Eclipse - Two Sentence Story
As the Solar Eclipse cast its shadow over Little Egypt, the Shawnee Forest whispered secrets of an ancient curse awakening. The air grew cold, and the only sound was the heartbeat of the brave souls who dared to witness the sun’s dark coronation. #TwoSentences #QuickLit Sometimes we just want to be brief with our stories. This is an experimental writing prompt. Photo Credit to Vincenzo…

hello! 🍏 21+ nb (they/them) looking for mxf 1x1s with other 21+ in the realm of musician aus, preferably in the 60s/70s/90s!
i write exclusively on discord, love ooc chatting, headcanonon sharing, making playlists, boards and so, so much more - hoping to find writing partners who are the same!
at the moment, i’ve been specifically vibing with the idea of the m muse (who i’ll be portraying) being in the most famous band of that time and the f muse (yours) could possibly either be a popstar, the muse, or anything else you think would work! i’m specifically looking for the two to come from two very different worlds and we can take the chaos from there
in terms of writing, i prefer (would be great if you are the same!)
- quicklit (1-2 paras) to semi lit (3-6), novellas (1,5k words and more). 3-4 replies a week, max
- open to doing text threads and one liners & headcanoning all day everyday!
- using realistic fcs
- 🕊️ themes, the more toxic the relationship is, the better
- please contribute to plotting and be enthusiastic, as i will do the same! i have plenty of ideas ready but would love to bounce ideas back and forth
Leave a like, and anon will get back you!

The Cliffs Notes paradox
The Cliffs Notes paradox https://seths.blog/2023/04/the-cliffs-notes-paradox/ For a decade, Cliffs Notes were the bestselling section of the bookstore. They were a simple way for any high school student to get insight, examples and answers about the books they were assigned and read (or didn’t read). When Cliffs published a list of their thirty bestselling titles, I saw an opportunity and created a book that was the cliffs notes of the Cliffs Notes. Quicklit didn’t sell very well, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Used as intended, Cliffs Notes and Quicklit were a gold mine of insight. They opened the door for real understanding, and often got to the heart of the literature better than an overworked high school teacher might be able to. The paradox? More availability of notes didn’t lead to more learning. It’s not clear to me that widespread availability of these summaries and guides actually led to much in the way of understanding. And so here comes ChatGPT and its cousins. Here’s ChatPDF, a miracle that instantly reads a PDF, summarizes it and gives us the chance to ask it questions. The results I’ve seen are extraordinary. Here’s a session about a 48-page summary of my new book. Except… It doesn’t work until we choose to understand. Part of the magic of an actual book is that the reader ends up understanding. It seeps in, the aha’s are found, not highlighted. TLDR is internet-speak for “Too long, didn’t read.” It’s one of the consequences of too much to choose from, combined with a lazy quest for convenience. It’s a checklist mindset. And all we get after we finish a checklist is a bunch of checked boxes, not real understanding. If you were on a long train ride with the smartest person in the world, what would you ask her? And how long before you went back to scrolling on your phone? It doesn’t matter how much we summarize, at some point, effort is required. More summaries won’t automatically lead to more understanding.

