How long have you been here again? A couple days, a month... maybe a year? Longer? Every now and again, you find yourself scratching at your head and wondering. You look at the crystal chandeliers and the beautifully decorated ballroom — you are certain this didn't always feel like home? It is likely that you know this manor better than the one you grew up in, the one you spent your life in before you arrived here. You could walk this entire building in the dark. In fact, you might have to.

When disaster strikes and worry fades, the questions begin. With guests gathered in the lobby, Mr. Enright announces that the power, for one reason or another, has been cut. Now, don't fret, dear patrons, certainly there should be a way to fix this. It's just a matter of figuring out what, exactly, that is.

The whispers start, as do the rumors. Perhaps the power will never come back, an indefinite eternity to spend in the dark. As the volume begins to bubble in the space, so the the shared stories among those gathered. Some claim to have been unlucky enough to be in the basement when the lights when out, searching for something that was forgotten. Others were enjoying a drink in the lounge, and the most fortunate of the lot seeming to be those who had been in the rooftop garden — completely unaware that the electricity had abandoned them until they wandered back inside.

001. MADNESS TAKES ITS TOLL! The Lobby. — Single candles sit in various places around the room. They cast long shadows on the walls and across the floors, their flames catching the breeze of someone passing by and threatening, for a moment, to completely diminish. Wouldn't that be terrible? To be so completely in the dark? This room is eerie enough when there is electricity; the slight buzzing that comes from the chandelier hanging above, not to mention the fact that there's never someone behind the front desk. Are you certain that was your own shadow in your peripheral vision or something else entirely? Did the darkness let something else in too?

Something on the front desk catches your attention, distracts you from your spiraling thoughts. There, with no explanation, sits an oddly organized stack of letters. Why not take a look? Fingering through the heavy paper, you find one with your own name written on it. Are you going to take the letter with you or leave it? Come now, you have to make a decision, you cannot just stand there forever.

002. I ALWAYS FEEL LIKE SOMEBODY'S WATCHING ME! The Basement. You've ventured into the basement? How very brave. This area, always dimly lit with emergency lights that don't quite work, is breathtakingly quiet. There is no whirring of the water pump or general hum of the washing machines that you know have to be down here somewhere (you've heard them before). What is it you're looking for again? Oh, the electricity box. Well, if you thought finding the laundry room was difficult, best of luck to you in your attempt to find the box amongst the junk stored down here. Don't get distracted by all the interesting objects; they may not be what they seem when the power returns.

003. IT'S WHERE MY DEMONS HIDE! The Bar & Lounge. The bar and lounge are easier to be in then most places now; typically darkened so it's not too different and sporting a more mellow atmosphere than the rest of the house. Yet, the change is felt here too. The quiet musak that seems to always fill the space has gone silent, apparently having run on electricity as well. The only sounds here are quiet whispers, the occasional clink of a glass settling onto a wooden tabletop, and ice cubes being knocked around in amber liquid. Perhaps a drink will help you find rest, sleep through this nightmare. Perhaps when you awaken again, all will be as it was — or, at least, as it had been.

ALIAS : dismas ABOUT : 27, any, EST -ALSO, have y’all played the Cube Escape/Rusty Lake games? this site is giving me major vibes of that and i absolutely love it!  TROPES YOU LOVE :  (i am always terrible at these pls don’t perceive) aaahhh the best friends who don’t realize they’re in love with each other, person thinking they’re suave but they’re actually just dumb, honestly just dumb disasters in general, lying about the past and woops! it gets revealed at some point, elmofire.gif TROPES YOU’D LIKE TO EXPLORE : hhmmmm surprisingly enough enemies to lovers? legit not something i’ve done before lmao it’s either awkwardly looking in the distance, everyone has brick in their heads, ooooorrr they managed to make a confession or something idk. i’d also kinda like to explore a more cat-and-mouse sort of relationship where either one or both have the means to kill the other but they’ve decided not to idk it’s late my brain is mush THINGS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE ON SITE : i’m honestly excited to see the shenanigans the hotel is gunna throw at the guests! but, also how all the characters are going to be interacting with each other! and causing chaos SOMETHING THAT YOU REALLY ENJOY : i love all sorts of plots but also anything with angst and drama pls & ty ANY GENERAL CHARACTER IDEAS : SO, uh, still refining the concept but what i’ve got so far is a conman from maybe the 1970s-1980s who’s posing as some journalist/reporter who winds up at the hotel after a weird flood blocks his path back to wherever he was going, idk. he’s playing up the part of an almost stereotypical obsessed and boisterous fella “looking for the truth” (except lol he has no idea wtf is even going on). think: is loud, hotheaded, reckless, and smokes as though he still has a good supply of cigarettes left. in reality he’s someone else but it’s not like that’s gunna be revealed to anyone anytime soon, right? as i said work in progress hdasbhkhfdb i swear i’m okay at writing @ravenhousehq

