Nawazuddin Siddiqui Completes The Shooting Of ‘Raat Akeli Hai’

Few days ago, Gangs of Wasseypur actor has declared about the shoot wrap of his upcoming movie ‘Raat Akeli Hai’. On the occasion, the actor has shared a picture where clapper board of the movie can be noticed. Caption with the picture reads, “It’s a wrap for Raat Akeli Hai, a beautiful experience working with the talented Honey Trehan on his Directorial debut. Amazing Team & Outstanding process. Thank You Ronnie Screwvala & RSVP Movies Macguffin pictures, Radhika.”

So, Honey Trehan will be making his debut as a director in Bollywood with ‘Raat Akeli Hain’. It is a crime thriller that will be using rural India as its backdrop. In addition to Nawazuddin Siddiqui, beautiful Radhika Apte and Shweta Tripathi is part of the movie also. It will be the second time when Nawazuddin and Shweta Tripath are working with each other. Last time, they have been seen together in Haraamkhor which has been critically acclaimed.

Last release of Nawazuddin Sddiqui has been ‘Photograph’ where he has been seen with Dangal actress Sanya Malhotra. The movie will be showcased in New York Film Festival that has been starting from 7th May and will go on till 12th May.

In the coming days, Nawazuddin is expected to be seen in several movies. Raman Raghav 2.0 actor has already shot for a comedy movie named Motichoor Chaknachur with Athiya Shetty. Few days ago, Nawazuddin has signed a movie called Bole Churiyaan with Mouni Roy also. Apart from these movies, the actor will be seen in the Sacred Games Season 2.

Raat Akeli Hai – A Weak Thriller With Usual Nawaz Uddin

Many actors have gone type-casted either because of their personality or because of the inability of the director to pull the best from the actors – this is somewhat getting true for Nawaz Uddin Siddiqui. Besides the fact that I am a fan of his acting whether he performed a cameo or meatier role in a film but there are films where he acts the same way and director fails to bring the newness in his performance. Raat Akeli Hai is the latest venture where Siddiqui unites with Radhi Apte, Tigmanshu Dhulia and other actors. The expectations were really high before the release of the film on Netflix. Many compared the film with Knives Out, let’s explore what the film has to offer.

First of all Raat Akeli Hai is not an adaptation or inspiration of Knives Out. The film has its unique story, characters are different and have their motives (although those motives are weakly handled). The script is strictly average. There are scenes that look misplaced in the film and at times the audience suffer from a dragged narrative where director and writer try hard to develop some highpoints but unfortunately fail terribly because of the length and trying too hard to stand out.

Performance wise Radhika Apte is impressive, she changes her expressions like a chameleon. Nawaz Uddin Siddiqui once again delivers similar performance and his fans will love that – no matter what. Ila Arun, with limited screen presence and fewer dialogues, is a treat to watch.

Tigmanshu Dhulia is also repetitive. Aditya Shrivastav is effective. Rest of the cast is fine. But the script is unrealistic at places and it looks like a 90s flick. The story and suspense unwind way too quickly leaving the fine detailing and characters’ motive a back seat. This Is one of the major hiccups in Raat Akeli Hai.

Watch it if you are a die hard fan of Siddiqui and Apte, else it’s a mystery film gone wrong because of weaker writing and execution.

EXCLUSIVE: “A 100 crore and 15 crore film will have same viewership,” – Nawazuddin Siddiqui on the advantages of OTT platforms

Filmmakers have now been moving to OTT platforms for the release of their films. Owing to the pandemic, the theatres have gone out of business temporarily. With the cinema halls not likely to open anytime soon because of the prevailing condition, makers have started releasing their projects on the OTT platforms. This has led to a discussion on the advantages of OTT and the future of the theatre business. Nawazuddin Siddiqui opens up on the advantages of films premiering on OTT platforms.  When asked if there is an advantage of releasing movies on OTT over theatres, Nawazuddin said, “There is freedom and there is an advantage especially with bigger OTT platforms like Netflix. There is an advantage because, when a film made on the budget of Rs 100-150 crore is released in the theatres, it takes over all the screens, even if the movie is shit. On the other hand, good, low budget films do not get screens and even if they get it will get a show at 11 in the morning or 11 in the night. Atleast now, if the film is worth Rs 100 crore or Rs 15 crore, when released on Netflix, the viewership will be the same. Now, it all depends on which film is good and what people want to watch.
