CHAPTER TWELVE

Somebody to you masterlist

A/N: surprise I actually posted this tbh but here we go!!

“What’s he doing here?” Case asked Alex seeing Ryan and Valerie arrive to the homecoming game together. After a long Friday pep rally, Case and Valerie ended up winning homecoming king and queen, something case’s girlfriend was mad about and decided to cancel her flight to visit him because of everything happening between him and Valerie.

“I don’t know, said he wanted to see her? Why’s it your concern anyway?” Alex turned to Case who was slightly stuttering to find words when he saw the smirk on Alex’s face grow big giving him a slight shove, “you like her—“

“Ssh! I don’t need everyone to know!” He hushed Alex, he laughed happily punching him lightly, “I always knew it! Oh that’s amazing.”

“What? I have a girlfriend.”

“Yeah? Where is she?”

“So why are you here and Ryan is over there?” Chelsea pointed down the fence, Ryan catching up with former teammates, she stood a couple people away down the fence not wanting to intrude on the catching up with the guys.

“Oh umm I don’t want to bother him.” She looked down catching Ryan looking over at her when she looked away and he made his way over to her breaking from the guys.

“Guess he noticed.” Chelsea made her way over to jack, she felt his arms wrap around her from behind, “sorry I’ve been talking with them and not with you.”

“That’s okay, they all miss you.” She shrugged, he stood beside her now wrapping his arm around her shoulders, “yeah, but I missed you more than them.”

“I’m sure you missed them just as much, ry.”

“I haven’t heard you call me that in a long time.” A smile spreading wide on his face and a small bit of regret in her stomach was filling up realizing she was getting herself into a mess all over and she knew how the story ended. It was like reading a book over again expecting a different ending.

“Something bothering you?”

“No, nothing at all actually.” She smiled softly resting her head against his chest not caring that she was going to let herself go through the same emotions as last time, it was worth it for now.

“Perfect?” He asked, she nodded getting on her tippy toes pressing a kiss to his cheek, “more than perfect.”

Alex grabbed a hold of jacks shoulder, “I still don’t like him.”

“Nobody’s asking you to like him, Jack.”

“Oh, Ryan! So glad to see you!” Ellen hugged him when Ryan entered the familiar household with Valerie, jack trailed behind unimpressed that Valerie brought him home.

“You too, how have you been?”

“I’ve been well, how’s hockey for you, sweetheart?” She asked, the two sitting at the island, Valerie rested her head against his shoulder, “going really well.”

“That’s great, sweetie, I’ll leave you two be.” She left the kitchen leaving the two alone, she hopped off the chair going into the fridge, “can I join you guys?” Jack asked standing in the hall leading towards the kitchen.

“Yeah this is your house too.” Valerie grabbed a water for Ryan and herself handing him one, she stood on the other side of the island while the two sat next to each other.

“Jack, I know you hate me. You don’t have to pretend to get along with me.”

“Well I’m glad you know I hate you.” Jack got up from his seat, Valerie gave him a look, it’s not like the two were going to get back together, they were friends anyway and Jack was the only one who didn’t make peace with Ryan, but nobody blamed him that he chose not too.

Ryan kept his mouth shut watching jack get up and leave the two alone, Ryan sat there playing with the water bottle cap, “I’m assuming you probably want me to leave too?”

“No, but you can if you want. I’m sure you probably don’t want to stick around.” She kept her eyes focused on the counter knowing he had walked away, but not knowing he had walked away to be beside her.

“Why do you say that?” He wrapped his arms around her until they both heard the front door open, pulling apart hearing the sound of somebody’s shoes coming around the corner seeing Trevor.

“Where’s jack?”

“He’s upstairs, why?”

“Coles having a party, you guys coming?”

“Maybe later.” they both replied at the same time, Trevor nodded heading upstairs going into jacks bedroom, “you coming?”

“Yeah, is Val?”

“Maybe, she and Ryan might come later.” Trevor stood in the door way of his bedroom when Alex came up beside Trevor, “he has to come?”

“It’s really not my say.”

Jack rolled his eyes grabbing his keys off his dresser and then grabbing his jacket flicking the lights off, “can you just be a grown up and respect him?” Trevor asked the three going out to Trevor’s car.

“You respect him? After what he did to Valerie? Pretty messed up you would say that.” Jack got into the backseat while the others got into the front.

