Watched the first ep of Serendipity's Embrace and am peacing out.

There is nothing wrong with it but nothing right either. It feels very much like a 1990s American romcom and if I wanted to watch that, I would, I don't need a 2024 Korean version.

I am going to sound like an old man shouts at cloud person but I really miss older kdramas - the ones from 00s and early to mid teens. Nowadays, more and more of them feel like American shows with Korean actors and there is a reason I don't watch many American shows - they are not my thing.

Also, the characters in this ep feel awfully paint by the numbers - a sort of genetic young business success, a generic quirky (but not too quirky) girl, etc etc. Nothing grabs me. The actors are of course competent in their roles but there really isn't much for them to do.

Both kdramas and cdramas are becoming blander and blander and less and less intense (though for very different reasons) and there are less and less of them airing each year that hook me.

Serendipity (Richie x Mikey)

Richie Jerimovich carefully balanced the bag of snacks as he led Michael Berzatto through the narrow hallway and into the living room of his house. “So, what do you want to do first? Movies or games?” Richie asked, glancing over at Michael as he kicked off his shoes and dropped his backpack by the couch. He tried to sound casual, but the presence of his best friend always made his heart race a little faster.

Michael looked around, taking in the organized chaos of the living room with a soft smile. “Let’s start with a movie,” he said, plopping down on the couch and stretching out. “How about ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’? It’s a classic.” He said as he pulled out a medium bag of post-crushed Skunk and began to roll a few joints on the coffee table.

It’s funky, it’s weed, something that the boys love to do in their free time.

Richie grinned, pleased with the choice of movie.

He said, grabbing the remote and setting up the movie on the old TV that sat on a wooden stand against the wall. As he did, he glanced over at Michael. “By the way, my mom’s out for the night, so we’ve got the whole place to ourselves. She’s visiting my aunt in Oak Park.”

Michael raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. “So, it’s just you and me, huh? No one to check in on us?” He sparks his Doobie and takes a pull and passes it to Rich; he takes the blunt and pulls hard and nods.

“Yep,” Richie choked and coughed through replies, trying to keep his tone light, though the thought of being alone with Michael sent a thrill through him that he couldn’t quite hide. “We can like..do whatever we want.”
