridna situation

Witches of sin: None of them tried to kill him directly but they did have a huge debate about whether or not he should kill himself. Echidna especially loved the idea of him killing himself as much as possible. 

Others: 

Elsa: Did the vampire serial killer kill him? Did she? Yes. Yes she did.

Meili: A few times. In arcs 2, 4, and 6!

Shaula: Yes, with her light sniper and as a giant scorpion. Girlboss!

Ried: Kind of, but again it was Roy’s body, sort of. It’s complicated.

Naoko and Kenichi: NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT THEIR DARLING BABY SON!!!!!!!!

Kadomon: No he’s just here to sell apples
