The brainrot took over and so here's a vat7k hadestown au!! Don't know if I'll develop it fully but I liked designing it at least!
More info under the cut:
- Varian, the Coronan royal alchemist, tasks himself with deciphering an incantation capable of bringing the world back into tune. Times are tough, and the royal family + Quirin are doing their best to cope with the meagre crop yields and desolate weather (Corona not really being the sunshine kingdom - hasn't been for a while). He wants to help and do good and I think he'd be a good Orpheus.
- Hugo, having moved about from place to place, still has his interest in alchemy and does what he can to get by. He plans on temporarily staying in Corona before looting, but he encounters a certain like-minded scientist at the Snuggly Duckling. I think him being selfish works especially well in Eurydice's role, having a more pessimistic view of the world. It also works with how he gets drawn to Donella's offer of working for her later on, leading him to his death.
- Ulla as Persephone! I was initially stuck on whether to have Rapunzel (and either Eugene/Cass) as her (and Hades) but I was drawn to the connection that Hugo has to Donella and the Donella/Ulla relationship in vat7k just works too well. In this case, Ulla won't be Varian's mother. She's still gonna be somewhat of an inspiration to him though, being the previous Coronan royal alchemist and for her intelligence. For half the year, she'll return to Corona with food, drinks, and alchemical compounds/inventions, bringing Spring and Summer to the world, if only for a bit.
- Donella would be such an interesting Hades, losing sight of her love for Ulla, heart filled with fear and hurt, leading to bitterness and cruelty. Ingvarr being Hadestown and how by being the esteemed Ingvarrian engineer, she'd be in charge of major technological advances across the kingdoms and so would wield a significant amount of power (like how Hades is literally the ruler of the underworld). Ingvarr essentially being a near death sentence for its workers while also displaying its technological prowess, all still shrouded in mystery and corruption - a place so otherworldly compared to the rest of the kingdoms.
I didn't want to modify the outfits too much nor the personalities,, if anything I imagine the general plot beats being the same as the original musical/story but with slight differences that'd you get inherently as a result of these characters. I wouldn't want it to be the case where it's just the show but the names are changed. I'd want this to still make reasonable sense in this AU, with the actions being understandable for this particular cast of characters.
For Hermes, I ended up picking Xavier, as he's most knowledgeable of old legends and stories, which would work in reference to the Hades and Persephone myth (and so Donella and Ulla)! He'd act as a mentor figure for V, someone who can guide him in uncovering the forgotten incantation. Quirin would still be the good supportive dad he is (even if he doesn't fully understand his son's project).
Last but not least, the fates!! often lurking in the background, I'm still a bit stuck on who it could be? I'm tempted to have it be Raps, Cass, and Nuru as they've had celestial connections at some point (and ya know how stars can represent fate), but I also love the freckled siblings dynamic so much. Also Team Radical... Maybe Raps and Cass can be their normal selves but their Sundrop/Moonstone counterparts are the manifested physical forms of the fates? They wouldn't be visible to the characters though, just voices in the wind.
Anyways yeah!! Those are my thoughts. Do let me know if you've got any cool ideas or questions. I'm really combining my interests at full force and there's nothing anyone, not even myself, can do about it quite frankly. 😮‍💨

I was randomly thinking about this part in one of my favorite mangas (My Love Mix-Up!) and thought it really fit Varian and Hugo.
(The individual pages are read right to left‼️)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess this is a kind of follow up to the modern au school dance drawing
I don’t think I did a very good job at making Quirin look intimidating (especially compared to Hashimoto’s dad lmfao) but I did what I could.
I’m drawing them as straight ppl again,,,, that’s 4 times now,, Akkun & Hashimoto aren’t even the main characters, they’re a side couple. I guess Varian and Hugo are just straight coded idk /j

Why So Blue?
Tumblr media
Alright, Baby Varian writes about a lot science stuff in my Crescent Moon TTS comic (exemplified on this page and the next: https://berryjammer7.tumblr.com/post/637645850521272320/crescent-moon-pg-01 ), so now I am going to extrapolate excessively about it to provide you all with even more needless details--specifically about the science of blue! (This will be a long one and a lot of text, so grab some tea or something)
Firstly, let’s talk about what most fans know about Varian’s blue hair streak. The blue streak does exist. He’s had it since he was a baby as seen in a photo from the show, and the color eyedropper tool in my art app tells me that is blue (NOT green, you colorblind fools). Then there’s the whole theory that Varian’s dad Quirin absorbed some of the moonstone while working with the brotherhood after it exploded a little bit (as one does). Then he passed that on to Varian. All of which is well and good.
But let’s talk about the SCIENCE!
Ironically, this is not the first time I’ve dealt with blue hair [insert artist backstory]. Before TTS even came out, I created an OC I named Blueberry (my user-name-sake) who also has blue hair:
Tumblr media
(Don’t judge the anatomy, I was a baby artist)
Blue, as it turns out, is actually very rare in nature, and this sci-show youtube video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9cdoPD51bng provides a pretty good summary of why that is (and how pigments work in general).
So while I had long since determined Blueberry had a plant based pigment that made his hair blue (anthocyanin), Varian clearly had some sort of mineral based pigment from the moonstone. I’m guessing he only ever had enough passed on from his dad to turn his hair slightly blue (until he snatched the moon shard in my comic, that is).
But I’m going to take this one step further. Varian’s hair is black, and if you’ve ever tried to dye dark hair, you’ll know that it is hard for any color to stand out without bleaching it first. And that’s where Poliosis comes in.
If Varian has a single strand of hair that produces no melanin, then the blue pigment can show more clearly. I find this to be a really cool option because I actually have poliosis (or something similar.)
Tumblr media
(Kinda like reverse Rapunzel, amiright? My blonde streak is somewhere on the back of my head though, so not as cool.) This is also called a Mallen streak, but because that term is more modern coming from a book series set in the 19th century, using it in the comic is a bit anachronistic. The condition has been associated with witchcraft for a long time though, which seems fitting for someone dealing with the magic of the moonstone (whether he ‘works with magic’ or no.)
So yeah! That’s it! Seriously, go watch that sci-show episode, blue is SO COOL! I do wanna add a disclaimer though—if I am wrong on any of this science stuff let’s just all pretend it’s due to the limits of scientific knowledge at the time the comic is set rather than my own fallibility.😅 Maybe people already know all this stuff, but I just never see it talked about!
+++++
Bonus, this Wikipedia link for Al-Jazari: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ismail_al-Jazari Guys, this fellow is credited with making all sorts of automata (!?!), as well as the first flushing toilet—he deserves your respect!

🎃🍁(More) Tangled Fall Headcanons🍁🎃
(should I start tagging these?)