for the gear question: tyson barrie?
hi anon! thanks for the ask! this one will actually probably be pretty funny, considered until now, i didn't really know much about tyson barrie other than his name! basically, i'm flying very blind here, but i hope you enjoy my writeup on his gear!
there will be a summary and some highlight clips at the end of this post :) thank you again for your ask, anon! i hope you enjoy this writeup on his gear!
---
So, to start off, let's get Tyson Barrie's current gear specs:
Helmet: Bauer, 4500
Glove: CCM, Quicklite
Stick: CCM, Ribcor Trigger 5 Pro
Skates: Bauer, Vapor 2X Pro
My very first impression of Barrie with looking at this ensemble of gear is that if he isn't a goon, he definitely comes off as one. Barrie also seems like he's got a bit more of an "old school" vibe to his game. On the other hand, he seems like a person who's bold and dynamic both on and off the ice, but doesn't have a need for anything too fancy. The simpler gear gets the job done just fine.
This setup is kind of odd to me; it's logical, but it's definitely odd. I say all this because not a ton of NHL guys will mix brands like Barrie has, they're often loyal to one brand or at least sponsored by one of them. It's not often that you see players in the NHL with a half and half split like this. Most of his stuff is either not advanced at all, or it was when it first released.
His helmet choice is one of the major reasons I think he's possibly a goon (or comes off as one at least) is because it's not a high quality helmet at all. It retails at about 70$ (this is very, very cheap for hockey helmets), and is far from the most protective or most advanced helmet any brand offers on the market. It doesn't have the technology of most modern helmets. It's very basic and is better than not wearing a helmet, but not by a lot. Worth noting is that the 4500 helmet has a very classic look by design (this also honestly ties into why I think he's probably got a more "old school" style to his game):
This looks kinda familiar, right? Probably because most helmets used to look pretty similar:
His gloves are a bit older, now, too, having released in 2016; most pieces of gear have a "life cycle" of a few years. The Quicklite has been discontinued, probably for about 3 or 4 years now given it appears to have come out in around 2016. "Quicklite" is no longer a family name used by CCM, and appears to have become the Jetspeed line by now. Jetspeed is a pretty versatile line of products as far as their protective equipment and their sticks go. This glove isn't really specialized towards any one playing style, but was a pretty lightweight and advanced glove for its time. They also tend to have a more tapered and "close to the hand" fit, which a lot of players really like.
The skates and the stick, despite being different brands, tells me pretty much the same thing: Barrie likes to be quick and agile. He likes to have options on the ice. Given he's a defenseman, and a very small one at that (5'11" and 197lbs), this makes sense. He mostly likes getting those quick snapshots and quick wrist shots off when he's on the ice. Vapor and Ribcor are built for pretty much the same purpose, with just a few differences in the details. He may not be a big guy, physically, but it looks like his presence on the ice is huge and that he's able to get where he needs to be in no time at all. He looks like another one of those defensemen that can play both sides of the game pretty well and seems to actually contribute offensively quite a bit!
The TL:DR on Tyson Barrie; He seems to have a small dash of chaos to his personality, but overall seems like he'd be great to hang out with. He seems somewhat unpredictable, but in the best way possible. He's probably the guy who's just there to have a good time, even if he's doing something super mundane. He doesn't need anything super extravagant to make him happy, and he likes to stick with what he's got/what's familiar vs. getting the latest and greatest as soon as it comes out. If he's not a goon, he'll at least stand up for people if he needs to, because that's just how it should be.
Here's a couple fun videos I found where y'all can see him in action:
Video 1 (with Colorado)
Video 2 (a really neat goal with Edmonton!)
got someone you want me to talk about? send me their name here!

Sarnia, ON – The Sarnia Sting are pleased to release a new look heading into the 2019-2020 Ontario Hockey League campaign, a change that involves the transition to the CCM Quicklite jersey format while creating a clean, modern and matching look for the team’s home and away outfit.
As the club makes this jersey transition it is seen as an opportunity to give the uniforms a clean, modern updated look while restoring the identity of the brand, matching the home and away uniform logos. The change will see the teams’ black uniforms move back to the primary “angry bee” while the white uniforms get a modern update.
Both of the new jerseys are highlighted by bold, vibrant gold numbering and complimented with updated socks, pants, gloves & shoulder patch design. The Sting’s black jersey and yellow (third) uniform will move to the new CCM Quicklite format this season while the white jersey will remain the CCM Edge format before completing the full transition to Quicklite in the 2020-21 season.

Burning Sandalwood
I have talked before of how yogis and monks from before the Buddha’s time have burned sandalwood powder as an aid to mindful meditation.
Monk with sandalwood burner and mindfulness bell.
Sandalwood powder (yellow sandalwood not red) is an aromatic resin filled wood which when burned aids in concentration. It can be purchased at head shops, religious supply shops or online. The price varies depending on supply and demand and the quantity purchased. I use a lot of it (burning it when I write) and a $49.00 one pound bag lasts me at least six months. If you are only using it for meditation a much smaller quantity will be necessary.
To burn it you need a brass burner or a ceramic bowl with some sand for insulation. You light a tab of charcoal then when it is glowing sprinkle a small amount of powder on the coal. Now, the most common type of coal is the “hookah quicklite” such as Three Kings. These are purchased at smoke shops or in my neighborhood liquor stores. You can buy rolls of 10 for a couple of bucks or less.
These charcoal disks are powdered charcoal impregnated with salt peter (the stuff in sparklers) and then loosely compacted. They are easy to light with a lighter and burn for about sixty minutes. They are relatively expensive if you burn a lot of charcoal and have a slight odor when first lit.
A better charcoal is the Japanese style bricks. They are much denser than self light hookah coals and made just for incense. The are harder to light and must be lit using a stove or a small alcohol lamp ($12.99 online) which burns denatured alcohol (home depot or paint stores $5.00 qt) before placed on the sand; however, they burn cleaner, hotter, longer and with no scent. Hotter burn means no expensive powder left unburned in the bottom of the burner. They are at $5.99 per hundred about one third the price of quick lite and last up to twice as long depending on the quality of the quicklite.
