I'm making a scarf with some new yarn that I didn't need but it was cheap and pretty

I got approved to sell at this summer's farmers market (where I will be selling this scarf, among many other things)

I'm puppy-sitting for my sister, and he's incredibly dumb but also very baby and he does make me happy

I finally got my brain to accept the fact that I can do my ghostwriting work at a pace that doesn't make my brain feel like it's melting, and can just get other stuff done in between writing bouts, so the day isn't a complete wash if I slow down

gonna get a new leg brace 'cause this one's falling apart, and it might finally fix a weird issue I've been having

Absolutely! Solas is wrong. What the elves have done is incredible. It matters less what all this stuff used to mean, it matters what it means now. The elves have put themselves back together and it is part of Solas' tragedy that he cannot see the brilliance in the current, only the burden of the past.

which OC is on your mind the most lately? (ramble time! )

well, Edge and Shaicarus are basically always on my mind to some degree. Edge is the main protagonist of my Eigengrau wip and Shaicarus is ... a protagonist (it's an ensemble cast) in Threshold. right NOW, specifically, though, the UnChosen polycule is on my mind.

I don't think I've said anything about UnChosen (very much a working title) on tumblr because so far there's not much of it to talk about. Eden is nominally the main protagonist, but the chapters are going to switch perspectives. there's also Layne, Janis, and Zephyr. it's kind of a medieval fantasy setting with weird magic rules. magic can be done by just about anyone with enough time to craft the spells, learn the incantation, and gather the supplies, but it's a very slow process. magic is only "innate" to people who are chosen by one of the several gods presiding over the world.

Eden and Layne grew up together in a small town that is basically a cult commune. they grew up learning that anyone chosen by a god is chosen because they either have done something or are going to do something to deeply offend the god they are chosen by, and so they get chosen in order to offer penance. as such, anyone who is chosen is shunned by the entire town, until such a time as they are no longer chosen (this has never happened) lest they spread the god's unrest to others. Eden and Layne were close friends as kids, but Layne left as a teenager because a much young boy was chosen and Layne took it upon herself to get him the fuck out of Dodge. she asked Eden to help, but he turned her down and stayed behind. and then several years later Eden gets chosen, realizes what this mean, and fucking books it out of town. he runs into Layne again largely on accident making his way towards one of the nearest towns. much of Eden's journey throughout the story is A. figuring out WHY he was chosen (he is not expecting the answer he gets), B. doing whatever is being asked of him that led to the choosing, and C. convincing his patron to un-choose him.

Layne is sort of acting as a mercenary when Eden runs into her again, though she's generally a bit too soft-hearted for the job and does a lot of pro bono work. especially at that point, as the town Eden finds her in has existed for about twelve minutes, full of refugees from a town that Eden's new patron burned to ash a few weeks ago (it was not intentional). she spends a few minutes considering giving Eden shit about the past when he comes wandering into town before she decides that's not really who she wants to be, and also she doesn't want to have to explain to her newest shadow why she's suddenly decided to be an asshole, so she welcomes Eden pretty warmly, all things considered. she tags along with Eden once he figures out WHY he was chosen, because it's a sensitive matter that Layne isn't going to let go unaddressed, and she winds up having her own spiritual journey over the course of it.

Layne's 'newest shadow' is Janis. they're a hunter who moonlights as a merc when people need errands run that are a bit too dangerous for Jane The Seamstress or Todd The Cobbler to do on their own. how Janis and Layne met is prolonged and awkward, due in large part to the fact that Janis is literally cursed. between the new moon and full moon, they can only tell the truth. between the full moon and new moon, they can only lie. Layne and eventually Eden and Zephyr fgure out a reliable way to talk to Janis when they're literally incapable of speaking truthfully, but for the most part they just don't talk much between the full and new moon, and instead rely a lot on grunting and gesticulating. they're also the poster child for the 'kind, but not necessarily nice' archetype, since even when they can tell the truth, they're a jaded, blunt, kind of caustic snarker who nevertheless can't sit by and watch someone in trouble, and they spend a lot of the story attempting to avoid their whole 'discovering who they are' story because it is distracting them from breaking their curse.

also Layne and Janis have already been fucking like rabbits for a while at this point

and Zephyr is actually one of the gods. he's widely regarded as the kindest of them, though in reality there are others that are kinder, he's just the most personable and the most willing to directly interact with humans benevolently (or at least benignly). (he is not Eden's patron.) he starts tagging along once it becomes clear they're all woefully out of their depth for what they're trying to do, initially under the guise of 'well, if someone can mess with Eden's patron the way they are, they can mess with the others, though it becomes clear later on he's helping because he regards Eden's patron as a brother, though his stated desire of protecting them is still true. he, reluctantly, finds their hapless asses very charming.