Rapunzel still makes hand turkeys. She never got to do them as a kid she makes a whole production out of it and makes everyone do it with her.
Cass loves slasher movies, so do Eugene and Kiera. Catalina and Lance prefer ghost movies. Varian likes true crime and lost media/urban legends. Rapunzel doesn’t really like horror, she can appreciate a good ghost story but that’s about it. I feel like she would like urban legends as well, since some of them contain love stories or life lessons. I’ve said this before, but Eugene and Varian are true crime buddies. When they’re together at home and just hanging out on the couch, there’s a 99% chance Investigation Discovery, Bailey Sarian, or Buzzfeed Unsolved is playing. If they’re on a road trip, they’re listening to some sort of murder podcast.
Varian and Quirin let the others go apple picking on their farm free of charge. As long as they share some of their bounty with them to make a pie with. Max is very happy with this deal.
Rapunzel always goes to football games at the local school, even if she has no idea what is going on. She relies on Lance and Eugene to tell her who’s winning. (Varian 100% dated the quarterback somehow and it ended horribly)
Rapunzel and Catalina collect pretty leaves. Varian does for science. (he thinks they’re pretty too)
Lance loves soup season. He lives for soup season. He is soup season.
Varian collect cinnamon scented things. So do Catalina and Lance.
Quirin loves to bake in the fall. Apple pie, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, etc. it is not uncommon for Hector and Adira to stop by around this time. (If the leaves are changing, Quirin’s got free food)
Lance loves French toast pancakes.
Quirin fuckin loves Arsenic and Old Lace. So do Lance and Eugene honestly. Lance loves I Married A Witch. Rapunzel loves Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas. Kiera loves Beetlejuice. Cat and Varian love Coraline. Cass loves Halloween.
Kiera makes fun of Varian for being a theater kid, but if she sticks around when he plays Beetlejuice The Musical…well that’s her business.
Varian and Eugene aren’t the biggest fans of fall but they’re just happy to go back to regular coffee instead of iced. Varian is looking forward to wearing sweats again.
Rapunzel makes everyone hand made sweaters.
Quirin always has the coolest dad sweaters and everyone gets jealous that Varian gets to wear them. Sometimes Eugene gets nephew privileges.
Quirin hosts Thanksgiving for his family + Varian’s family (aka Quirin’s adopted children) but regularly gets into passive-aggressive fights with Lance over who cooks the turkey.
There was a mix up once and Quirin accidentally brought home a live turkey, and Rapunzel and Var wouldn’t let him kill it. They named him Eritrea because they thought it was a cool name.
Varian listens to Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood.

I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT THE ROBOT AU....what happened when varian went back home? Did he confront his father about the situation? Also, I hope you're having a good day/night and the art for this is really good.
GOOD QUESTION btw i have some really good bread with me ur welcome to take some
i think by the time he gets home he has made more peace with it than, yknow, when he first found out. but he would still probably be rightfully upset LOL
i think they would definitely have a Moment when he comes home. i think in this au it is something he is Terrified of. thankfully his friends are there to support him. so yeah, some sort of confrontation happens. he probably ends up yelling at his dad, emotions get elevated. especially since his dad's response is both shock and concern about How he is doing ok with his "code" seemingly broken (as in: he now recognizes himself as a robot)
but quirin apologizes, he should not have kept ulla's secret from varian. but he also explains it's because he was so scared of varian getting hurt, that varian's mother promised it would only lead to him breaking or worse, and he could never live with himself if that happened. because varian is and has always been his son

As heartwarming as the epilogue is, It does encapsulate a problem I have with the show: it’s that it has these big payoffs that are usually satisfactory in the moment, but had very little build up
Rapunzel becoming a good queen?: On paper that is extremely fitting. But here’s the thing: other than other characters mentioning that she was gonna become queen, we never actually got to see Rapunzel realizing just how big of a responsibility that is, and the process of her learning what it means to be a good ruler. There’s bits and pieces of it (Great Tree, the painting episode, etc) but it never really sticks
Eugene becoming captain of the guards?: Where did that even come from?! Honestly, it felt like the writers didn’t really know what to do with him. The closest we got to an arc for him was the Dark Kingdom, but that gets kinda forgotten about, and doesn’t affect his character all that much.
Cassandra going off to find a path that’ll make her truly happy?: Again, conceptually fitting, but it wasn’t properly fleshed out or set up because for 99% of the season Cass whined about Gothel and like 5 other things that barely related
Varian reconciling with and feeling validated his dad?: Well Qurin wrote this letter back in “Queen for a Day”, shortly before getting trapped in the amber, and it was stated to have been something very important. But come season 3 it turns out the letter just says “I proud of U :)” , and all the baggage is instantly resolved, Varian is a okay now, yipeeeeee-. Like nice sentiment but we were promised more.
To be fair, I'm not at all positive that Rapunzel is supposed to be the queen at the end of the series. Her accepting the crown means she's officially ready to officially have the responsibility she's been carrying out for the entire season.
Tumblr media
But when you look at the finale scene, Frederic and Arianna are still wearing their crowns.
Tumblr media
But when you see them being casual (not "on the clock" as it were) they don't wear them. So, I don't think Rapunzel is meant to be queen in the epilogue, just officially ready to take on all responsibilities of Crown Princess.
I was never too fond of Eugene becoming Captain. It's sort of... the "natural" conclusion of "Fitzherbert P.I.," where he's shown not being a fit for the guard. Over the course of the series, he becomes more responsible, more reliable, and moreover, he's Rapunzel's #1 defender. I still don't like him as Captain, though, and I personally headcanon that he only keeps it up for a couple years, tops, before turning the guard over to Maximus. After all, the movie's epilogue implies that Max is the one who keeps the kingdom crime-free, and that Eugene has nothing to do with it.
Cassandra actually spent most of the series dissatisfied with her lot in life, and "Beginnings" even shows that she's not happy in Corona and would rather be somewhere else. Besides, I headcanon that she was soft-banished for taking Corona over. That's why she wasn't expected to help clean up the mess she made; because Rapunzel very lovingly told her she had to go and wasn't welcome there anymore.
As for Varian, his plot resolved at the beginning of S2. I know a lot of people really would have liked to see more with him and Quirin, but that wasn't a loose end for me. What little we saw of them showed that they were getting along better and making an effort to be a part of each other's lives. But while Varian achieved main character status, in actually, he's physically in 15 of 60 episodes (including the pilot), and two of those episodes ("Not In the Mood" and "King and Queen of Hearts") he's barely in them, so it's more like 13 episodes, which is less than 22% (21.66666666 etc%) of the series. Then he has his imaginary cameo in "Happiness Is..." So as much as people love him, he's not actually a major part of the overall series plot, in general, and his presence in S3 is more about how he now gets along with the gang than his dad. That's not really a flaw of the series, IMO.

