The early sunshine has given way to cloud cover, leading to the iso setting being cranked up to 800 from the earlier 200, with further deterioration to come by the time the third steam railtour arrived with 46233 Duchess of Sutherland.

Smurf Express by Kevin Delaney Via Flickr: 43059 & 43055 working 1Z30 from Cardiff Central to Carlisle seen crossing the magnificent Whalley Viaduct. Whalley Viaduct is the longest viaduct in Lancashire and was constructed between 1846 and 1850 by the Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe & West Yorkshire Railway and has many more arches than its counterpart at Ribblehead and contains over seven million bricks.

British Rail Western Region/Great Western steam locomotives Nos 5043 Earle of Mount Edgecombe and 7029 Clun Castle double head the returning Mayflower steam service through the dusk shadows, passing Norton Fitzwarren shortly after sunset. This was about as much rail-related photography as I got attempting to beat the train to Dainton, only to have a delayed CrossCountry train, a missed bus, and a trip on the wrong bus thwart my attempt earlier in the day. Going for the evening shot, my camera conveniently decided to refuse to focus in manual mode just as the train was already in view, so a had to make a rapid switch to auto mode and hope for the best. Considering the way the shot looked in camera, I can't say I'm that upset with the final result post processing.

BR Steam Loco No. 73022 SCTS railtour @ Wallington - Mar 1965 by Frederick McLean Via Flickr: A photograph of British Railways 4-6-0 locomotive No. 73022 at Wallington railway station on 28 Mar 1965. It is pulling a 7 coach 'Southern Counties Touring Society' "Southern Wanderer Railtour". The photograph reverse is stamped with the photographer (and/or negative owner) name F. C. Hammersley. Locomotive No. 73022 was a 4-6-0 engine, built by Crewe Works and new to British Railways in Oct 1951. It was withdrawn from service in Apr 1967 and in the September was scrapped at 'Cashmore's Great Bridge' scrapyard.