Avatars should be set to 440x840px and square images to 600x600px for best quality. The aesthetic images will automatically crop and resize, but we encourage you to use 400x400px or larger.

In addition to quick profile fields (such as relevant names, years, and locations), our application is made up of series of questions and a shipper. The questions are:

WHO ARE YOU? Consider this your freestyle! Use it to tell us a bit about your character.

WHERE & WHEN DID YOU CHECK IN? Everyone starts their story somewhere, even if they all end up here. Where was The Raven House when your character checked in, and what did they think it was? Why were they staying there? Do they remember what year it was?

WHAT WENT WRONG? It would be easy to say the trip didn’t go as planned, as no one plans to end up here, but even before they opened your door and realized they were somewhere new, something had gone haywire. What was it?

WHY WERE YOU BROUGHT HERE? It’s not so random as it seems. They were brought here for a reason, though heavily obscured, and part of it is because of who they are. They exemplify one of five traits, even though you don’t realize it. Which trait is it and why were they characterized as such?

WHICH ITEM IN YOUR POSSESSION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT? It’s an old exercise. You have to leave home, you can pack a small bag, what’s the one thing you’re sure to take with you? Except it wasn’t just an exercise, they actually did it, even if they didn’t realize they wouldn’t be going home again. Luckily, they brought something that has some value to you. So… which is it?

There is an additional field, ...AND WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?, that is present on the profile but will not need to be filled out prior to acceptance. This will be used for periodic updates to the profiles to reflect the impact of the plot on them!

TROPES YOU’D LIKE TO EXPLORE : listen i just really vibe with the whole "you know them, but you don't know them" situation!!! i just want a space full of people who can see one another in the street and wave or sit down and have a coffee, but one of them is like ... running an underground drug ring and the other is literally using their last few dollars to get this coffee but neither is none the wiser ... i just have a lot of FEELINGS ! 

THINGS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE ON SITE : honestly, i’m super excited to see what our players bring to the table! i can’t wait to interact and write with you all, i’m BUZZING

SOMETHING THAT YOU REALLY ENJOY : something that i’ve found i really enjoy lately is coloring on my ipad? not having the stress of picking specific colors and using literally any color in the spectrum is super relaxing to me? i’m working on a hippo sheet right now!!

ohey! so a quick question about a potential character idea & the plot: is it plausible that someone winds up at the hotel due to trying to find it, whether specifically or vaguely? it could be sort of wishy-washy as to how they actually did manage to wind up there (cue that scene from The Emperor's New Groove- "By all accounts it doesn't make sense!") but i was just curious if such a thing was plausible!

GOOD MORNING! After a brief discussion between the admins, we're going to say no, it's not possible to find the hotel intentionally. Part of the reason for this is that the real world doesn't know The Raven House exists, there is no record of it anywhere, so someone wouldn't even know to begin looking. The closest to this we could see allowing is someone ending up at The Raven House after looking into disappearances where the last known location was a hotel. However, their looking into this would not be the cause of their arrival, as they still would need to reflect one of the traits, like all other guests, and have something go wrong during their travels. Please let us know if you have any further questions!