Five Tangled AUs I'll Never Write Because I Don't Have The Time
1. Eugene gets adopted by Quirin instead of going to the orphanage.
He still becomes Flynn Rider and rescues Rapunzel from the tower, but his turn to crime is due to a falling out between him and his dad after his and Varian's mom disappears under mysterious circumstances.
Quirin is keeping secrets, and thier relationship is strained, but after meeting Rapunzel, Eugene is trying to mend that relationship with him... Only for the amber incident to cut that short.
Obviously the biggest change here is that Eugene and Varian are brothers, so Varian isn't left alone after the snow storm. Rather, Eugene is trying to protect Varian from King Frederic while also trying to stay in his future father-in-law's good graces... All while dealing with his own grief.
This drastically changes the conflict and outcome of season one. Forcing Rapunzel to confront her father directly and own up to his misdeeds, and brings Varian along on the season two road trip.
Also Eugene has even less reason to accept Edmund because Quirin is the man who raised him and is his 'real dad' for all intents and purposes.
Also, thier mom, Ulla, being trapped by Zan Tiri and finally escaping would be a major plot point in season three.
2. Digimon AU
Rapunzel, Eugene, Cassandra, Varian, Lance, Styalan, and Caine are all college students who get sucked into the digital world.
They each get their own digimon and must face off against the seven digimon demon lords in order to return home, and in doing so confront their own worse vices.
Rapunzel's digimon is Coronamon. She is The Leader of the group and her element is Fire/Light/Sun. Her nemesis is Belphemon, and her main vice is Sloth. Because she keeps avoiding her problems by chasing after frivolous pursuits. Such as standing up to her abusive mother Gothel, or dealing with her responsibilities as the leader of her team.
Eugene’s partner is Kudamon. He’s The Mediator of the group. The voice of reason and common sense. His elemental is Wind. His nemesis is Lucemon, and his main vice is Pride, for his uses vanity to compensate for his low self esteem born from growing up in the foster system.
Cassandra’s digimon is Lunamon, and her rival is Leviamon. Her fatal flaw is Envy, for she’s jealous of Rapunzel. She’s The Second in Command; because she offers a counter balance to Rapunzel’s way of doing things, but they butt heads often. Her element is Darkness/Moon.
Varian is The Brains of the outfit. His digimon is Labramon, who can change to either a vaccine or virus upon evolution. However his main thematic element is Electricity. His nemesis is Daemon and his vice is Wrath. As the youngest in the group, he often feels unheard and will lash out in anger.
Lance is The Heart of the team, as he’s forever the optimist. His digimon is Otamamon and his element is Water. His rival is Beelzemon, and his fatal flaw is Gluttony, for he never had enough growing up in the foster care system, therefore he shows no restraint when given opportunities, even if it means hurting someone else.
Caine is The Muscle of the group. Her digimon, Goblimon, is a heavy hitter when he digivoles, and she’s the most likely to throw a punch against a monster on her own. Her enemy is Barbamon, and her vice is Greed. She’s criminal on the run for theft, but it’s a life she feels she was forced into. Her element is Metal/Ground.
Stalyan is The Chick, for lack of a better trope term. She’s daddy’s spoiled little rich girl who is in for a rude wake up call when she gets to the Digital World. Her digimon is Floramon and her element is Grass. Her rival is Laylamon and her fatal flaw is Lust. She’s in love with Eugene, but he doesn’t return her feelings. Her obsession with him, is tied to her own insecurities and desires for being accepted.
3. Prince Varian
Varian is Rapunzel’s little brother. He’s actually Arianna and Quirin’s son, but Frederic raised him as his own. Both are ignorant of Varian’s true parentage, with Varian just believing Quirin is his bodyguard/mentor.
Yet with the return of his long lost sister Varian feels even more out of place with in the Castle and keeps sneaking off to Old Corona to visit Quirin, who is now a retired knight, and to work on his experiments in secret.
Only the truth comes out after a horrible lab accident that traps Quirin in amber, and now Varian doesn’t know where he belongs.
4. Eugene is raised by Hector
Horace knows who he is and his duty to keep the moonstone safe. He has rarely traveled beyond the great tree. But he begins to question his entire place in the world when a group of travelers come in search of his family's treasure, with one of them claiming to be the living embodiment of the fabled Sundrop.
Since Eugene/Horace never left the Great Tree, he never became Flynn Rider, never stole the crown, and never met Rapunzel in the tower.
This means Rapunzel never leaves on her 18th birthday to see the lights, but her tower is destroyed by the black rocks six months later. Leaving her and Mother Gothel without a home.
While in search of a new place to live they meet, Varian, who is trying to figure out the mystery of the rocks, Cassandra, who is searching for the lost princess to prove her worth to her dad, and Lance, a thief who offers to be their guide in order to hide from the Stabbingtons who he owes money too.
The five of them go on a quest to find the moonstone when Varian shows them the piece of his father's scroll (who is not trapped in amber this time) much to the discouragement/disapproval of Mother Gothel.
Gothel tries to dismiss the legends of the moonstone while keeping her and Rapunzel's identities secret. (Everyone figures out she's the Sundrop/connected to the rocks right away, but not that's she's the lost princess) But as she can't be too far away from her precious flower for too long she gets dragged on the quest anyways.
Cue Gothel reluctantly becoming everyone's mama as she tries to keep them alive and convince Raps to give up this silly quest and find a new home, while also not letting it slip that she's really Cass's birth mother, nor the thief of the long lost princess, nor an ancient sorceress who betrayed a powerful demon in order to have eternal youth and said demon could come back to kill them all if released by the Sundrop touching the Moonstone.
Basically what I'm getting at is we have a scenario where a manipulative asshole who is desperately just trying to survive while not being caught in her web of lies, is slowly coming to care for a bunch of snot-nosed, bratty, insecure teenagers, and she hates it!
This also means that by the time the gang reaches the Great Tree, Rapunzel's and Eugene's roles are reversed. She's the experienced adventurer using him, though unintentionally on her part, to get what she wants, while unexpectedly falling in love, and he's the sheltered shut in who discovers that there's more to the world.
And just to complicate matters, King Frederic, Quirin, and Adria, team up to invade The Dark Kingdom in order to destroy the moonstone with Adria's sword. Quirin betraying his brother Edmund because he thinks Varian is dead from the rocks having destroyed their village/castle in the night.
5. Cassandra is the Dark Princess
I mean, I think this should have been cannon anyways, but Cassandra and Eugene are long lost siblings. Both are heirs to the Dark Kingdom and it's their mom who is left alive to guard the Moonstone.
Said Mom thought they were both lost when the kingdom fell, not knowing that their nurse saved them on the night Edmund went mad.
