“Mm-hmm,” Quinn said. “Listen, Nat—” They beckoned him back out into the hall so as not to disturb the sleeping Alex. “I’m going to take you shopping this week for some new formal clothes. We can get something tailored for you, whatever style you like.”

Nat stared at them blankly, apparently not realising the appropriate reaction to this was glee. “Oh,” he said. “Uh… thanks?”

Quinn tried not to let this dampen their mood. Nat in a suit, Nat with a little bow tie, Nat with his hair braided with flowers... They’d get him excited about this if it killed them. They would find something that’d make him feel good, make him feel handsome. They would get him to crack a smile.

“Let me know when you’re free,” Quinn urged. “I’ll put it in my calendar.”

Nat nodded mildly.
