Good morning, and what a morning! I am sitting with my muesli and green tea watching the clouds scurrying by, revealing a beautiful blue sky. A quick look at the weather app states a high of 4 degrees, quite honestly, I care more about a light bright day. The last week of January and apart from the usual format to my week: class, friends for coffee etc, I visited the dentist for a filling. Dr Brown was not as forthcoming with his English as he had been on my first visit but hey at least I had to concentrate on answering his French. It was the AGM for the knitting group on Tuesday evening. It had been in my diary since Adam was a lad, well perhaps not that long but months anyway, with a start time of 18.30. I dutifully arrived at the venue at 18.12 – very few cars in the car park and no-one around so I hung around by the gates until just after 18.25 then decided to go into the building. Imagine my shock and horror when I found out the meeting was well underway! I apologised for being late and tried to slink into the room. Not very easy when you are a tall lady dressed up like Nanook of the North! My friends were so glad that I had arrived they were almost cheering. Five minutes later the meeting was over and it was time for the main event: Champagne and Galette. Well two and half glasses and one and half slices of galette later I was back home. I have seemed to have the “bit between my teeth” a lot this week. I went and had new photos taken to attach to my Second Application to exchange my driving licence. After completing these second set of forms I think perhaps there had been errors on the original forms, which in my book, is still no reason to have received NOTHING AT ALL from the department and it is 8 months since I first applied. Perhaps this new application (if fully correct) will be actioned quicker. I have now received the Avis de Reception which shows that the documents have arrived at the Prefecture. Wednesday afternoon saw me at my knitting group. I did “show and tell” with the green jumper I had made and they were all pleased with it. Then we had laughs galore. The ladies now know that I can take a bit of a joke and we all happy to indulge in this good humour. It had snowed in the morning but by lunchtime it was thawing quickly so underfoot the journey was ok for me. So Friday being the 1st of February saw me going to class with Monique in the afternoon. She had prepared “crepe” mix, brought chocolate sauce (my son would have loved that)and homemade confiture (which I have noticed is always on the runny side). Anyway it turns out that 2nd February is Chandleur in France (Pancake Day). At night, my town was the first stage stop on the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique which had set off from Reims earlier in the evening. I saw it last year, when it was pouring with rain and I felt rather unwell. This year, however, I left home at 21.15 it was cold (but not freezing) and was damp and I eventually dragged myself home an hour or so later. I would have stayed longer but having been stood opposite the Pizzeria I had got it into my head to cook myself a quarter of pizza when I got in. Saturday I had a few plans, pay the rent, post a letter, have a coffee and read the paper at the bar. I did the first one, then headed off for the third arriving at the bar around 11.20. There was an English couple in there whose car had broken down. We had a chat……...I got home at 15.40 for my lunch. I popped down later and we chatted some more. It filled their time in and it was a lovely for me too. As the bar is closed until 19.30 this evening (Sunday) I have invited them to my home for coffee. To be honest if I don’t get a move on they will be here and I will still be in night clothes. Bon dimanche.