“Jack, we don’t all know the situation, we only know Ryan’s side, right, Alex?”

“Mhmm yeah,” Alex lied knowing behind him jack was throwing a small unnoticeable fit. Of course, the two that knew kept their mouths shut because Valerie didn’t want the news to spread, and any chance of it spreading she wanted to limit.

“I’m sorry I can’t lie, what Ryan did was wrong and what you all know is a lie.”

“Hi,” Valerie found her way over to jack once entering the party in the basement, she had parted ways with Ryan to find jack, “I’ll leave you guys,” Chelsea got up and Valerie took her place on the couch.

“So how’s it with Ryan?”

“I’m not getting back together with him.” She turned to face him, Alex joined the conversation wrapping his arms around Valerie’s neck lightly, “why’s that?”

“Because he has a girlfriend, she called him on the way here.”

“Once a cheater always a cheater.” Alex mumbled into her ear, she nodded turning to rest her back against the couch, “wow, well how do you feel?”

“Normal I guess, I don’t know I always knew he wasn’t the one.”

“Who is the one? Will you please tell me? At least me! Not jack.” Alex begged, his puppy dog eyes were convincing, but she only shook her head scratching his head, “you’re so cute, turcs, you think that’s going to get me to tell you.” She got up going over to find Alyssa and Spencer.

“Like she would tell you before me—“

“I know things you don’t, Jack, just because you’re her brother doesn’t mean you know everything.”

CHAPTER ELEVEN

“I didn’t think you would come.” Ryan whispered, the two sitting at a booth in the loca restaurant far in the back far away from Plymouth’s high school hockey team not wanting any of the boys to find out and tell jack.

“I umm I didn’t want too actually. Alex covered for me though.” She replied biting her lip, the waiter bringing back what the two had ordered leaving them both the bill for whenever they were ready to leave.

“He’s not mad at me?”

“No, but jack is.” She played with the straw of her milkshake swirling it around in shake not looking up to look at Ryan knowing if she did she’d feel everything she didn’t want too.

“Kind of figured, he hates me.”

“Can you blame him?” She snapped picking her head up from looking at her shake, a look on his face knowing she didn’t mean that, “I’m sorry.”

“Valerie, what I said wasn’t okay, and I grew from that. I’m admitting what I said was a mistake and should never have been said. You seem to be unable to forgive me?” He reached across the table taking her hand in his, she didn’t pull away.

“I have forgive you, I truly have.” She shook her head dismissing the topic now, “what have you been up too? How’s hockey?”

“Not much really just been trying to focus on Harvard actually, I’m committing next week. Hockey has been going well I do miss it here a lot, what about you? What’s been going on?”

“Not much, I’m on homecoming court I think it’s a joke, but I got paired with case and Trevor is taking me to homecoming. Nothing crazy though.”

He nodded offering her some of his food when she declined shaking her head, looking out the window seeing the rain trickling down the window, “so you’ve been busy then? Surprised you even wanted to run?”

“I didn’t, Jack and Alex kind of convinced me to do it. They also got me a date, so I guess that was also a surprise.”

“You know, Trevor always liked you.” Ryan bit into his French fry looking up to see the surprised facial expression on her face, “Really?”

He chuckled, “well don’t act so surprised about it! All the guys liked you, but then they saw who you really were and knew you were kind of just like one of the guys.”

She dropped her hands into her lap leaning back against the cushion, “what’s that supposed to mean?” She didn’t even have a clue the guys had liked her from the start, they all had horrible ways of showing it if what he was saying was even true.

He shrugged, “you just gave them vibes that you wanted nothing more than to be friends, plus jack kind of made everyone practically take an oath not to date you. I fucked that up clearly.” The two laughing now.

“So you didn’t think I wanted to be just friends with you?”

“No, I saw the way you looked at me. I wasn’t stupid to not ask you out.” He laughed leaning back against the cushion now waiting for her to finish the last of her milkshake that she wanted before the two went up and he paid for her bill as well with his.

“You didn’t have to do that.” She said following him outside into the rain when he took off his sweatshirt giving it to her, “also didn’t have to do that.”

“Val, I still like you, okay? Can I see you tomorrow?” He asked walking her to her car watching her get in standing next to the drivers window.

“Football game is tomorrow, you can come if you want? Jack might be mad if you do.”

“Any other guys going to be there?”

