Christmas party at Tardwrangler Co today!
Good food, koldtbord with medisterkake, lompe, sausages, potatoes, flatbread and other Norwegian treats, cake for dessert.
As special event, there was a history quiz for autists and special tards: which century did this happen in? Team-based answers, so we got to hear people reasoning and arguing about how to derive the answers, which was half the fun for people who know lots of miscellaneous facts but not this exact trivia. It was a lot of fun, at least for me. :^D Here's an idea of what it was like:
Organizer: "First question gets hints - which century did the Mayflower carry the Pilgrims from England to America? Consider that this is after Columbus but before American independence, which narrows it down."
(people chattering about 1400s-1800s)
Organizer: "Next question, which century was the Dutch East India company founded? It would grow to become one of the largest and most powerful companies in existence, richer than many states."
(people discussing answers)
Organizer: "You realize that both of these belong to the colonial period, right? Your answers should be close to each other."
(people hurriedly amending answers, arguing which one should be brought forwards or back relative to the other)
Organizer: "Which century was gunpowder first used in war in China?"
(Table to my left: "I know China had it well before Europe, maybe 1100s?" Table to my right: "I know that one is far earlier than people give it credit for, let's say 300s.")
Organizer: "If I say Richard the Lionheart, who of you know him from the Crusades and who knows him better as the good king in Robin Hood?" (people shouting both) "Anyway, which century did he fight Saladin in the Crusades? - this is mostly a question about when the Crusades happened."
(Nearby table: "Patrick, you keep sperging out about playing Crusader Kings, you answer this one for us.")
Organizer: "Which century was the grand library-university called the House of Wisdom founded in Baghdad?"
(Guy who has the right idea but the sadly wrong facts: "Must have been in one of the quieter periods of that region's history, so after Alexander the Great but before the rise of Islam. 400s?")
Organizer: "In which century was Ivan the Terrible terrorizing Russia?"
(Patrick the Crusader Kings player: "Well I know Russia doesn't exist yet in 1444 because that's when the sequel game EU4 starts, so it's gotta be after that.")
