What is "Sa'idi" dance? As belly dancers, we refer to a dance performed to music from the Said region (upper/Southern Egypt) as sa'idi. The more correct name for this dance is raqs-al-assaya/raqs-al-assayah. Read more here!

Went to a workshop with Karim Nagi last weekend and got SO INSPIRED! If anyone gets a chance to learn with him DO IT!  He is an ambassador for the dance, music, and culture. Much of the lessons emphasized history and context plus good technique and practice drills! I even went out and bought a riqq (tambourine) after to practice the rhythms I learned.  And now I’m in love with “Everybody Dabke” from his Detour album. A dabke song about dabke... hala!