The Queen convinces Cassandra that protecting the moonstone from the Sundrop is her duty, believing that both coming together will destroy the world. Not realizing that Cass would actually grab it away from Raps in their fight over it and become possessed by Zahn Tiri in the process.

Opinion on Quirin
An absolutely flawed character for sure.
A man full of many secrets yet of very few words. And I really wished S3 utilized him better because S1 almost set him up to have a decently relevant role in part of the overall lore (and yet it went almost fucking nowhere kms). He warned Frederic of the repercussions of plucking out the sundrop flower AND served for the moonstone. A good close friend to both the kings of Corona AND the Dark kingdom, for goodness sake!! A character like that screams plot relevance if I ever fuckin seen one, come the fuck onnnn. Like that man was carrying so many secret lore and I need him to spill them to me I am begging, why did his ass hadda be cryptically vague like his sister Adira AGHH
They should have let his character get involved in S3 because remember when he said he had something to tell Varian in S1?? It definitely had somethin to do with more lore about the sundrop and moondrop if the sequence of event leading to that scene was anything to go by.
Helping Varian (and his friends aka the fucking princess) figure out a way to somehow disarm Cassandra who currently stole the moonstone (which something he definitely knows a lot of more than he let on all this time) and is misusing its power to cause damage and harm would have been the perfect opening to show us them reforming their bonds as father and son. Quirin having the appropriate time and opening to FINALLY talk and say what he initially wanted to back in S1 because this time Varian is more than ready to hear it all, like I really think his input could've been massively fuckin helpful to the gang and Varian finally creating meaningful connections with his dad, and said connection being kindled through talking about where dad came from??? essentially also him getting to know more about his ancestral home in the dark kingdom???
LIKE TTS WRITERS—THE OPPORTUNITY WAS RIGHT FUCKING THERE HOW DID YALL MISSED THAT AND LET IT SLIP, KMS ISTG PULLING MY HAIR OUTTT
Anyway, Quirin's quite interesting cuz he's carrying so much mystery in his character. I have reservations on the way he handled the black rocks situation in S1 and the way he handled being a figure in Varian's life but I suppose it's hard enough that he's a single parent, let alone is also essentially the chief leader of their village on top of that and people in their community relied on him for solutions when trouble arises so I suppose I'll cut the man some slack for his shortcomings. I know he was doing the best he can and trying his hardest to do what he thought was the right call.

Help me with my AU
okay so i kinda have no idea what to do from here so im gonna post my first draft (mostly written at 3am) and you guys tell me if the plot is good and the plot holes I need to fix and also a name for the AU because i just found out people name their AUs and i can't just call mine "my tangled au" forever yk
please tell me if it's shit i need to know that to make it better (but also keep in mind that it's the first general idea)
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
a world where only eugene, rapunzel and her parents know about her powers and everyone else thinks her hair just turned brown as she aged and there was nothing special about her rapidly growing blonde hair as a baby. cassandra never takes her to the rocks and her hair never grows back and she lives her life normally, apart from having to adapt to a new world and dealing with trauma from being in the tower
moon is eugene's lost sister and her mom died birthing her. she absorved all of the moonstone's powers because her mom was around it so much and now the moonstone is almost harmless because moon carries almost all the power, that's why she has the ability to recite the spell
king edmund sent everyone away and stayed in the kingdom taking care of moon after finding out about her powers, scared that she would harm someone, but as she grew up, she questioned why she was stuck in an empty castle with her dad, why she couldn't explore the world, but the king only told her it was too dangerous (the only thing he didnt tell her was that it wasnt the world that was dangerous for her, it was the opposite) so one day when she was 15 she found a scroll in her father's bedroom and she saw that there was a drawing of the moonstone- the same stone that is in the center room of the castle that her father doesn't let her enter- and a lot of symbols that she couldn't decipher so she found a way to run out of the castle at night and find out the truth about that stone and why her father kept her there. after walking for days she finally found a village with people so she went up to the first person she saw for answers, and she showed a nice old woman the scroll and asked if she knew what it meant and she smiled and took her into her home. she figured what it said very quickly and asked moon to read the decay incantation, to which she only smiled as the little girl was possessed by moon magic, unable to stop reciting the spell. "you own the moonstone, don't you?" the old woman asked her, to which she responded explaining where she came from and that the moonstone is locked up, so she took the woman back to the kingdom after she manipulated moon into thinking she needed the moonstone, only to try to steal it at the last second. fortunately, king edmund saw the old woman (an old spirit and follower of zhan tiri) and stopped her forever. he then decided that moon wasn't even safe stuck in the dark kingdom and did a spell to wipe all of her memories and made the crows take her somewhere she could live a new and anonymous life, hopefully being saved by a kind family. the only thing he didn't know was that she sent the girl still with the demanitus scroll in her pocket to varian's house in old corona
varian also has some moonstone power but not enough to kill people like moon, in his maximum capacity he would only be able to put someone in a coma, but that would take a lot of his energy. his mom is a descendent of demanitus and she met quirin through studying the magic of the sundrop and moonstone, and they were around the moonstone a lot, but not as much as the queen, so that's why varian has magic but a lot less than moon
varian never believed that rapunzel was magically brought back with different hair and the person who kidnapped him just died. he knew that woman must've had a reason to kidnap the princess and keep her hidden for 18 years, why doesn't the rest of the kingdom know the reason? the queen drank tea from a magic healing flower that cured her deathly disease and rapunzel was born with long hair the same color as the flower, then she was kidnapped and came back with the opposite- short brown hair- and those facts have nothing to do with each other? so when that mysterious girl showed up at his doorstep with a scroll about that same flower, he knew it was a sign for him to investigate

my TTS/VAT7K headcanons part I | Varian
- He/Him transmasc
- Tangled universe equivalent to Indian and German. (Ulla is German, Quirin is Indian and Italian)
- He can speak Coronan (German), The in-universe equivalent to Hindi, Saporian, Ingvarrian (Russian), and short bits of other languages like Latin. Despite his Grandma being Italian (look at my Quirin Headcanon’s) he never learned it fluently since his dad never spoke it to him but he did try and pick it up. One day when V was like 12 he just decided he wanted to learn as many languages as possible.
- Invented most modern cleaning supplies (hoover/vacuum, hand held hoover/vacuum, those special mops, etc) after the science expo to help Cass out
- Quirin taught him how to use a bow and throwing daggers, whenever Varian isn’t reading or doing experiments he is probably practicing his aim. (this is why he’s so good w throwing goo bombs and hitting on target).
- Quirin didn’t speak about the brotherhood but he did raise Varian with some of its culture, (bedtime stories, recipes, superstitions)
- Varian and Quirin speak mostly Coronan at home but will sometimes speak in Hindi (the in-universe equivalent)
- When Varian is frustrated he will sometimes exclaim in Hindi since no one else knows what he’s saying and he can curse all he wants. also he shit talks people in Hindi (he gets in trouble if Quirin hears him).
