chris isn't stupid. and he'd never overstep a boundary with his best friend. he forces a laugh, a very uncomfortable one, before defending himself. "what? nah, man.. she's your girl."

and yeah, chris isn't stupid, but neither is josh. "oh, come on, dude! don't act like you haven't noticed how hot she is. i see the way you look at her sometimes."

chris finally met josh's gaze again, seeing if he was joking. was it really that obvious..? he tries to shrug it off, the subtle and nervous bouncing of his leg giving away more than he intended. "i have no idea what you're talking about."

josh was silent for a moment, watching the slight panic on his best friend's face, but he quietly dismisses it, laughing to himself as he leans back in his chair. "relax, cochise! just messin' with you, man."

that was a lie. not even a minute later, josh is picking up his phone, tapping the screen a few times before setting it down in his lap and putting it on speaker.

chris's heart dropped. “hey— dude, what are you doing?”

Jazz Bar Evening

I had some fun with this. Honestly, dancing together is so incredibly romantic, you have no idea. (Or you might have, I don't know your lives) I used a bit of creative freedom on this as well. They're in a jazz bar, lighting low, clothing classy and pretty. And Josh got that rich kid thing about him. Aka, he has money, dresses appropriately and knows how to dance. “Of course we can, you have a job so you can pay for it” he shrugs, eyeing me up and down. I think he sees the smirk, even though it’s hidden behind the red liquid. I sit myself back a little, making some space between us. 

“I need to create some distance, or else all the other men here will think we’re together”

I shove myself back beside him, the action small, but still significant. I love being close to him, and a classy place like this? When he looks that good, and the lighting? I need to be near him. 

The bartender comes over again, making us pay for the drink. Josh pays first, his card already out. In the meantime, I reach down in my purse, getting mine out. The bartender types the amount, handing me the machine. As I’m about to tap the card, Josh beats me, using his own and letting the payment get through. I look over surprisingly, waiting for an explanation. 

“Look who decided to be a gentleman” 

“Maybe I’ll ask for something in return” he smirks, putting the card back in his pocket. I give him a small look, trying to figure out if he’s joking or not, but he just keeps smirking, taking a sip of his drink while I watch. 

“You think you can buy me with one glass of wine, Joshy?” 

“I thought you were easy” I give a laugh, his comment a bit on the bolder side. Oh, how dare he. 

“Really, I mean, even without the drink I would’ve said yes, but now…” 

“Wait, what?” 

“You just lost” I smile, taking a sip, feeling the strong fruit on my tongue. 

“Damn you, if I knew that-”

“Then we wouldn’t be here, but probably back at your place” 

The lighting makes it hard to see if anyone’s blushing, though I know that I am. We are used to joking around with each other, but this is the first time I’ve been so up front with him. Maybe he catches the hint? 

“Well, at least I paid for it” he whispers, one hand on the bar table, small veins showing. I study his form. I’ve seen what’s underneath that beautiful shirt, and those black suit pants. He also lets out a low scoff, but it’s almost unnoticeable, and I don’t think the other guy heard it. I turn, meeting the eyes of the stranger. He’s handsome, not my type, but objectively pretty. 

“Sorry, I’m here with someone” I smile back, and he gives a small nod. 

“So, no drink then?” 

A hand slithers around my waist, Josh’s head coming up and resting on my naked shoulder. I almost let out a gasp from the surprise. His lips leave a small kiss on my cheek, causing my eyes to widen, his hand pulling me closer against his front. 

“I’ll be buying her drinks tonight, bro” 

“Oh, okay then, excuse me” He says, tone low and a bit disappointed. He turns on his heel and leaves, walking back to a table with his buddies. I lift my head to meet his face, his eyes already on me.

We stare at each other in silence, the only sound being the beautiful jazz music surrounding us. No matter how hard I look at him, how much my gaze shifts from his lips to his eyes, he doesn’t let go. 

“Josh…” 

He grunts, clearing his throat before letting me go. I take a breath. It feels like I’ve forgotten how to breathe during the last minute, chest heaving and spine shivering. Gosh, if he was looking down right now, he’d get a perfect view of my breasts. Just because I was going out with him tonight, I decided not to wear a bra, and since the dress is a little bit skimpy, not much, just a little, the lighting makes them look so good down there. I've been thinking a lot about Jossam lately, totally obsessed, and I've come up with some headcanons!

• Josh is a film enthusiast, and this is clear as a crystal. Just like that fact, he loves Sam. They say every artist has their muse, their inspiration—and for some, it's distant people, historical figures, or even actors or musicians. Josh is no different; he has his muse, and luckily for him, it's his sister’s best friend.

• Josh is an artist. He loves working on small film projects to tell little stories he's written. Of course, he always finds a way to get his friends involved, whether it’s Jess playing a Carrie remake or Emily as a masked killer... But none of them came close to being in as many projects as Sam. Josh always put Samantha Giddings in his films. She was always the lead, the final girl, the one who gets the guy at the end, the princess, the superhero—because that’s who she was and always had been to him, the protagonist of his life.

• Sam loved being part of those amateur films. She always thought Josh's artistic vision was beautiful, even if that wasn’t the reason she kept doing it. She loved listening to him talk about his ideas, loved how focused he became, loved hearing him go into detail about every little thing he had in mind. His mind fascinated her. She was in love with everything he did, in love with him, which, on its own, made everything he had to offer—even the "little things"—feel magical.

• One time, a town fair caught Sam’s attention. It was an animation competition, and when she read about it in the paper, the first person who came to mind was Josh Washington. Well, she was the girl who did the drawings, but he was the guy who handled everything else. Maybe it was her way of trying to spend more time with him. Maybe that feeling made her call him and tell him about it, and maybe it was his own desire to spend more time with her that made him agree instantly.

• They didn’t win first place in the competition, instead placing third and getting a silly plastic trophy for both of them. Regardless of the result, they were happy. Spending that time together was probably what they needed to understand their feelings for each other—even if they hadn’t admitted them yet. Everything seemed to be falling into place... until the anniversary of the twins’ disappearance came around, and with that... well, you know the story.

okay ik i missed the perfect opportunity to present this on halloween but i can’t shake the thought so hear me out☝️

the entire museum would totally put together a halloween event. it starts off sort of like a haunted house where people pay and go inside in groups. and all the exhibits really lean into the whole we come alive at night thing.

they go through each section getting scared all leading up to Ahks section in the museum, they make him the main event after all it’d be a crime not to make the pharaoh- The king as the big finish, they have him in his mummy wraps and he pops out of his sarcophagus to scare the group that enters back into the main hall.

leading to the real finale where all the exhibits come together and perform a dance to Thriller.
