#queer slur reclamation just encourages seperatism

please dont act like people dont get hatecrimed while called queers even nowadays.. i understand the liberation in reclamation, but it truly is the most inconsiderate shit to act like people arent victimized and traumatized by that word and to claim that every single person who has that trauma and talks about it is "repeating terf rhetoric" is... well. that both waters down what terf rhetoric is AND goes to deny the lived experiences of other lgbt+ people lol. in general i find the queer slur discourse stupid and it could be fixed with a little consideration but sure does feel shitty when people just outright claim that not liking the word makes you aligned with violent transmisogynists<3

Im not acting like people arent being hatecrimed by being called a queer, and people are more than valid to feel uncomfortable with the word, especially if its been used against them. But a large part of the movement against using queer as a term is by TERFS, and the queer community before that was already using the word for decades while still recognizing that it, like other lgbtq+ language, can be used derogatorily. Just like how ‘gay’, ‘homosexual’, ‘transsexual’ and ‘lesbian’ have been used derogatorily for decades, but you dont see people telling queers to stop using those words. Both ideas, that queer shouldnt be seen as a slur because it has historically been used by the community, and that its okay to dislike the word because of its usage in the derogatory sense, can co-exist. You shouldnt disallow people from using a word that personally helps describe themselves just because it has been used derogatorily and cuz you may have a rocky relationship with it, and no one should invalidate your discomfort with a word that has been used again you. Again, both ideas can co-exist.
