Happy Mother’s Day...to a raccoon??

Yup, that’s exactly that!  My mom is a raccoon!  Well, kind of.  Her name is Gabi Payn, an’ she created me back in 1986!  See?  Here’s some of her first drawings of me!

She also designed Janine, an’ made Janine based on her!  So...Janine’s kind of my mom too.  But that gets a little weird so I’ll just keep thinking of her as my big sister.  But she draws other stuff too, an’ her character (or ‘fursona’ as she calls it) is a raccoon named Racqui...cos she’s a furry!

Bow To Your Queen: Jacqui Tribute

We couldn't let this week pass without paying tribute to our favourite ever female to rock Chester to its core; Jacqui McQueen. From the thigh-high boots and the hoops, to her tragic vulnerability under that hard exterior, we've bloody loved every minute of her. So here, in summary are our Jacqui highlights.

Family

R Jacq - as she's often known - was always a family girl at heart, having helped raise her siblings herself and trying to guide them in better directions. We've loved Jacqui for her sound, no nonsense advice - sometimes the truth has just gotta hurt! And although ultimately she paid the ultimate price for selfish sister Mercedes, we loved all the unique bonds she had with her family and would have loved a big sis like Jacqui.

As for her own family, Jacqui's unusual path of taking in strays (first Terr-eh the dog - where is he?! - and then Phoebe) finally let her put her maternal instincts to use. We know Phoebe was lucky to have her.

Tragedy and Heartbreak

As much as we love jailbird, kick-him-in-the-bollocks Jacqui, our favourite Jacqui moments have probably been the times that Claire Cooper absolutely slayed us with her performances when Jacqui suffered through her hardest times. From losing a baby and all hope for future children, to her rape ordeal and the death of Rhys, there's barely been a dry eye. With her brave, tough front, it was rare to see Jacqui so vulnerable, but when we did, it was incredibly moving. We'd probably say the rape storyline sticks out as one of Hollyoaks's most powerful ever. And Jacqui's response to Rhys's death hit us hard, sobbing into our dinner.

Racqui

Okay, okay; so Rhys regressed into a cheating scumbag and Tony and Jacqui seemed to grow close again, but our heart firmly remains in the Rhys and Jacqui camp. From their frosty working relationship in Chez Chez and online dating, they blossomed into one of our favourite couples of all time. Rhys and Jacqui were perfect for each other, funny, full of banter and spark and being there for each other through the hard times too. We'll never forget their touching and unusual wedding and how Rhys helped Jacqui rebuild her life. Their final scenes have to be some of the most emotional in Oaks history. We miss them!

One thing it's impossible not to forget about Jacqui is her sense of style. Do we mean 'style' as a good thing? Not sure. But there aren't many characters who could get away with eye-bleeding combinations of animal print and more bling than a pawn shop. And even though we moved beyond the early noughties long ago, Jacqui clung firmly to her excruciatingly tight ponytail and the signature two loose strands. We thought she rocked that chavalicious get up in her last episode.

As for her attitude and behaviour, there's not many who'd mess with Jacqui and we loved her in full on rage mode too. We hope she's kicking up a storm in Alicante as we speak, luv.

There's only one Jacqui and she was our Queen.
