  they were loud. way too loud than they should be. wings made of metal plates, rubbing against each other, the sound infuriating, but something tony stark had long since learned to deal with. it’s been a while since he’d been practically forced to stay on earth, living among humans, yet unseen. hiding and keeping to himself. tinkering and creating--- that’s what he was good at, after all. 

  the metal wings that substituted the ones humans had stripped him of, he had made himself and despite the fact that they weren’t quite as graceful, they served their purpose. if a bit clunky at times. whatever, tony would deal with it. 

  the cottage he’d made a home in for himself was hidden away, deep in a forest, out of sight, the tech he’d been tinkering with keeping alert on any unsuspecting visitors. like hell if he’ll let the mistake that had cost him his wings repeat itself. never again. and it’s worked so far. 

  any wanderers were turned away and tony was content with living like this. content he couldn’t return home--- to his actual home--- not without his wings. the poor copy he’d made for himself wasn’t nearly good enough reason for it. besides--- everyone probably thought him dead, anyway. and that might even be for the best.

   he’s been doing just fine, really. dropping scrap and other material he could tinker with onto his desk, getting to work. it kept him busy, he had something to do, for a change. and it’s been working for him. that was--- until his tech had picked up an intruder. one that didn’t turn away even with the warnings thrown at him. on top of it all, the signal had been odd--- not quite human, almost like--- it couldn’t be.

Eleanor’s lips turned up in a soft smile as she was given permission by the other to continue, which she did, admiring his soft locks once the dirt was brushed  from it.

She sat in silence for a couple moments before the quietest of hums carried from her lips. No tune in particular; something gentle as her fingers continued to thread slowly and deliberately through his hair.

“I managed to bring along some of food for the flight back, once you feel up to it.” she spoke, her voice kept at a low volume. Once finished she continued her humming for a little while longer.

It hadn’t been too long ago since Banner had rushed through a portal to hug Tony. Now it was the other way around. It was Tony stepping his feet on Earth once again and hugging the hell out of the man once he saw him. Even as a futurist he hadn’t expected to be in Wakanda, hugging his friend. He had expected them all to be dead. He had expected not to make it back. Because there was no salvation from all of this. Was there? And yet, here they were. Both alive still. It gave him hopes once again. It tugged at his brain cells to act once more.

“You’re here. You’re actually here.” he voiced out, huskily as he squeezed the man’s shoulder. A reassurance to himself.

Cut fingers lightly caressed Bruce’s sides as he sat in Tony’s lap, looking at the others face full of worry. “Bruce.” He says softly, trying to grab the others full attention. Yeah, it hurt to have Bruce on his lap, but he craved the feeling of his love near him. Tony shifted, the pain in his ribs strong, the reactor feeling especially HEAVY in his chest from his injuries. 

“I’ve told you, I’ll rest when I’m dead. The world needs me right now.” He breathed out, resting his head against his lovers chest. “Just... Gimme a few days. I’ll be good as new.”
