Rachel Laforest: Rapping With A Split Personality
youtube
Yeah, with the title of the song, you know you're in for it on this one.
I can't really tell why I don't mind keeping this on my playlist when it's so aggressively unfunny. Sure, I'm on the fringe website where not immediately condemning for my light of DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) but it's such a lazy parody that it doesn't really spark my ire. No, I think all the hate from people who actually managed to find this video comes from the fact that it has so much wasted potential. Why couldn't she just stick to a few personas and carried the song with that? I liked the old man, the actress and Bloody Mary...those would have been fun. But then she just throws pop culture references at everything and the song suffers for it. I don't know. My mom, who is black for some reason, has Jim Crow drawings on the wall in the living room. I feel like something similar is happening here with this song being acknowledged in this blog.
Song Score: 7/10

Hello Everyone!
This week I wanted to write about something on the easier side because I have a lot of things planned for the blog that I want to get done. Iâm really excited about the changes to come! But for now, I wanted to mention a few podcasts that have helped me a lot recently.
Weâre allowed to have headphones at my day job, so I tend to either listen to music or an audiobook. Lately, however, Iâve been binge-listening to podcasts. My friends know that for the longest time I have had a hard time finding a podcast I enjoyed or where I could stand to listen to a personâs voice for more than one episode (listening to the same voice for eight hours can get exhausting).
Iâve been listening mostly to things that help me get my life together but also say that itâs okay to not have my life together. Also on the list is a podcast for writers and a humorous podcast, both of which have helped me too. These are in no particular order, I enjoy all of them equally and think everyone can get at least something from them all. On that note, letâs just get into it!
Unf#ck Your Brain
Unf#ck Your Brain is a feminist podcast hosted by Kara Loewentheil. Her earlier podcast episodes were aimed towards lawyers, but she later changes her message to feminism and learning to control your brain to become better in your everyday life. Kara is a Master Life Coach and has degrees from both Yale and Harvard.
This podcast has helped me in multiple areas in my life because she discusses how to control thought process. Multiple times throughout the podcast she says that you cannot stop a thought from developing but you can stop from acting on it. Some of my favorite episodes include Complaining, Parenting, Self Care, and Social Anxiety. By listening to this podcast Iâve been able to manage my time better, improve my negative thoughts, and have a better understanding that every personâs brain interrupts things differently, that there is no right or wrong way in how your brain interrupts things, and that it is possible to improve your thoughts in order to improve your productivity and your life in general.
Directionally Challenged
This podcast is hosted by Candice King and Kayla Ewell. Iâve been in love with these two since their time on The Vampire Diaries. For those of you who donât know them by their actual names, they play Caroline Forbes and Vicky Donovan on the show. The podcast is aimed at 30-something year oldâs but they have so much advice that applies to women of all ages. The message of the show is to say they thought they would have their lives figured out by 30 but now that theyâre in their 30âs they know they donât.
I enjoy this podcast because I was led to believe the misconception that I would have my life together in my 20âs. And I definitely donât. Knowing that some people donât have their life figured out even in their 30âs really helps me when I tell myself that itâs okay to not have everything figured out. I also love the guests they have on the show as well, including some other TVD cast members. Some of my favorite episodes include âAnxiety and Productivityâ with Bri Emery, âA Sucky Love Storyâ with Brittani Louise Taylor, â!0 Year Challengeâ with Michael Trevino, âWhat Would Dobrev Do?â with Nina Dobrev, âAfterâ with Anna Todd, and âBasic Witchesâ with Leah Knauer and Rachel Laforest.
Kalynâs Coffee Talk
This podcast is hosted by Kalyn Nicholson. Many people may know her from her YouTube channel. Kalynâs Coffee Talk focuses on living your best life, mental health, and wellness. I honestly started listening to this podcast simply because of the word coffee in the title. I was randomly looking up podcasts involving coffee.
What I found was a podcast that helps motivate me every Monday morning. I also started binge watching her YouTube videos on the weekends when I didnât work and was completely inspired by Kalyn to get my stuff done. It might have also been the other podcasts I listen to as well but I love the sense of motivation she gives off in her podcast. I listen to each new episode on my way to work on Monday mornings. It gives me a good sense of starting off the week and since I leave for work at four in the morning thatâs something that I look forward to to start my week off right. Some of my favorite episodes include âWitches Brewâ, âLet Go Of What No Longer Serves Youâ, âDetoxing My Social Mediaâ, âWhy Morning Routines Workâ, and âHow To Enjoy Alone Timeâ.
I Should Be Writing
This is the podcast I mentioned that was for writers. The show is hosted by award-winning author Mur Lafferty. This podcast typically has interviews with other authors but focuses on discussing the issues that arise during the writing process or writing career if you write as a profession.
This podcast has helped me overcome many issues Iâve stumbled upon during my writing and Iâm not even done listening to all the episodes yet. This podcast has been going since 2005 and has over 400 posts. Even if I do binge listen to it at work thatâs still a lot of episodes to get through. Because it has helped me get through curveballs itâs definitely a high recommend from me for other writers. Since there are so many episodes and I havenât finished listening to them all, Iâm not listing my favorite episodes. My personal suggestion is if you want to listen to this podcast, start from the beginning or look at the titles to see what authors are guests on her show.
This Might Get Weird
Okay, here it is, the humorous podcast hosted by Mamrie Hart and Grace Helbig. This podcast is one hell of a ride. I have to admit I was skeptical about starting this one and I didnât think I was going to like it. But I had already downloaded all the episodes and I was already in the parking lot at my work. So I decided if I didnât like it by the time my first break came around then I would just switch to music. Iâm glad I gave it a chance because I absolutely love it!
This podcast simply follows the interesting things that happen to both Mamrie and Grace in their lives. They write down things on their phones and share them over the podcast together. I can't get enough of them. My coworkers were staring at me like I was insane for over a week because I would be listening to this podcast and would randomly start laughing so hard because of things they said. Thatâs not an exaggeration, I had to stop what I was doing one time because I was laughing so hard that I kept dropping my components. If you enjoy a good laugh I highly recommend this podcast. Some of my favorite episodes include âGrace Takes the Wrong Pillâ, âMamrieâs Secret College Hookupâ, âMamrie Channels Her Inner Banksyâ, âGrace Hits Herself With Bear Sprayâ, âMamrie Shows Grace How to Catfish a Cowâ, and âGraceâs Stands Off With An Alpacaâ. These episode titles alone should make you laugh without having heard anything else.
There are many other podcasts I listen to as well but these five specific podcasts have helped me in the last few months. Unf#ck Your Brain, Directionally Challenged, and Kalynâs Coffee Talk have all helped me to get my life together with inspiration, motivation, and personal challenges. I Should Be Writing has helped me improve my writing by talking with other authors and the challenges that occur while writing and how they overcome them. This Might Get Weird has helped me laugh. Iâm sure that sounds weird but there are times when I need a break from focusing on work, finances, and even a break from my kids (who I adore) but having a good laugh at some unbelievable events has helped to relieve stress and give my mind a break from all the chaos going on around me.
Two other notable mentions I would like to include are the podcasts Basic Witches hosted by Leah Knauer and Rachel Laforest, and Mile Higher Podcast hosted by Josh Thomas and Kendall Rae. These podcasts are more on the preference side so if you donât like tarot readings or anything related to witchcraft, Basic Witches would not be for you. And if you donât like true crime or conspiracy theories, I wouldnât recommend Mile Higher Podcast. However, if you like to expand your tastes, both podcasts are enjoyable and I learn a lot from them both.
If you liked this week's post please hit the like button, follow the blog, drop a comment, and share this with your friends. I have some new things coming to the blog next week and if you want a sneak peek follow me on my social media all of which are linked on the bottom of this post and to the right side of the page! Enjoy your Friday and have a great weekend!