“Trevor, Alex, Patrick, Case, and a few others maybe? You don’t have to go.” She said, her fingers intertwining with his without knowing, “I want to see you, so I will. Bye.” He pressed a quick kiss to her lips before heading to his car not giving her chance to say anything back just leaving her to think about the kiss.

“How was it? What did he say? Oh my god did you kiss? Did he pay for your food—“

“Alex, calm down.” She climbed into his bed getting under the sheets, “I’m sorry it’s been so long since something interesting has happened in your love life.”

She rolled her eyes, “it just felt nice to see him, like the last time, but I didn’t cry. We just talked about what’s been going on and the past.”

“I wish you guys didn’t break up, you guys would have been really cute.” Alex sighed hearing the bedroom door open and Quinn came in, “hi quinny,” Valerie smiled and he closed the door behind him.

“I haven’t seen you at all today. Can we talk in my room when you’re done debriefing?”

“Yeah, we can I’m almost done.” She smiled and he nodded leaving the room now going into his bedroom.

“So that’s it? Like you’re not seeing him after?”

“He’s coming to the game tomorrow. I shouldn’t have done that should I?” She nervously bit her lip getting up out of bed, Alex shook his head getting up out of bed too, “Valerie, you missed him it’s going to be awhile until you finally let go, and maybe date case—“

“I don’t like him. Come on, you know that?”

“I know, okay goodnight.”

“Night,” she left his room going into Quinn’s seeing him scrolling through his Netflix before he heard his door close looking over to see her.

“So what happened today? You were crying earlier, mom said something about Ryan?” He asked, she climbed into his bed sitting at the end leaning up against the wall.

“Yeah I saw him today, he asked about getting back together and I said no.”

“Good I didn’t like him whatever Turcotte says to you is bullshit, Ryan was dumb and honestly not that cute—if I were to think like that. You should date case though—“

“Why does everyone keep saying that to me? I don’t get it?” She asked, the past couple of days of courSe Jack, Alex, and her friends had been trying to figure out who she had a crush on and it all, by default, landed back to Case.

“You don’t get it?” Quinn sat up tossing his remote onto the chair beside his bed, “no I truly don’t.”

“Valerie, the kid likes you. Jack and Alex convinced everyone in the entire school to vote for you and him to make it onto court to hopefully actually make you both realize you like each other.”

She shook her head disagreeing, whether it be true or not she didn’t want to believe that there was something there not wanting to give herself a tiny bit of hope, “no you have it all wrong, he has a girlfriend, okay? He doesn’t like me—“

“Valerie, I’m not lying to you—“

“Well you just are, okay?” She got up out of his bed leaving his bedroom seeing Luke coming out of jacks room, “something wrong?”

“No, there’s nothing wrong. Why do you ask?”

“You just look like you want to talk and you have that confusion in your eyes, you and jack both share it. No wonder you’re twins. Easy to read.” Luke joked walking down the stairs, she could hear him chuckling at his own stupid joke before she walked into jacks room.

“Last stop of your room tour?” He asked turning off his television, the door closing behind her and she slid under the sheets of his bed pulling the comforter over her body.

“You tired? Big day tomorrow, huh? You nervous?” He asked seeing her eyes close for a second she drifted off before waking herself up, “hmm? What?”

“Where did you go again? Alex said something about you and a friend?”

“Just to the diner down the road.” She mumbled adjusting his pillows turning onto her side, her eyes becoming heavier until jack spoke, “funny because umm one of the hockey boys said they saw you with Ryan, when I thought you were over him?”

“I’m not over him.” She opened her eyes sitting up in his bed, “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get over him because he was the one guy in my life who actually treated me like a human being, not as friend or not someone trying to be famous because of my fucking brothers, okay? Because to everybody I’m just somebody! I’m never somebody to someone! I’m just Jack Hughes fucking sister and I’ll never just be Valerie Hughes!” She sobbed, not even realizing the tears were falling until she felt a tissue against her cheeks.

“Okay, okay, I didn’t know about all of this. Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because you’re not easy to talk to, Jack. It’s easier to talk to Alex, somebody who actually listens to me, not someone who dismisses to talk to a girl! I’m just going to go—“

“Val,” jack pulled her back into his bed moving closer to her, “please talk to me? I’m sorry that my life has caused you to be just ‘Jack Hughes sister’, and I’m so sorry about your whole love life crisis, but I didn’t mean to make this hard. Valerie, there are some great guys out there who will be lucky to have you! Truly I mean that, the guys you’re looking at now are dumb for thinking of you as just my sister. They are so dumb for that.” He pulled her into his chest giving her a hug pressing a kiss to her hair.

