thoughts on composition under the cut bc im Super Proud of this one

starting with felix, the Soldier, carrying the sword of moralta, raised to swing. he's seen from the back because I wanted to put emphasis on him being the vanguard, the Shield. also because this angle emphasizes his eyelashes.

sylvain, the Poet, is framed centered on his mouth and hands as he speaks. he wears no armor, only a quilted coat, leather gloves, and a cloak — pinned with the crest of gautier, struck through. the pin crossing through the crest was very deliberate.

and dimitri, the King, is kneeling. his head is bent to obscure his expression, hands raised to cover his mouth. the crown is floating because I wanted to emphasize the divinity of the title "savior king." I also made his scar as ugly as possible for the "thorn" in the lyrics.

each of their crests is visible in their piece as well!! I replaced the crest of chevalier visible on the sword of moralta with the crest of fraldarius, sylvain's cloak pin is the crest of gautier, and the blaiddyd crest is etched on the crown!

all in all this was a very experimental piece for me!!! I usually rely on eyes and eyebrows to convey emotion, and with both dimitri and felix's mouths covered it was a very fun challenge to get the vibes I was going for :3c

Why is Princess Daisy named Princess Daisy?

My headcanon was always that three main princess in the Mario games are patterned after the three power-ups in the original Super Mario Bros., where Peach is the mushroom, Daisy is the flower and Rosalina is the most powerful of al of them, the star. And while that is neat, I think there's a better reason.

Daisy’s homeland, Sarsasaland, gets its name from the Japanese sarasa (更紗), meaning “calico, chintz or printed fabric.” The primary dictionary definition of calico is a heavier cotton cloth, but the word has also come to mean a certain sort of printed fabric, otherwise known as chintz, and the patterns on it were often (but not always) of flowers.

That alone could account for Daisy’s name, but I think there’s a deeper read here. Because different calico fabrics laid next to each other can make for an eye-catching, contrasting design, it’s frequently a material used for patchwork quilts. I think Sarasaland itself can be seen as a sort of patchwork quilt setting, because it’s divided into four areas with distinctly different themes that don’t exactly go together but overall give you the sense of taking a tour through an eclectic land. In order:

There’s Birabuto Kingdom (ピラプト王国, or Piraputo Ōkoku), which looks like ancient Egypt and is ruled by a sphinx boss, King Totomesu. Its name probably comes from a combination of the first two syllables of ピラミッド, piramiddo or “pyramid,” and the last two of エジプト, Ejiputo or “Egypt.”

There’s the oceanside Muda Kingdom (ミューダ王国 or Myūda Ōkoku), which is full of UFOs and robots and is presumably a reference to Bermuda and especially the sci-fi paranormal goings on in the Bermuda triangle. Its boss is the giant dragon Draganzamasu.

There’s Easton Kingdom (イーストン王国 or Īsuton Ōkoku), which looks like Easter Island and is resulted by the stone head boss Hiyohoi.

And finally there’s the ancient China-themed Chai Kingdom (チャイ王国 or Chai Ōkoku), hopping zombies and all, which despite obvious tea associations probably comes from チャイナ (Chaina, “China”). Its boss is a cloud that shoots chickens at you. It’s super weird.

I’m probably reading too much into all this, but I like how the fabric being referred to in the name of Super Mario Land’s setting can explain both why Daisy became the flower princess and why this place is composed of several distinct, disparate places situated side by side.

**Jason Voorhees:**

- Jason’s not super into movies (kinda hard to see through that mask), but he’s there for the vibes. He’s sitting on the couch, taking up like, half of it because he’s HUGE. 🛋️

- He brought his mom’s old quilt, and you’re both wrapped up in it. He lets you pick the movie because he’s a total softie for you. 🥰

- When the movie gets too intense, he’ll pull you closer, like a silent promise that nothing’s gonna hurt you. And if you’re cold? Don’t worry, Jason’s like a living furnace, so you’re toasty warm. 🔥

**Michael Myers:**

- Michael’s sitting in the darkest corner of the room, acting all mysterious. But secretly, he’s been eyeing the TV the whole time, low-key interested in what’s going on. 😏

- He’s the type to hand you a blanket silently, but it’s like, a super soft and fluffy one he secretly picked out just for you. 🥺

- During the movie, you lean against him, and he lets you, even though he’s all stiff and awkward. But by the end, he’s relaxed a bit, and you’re practically lying on his chest while he absentmindedly plays with your hair. 🖤

**Bo Sinclair:**

- Bo’s not into all the slumber party fluff, but he’s here because you wanted him to be. He acts like he’s too cool for it, but deep down, you know he likes being close to you. 😏

- He picks a gritty, action-packed movie—something loud with lots of explosions. He’s not here for the romance or the scares; he’s here to see stuff blow up. 💥

- Bo’s not super affectionate, but he shows he cares in his own way. He’ll pull you against him, his arm heavy around your shoulders, keeping you close like it’s no big deal. When the movie gets intense, he’ll smirk and make a snarky comment, but he’s also subtly checking to see if you’re okay.

- If you start to fall asleep, he’ll roll his eyes and grumble about how you can’t keep up, but he’ll still adjust so you’re comfortable, letting you lean on him. Even if he pretends he’s annoyed, he’s secretly enjoying having you close. 😤💤

**Lester Sinclair:**

- Lester’s the most excited about the slumber party. He’s got his PJs on, brings some funny movies, and is ready to have a good time. 😆

- He’s super affectionate, constantly checking if you need anything—more snacks, a drink, another blanket, you name it. 🍕🥤

- Lester’s the type to playfully throw popcorn at you during the movie, and he’ll laugh every time. When you finally settle down, he’ll cuddle up to you, nuzzling your neck like a big puppy. 🐾

**Vincent Sinclair:**

- Vincent is super shy about the whole slumber party thing, but he’s there because he can’t say no to you. 🥹

- He’s brought his sketchbook and sits next to you, sketching while the movie plays. Every now and then, he’ll glance at the screen, getting into the movie more than he expected. 🎥

- Vincent’s touch is gentle. He’ll hold your hand under the blanket, his thumb softly tracing patterns on your skin. If you fall asleep, he’ll quietly move to make sure you’re comfortable, and might even stay up just to watch over you. 😴

By the end of the night, you’re surrounded by your fave slashers, all cuddled up in a cozy pile of blankets, pillows, and snacks.