- Came out as trans at like 7 after cutting all his hair off in the bathroom sink. Quirin has better things to worry about than his kids gender so he is fine with Varian being himself
- although he hates Andrew and the Saporians, he still keeps the bandana with him. He mostly uses it to keep his hair tied back when doing experiments.

When Eugene woke up he yawned and stretched his arms but he looked around and noticed that he was in an unfamiliar/familiar place when he got out of bed he noticed that it wasn’t an extra large purple blanket and no sight of Rapunzel then he heard a knock on his door. “Eugene! You're gonna be late for your coronation.” Lance said as he pulled out Eugene's outfit
"You know how your dad gets about you being late especially for important events.”
Lance then quickly went to his closet and grabbed his coronation outfit and placed it on his bed then there was a knock on the door
“Horace are you there sweetheart?” It was a female voice but why did she sound familiar could it be… the door opened revealing his mother who walked over too him concernly
“Are you alright dear?..your shaking.”
Eugene looked down at his hands and realized that he was indeed shaking he didn’t even notice “Yeah man you look like you’ve seen a ghost or something.”
Lance commented as he noticed how pale Eugene looked. Eugene sat on his bed and sighed deeply
“I…I don’t understand why I’m I at the Dark kingdom did something happen in Corona where’s Rapunzel?! Varian Lance we’re are your kids?” Lance and the Queen looked at each other confused and concerned Martha looked at her son and said
“Honey nothing bad happened in Corona or Rapunzel frankly I didn’t even know you knew Rapunzel.” Lance then chucked “Yeah and me having kids please you probably dreamed about that stuff….and Varian is here I believe he’s training with his father.” Lance then grabbed Eugene’s uniform and said “you should really get dressed though.”
Martha nodded her head in agreement she kissed Eugene on the forehead and said as she left.
“Also I originally came to tell you that the pastor still has too say your real name instead of Eugene .. I know you don’t want to hear them say Horace but it’s the rules to say your given name.”
Eugene just sighed in disappointment as his mother left.
“Welp you’d tried pfft ha Horace man what a name.” Lance noticed that Eugene was Spacing out again “Sorry Lance I…I guess this dream I is getting really getting into my head But I’ll get dressed.”
Once Eugene was dressed he went too sit with his father for lunch he saw Varian enter with his father Quirin who was wearing his brothhood armor outfit Quirin was walking towards Hector fist bumping him. Okay that was odd even for him then he saw Lance kissing Adira on the cheek and laughing at something that Quirin had said but he didn’t quite hear the joke. Varian sat next to him at the table.
“Training today was very difficult hopefully you have a easier day than I had dad made me climb up a mountain…A MOUNTAIN!!” Varian exclaimed as he shook Eugene back and forth with his hands on his shoulders.
“I’m sure that it wasn’t that bad kid” Eugene commented as he took a sip of his drink
Varian had his hands sliding down his face in agony as he said “You’re right it wasn’t that bad”
“mmm” Eugene hummed as he took another sip of his tea but he spat on out his drink as Varian yelled and shook him again by his shoulders “IT WAS HORRIBLE!!”
“VARIAN!” Varian froze as his father yelled his name and gave him a stern look at him “What have I told you about acting out in front of royalty?” Varian released his hands from Eugene’s shoulders and said “Sorry dad and Prince Horance. Guess training was a lot tougher than usual.”
Now a very familiar voice spoke up but the only difference was that the voice sounded very high and confident tone then what he was used to.
“And there’s a very good reason for that my boy! For today’s Coranation mustn’t go down bad which is why I’ve decided that you must be on your first duty as protecting the Prince.”
“What!! Why Me Why Not Lance Not only that he’s your highness closest best friend but very way more capable of protecting your son than I’m!” Varian said fearfully. Quirin then spoke up “Your highness as much as I want to be on your side in this decision I don’t think my son is quite ready for this position.”
That hurt Varian as much as he really really didn’t want to do this knowing that his own father didn’t think he was ready for this was most definitely something that he didn’t want to hear.
“Your highness I believe that Lance is the best choice for the protection of your son and Varian could guard with me and the rest of the brother hood.”
Edmund thought for a moment then he sighed in disappointment and agreement.
“Very well Lance you can—” Lance smiled widely as Edmund was about to say until he frowned again once Varian Spoke “WAIT I CAN DO IT I’ve changed my mind if you still want me to protect your son.
“Now that’s what I’m talking about my boy taking in interest I see” Edmund said Varian then responded with “ Yes very much I actually have something that could help me protect Eugene”
Varian unknowingly said Eugene’s name out loud but he left the room quickly to build his machine. The other brother hood including
Lance got the message quickly from the kings face and left the room but the Queen entered the room as the others left. “What’s happening” Eugene could tell that his father was pissed but for what reason.
“Son, what have I told you about asking people to call you Eugene instead of your given name?”
“I don’t see the problem with it!” Eugene raised his voice at him but Edmund yelled louder “I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THAT NAME!”
“WHY!,FATHER?” Eugene questioned angrily. Edmund just stood there in silence “You know what, forget it cause clearly you don’t have a good enough reason for me not to use that name.”
Eugene left the room and screamed in frustration then he opened his bedroom door and sobbed on his bed but froze when he saw a familiar green chameleon crawling on the bed. “*gaps* Pascal?”

okay so hugo and varian as wolfwalkers. who bites who
OH UR NOT EVEN READY. IVE BEEN SITTING ON THIS AU FOR MONTHS!!!!!!!!! had 2 scour a discord chat for stuff bc i KNOW i’ve talked about this before and i was right hehe. OK LISTEN UP!!!!!!
