The replica AWS NVG Adapter on my RBR S4 Helmet kept breaking my ANVIS mounts due to the lack of curvature on the mount plate pushing into the plastic 'dome' and levering the screws, cracking the mount body. Got sick of this, so after a bit of percussive maintenance with a rubber mallet and a block of wood, it now has the proper relief curve to tighten the screws down all the way.

Plus I'm fairly certain original specimens had a slight curve to them as well.
...God I need to invest in sheet metal rollers.

3, 14, 23, 52 for the asks ! <3
3. Did you watch DTS? If so, what was your opinion on it?
i watched season 1 & 2 fully, half of s3 and only the haas episode of s4 (for gif purposes). i think the first two seasons were good (seeing red best episode of tv ever, closely followed by the next generation), but maybe it was because i didn’t watch those seasons fully? s3 was so weird and after the comments i saw, i wasn’t going to watch s4. i think it was good for promoting f1 into a worldwide audience, but it also brought SO many issues. i’m not going to explain this bc everything has been said already, but… iykyk
14. Which was your first race you watched?
see prev. but from races i actually remember it was 2018 german gp i believe…
23. Is there a driver that you think is underrated?
yeah i think esteban and guanyu are both very underrated !!
52. Which would be the line up of your nightmares?
uh.. p much current rbr team lmao

I am starting to get curious about what Daniel will do at redbull because honestly I don’t really miss him right now. Like I am entertained by what’s going on enough.
But I never followed Daniel that closely either, and the fact that McLaren seems to be nowhere for me there is no missed opportunity on that side.
Even on DTS I enjoyed what I saw of S5 more than S4, I feel ready to see less Daniel (Gunther and Horner too).
I honestly think Daniel will do a lot of sponsor events for RBR/other marketing and various appearances. Like I don't really think he's going to be present at the race track and I'd be surprised if he was heavily featured in social media content (but i also don't count out the possibility of that either

Delta Force RBR S4 Combat Helmet, Mid-1990's
Previous posts on this helmet I've made were technically still work-in-progress, but I'm happy to say I can finally put a lid on this project now.
Only thing I could think to add at this point other than an original 1st Gen. NVG Strap Mount (which is unlikely to happen lol) is maybe some more glint fabric taped on the top of the shell and a Surefire 6P taped to the left side strap, but both of those are entirely optional additions.
Tumblr media
^Partially based on this reference where the battery box and SDU-5/E strobe are visibly velcro'd on either side of the NVG Strap Mount, as opposed to awkwardly tucked underneath it or tacked on over top of it (such as in the references below).

RBR Model S4 Combat Helmet with AN/AVS-6(V)1 Night Vision Goggles and early Davies TASC Headset. Following the Battle of Mogadishu, Delta Force quickly realized they needed to invest in a new combat helmet system, with operators having taken head shots while wearing the non-ballistic Protec Skate Helmets they were accustomed to.
Experience with the USGI PASGT Helmet during Acid Gambit proved it too heavy for their needs, and following influence from DEVGRU at the time, Delta began issuing the British RBR S4 Helmet, a lower-profile, more stable derivative of the PASGT design.
Due to the pronounced brim making it difficult to drill the shell for ANVIS NVG Mounts, several custom strap mounts were cobbled together and distributed. AWS Inc. would later produce a similar mount for Green Berets and AFSOC. The specimen on my helmet is a replica that I've assembled - it needs some improvement, but it works just the same.

The RBR S4 would only be an interim solution, as CGF would introduce the experimental MICH TC2000 helmet in 1998, which quickly supplanted the S4 within the unit and would go on to become adopted as the ACH with the rest of the U.S. Army shortly thereafter.

So I finally went ahead and glued some patches of loop velcro for holding glint tape on my Delta RBR S4 helmet build
Used clear gorilla glue specifically, idk what glue CAG operators used back in the day whenever they weren't using adhesive velcro.
Getting it to stay down was a pain in the ass, but once it cured, it's legitimately just as, if not more solid-feeling than most adhesive velcro.
Only thing now is I'm still deciding how I want to mount the chunky ol' battery pack for the ANVIS Mount
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in the day, a majority of operators just slapped the bitch underneath the top strap and called it a day. It works, but I genuinely hate how precarious and awkward it is like this. Not for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did find an example of an operator with the battery pack mounted properly on the outside, but I believe he's using an AWS NVG Strap Mount with wider version of the rear hook; a big fuck-off plate with velcro on it for the battery pack to interface.
Something I don't have and haven't worked out the resources to replicate, so gotta pass on this method too (for now).

Then I came across this reference, which shows the helmet on the top left with the battery pack offset to one side of the strap while the other side presumably has an SDU-5/E Strobe in its place, much like the example in the second pic.
This is probably what I'll end up going with. It's still a little clumsy, but it won't take too much effort to set up, just gotta glue more velcro on.
More on this later when I get around to gluing.
