“Imagine that the altar is a giant cauldron. You have cleansed and blessed each element on the altar. Now, you are going to mix them together--meld them, if you will--into a vortex of positive, Divine energy.”
If Avatar: The Last Airbender is any indication, it’s gonna end up being a muddy vortex of mud. Albeit cleansed and blessed mud, but still mud.

“Raise your hands before you, above your head in the Goddess position.”
The what? Seriously. This is the first mention of some “Goddess position”. I’m sticking my hands straight up in the air, is that how I do it? The instructions aren’t very clear. Or, was this something I’m supposed to know from another book of yours?

SO TRUE. This just in: Ravenwolf gets things wildly wrong on the same issues yet again, to the surprise of absolutely no one.
I was just saying it so the newbies among my followers wouldn’t get the wrong idea with future quotes from it. But yes, this isn’t anything new, folks.

All in favor of doing a minimal casual curse on Ravenwolf that only requires reblogs, say “aye”.

“This devotional would be excellent for Sekhmet (the Egyptian Lion-Headed Goddess), Bried (as she is seen as a Celtic Fire Goddess of healing and has a cauldron in some myths), Igaehindvo (Amerindian Sun Goddess), Vesta (Roman Goddess of Fire), Agni (Hindu Fire God), Nusku (Babylonian Fire God), or Taranis (Continental Celtic God of Lightning and Shrines).”
Or you can keep your nose out of Siberian indigenous people’s pantheons instead, hmm?
So, Taranis is (supposedly) a god of shrines. If you put up a shrine for him, he’s definitely the god of that. And any other shrine you put up. Even if the owners of those shrines don’t want him to be. It’s his now. He called dibs thanks to Ravenwolf’s epithet.

“I take a long shower or ritual bath (so I will not be bleary-eyed again, this time with exhaustion) before the devotional.”
Oh, so it wasn’t that kneel-blab-shower makes for a crappy devotional, it’s that it’s out of order! It’s supposed to be shower-kneel-blab. Gotcha.

It’s like an infomercial. You wanna be done with it, but then you get slammed with the problematic equivalent of “BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!”

“Where the Witch is, the place is sacred. This follows the premise that if you are living a life of harmony and following the Wiccan Rede of ‘an it harm none,’ you are operating in sacred space.”
"In meditation, greet the nature spirits (or Devas) of your property.”
Deva being a type of Hindu entity. The hypocrisy on this page is awful. We’re still on the page with the damn “I can appropriate because pantheism!” bit.

I come back to tumblr and the first thing I saw was the womb of the goddess bit and I'm screaming. Kudos to you for sticking with it after that oh my god
Please don’t scream. Alternative health care enthusiasts screamed for years in our stead, if this book is to be believed.

“A daily devotion isn’t kneel, blab, run off to the shower.”
Right, because (Neo-)Wiccans can’t possibly have busy days where that’s all that’s practical.

I knew someone way back when said that Llewellyn authors were just in it for the money, but this is just ridiculous!