“Thank you, I’m sorry,” she wiped the tears from her cheeks getting up off his bed, “night, Valerie.”

“Night.”

CHAPTER NINE

A/N: aah look what it is!

Monday rolled around faster than Valerie expected. She already hated seeing everywhere people promoting themselves and their partner to vote for them. She and case opted not to put up posters or even post about it not wanting to be obnoxious and pleading for people’s votes.

“So do you think you’re going to win?” Chelsea, the girl her brother had been really into for the past month, asked watching a girl put her poster up, “probably not.” She shrugged seeing the boys all come in now.

“Why would say that? Come on, I’m voting for you, jacks voting for you, Alex is voting for you, Fran is voting for you, and so are your friends! Come on, you’ll win.” Chelsea tried to shed positivity about homecoming court, but she and case already knew they didn’t stand a chance with the four year long couple running and the football cheerleader relationships. She knew case was only picked because he’s attractive, and she was only picked for a joke.

“I doubt it, case and I have to campaign today for video announcements.” She groaned, Chelsea laughed, the boys finally making it up to where they were, “can’t be horrible?”

“Can’t be horrible? We have to find a reason why people should vote for us, the only thing we have as n NHL prospect and a dumbass.” She pointed at case and then at herself.

“You could use that both play hockey, ever think about that?” Jack asked wrapping an arm around Chelsea, “you play?” The question came at all different times overwhelming her.

“Used to. I quit last year.”

“Wow a Hughes quit hockey? That’s so weird to hear.” Alex chuckled pretending to play along, she rolled her eyes, Alex being the only one to really have known the full reason of why she quit, things were getting too hard and drama about her and Ryan filled the locker room everyday.

“Why’d you quit?” Case asked, she shook her head starting to walk away, “we have to go.” She said and case nodded following her saying his goodbyes.

“Why did she quit?”

“Nobody really knows.”

“Yeah, nobody knows.” Alex lied, watching Valerie and case walk down the hall until they took a turn and the two were no longer there.

“Alex, I can’t take it! For the past month I have gone into the locker room and they talk about me! They even have a signal to stop when I get there! It’s too much!” She sobbed, Alex holding her close to him assuring her things would get better.

“Val, you can’t quit. You love hockey.”

“Not when there’s gossip going around about if I slept with Ryan and others from my brothers team. I hate this! I’m turning in my jersey tomorrow.”

Alex sighed, pressing a kiss to her hair, “okay, will Ryan go with you?”

“Yeah he will.”

“I had no idea you guys were dating.”

“Oh we‘re not.” They both said at the same time laughing, the girl giving them both a look and case went to explain, “I have a girlfriend.”

She smirked laughing, “Is her name Valerie?” Which resulted in cases eyes to go wide shaking his head, “no! Umm no Valerie is a friend she’s just a friend we decided to run together.”

“You guys would make a cute couple, what a shame.”

“Yeah but we aren’t.” Valerie replies to make sure she got the message, she nodded, her and her boyfriends time to go, you looked at Case seeing him throw on the USA jersey, “what are you doing?”

“What? I know girls like it if they know ntdp’s go to their school. Here.” He tossed her one of his jerseys from his backpack and she threw it on.

“What are you going to say?”

“I don’t know, I’ll make something up we are the last to go.” He said ushering a couple in front of the two, she laughed taking the rose from one of the student council members playing with her hair.

“Well come up with something not cheesy.”

“I’ll figure it out just stand there and look pretty, which shouldn’t be hard to do.”

The whole day the two wore the jerseys, Valerie getting questioned by her own brother while he filled out the ballot only voting for Valerie and case, “I don’t like that. Can you change?”

“No, by court rules I have to wear this all day today, and it really smells. Perfume can’t fix it.” She held up one of the sleeves that was way too big and he smelt it making a face, “he could’ve at least washed it before giving it to you, see I wouldn’t have done that.”

“No, you would have.” She pointed for him to leave so the next person could vote seeing it was Alex, “hi, McCarthy.”

“Shut up and vote, turcs.”

“Damn, maybe I don’t want to vote for you anymore.”