Do you make your bed? I make my bed immediately after I clean my sheets, and then it gets unmade that night and remains unmade until I clean my sheets again.

Favorite number? 8. I started counting things obsessively when I was 8, and that just kinda stuck with me.

Job? Partially a freelance writer and editor, partially a small business owner. Anyone who follows me has seen me advertising my Etsy shop.

Can you parallel park? Theoretically yes, but I've refused to do so since I took my driving test, so probably not.

Do you think aliens are real? I think they're real in that I think there's something else out there in the universe, but I don't think they've come to Earth, and they may very well come in a form we'd barely recognize as life.

Drive a manual car? Nope. I drive with hand controls, so I have to drive an automatic.

Guilty pleasure? Really cheap ramen, really cheap boxed maccy cheese, really cheap canned chili. There's a trend of 'really cheap, unhealthy food' here.

Tattoos? Nope. Between my neuro-spinal disorder and my diabetes, I heal like shit and scar terribly, so I'm not even gonna test it out.

Favorite color? Sometimes purple, sometimes teal. I like them in combination, too. Like, purple as an accent color for teal, or teal as an accent for purple.

Do you like puzzles? Some!

Any phobias? Spiders, bugs, the dark, heights, embarrassment.

Favorite childhood sports? Ehhh, I didn't really play any. The schools I went to weren't really equipped to modify things for disabled kids, so I was relegated to either the bleachers or the weight room.

Do you talk to yourself? Oh god yes. I remember things best if I've explained them out loud and I hate knowing if I've gotten something, so I explain things to myself all the time, like I'm talking to another person, facial expressions and gesticulations and all. It started happening even more once COVID started because I'm moderately immunocompromised and was trapped in my house.

they've always been in love, from the moment they met as boys, from the moment their eyes locked and moth performed his second shape-shifting, they have been irrevocably unable to be separated. Always in each other's lives. Always in each other's spaces. Their love for each other is unconditional, and ever lasting

Even separated as they are now, they cant stop thinking about each other - 'half of each other's soul' as the poets say, they cant stop being in love, even though it comes at a great cost

Moth would collect for his love ancient and mysterious ingredients and reagents - he'd bottle up souls and tie them neatly with little bows, even at the risk of making his own lich angry Argos would design the most elaborate, the most beautiful spells for safety, for protection - he would fill entire spell books in order to create the most intricate and permanent spells he could think of to keep his lover safe

they'd take their gifts, the spells, the souls, etc. and weave them with purpose into bracelets so they'd always have something of the other with them at all times even if they were (unlikely) apart

cuddling is a close second - to be able to breathe in their loved one's scent and warmth, and know that they're safe, they're safe, they're safe - to whisper words into their skin, and trace patterns with nails that'll quickly fade away and know they're real, they're there... hands clasped tightly together, cuddling is a close second

Shai is still very Failbetter-y, for as much as they're largely an original fiction character now, so a lot of their dreams are supernatural, depending on what world they're in at any given moment. They suspect their dreams are why their appearance has gradually changed, and they sort of morbidly want to track how far it goes. However, they also get about 8 hours of sleep in a week because they also frequently dream about going home and they collect stimulants. They don't want to go home.

Ash dreams of his dad. Mostly his dad's shadow, flying overhead.

Amity, Saoirse, Roman, and Garen all have almost methodically average dreams. Saoirse makes potions to guarantee it, because otherwise what goes on in Roman's head in endless screaming and he wakes up the whole house, and it seemed rude to not let everyone else have benignly pleasant dreams.

Adrian dreams of the sea. Sometimes this is good. Sometimes it's bad. Edge dreams of fire and of his family; these things are related more often than he would like them to be. And occasionally, rather than dreaming, he just talks to Eigengrau. Or talks at Eigengrau. Eigengrau doesn't speak if Eigengrau has nothing to say.
