a/n: This has been sitting in my notes app since dec 2023, and after more than a year, I finally took the time to finish and refine it. To those reading this, I hope you find a love as deep and beautiful as the one I tried to capture in this oneshot. Enjoy~

Zhanghao is meticulous, to say the least—and a nagger, at most. His love is woven into the fabric of everyday moments, stitched together with gentle reprimands and unwavering attention. He is the kind of person who wakes up an hour earlier just to prepare breakfast, the scent of eggs and toast curling into the sleepy edges of morning. He moves about the kitchen with practiced ease, rolling up the sleeves of his sweater, and the soft fabric bunched just above his elbows.

When you stumble out of the bedroom, hair tousled and mind still foggy with sleep, he barely glances up before setting a plate on the table. The golden yolk of the egg gleams under the light, and the toast crisped to the precise shade he knows you like. His movements are fluid, effortless, but there’s intent behind every small act—the way he adjusts your coffee so the handle faces just right, the way he smooths a hand over the table as if ensuring it’s all perfect before you sit.

But when you glance at the time and hastily reach for your bag, muttering about how you’re late, that’s when his firm yet familiar insistence begins.

He blocks the door with an ease that suggests he has done this a thousand times before. The warmth of his hand on your wrist is firm but never forceful, guiding rather than demanding. His lips press into a thin line as he sighs, the kind of exasperated sound laced with affection. He doesn’t say much—he doesn’t have to. The weight of his gaze alone is enough to make your shoulders slump in defeat.

"Sit," he commands, nudging you toward the dining table. "You’re not leaving on an empty stomach."

You sigh but comply, dropping into the chair with a grumble. He watches you like it’s a quiet victory, arms crossed as he leans against the counter, his expression caught somewhere between fondness and frustration. The sunlight catches the edges of his face, illuminating the gentle curve of his mouth, the way his eyes soften when you take the first bite. He does not gloat. He simply waits, presence steady, constant, familiar.

"See? Not so bad," he muses, propping his chin on his hand. "I knew you’d listen to me."

"You didn’t give me much of a choice," you mumble through a mouthful of toast.

Zhanghao scoffs but lets it go. Instead, he reaches over and steals a bite from your plate, utterly unbothered by your dramatic gasp of betrayal.

Zhanghao is a collector of lost things—your misplaced car keys, the scarf you swear was in your bag but somehow ended up in the fridge, the phone that always vanishes when you need it most. He moves through your space like a quiet storm, retrieving things before you even realize they’re missing.

"You’d lose your head if it wasn’t attached to your body," he mutters, pulling your phone from the bookshelf with a knowing look. He doesn’t hand it to you right away. Instead, he lingers, his thumb brushing absently over the screen, his expression unreadable. When he finally steps forward, he tucks a stray strand of hair behind your ear before pressing the device into your palm.

It is moments like this that make you understand him best—not through the words he speaks, but through the things he does. The way his hand lingers for half a second too long, the way he exhales as if he has been holding something in, the way he turns away before you can catch the full extent of whatever expression flickers across his face.

He may speak in sighs and soft reprimands, but at the heart of it, it is never just about forgetfulness or carelessness. It is about love—persistent, steady, and always finding its way back to you.

While the small kitchen in his quarters was perfectly functional, the lack of tea - his own fault, really - drove him to venture out into the main kitchen to see what he could find. Rohir was simply going to grab a bag or two and head back to his quarters, but when he saw her sitting alone, he... couldn't help but offer his company.

He was pleasantly surprised she accepted his offer, though quickly realized he... actually didn't know her name. She was new - that much he knew - but... he hadn't quite had the chance to be introduced properly to everyone at the compound. A shame, really, but it would happen in time. For now, he was content trying to... trying to reconnect with his sister and former mentor.

Gods, he wished he could remember more about them.

But Eclipsis shoved those thoughts aside as he offered a kind smile - the corners of his eyes crinkling. "'Tis quite alright, miss," he assured. "I can understand your technology well enough to boil some water." Amusement danced in his eyes, though who was he to refuse her help? He could hear the guilt in her hoarse voice, and his heart went out to her. It would be nice to have the company, if he were being honest, and he simply kept his smile as he limped into the kitchen. "But I will gladly take your help on deciding on what tea to make."

"Ah, a few things," he admitted. "The usual aches and pains, 'm afraid, and the unfamiliarity of it all. Still a strange place, this compound, thougn not... terrible." Sterile, perhaps. Void of personality and warmth in some areas. His quarters were... one of those areas. The bed was comfortable and he had what he needed (aside from tea, that is), but it made him nervous. It was far too quiet for his liking. It gave him too much time with his own thoughts and broken mind to make him feel even a tad bit at ease. But those were things he needn't bother her with - not when it was clear she was struggling with her own issues as it was.

Rohir glanced back to her as she mentioned Ivalice, and he nodded. "Aye, I am. Name's Rohir." He paused - a twinge in his chest that caused his brow to crease slightly. "Or Eclipsis. Both are all the same, really, but I am Ashe's brother." Was he still her brother even if it didn't feel right to call himself that anymore? Gods, in his heart he knew Ashelia as kin, yet... she almost felt more of a known stranger than his own sister.

His mind was distracted as his companion mentioned her own homeland, and sympathy filled Eclipsis' expression. Sokovia was yet another place he didn't recognize, but he knew better than to ask. It was clear she didn't want to talk about it, and he was not one to pry into painful matters. She was displaced just as he was - she deserved the same kindness he wished to receive. "I am sorry," Rohir said softly. "If... if there is anything I can do, you are welcome to tell me." Was that too much to offer to someone he barely just met? He wasn't certain, but... it felt right to offer, at least, and it would be something he wouldn't push, either.

"If I may, what keeps you up?" he asked as filled the kettle before he returned it to the stovetop. He eyed it hesitantly as he set it down, and cautiously turned on one of the burners - looking rather pleased with himself as the one he hoped was right lit aglow. "And, my apologies, but 'm afriand I haven't caught your name yet."

Drow Name Tables

Something I did as a special favor to @kimmurielsscryingmirror (@eldritchmist ) who showed interest. Because it’s...pretty big I decided to make it into it’s own post.

These are a few Drow naming tables that were originally found in an issue of Dragon Magazine. It’s two d100 tables of prefixes and suffixes commonly used in first names. The second couple of tables is a list of common house name prefixes and suffixes.

EDIT: Just a little something for those who care which I didn’t add before because it took me so long to finish the transcription I just wanted to post it lol. The gender difference is noted in the related Dragon Magazine article as being significant. Non Drow may not notice but a Drow will notice the difference. Female names sometimes borrow parts that are normally only considered male and this is considered fine...but a male with a name that borrows a typically only female part would be seen as extremely taboo.