“whatever I don’t care.” She said and Alex handed her the paper back motioning for her to step aside and she did so.

“What? What’s wrong?”

“I have some news it’s either good or bad, Jack didn’t want anyone to tell you, but I know how much he still means to you,” Alex rambled, Valerie felt her anxiety start to skyrocket, “Alex, what’s going on?”

“Ryan’s coming home. He’s staying with Cole for his long weekend here, he said he really wanted to see you, but he knows homecoming is this weekend.” He explained, her heart sinking to her stomach feeling her knees go weak, of course out of all weekends Ryan could come home he chose this one.

“I—wow.”

“I can tell Cole if you don’t want to see him—“

“No, umm I do. When is he coming?”

“He leaves Wednesday to get here on Thursday. You sure you want to see him?” Alex asked, she nodded a pushing a slightly fake smile on her face, “I do, just don’t tell jack.”

“I won’t, I’ll drive you after school on Thursday.”

“Ryan Siedem? Thought you two broke up?” She heard an unfamiliar voice from behind her turning around to see one of jacks “friends” that sat at his table with him. Valerie and her didn’t get along well considering she told Valerie off that just because her family was “famous” didn’t mean she got to be popular like Jack.

“Mind your own fucking business. This isn’t your cup of tea to sip out of.”

CHAPTER TEN

A/N: okay I think I told y’all this chapter is good but umm it’s not :/

The day slowly dragged by, she was constantly checking her phone and her watch impatiently waiting to get out of the white colored four brick walls surrounding her to go see Ryan. He had known she was coming, Cole knew it was not to be talked about in the locker room after having a discussion with Valerie separately and a conversation with Alex.

“Ready?” Alex asked once she got into his car, Alex lied to jack saying he needed to get something from Coles which would be awhile and Valerie was joining him because Abby had something she needed.

“Yeah,” she sighed getting in checking her messages seeing Mallory and Alyssa told her not to do something dumb when she saw him.

“You nervous?”

“I haven’t seen him in forever, I didn’t think he wanted to see me.”

“He was apparently dying to see you from what Cole said, must be he still has feelings.” Alex shrugged, after what happened anyone would assume the two hated each other, but after a long conversation weeks after the situation the two came to a conclusion that there was no hate between each other, just hate fueled between Jack and Ryan. Alex came to forgive him after finding Valerie did the same.

“I doubt it.” She whispered, watching as Alex pulled into the subdivision of Coles billet family, when they pulled into the driveway the garage door had opened and the two were walking outside.

“Don’t be stupid.” Alex hissed the two getting out of the car now. Seeing him was enough to make her heart race and butterflies erupt, she missed him and the feelings he brought to her.

“Val,” he sighed happily breaking the space between them giving her a hug, she smiled wrapping her arms around him, “I missed you.”

“I missed you more.” She whispered pulling away feeling his lips press against hers without even thinking, a spark erupting like it used to, the familiar feeling between them both and the kiss making her knees weak melting.

“I missed you so much, I didn’t realize how much I could miss you.” Ryan whispered laughing, she ran her fingers through his hair that was growing a bit longer than what she last remembered, “I missed you too, I didn’t know you wanted to see me.”

“I had been wanting to see you, actually, a lot recently.”

“Your hair is so long,” Ryan smiled running his fingers through her hair while she laid there in the guest bed next to him, “oh yeah you had wanted me to grow it long.” She nervously laughed, he nodded, “well I think my exact words were ‘how long can your hair get’ and I guess this is the answer to my dying question.”

“My dying question is, why are you here? And I don’t mean that in a bad way, I just want to know.” She whispered laying ontop of him now propping herself up on his chest a bit, “I want to get back together.” He sighed, she sat up off of him now, “oh,”

“And I know what I did was bad. I never meant for you to feel insecure, but your words that night really shaped me and made me realize that I don’t want to be that person. I know you girls always say guys never really change, but I think I’ve grown from that moment. Can you give me a chance?”

She sighed moving closer to him running her fingers down his bare chest, “Ryan, you live so far away it won’t work—“

“You can’t make things work if you don’t try.” He took her hand off his chest intertwining their fingers together, fitting perfectly.

She sighed getting up out of his bed throwing on her clothes, “I can’t do this again because getting over you was one of the hardest things I ever had to do and I don’t want to do it again.” She sighed, he got up out of his bed pulling her close.

