Hardfloor - “Trancescript” Harthouse Retrospective Part 1 - 4 Song released in 1993. Compilation released in 1998. Acid Techno / Acid House
Hardfloor is the inimitable German electronic duo of Ramon Zenker and Oliver Bondzio. The two are known for their wonderfully layered creations and their masterful use of the Roland TB-303 bass synthesizer, which produces the squelchy acid sound. They have used up to six TB-303s at one time and are known to modify them in order to create new and unique acid sounds.
With their TB-303 expertise, Zenker and Bondzio were at the forefront of the German acid house scene, and were one of the acts to pioneer it. As acid house seemed to die out, Hardfloor have dabbled in other areas of electronic music, experimenting with trip hop, IDM, electro, breaks, hip hop, and downtempo styles. The pair have their own label and continue to release music to this day. They have an uncanny ability to adapt in order to stay relevant and remain fresh. They have been a force to be reckoned with for almost 30 years now.
Zenker and Bondzio hail from neighboring towns in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and released their first music in 1991 on Eye-Q Records. 1992 saw the release of their biggest hit, “Acperience,” which was then followed by another hit called “Trancescript” in 1993. Both managed to chart in the UK, which was somewhat of a rare feat for German electronic dance musicians.
"Trancescript” is a great piece of 8 plus minutes of acid techno. Zenker and Bondzio begin with a kick drum and squelches and progressively build a groove. They add a bunch of percussive elements along with more squelching layers and some chimes. At the 3:38 mark, they crown their groove with a noisy, almost distorted lead squelching rhythm. A little more than halfway through, we get a bit of a breakdown and the two add in a bunch of anticipation-building, slowly climbing strings. The strings eventually fade and the chimes return, which then leads back into the original groove. The final minute consists of Hardfloor playing with their squelches by stretching them out and distorting them, which generates quite an interesting and experimental rhythm to close out.
This description doesn’t do justice to what these two men created. It’s a very layered, complex, and intricately woven piece of dance music. A great example of expertly crafted techno.

OUT NOW my remix for the historical 90’s techno hit project: Interactive “The Techno Wave” by @jenslissat_official @ramonzenker on @studio3000records 30 Years ago, the Studio Project INTERACTIVE was born. Jens Lissat had met Ramon Zenker before this band-project already. Jens was a resident DJ in a club in Krefeld, the legendary Königsburg. He left the club to work for another club, but after a few months he returned and offered the owner to release a track, just for the Königsburg. Jens and Ramon produced The Techno Wave and the name for this band-project was the beginning of history. INTERACTIVE became famous in the Techno Circuit. We celebrate the 30 Years jubilee with a Remix Package. Drumcomplex is the man of the moment in the Techno League and you can hear why, in his interpretation. Jens Lissat teamed up for a Remix with his studio partner Christoph Pauly and their remix is makin' you going nuts. The third remix is coming from the italian techno star producer SISKO ELECTROFANATIK, with a powerful arp-sequenced version. Let's celebrate 30 years of TECHNO WAVE! The Terminator (1984-1991-2003)
Tumblr media

HRDFLR - Channel
Official Hardfloor Youtube Channel. Acid, House and Techno changed the landscape of the German music scene ever since the end of the eighties. Producer Ramon Zenker (born 11.11.1969) and DJ Oliver Bondzio (born 7.29.1967) were ahead of this new movement right from the start. In 1991 they formed Hardfloor and had their first success with the release „Once Again Back/Drug Overlord" on the well-known label Eye Q. Only a few months later Hardfloor released their „Hardtrance Acperience EP" on Sven Väth ´s cult status label Harthouse. This EP made them famous for their innovative sound far beyond European boundaries, the song „Acperience 1", which even made its way into the UK charts, is still one of the milestones of Techno culture.

I know, I am basically using modern trance/techno/electronic music from Europe as an umbrella term for every machine musician who did not move within either big beat or trip hop from the 90’s on. However, we can agree there were two strands of mechanical tunes back then and one of them owed more to the mainland developments of idioms, such as trance. Fragma, for instance, might be one of the best examples of this fact, they’re practically a collective of producers in the disguise of a pop group. Their songs from the naughts managed to capture the charts, but that shouldn’t surprise us. They transformed the dancefloor patterns of their genres into a form of a pop song. Of course, they were far from the only ones during that period, yet they were a part of the few who succeeded a lot.