k so. donella is a wolfwalker and has been since before she could remember. she accidentally turns ulla when they’re teens but it works out fine bc ulla thinks this is awesome so everything seems cool for awhile. and then ulla gets w quirin and she has varian etc etc u know the drill but all the while she keeps the fact that she’s a wolfwalker hidden from quirin. UNTIL. one day she ends up getting killed by a wolf hunter while she’s in her wolf form. donella sees it happen and has to go tell quirin. oof ouch. then she moves faaaaar away to try and move on. varian ends up not being a wolfwalker and quirin is like oh thank god. but lol sorry man that wont last long. and then the events of tts happen as normal varian commits crimes and goes to jail quirin gets amberified etc. then post tts varian is struggling to fit in and move on cuz he’s got no friends his age and most people in town don’t like him bc of his history and he just feels very lonely and like he doesn’t belong anywhere. and one day he’s just kinda hanging out in the woods outside old corona and he stumbles across a wolf. the wolf is hugo ofc. hugo backstory in a moment. so hugo sees him and assumes oh shit human in the woods he’s gotta be a hunter so he instinctively attacks him and bites him on the arm, before quickly realizes wait nvm this person has no weapons and obviously wasnt expecting 2 see me so he jumps off him and runs away. but too late varian has already been bitten. so he starts doing wolfwalkery shit and is freaking out and trying to figure out what’s going on while keeping is a secret from his dad. meanwhile donella finds out what hugo did and basically tells him to get lost bc he’s too irresponsible and put them both at risk by changing someone who was supposed to be uninvolved in this. and for reference hugo got changed into a wolfwalker by donella when he was a kid bc she figured it would make him a more effective spy/conman. now he can kill people as a person or as a wolf haha 2in1 bonus. so anyway hugo goes back and finds varian and meets him while in human form and tries to be like heyyyy hi i have absolutely no ulterior motives for talking to you. btw have you been having any weird dreams lately. and they sort of hate each other for awhile bc hugo blames varian for being the reason donella kicked him to the curb and varian is mad at hugo for biting him. and wait you know what would be funny what if donella wants to kill varian bc she sees him as a liability and what if she says hey hugo u can redeem urself if you kill him for me bc i know he trusts u and then uh oh choice time. meanwhile both varian and hugo and constantly trying to not get murdered by wolf hunters (quirin probably for extra angst) (maybe idk cass or eugene too even more angst) (this is excessively long) (have a good day)

Chapter 1
Secrets revealed.
Varian rubbed his arms nervously. His new creation was almost complete. Save for testing. That was always where it went wrong. This current machine was to play music from a spinning disc. At least he knew the worst-case scenario was it simply didn’t work. Not that it would blow up in his face.
Hopefully.
But to his joy and relief, it worked. The little pin read the disc and sent the music through the horn. He grinned widely.
“Varian?”
He turned at the door to his workshop opening. Standing there was now queen Rapunzel. Her hair had grown out, ending just below her shoulders. She smiled. “There you are…” She trailed off, hearing the music. “Wow…is this your new invention?”
“Uh yeah. It needs a few tweaks but-”
“Are you kidding this is amazing!”
Varian smiled and hugged Rapunzel. She hugged back tight, then pulled away. “So, your nineteenth birthday party is tomorrow. I just needed your go-aheads on a couple of things.”
The two ran down the list. His nineteenth birthday party was going to be huge. Outside, the whole kingdom would be celebrating, but inside the royal ballroom, it would be him, Rapunzel, Eugene, Lance, the former king and queen, his dad and the other members of the order, Red, and Angry, both of whom had real names, but everyone still called them Angry and Red. He wished Cassandra could be there, but she was still gone on some adventure. Had been for years now. The letters never stopped though.
“I cant wait. Oh this is going to be the best party of the year!”
Varian chuckled. “You said that about Eugene’s birthday party a couple months ago.”
“Yes but this will be too!” She grinned. “Ooh why don’t you use your music machine tomorrow? Itll be great to unveil it at the party!”
Varian nodded softly. “Sounds good.”
Rapunzel smiled and nodded. “Ill let you get back to your work but before that I have something for you. Wait here.” She turned and went to the door. Varian waited with a small, confused frown.
A minute later, she came back in with a box, wrapped in blue wrapping paper.
“Rapunzel, shouldn’t you wait until tomorrow?”
“Actually, this is from King Edmund. He said that its traditional in the moon kingdom for boys turning 19 to receive this the day before their birthday. And you were born there so, he thought it was appropriate.”
He blinked, then smiled and unwrapped it. As he did, he saw a compass, beautifully crafted. He opened it up, and inside, indeed the signs for all the directions, there was small painting of him, his father and…his mom. He stared at it.
“How did he…”
“Do you like it?”
“My mother…how did he know what she looked like?”
Rapunzel looked at the compass, then closer at the picture, frowning. “That’s her?”
“Mhm.”
“Shes beautiful…maybe Edmund knew her. He’ll be here tomorrow so you can ask.”
Varian nodded with a small smile. “My dad probably knows too. I can ask him!”
“Yeah. Ill let you get to it. Lots to plan!” She winked and walked out, heading over to Maximus and riding off without another word.
Varian chuckled, then looked at the picture again.
Inside the house, Quirin was sitting drinking some freshly brewed tea as Varian came in. “Hey dad?”
“Hey. I thought you were going to be in your workshop all day?”
“Well, I was going to be until Rapunzel dropped off this.” He handed the compass over to his father, who stared at it for a moment. “Where did she…”
“Said King Edmund dropped it off. Some sort of tradition. Did he know her?”
“Sit.”
Varian nodded and sat in the seat across from him. “As you know I was part of the brotherhood. Your mother, Ulla, was the royal alchemist.”
“Just like me!”
Quran nodded with a small smile. “Her and work partner made so many amazing things before the black rocks came…” He stood, went to the fireplace, then pressed a compartment on the wall. It opened up and from it, he pulled a green book. “This belonged to her…I wasn’t sure when I should give to you but…now seems like a good time.”
Varian took it and his father sat back down. The room was quiet for a moment as Varian looked at the cover. “the seven trials?”
“It was what your mother and her partner were working on.”
Varian opened it. It detailed seven trials corresponding with each surrounding kingdom including their own. Corona: Sun kingdom, Elio: Fire Kingdom, Dion: Water kingdom, Malik: Earth kingdom, Thora: Air kingdom, Estelle, Star kingdom, And The Dark Kingdom: the moon kingdom. All leading up to the eternal library, where all knowledge was kept.
“….why why would you hide this from me?”
Quirin chuckled. “you think that I didn’t know that as soon as I did, you’d go searching?”
Varian paused. The thought had already crosses his mind as soon as he finished reading. He looked down.
“But, you’re a grown man now. You can make your own choices…I just want you to know the dangers.”
“Dangers?”
“Your mother disappeared looking for that place. I don’t know what happened to her. I can’t bear to loose you in the same way.”
Varian looked at his father. He looked so sad.
“I wont go.”
Quirin chuckled. “You will…and I won’t stop you.” He put his hands on his sons shoulders. “it’s time you have your own adventure.”
Varian smiled lightly, then looked at The book. “but…I don’t have to leave right away. I can start here! Get some information, you know… I don’t have to say goodbye just yet.”
Quirin nodded. “Yeah…I’ll help you start searching in the morning. You should get some rest. You have a busy day tomorrow.”
Varian nodded, holding the book and the picture close to his chest as he ran upstairs.
Quirin sighed softly to himself, and looked out at the fire. “Gods…guide my son. Keep him safe where I can’t protect him.”
~
Hugo sat in his tent, half asleep, when Cyrus came in. “Donella wants to see you.”