“Valerie, I miss you. Can you please give me another chance?”

“No, I-I can’t and I’m sorry.” She felt herself getting choked up shaking her head wiping the tears from falling down her cheeks, “I love you, Ryan, I love you so much but I can’t do it. You hurt me so much that night that the thought of us together hurts.” She sobbed opening the guest bedroom door rushing down the stairs heading out the front door and Alex got up quickly following behind not even caring to finish the conversation.

“Val, Val! Valerie!” Alex called seeing her waiting for him at the car, “please I need to leave.” She cried, he nodded the two getting into the car and leaving Coles house immediately.

“I think I have some tissues in the glove box.” Alex whispered, she reached in grabbing them, “I feel so fucking stupid.” She cried, he looked over from the road at her for a split second seeing mascara all down her cheeks, tears still falling.

“Val, you’re not stupid.” He said taking a hold of her hand, “you’re in love.”

“Same thing,” she choked on the words. The drive only being a couple more minutes pulling into the driveway seeing Quinn was getting out of his car when he decided to wait for the two.

“You can talk to her,” Alex patted him on the chest walking past him, Quinn walked up to her seeing what he meant, “hey,” he whispered wrapping her in a hug, “whatever,” she scoffed pushing him off of her, the two walking inside together while Alex was telling them all to not say a word about Ryan or asking about him.

When she walked in she went straight upstairs brushing past Luke on his way down, when she got to her room she saw jack waiting for her, “if you’re here to yell at me, Jack, now is not the time.” She whispered throwing her backpack down when he got up closing the door behind him leaving them both together.

“I’m not here to yell at you.” He whispered, the two of them standing there awkwardly, “then what do you want?”

“I just wanted to know if you were okay. Cole texted me what happened or from his understanding of what happened.”

“I really don’t want to talk to you right now.” She crosses her arms over her chest looking somewhere else that wasn’t at him.

“Okay, that’s fine.” He whispered walking out of her bedroom closing the door behind him and she collapsed onto her bed letting out a small frustrated groan hearing the door open once more seeing it was Alex.

“Dinner is ready if you’re coming down.”

“Not now.”

“If it was a couple of months ago you would’ve said yes, besides you saved yourself from looking stupid if he actually did hurt you. Val, you did something that was so hard but so right for you.” Alyssa comforted her sitting on her bed hugging her friend Spencer and Alex sitting on the bed too.

“Did you really think you and Ryan would’ve actually made it work? He made some shitty mistakes while you were dating and somehow you still dated him.” Alex said, she pulled away shrugging wiping the tears off her cheeks, “I said no anyway, even if I said yes I would feel stupid.”

“Come on, you gave yourself an opportunity to find someone.” Spencer offered a smile, the two others nodding, “yeah you could make a move with Trevor—“

“I don’t like Trevor. At least like that.”

“Oh right sorry—“

“what?! She knows and I don’t! You tell me everything! That’s so not fair!” Alex cut Alyssa off upset, Valerie smiled laughing, “She doesn’t know.”

“It’s case isn’t it?” Alex asked mainly to Alyssa, she nodded her head, Alex looked back over at Valerie who shook her head, “it’s not case and it’s not Trevor.”

“I bet you it’s Case.”

“It’s not Case! Let it go!”

“What about me?” The door opened and case was standing there at the door with jack, she slumped down nervously in her bed Alyssa pushing her foot of her, Valerie looked over at him shaking his head, “nothing.”

“Okay,” he laughed, she gave him a smile and he closed the door behind him leaving, she watched the door close feeling a pillow hit her in the face looking at Alyssa smiling, “you like him!”

“Pardon me?” She grabbed the pillow hitting her friend on the head getting up out of her bed to throw on a sweatshirt.

“Please your eyes gave it away.” Spencer chuckled, Alex agreeing, she climbed back onto her bed sitting next to Alex, “what? I gave him nothing?”

The door opening again, case and jack coming in joining on the bed, “hey, you’re feeling better.” Jack smiled climbing into where she was sitting before throwing the blankets over him, and case sat next to her.

“Yeah, I guess.” She shrugged, Case nudging her shoulder causing her to look over at him, “come on, out of all the guys your brother played with I still can’t believe you picked Ryan.” Case laughed, she shrugged a smile tugging onto her face, “does that bother you?”

“It did to me.”

“No shit, twin.”

