"I wished I could play the piano. Out of all the things I hated my father for I hated him the most for never finishing teaching me to play before he left.

I'd always loved the sound of those keys, the symphonies, the ballads, the lullabies they could produce. It was something I could never do myself, the music of my soul was trapped and could never be released and for that I couldn't ever forgive him. Yet here I was, moments away from breathing my last, blood "plink, plinking" on those ivory keys, and a melody finally found its way into the world, a song with no words, notes that would never be repeated ever again and I thought to myself "what a shame.." as the world turned black. The last thing I’ll remember is the loud clang as my head hits the keys, announcing the end of my existence."

“You’re back. Where have you been this time darling?” Ominis looked up from the book  he was reading as he heard the floo flame flash. 

Johanna dusted off her clothes, before vanishing the dirt so Deek wouldn’t have to sweep it up. “I was traveling down the coast to Imelda’s new trial. I finally beat her second one. I only came back to put this rare Diricrawl in safekeeping. The lady who asked me to rescue her was practically a poacher herself, kept talking about the clothes she’d make of her feathers.” 

“That’s dreadful.” Ominis said, putting the book down and now turning towards her more. 

“It is. What’s worse is I nearly lost my temper and set her robes on fire. Luckily I only singed the ground.” She said, checking her boots for burns. 

“You and your fire. Odd that my two best friends both have such an affinity for it.” Ominis said with a slight smile. 

“I am fire. Probably why Sebastian was drawn to me. Luckily I have you to cool me down.” She said plopping down next to him and planting a kiss on his cheek. 

He leaned into her, and then paused, taking a whiff of her hair. “ You smell different than normal. I smell blackthorn on you. And the scent of troll, nothing new but it does bother me that you still fight them. Please be careful darling.” 

Ominis then pulled her in for a kiss and when he pulled away she sighed,” Ahh yes the blackthorn. I came across these ancient mazes with treasure hidden within as well as a dark story. Did you know about Eunon Blackwood?” 

“No, do tell me.” He took her hand in his and planted a kiss on the top of it. 

“I actually have the notes here that were left in the mazes. It tells his whole story. You can read them if you’d like.” She said, pulling away to rustle in her small bag. She then placed them in his lap, along with his wand that had been sitting unused on the side table. 

“You know I love hearing you read to me more.” He replied, moving to hand them back to her. 

“I know love, but I really do need to get Gwynerva settled. She’s rather stressed after being chased so much. Do you mind just discussing it after you’ve read it? I am too tired to do anything else right now.” She said, groaning softly as she swiftly stood. 

“Of course dear. Do you need any help tending the beasts? You know I am more than willing to assist.” He moved to get up but she stopped him, a gentle hand on his chest. 

“I would take your offer but it’s rather crowded in there right now and recently the hippogriffs have taken to rushing me as soon as I enter. I’ve been gone so much lately they have missed me. I don’t want you to be overwhelmed.”
