So the people over at taagra.com just released a font which is available for download and use on your computer, and of course I had to drop everything and figure out how it worked. This is the result.

The text is a Ta’agra translation of Words of Clan Mother Ahnissi which I made over a year ago, and posted in my very first tumblr post ever. The translation has been converted it into a more verse-like format, and in many places reworded for ease of translation.

The children of Fadomai pulled out the Heart of Lorkhaj And hid it deep within Nirni And they said we curse you noisy Lorkhaj To walk Nirni for many phases

But Nirni afterward felt forgiveness for for Lorkhaj For Nirni could make children And she was soon filled with children But cried because her favorite children The forest people did not know their shape

And Azurah came to her and said Poor Nirni stop your tears Azurah will make for you a gift of a new people Nirni stopped weeping And Azurah spoke the First Secret to the Moons And they did part and give Azurah passage

And Azurah named them Khajiit And told them her Second Secret And taught them the value of secrets And Azurah bound the new Khajiit to the Lunar Lattice As is right for Nirni’s secret defenders Then Azurah spoke the Third Secret And the Moons shone down on the wet lands And their light became sugar

Flowers In The Field *Chapter 1*

Rabeka's P.O.V I twirled the colourless lilac in between my fingers. For years it mocked me, delivering the message "You'll never find them. So give up!" Ouite harrowing to a child. It made my anxiety disorder develop way too far, making me retreat inside, scared to feel. I did feel, once, but it was a grave mistake. She simply told me my worth. She told me how I was worth nothing. A whole world of problems opened, new scars bleed. Some scars were still bleeding. "Rabeka! Mija! Hurry or you'll miss your flight!" Mami called from down stairs. I jumped slightly then stuck the lilac in its case. I walked downstairs to see Avery and my parents smiling as if they weren't talking about my eating habits and not allowing me near scissors. I didn't let it bother me though. I was a bit messed up, so what. When we finally arrived at the airport, I could feel anxiety squeezing in on me. I hated being in large groups of people. Two or three are fine, but large crowds made me feel as if danger was lurking around every corner. Avery grabbed my hand and we hurried as our plane was already boarding, we really were horrible with time. After the plane had took off and was flying smoothly, I began sketching something for me to work on seeing as we would be on the plane for about six hours. I kind of got lost in the sketch as Avery wrote beside me. I blocked out her typing but focusing on the scratch of the pencil on the paper. A euphoric sound in my artist opinion. I loved the feeling of the paper against my skin, the sound of the art sketch coming together, and almost everything to do with art. I practicialy breathed it. I soon began finalizing the sketch before I took out my pen to do the inking. This was a meticously job, one wrong stroke could ruin or make an art piece. It was all on me and if I could keep a steady hand. Thankfully I slammed the inking out in an hour, record time seeing as I couldn't do anything else. I looked at the page. It was a girl who had her nose in a book and in front of her were all the good things anyone could wish for in life, but behind her was the reality. Death and sadness. A truly disappointing reality. Maybe that is why the arts exist. To offer people passage to a place where life didn't make you feel as if the world would just be better if you disappeared. I actually finished it withink three hours of the flight, leaving me the last three hours to sleep. Sleep. A haunting term if you ask me. Sleep brought dreams. Dreams brought thoughts. Thoughts brought cuts and less food then a human should consume. With that brought doctors and medicine. Therapy visits and pyshc wards. That was the spiral. It always was. But nonetheless I did fall asleep. A dreamless sleep thankfully. There was still a small question on my mind. What people are at the University Of Miami?

"Hey Ya!" is a song in G major. Each cadential six-measure phrase is constructed using a change of meter on the fourth measure and uses a I–IV–V–VI chord progression. G major and C major chords are played for one and two 4/4 measures respectively. André 3000 then uses a deceptive cadence after a 2/4 measure of the dominant D major chord, leading into two 4/4 measures of an E major chord. The song moves at a tempo of 160 beats per minute, and André's vocal range spans more than an octave and a half, from B3 to G5.[6]

The song opens with three pick up beats as André 3000 counts "one, two, three, oh" and then leads into the first verse. The lyrics begin to describe the protagonist's concerns and doubts about a romantic relationship.[3] He wonders if they are staying together just "for tradition", as in the lines "But does she really wanna [mess around] / But can't stand to see me / Walk out the door?" André 3000 commented, "I think it's more important to be happy than to meet up to...the world's expectations of what a relationship should be. So this is a celebration of how men and women relate to each other in the 2000s".[7] The song then leads into the chorus, which consists of the line "Hey ya!" repeated eight times, accompanied by a synthesizer performing the bassline.[6]

During the second verse, the protagonist gets cold feet and wonders what the purpose of continuing the relationship is, pondering the question, "If they say nothing is forever...then what makes love the exception?"[3] After repeating the chorus, the song leads into a call and response section. André 3000 jokes, "What's cooler than being cool?", and the "fellas'" response, an overdubbed version of his vocals, is "Ice cold", a reference to one of André Benjamin's stage names.[8] He then calls to the "ladies", whose response is overdubbed from vocals by Rabeka Tuinei,[5] who was an assistant to the audio engineer.[3]

The song's breakdown coined the phrase "shake it like a Polaroid picture", a reference to an erroneous technique used by some photographers to expedite instant film. Early versions of the film needed to be dried, and shaking the picture helped it to dry faster.[9] The breakdown also namechecks singer Beyoncé and actress Lucy Liu. The song closes by repeating the chorus and gradually fading out.[6]

Ta’agra Translation of “The Words of Clan Mother Ahnissi”

So I got a tumblr. Had to. All the cool queer TES people are here apparently (and also my roommate who is so friggin tired of me talking about Elder Scrolls already.) I figure at the very least I can cross post my fanfiction from Ao3 here, and actually chat with people instead of sending them anon asks.

So here’s a Ta’agra translation of the ingame Elder Scrolls book The Words of Clan Mother Ahnissi I made to include in a piece of fanfiction I’ve been writing.

Original text is here (and is owned by Bethesda, I take no credit!)

I converted it into a more verse-like format, and in many places reworded it for ease of translation. I tried to maintain as much of the original text as I could (minus the first paragraph,) but the Ta’agra language does not yet contain enough words, so I had to use their closest approximations.

To account for this discrepancy, it’s supposed to be an off the cuff translation made by one Khajiit from a memorized version in Ta’agra.

If anybody actually cares about this, I’d like it to be a resource for the fan community. So! If you want to use this in any fan work that is not intended for profit, please feel free to do so. Credit is appreciated.

I make no claims that my Ta’agra is perfect (in fact there are probably plenty of mistakes I missed.) If you can provide any corrections, I would welcome them.