[Trailer] Brooklyn Hipsters Party Hard and Die in PSYCHOTIC!
New Post has been published on https://nofspodcast.com/trailer-brooklyn-hipsters-party-hard-and-die-in-psychotic/
[Trailer] Brooklyn Hipsters Party Hard and Die in PSYCHOTIC!
As if it wasnât hard enough trying to survive as an artist in Brooklyn, now thereâs some maniac going around and ruining all the fun in PSYCHOTIC!. A group of local hipsters not only have try to make next monthâs rent, but they also have to worry about being picked off one-by-one by the maniacal Bushwick Party Killer. It seems the only way to cope with all the stress is to regularly get drunk and get stoned, as demonstrated in the latest trailer (above).
PYSCHOTIC! uses familiar tropes of an 80s slasher with the psychedelic color palette of the 70s Giallo genre. And a film of this nature wouldnât be complete without a synthy original score composed by Blazing Galaxies.
Official Synopsis:
The rent is high but the body count is higher in PSYCHOTIC!, the suspenseful psychedelic slasher that follows a group of hard-partying Brooklyn hipsters as theyâre stalked and savagely murdered by a masked maniac known as the Bushwick Party Killer.
Itâs up to struggling artists Tim and Stuart to figure out who keeps killing the life of the party. Blood-soaked mayhem ensues as our heroes barely make the rent on time, search for love (in all the wrong places), and try to salvage their friendship â all while trying to unravel the mystery and stay one step ahead of the next massacre.
PSYCHOTIC! has already won awards at the Cannabis Film Festival, the Upstate NY Horror Film Festival and the Lost Sanity & Sci-Fi Film Festival, and has been part of the official selection for the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, Scare-A-Con and PDXtreme Fest.
The indie flick is the first full-length effort by filmmaker duo Derek Gibbons and Maxwell Frey, under their name Destruction Inc. They were able to finance thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015. PSYCHOTIC! stars Kristen Martin, Clint Keepin, Cirocco Dunlap, Maria Wojciechowski, Dani Grace, Adam Maid, Rafael Cruz, Chris Prine, Aldous Davidson and Rachel Laforest. Gibbons, Frey and Keepin also produced alongside Elizabeth Koe, and Brian Stansfield did cinematography. The film features an original score by Brooklyn-based synth duo Blazing Galaxies.
The film will be available on iTunes and VOD on January 26th, along with select screenings around New York. Check out the website for more info.

Quote
Despite being a consumer society, the US does not assume that retail workers are valuable and deserving of high wages, Rachel Laforest notes. Yet at the dawn of the industrial revolution and for decades afterward, factory workers were also presumed to be unskilled and undeserving, easily replaced. âThere's this narrative of bringing manufacturing jobs back â in Pittsburgh the great hollowing-out happened in the â80s,â Granger says. âThere's this sense that a factory job is a good job and retail jobs are not. An industrial factory job used to be literally the worst, most dangerous job you could have. Organizing and unionizing those places is what turned them into family-wage jobs.â