CHAPTER SIX

A/N: this is the new chapter six if you somehow got to read the other chapter six!

There was a knock on the front door that next morning and Valerie ran downstairs pulling open the door seeing Case standing there, “oh, umm is jack here?”

“No, he’s out with Alex, what’s up?” She opened the door a bit further letting him in closing the door behind him once he stepped inside.

“I umm left my wallet here last night, I was wondering if he found it?” He asked and she nodded her head motioning for him to follow her into the kitchen.

“Look I’m really sorry for walking in—“

“Don’t worry about it, here.” She handed him his wallet quickly, he nodded taking it shoving it into his back pocket now.

“So I hear you’re going to homecoming with Trevor? Must be excited.” He asked, she had been excited, but she knew bringing Trevor meant a whole lot of questions from everyone at school along with rumors and possibly being called to the principles office just because everyone was making up bullshit lies.

“I suppose,” she whispered climbing into the seat around the island and case stood on the other side leaned up against the counter, “why?”

She sighed, “It’s just if I bring him everyone is going to be all judgmental and then think I’m using jack to get to you guys and that’s not what I want. That happened last time and things got out of hand.”

“What happened—“

“Home!” Alex and Jack both announced walking in the house with food in their hands, Jack came around the corner, “hey who’s cars out—oh makes more sense.”

“Yeah sorry I left my wallet here then I started talking with Val.” He said, jack walking in the kitchen handing her some lunch before walking out again, “so what about last year?”

“so this is high school hockey? It kind of sucks.” Ryan slid down the bleacher bumping into her jokingly, she accidentally bumped into the popular girls by accident, the two apologizing only for them to recognize Ryan. He was considered one of the “cute” or “hot” guys on her brothers team, and Valerie agreed with that having gone out with him a few times not making anything official just yet.

“Yeah it does.” She moved closer to him to get warm, all the rinks she ever played at or watched Jack, Quinn, or Luke were never this cold compared to the rink they were at. “Here have my jacket.” He took off the similar jacket to Jacks throwing it around her body before she stuck her arms through.

“Looks better on you.” He laughed, standing up, “let’s get out of here, I’m bored.” He held out his hand and she took it following him out of the rink.

“After that Friday going back on Monday jack knew about me and Ryan and people were spreading so many rumors about us.” She whispered keeping a gaze on her fingers rather than looking up at Case.

“Is that why you guys broke up?”

“No, we broke up because he left ntdp and it would be too hard.” She snapped looking up at him, his hands up in defense, “sorry nobody knew! Jack or Alex wouldn’t spill what happened between you guys.”

“For good reasons, Case.” She pointed to one of the drawers he was leaned up against and he grabbed a fork handing it to her, “well I’m sure that won’t be the same with Trevor.”

“But it will, it involves a lot of the same people, plus people will think I’m like slut for the entire team and then Ryan will find out even though I told him I wouldn’t move on from him—“

“Ryan, does not have to know, Val. Besides, when did you both start talking again? All we knew was Jack said you were done with him?”

“I’m not,” she admitted digging into her food looking away from him, “Val, maybe you need to tell Trevor all of this.”

“All of what?” Alex came into the kitchen sitting down beside Valerie with his lunch now, “it’s just about Ryan—“

“What? Are you seeing him again?!” Alex asked sounding excited when she shook her head denying his excitement, “no, it’s just I don’t want what happened with Ryan to happen with Trevor.”

“Oh,” he nodded his head, “well talk to Trevor if you don’t tell him he won’t know.”

“Why were you all talking about Ryan? Thought we moved on from him?” Jack looked directly at her standing next to Case now, “yeah I have.” She lied getting up out of the chair taking her food putting it in the fridge.

“You barely ate any—“

“I’m not really hungry.” She lied once more heading upstairs to her bedroom now, jack knew the tone, but deciding to drop it.

“Well I’m going to head off. See you guys.” Case said leaving their house looking back at it before entering his car, contemplating sending Valerie a text telling her she shouldn’t be hung up on a guy who probably doesn’t know she feels this way. Knowing it was pointless he got into his car only knowing he would just only make her upset.

Case wanted to be the guy going with her, but having a girlfriend who only wanted him to be with her and not even go with Valerie as friends, was hard. She would kill him with the thoughts he was having right now. But he had to let them go, because he was in a relationship and she was back to talking to someone who broke her heart.
