Ray doesn't recognize Kon because the last time they met, Kon was still in his 90s look, not civilian attire and whatever this hair situation is. And Kon very graciously is not bringing up that the last time they met, Ray killed him.

...sort of.

Story time!

Ray's cousin talks him into flying them out to Hawaii to meet girls.

A monster emerges from a volcano and begins to wreak havoc.

Ray, already feeling guilty for having used his powers for frivolous reasons, immediately jumps in to fight this guy.

Kon, who has just recently moved to Hawaii, shows up to help out.

Ray really, really doesn't like Kon--not impressed with this child's arrogance, doubts he's really a clone of Superman, and thinks he isn't worthy of his title.

Their egos clash, and they both try to take the lead. Kon is smug and superior, and Ray is dismissive and sarcastic.

Ray finally loses patience and tells Kon exactly what he thinks of him. Kon punches him, and Ray blasts him with energy.

Unfortunately, this uses up most of his powers (it's night now and he can't recharge without a light source).

Even worse, he seems to have killed Kon.

The monster chooses this moment to return. Ray manages to take him down temporarily but depletes his powers completely.

While the monster is distracted elsewhere, Ray, horrified that he has apparently killed Kon, starts to bury him under some rocks.

Kon springs up, still alive, not in full use of his powers, and pretty ticked off.

Ray tries to apologize, and the boys exchange backstories. He starts to have more respect for Kon, and Kon sympathizes with him, although he points out that at least Ray has a childhood to remember, even if it was messed up.

In the middle of this, the Navy shows up and threatens them, thinking they're involved with the monster. Their aircraft provides enough light for Ray to quickly recharge, and the boys return to action.

This time they work together more effectively but end up squabbling again and part on chilly terms. Kon says he hopes Ray gets his act together by the next time they meet, because he's really sick of people killing him.

✨Gluten-Free Struffoli!✨

Struffoli (singular: struffolo) are a traditional christmas dessert here in Naples and the surrounding region! They're small sweet dough balls, deep fried and coated with honey.

They're one of my favorite sweet dishes ever, and they're extremely easy to make, so I'm sharing my recipe. I do them gluten free because I have celiacs, but you can just use all purpose flour instead ofc!!!

500g of flour (I use Schaer's Mix C, but tbh it doesn't matter, any all purpose will do!)

5 eggs

about 40 g of butter

about 75 g of sugar

1 pinch of cinnamon (or more if it's too bland)

grated zest of 1 lemon

grated zest of 1 orange

50 ml of Strega liqueur (a bit of hard liqueur helps with the dough, and this traditional one has a lot of spices, so helps in giving them a nice aroma. You could probably substitute with a more flavourless hard liqueur and add some more aromas on the side imo!)

1 pinch of baking soda

1 pinch of salt (and honey, sprinkles and candied fruit (if you like them) to decorate!)

You just need to mix everything together and make a dough - it should be pretty soft and easy to work with, like play dough. The canonical way to make the lil balls is to roll the pastry into thin sticks, then cut them in half a cm little pieces. In my household we actually roll them into balls, probably because we like to suffer.

Then you deep fry in a small, tall pan full of oil, until they're golden all over. Once the whole batch is done, you can mix them in a big bowl with honey, candied fruit, and sprinkles!