He groaned, but stood up, heading over to Donellas tent which was lit with laterns, and adorned with maps and books on the outside. He entered the tent.
“Ma’am?”
“Hugo.” She turned. “I have a job for you.” She handed a flyer to him. A birthday party for the royal alchemist. Hugo raised an eyebrow.
“…This is some random guy.”
She rolled her eyes. “This.” She pointed to the picture. “is the son of Ulla. You watch him, make sure he knows nothing about what we’re trying to do. Understood?”
“Yes but…why does it have to be me?” Hugo almost whined.
A side eye from Donella made Hugo wince. “O-Okay. I’ll go….just don’t expect me to be happy about it.”
She huffed and turned away. “If on the off chance he does know about Ulla’s book, find where it is. Take it. And bring it back to me.”
~
When the morning came, Varian was up early. He had to pack for his trip after all, and get started on searching for the totem before his party at midday. He hummed softly as Ruddinger jumped up on his shoulders.
“hey buddy.” He gave the raccoon a little head scratch. “Today’s the day.”
He finished packing and smiled, heading downstairs. His dad was already up, humming as he made breakfast.
“Dad!”
Quirin smiled at him. “Varian! I’m just making some birthday breakfast! You hungry?”
Varian nodded and sat at the table as his dad served his favorites. Bacon, eggs sunny side up, and some French toast. Quirin ruffled his sons hair before continuing cooking.
“I was going to start with Xavier to get some information on the relics.” Varian said, stuffing his mouth.
“That’s a great idea. You could also ask Ariana and Fredrick. They might have some books.”
“That’s a great idea! Thanks dad!”
“after your party, I want you to come here and pack okay?”
“Yeah dad.”
“And don’t forget your camping supplies.”
“I know dad.”
“And your alchemy supplies. You’ll need them.”
“dad.”
“Oh and yo-“
“dad!”
Quirin paused, looking at his son who was smiling. “Heh, just…be safe.”
“I will, dad. Promise.”
The two headed out to the kingdom proper not long after. The whole city was bustling with excitement. Kids kept pointing at him. Truthfully, Varian didn’t love the attention.
“I’m going to find Xavier before we meet everyone.”
Quirin nodded. “I’ll meet you inside.”
It was a quick walk to Xaviers smithery. As always it was full of soot and heat. He could hear Xavier humming a tune to himself.
“Xavier?”
“Well if it isnt the man himself?” Xavier grinned, coming out to see Varian. “your right on time. I just finished your birthday gift.”
“you should save it for the party.” Varian grinned.
“Yes, yes. But you seem to have a question.”
Varian reached into his bag, and pulled out his mothers book. “…Do you know anything about the seven trials?”
Xavier seemed a bit surprised, but nodded. “Yes. How do you know about them?”
“This was my mothers.” He pushed the book to the blacksmith who gently fingered through the pages, then nodded.
“So you intend to complete her work.”
“Yeah. I…I just need to know where to start.”
Xavier nodded. “Alright. The seven trials, created by the keepers of the eternal library and aided by Demanitus…each totem has a scientific puzzle to access them…but be aware, young man. These trials are dangerous and cannot be faced alone.”
“but the eternal library…it’s real?”
“In a sense, yes. It isn’t for the faint of soul. Legends say it will suck you in and keep you forever if it wills it.”
Varian wondered if that’s what happened to his mom.
“Very few have completed the trial. Even less have come back to tell the story. So be careful, Varian. Or you could be facing the end of your life.”
Varian nodded. “thank you, Xavier.”
As Varian walked out he felt as if he was being watched. He looked around, seeing no one looking at him. He frowned, sitting with the information that he could be going in to get himself killed.
Then he thought to himself. If he could find the library, he could find his mom. He could save her. Maybe, just maybe, he could do it. He’d have to be the smartest and most cunning he’d ever been. So he steeled himself.
He'd have to be ready for anything.
He headed into the party, seeing everyone made his heart soar. He came up to Adira. Over the years she’d softened just a bit to Varian. Now she was the only one who was allowed to touch her. But only for very limited amounts of time and always with a warning. She was who he saw first, along with Edmund, and his dad.
“hey guys.” He opened his arms to hug Adira, who accepted with a very quick squeeze.
“hey kid. You dad says you’re going to go on a trip.” She said, smiling.
“Uh, yeah…I’m going to complete my moms work.”
“Any chance you’d let me come with you? It would be good to have a body guard.”
Varian chuckled. “Thanks but…this is something I have to do by myself.”
“A boys first quest.” Edmund said. “That should be cherished.”
“Yeah…Dad said you knew my mom?”
“Yes…why I don’t tell you over dinner when you make it to my kingdom? Do you think you can wait that long?”
Varian thought it over, then nodded. “yeah…yeah I can.”
“good! I can’t wait!”
Varian chuckled, then walked further into the ballroom where everyone else was waiting. Rapunzel smiled and waved. “Varian!” She came forward with a grin, pulling him into a tight hug. “Your dad just told me you’re leaving!”
“Uh, yeah…I um-“
Rapunzel looked sad but excited for him. “Where are you going?”
“All the kingdoms. I’m on a quest, as Edmund put it.”
“really?” Eugene came up from the side, wrapping an arm around his wife. “I didn’t take you as the questing type.”
Varian blushed.
“Oh leave him alone!” Rapunzel chided.
Varian chuckled softly. “I’m planning on leaving tomorrow morning. I just wanted to stay for the party so I could say goodbye.”
Rapunzel sighed softly, then pulled Varian into an embrace. “Promise you’ll come home, Varian?”
He returned the hug. “…I promise.”
The party went off without a hitch. He ate his favorite cake, got some amazing presents which he could take on the road with him, and he said goodbye to everyone.
Late that night, Quirin and him reached the entrance to their home.
“Before you leave tomorrow…I want you to have Prometheus. He’ll be a good traveling companion for you on the road.”
Prometheus was their donkey. One who they’ve had since he could remember.
“…Don’t you need him?”
“Don’t worry about me. You’ll be better off with him. And I know you’ll take good care of him.”
Varian hugged his father again, tightly. “Thanks dad”
The morning came early and Varian ran and grabbed everything, rushing out. Only to find his dad beat him to it.
In the light of the rising sun, he saw his dad hitching up a caravan to Prometheus.
“Woah…” Varian mumbled.
Quirin looked to him and smiled. “I thought this would be useful.”
“wow dad! Thanks! This is amazing!”
He ran and hugged his dad. He smiled at his son. “You look just like her….when you find her…you let her know just how proud I am of you.”
Tears welled up in both their eyes and after a long, tearful goodbye, Varian set off in the light of the morning sun.
First stop, Elio.

Brotherhood HC ft. Dental
Ok so I work in the dental field and recently have been thinking about what kind of dental patients the Brotherhood (and other TTS chars) would be. So here are my thoughts/ramblings on it.
Brotherhood Headcanons- Dental Patients
Hector: he’s the patient that only comes in every year or two and is doing just fine. His teeth are always in excellent shape and he always reminds the dentist of that fact. He rarely needs treatment done and is always interested in whitening treatments. He has a preference for which dentist and hygienist he see’s for his treatment and cleanings. Kind of abrasive when you first meet him, but once you get to know him you find out he’s got a great sense of humor and loves to talk about his animals.
Adira: she’s the patient that comes in every six months and only occasionally misses her cleanings. Keeps fairly good care of her teeth, but gets into trouble with the amount of sweets and treats she eats. Always getting whitening treatments, even when she has other treatment that should be prioritized. She is very confident in herself, but is very kind and easy to talk to. She likes to have the ‘laughing gas’ whenever she’s at the dentist to help her discomfort of being touched on her face so much. Loves to brag about her naturally straight teeth and the fact that she never needed braces.
Quirin: getting him into the dentist is like pulling teeth. As a farmer, Quirin only goes if there is a noticeable problem. There is just too much to do and his teeth feel fine. Varian finally got him to go to the dentist regularly after convincing his dad to come with him to his own cleanings. Once he got to know the people that worked there, he felt a lot better about getting worked on. He likes to have ‘laughing gas’ or something stronger to help him when getting treatment done. Once you get past his nerves, Quirin is a sweetheart who loves to talk about his son and his gardening endeavors.
Edmund: when he first came in, he needed a lot of work done. Over the course of his long treatment plan he became friends with everyone in the office. Although he is a little strange at times, it's always a good day when he comes in. He never misses his six month cleanings and loves to greet everyone in the office when he arrives. He loves talking about his grandchildren and about the ravens he befriended in the woods near his home.

Interview With The Preacher’s Son
Since the passing of Reverend Ulla Ritter, Old Corona truly has never recovered. Despite her husband Quirin taking her place in the church, no one can replace the wise and loving woman we loved so dearly. And no one in this town loved her more than her own son, Varian. To commemorate the fifth anniversary of Rev. Ulla’s passing, we sat down with Varian after his shift at Monty’s Diner to talk about family, friends, and faith, and other of life’s mysteries!
Pete Hayes: Hi Varian!
Varian Ritter: hey, nice to meet you
Pete Hayes: nice to meet me? We’ve met before
Varian Ritter: oh yeah, right
Pete Hayes: so how are you doing lately? How’s summer been treating you?
Varian Ritter: I’ve been fine. I like summer, as much as I love school, it’s nice to have a break from all the stress. Learning on your own terms is more fun, anyway.
Pete Hayes: and you’ve always been quite the brainiac huh? You definitely took after your mother on that, she was just as much a beloved scientist as she was a beloved preacher.
Varian Ritter: oh yeah, I definitely have her to thank for my love of science. She taught me alot. But I’ve got my dad yaknow, he always read me those Flynn Rider books growing up, and now I love to read.
Pete Hayes: oh for sure, your father is a smart man. And how is he doing?
Varian Ritter: he’s doing fine. Planting crops for the harvest yaknow. He likes to keep busy.
Pete Hayes: and I’m sure you help him out a lot
Varian Ritter: of course!
Pete Hayes: moving on, can you tell us a little bit about growing up here in Old Corona? What was it like for you?
Varian Ritter: well I’d imagine growing up here was the same as everyone else, honestly. I don’t feel very special [varian laughs] a lot of playing outside, especially in the creek. A lot of church. A lot of reading. The tv’s here aren’t great [Varian laughs again.]
Pete Hayes: oh man, and the cook outs! Your mother sure was good at bringing the whole town together. I miss those days.
Varian Ritter: yeah
Pete Hayes: so what’re you up to nowadays?
Varian Ritter: oh you know, work. Or helping at church most of the time. Sometimes I clean, sometimes I’m in the choir, sometimes I help my dad put together a sermon, he struggles sometimes yaknow? That or I’m in the basement studying.
Pete Hayes: oh man, you really don’t have any clubs you’re a part of? Do you visit friends? You seem so busy!
Varian Ritter: [Varian laughs] I mean I’m not the most social guy, I’m pretty introverted. I like it this way.
Pete Hayes: aren’t you friends with Miss Gothel’s daughter, Rapunzel? Do you still keep in contact with her and her husband after they moved away? Wasn’t her husband your cousin?
Varian Ritter: I don’t really want to talk about them.
Pete Hayes: I’m sorry about that. Tell them we say hi next time you see them, we miss her beautiful voice in the church!
Varian Ritter: yeah okay
Pete Hayes: What about your love life? Do you have a special someone in your life? Or are you eyeing anyone?
Varian Ritter: not really. I’ve never dated before.
Pete Hayes: That’s a shame! I wanted to touch upon your late mother, if that’s alright with you. We all loved her and knew her well. But of course, you knew her better than we did. And since your father declined the interview, we were hoping you could give us a glimpse of what Miss Ulla was like at home. Was she as wise and loving as she was in the church? Because for us she truly was a gift from God, I can’t imagine how blessed you and your father were at home.
Varian Ritter: oh yeah, she was definitely the same person she was at church at home. She was a very loving mother. She taught me everything I know. She wasn’t the most active, she had a calling, so she spent a lot of time either at church preparing a sermon, in her room reading the Bible, or in her lab working. But even if I didn’t see her a lot, she would always come into my room at night and pray with me. I miss her.
Pete Hayes: we all know your father loved your mother deeply. Do you think her death brought you two closer together?
Varian Ritter: I don’t know if I can say it brought us together but we can relate to eachother a little more. But you know my dad, he’s pretty quiet [varian laughs]
Pete Hayes: oh yeah! Well, I’m sure you’ve got to get back to your father, I bet he’s worried about you being late!
Varian Ritter: [varian laughs] yeah sure
Pete Hayes: before I let you go, do you think you could impart some of your mommas wisdom onto us? Do you have any wise words to share?
Varian Ritter: um well, I guess I should say to remember to tell your loved ones you love them. You never know what’s going to happen next. Tomorrow isn’t promised, yaknow? And uh, just hold your friends and family close, don’t- don’t leave them.
Pete Hayes: you sure do get your wisdom from your mother, I’m tearing up just listening to you talk!
Varian Ritter: haha yeah.
Pete Hayes: well Varian, thank you for sitting down and talking to me! It’s been a lovely time. And I look forward to hearing you sing on Sunday!
Varian Ritter: of course, and thank you.
NOTE: since this interview was conducted, we have been informed that Varian Ritter has been reported missing and last seen in Vardaros.
