Sorry I’ve been absent, some unfortunate things have been going on irl. But to make up for my lack of posting, here’s some pictures of my celebrity crushes I hope my fellow lesbians and sapphics will enjoy/appreciate:
Chappell Roan
Towa Bird
Renee Rapp (Yes I know having a crush on both Towa and Renee is ironic now shush)
Kehlani
Billie Eilish
Okay, I’ve reached the image limit. And I’m realizing I have a thing for musicians. I mean I have more celebrity crushes but damn my top ones are all musicians 😭

Happy Halloween! I'm getting back into tumblr and also looking to get a solid start to my book club.
My name is Gillian, I go by Gilly mostly. I'm agenderfluid and use she/they pronouns. I am 26, a preschool teacher and going to school for social work. I am a huge reader and have gotten much more active in the past 2 years despite going back to school. I live with the love of my life who is a musician and blue collar worker. We spend a lot of time at home, at the library and going to see local artists. I have always been a horror lover and am trying to get more involved in various communities in the coming months.
Love y'all. Hope to talk soon 💖

a list of wlw musicians you may not have heard of
Christie Lenée (she/her) - Phenomenal fingerstyle guitarist and singer-songwriter. I got to see her in concert back in summer of 2018 and I bought her album Stay; enjoy this music by an insanely skilled member of our community. Here’s her official website and YouTube channel.
Her sound in her own words: “Acoustic roots transcending through soulfully inspiring lyrics. Somewhere between Dave Matthews, Ani Difranco, and Michael Hedges: Innovative Acoustic Guitar, Foot Stomping, and Upfliting Feel-Good Songs.”
k.d. lang (she/they) - You have seen 1990s-era photos of this Canadian musician floating around wlw tumblr I am sure, astride her motorcycle. Named the recipient of the 2018 Americana Trailblazer Award by The Americana Music Association®, they came out as a lesbian in June 1992 (six years before Ellen Degeneres, btw) and hot on the tail of the song “Constant Craving,” which is probably her best known song of sapphic longing, on an album capturing unrequited love for a married woman called Ingénue. Their most recent release Makeover is an album of stylistic remixes of her hits (seriously, listen to original and remixed versions and I doubt you will regret it), and the cover image is a portrait photo of them from 1995 in a very femme style (perhaps a figurative remix of her consistently butch style she is so known for).
Cássia Eller (she/her) - the first time I heard her voice was on a playlist of brazilian rock jams by a fellow tumblr user, and I remember desperately hoping the singer was a woman but doubting since the vocals were so deep. Luckily for us, Cássia Eller, born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is! She released 5 studio albums during her lifetime to bless our ears and was even recognized for her accomplishments and popularity in Rolling Stones Brasil. She was openly bisexual and raised a son with her partner Maria; the two were together from 1987 until Cássia’s death in 2001, caused by a heart attack due to a cardiac malformation. She was only 39 when she died, which makes me so incredibly sad, but I’m so glad she was here. My personal favorite song of hers, since it was the first I ever heard, is Palavras Ao Vento.
Please reblog and add on more wlw musicians from underrepresented genres! This was just a start, and I’ll hopefully continue to add to this myself as I keep listening to music. Wishing everyone a safe and healthy July!

I'll Be Missing You
It doesn’t matter how many times Weston Miller and his band go on tour, it doesn’t matter how many times Weston and his partner, Jazz say their goodbyes, for both Jazz and Wes, it never gets any easier. In the Walmart parking lot, Jazz and Weston say their goodbyes yet again as Wes and his band prepare to embark on a cross country musical tour. While Jazz is sad to see him go, she knows there’s music to be played, money to be made, and a dream that needs be brought to life.

no because how lucky am i to be alive at the same time as chappell roan and casey mcquiston. a very popular musican and author both being so unabashedly queer, shamelessly horny, and undeniably happy. like no, you don't have to like sex to be queer, but goddamn is having queer sex a whole lot of fun, and no, we will not be quiet about it

a short list of historical figures who were queer: because I need people to understand that queer people have always been here.
with sources, because I am, after all, a historian.
Most of these figures are musicans, it is because I am studying to be a historical musicologist (basically a music historian).
Leonard Berenstein– (1918-1990) Composer, conductor, musician. Known for his musical West Side Story. Most likely a gay man, perhaps bisexual. While there are plenty of letters and first hand confirmations that exist, this Guardian article conveys the information well enough.
Pytor Illich Tchaikovsky– (1840-1892) Russian composer, best known for his ballets: Swan Lake, and the Nutcracker, as well as his 1812 Overture, which features canon fire (and has become a meme on Tumblr). A gay man, as confirmed by multiple historians that have dedicated their life to his research, and by me, who spent a few weeks translating letters that talk about his love for men and his fear of what that would do to his life. This article talks about John Wiley (a historian) had to say about it.
Benjamin Britten– (1913-1976) Known for his vocal compositions, if you are an english classically trained vocalist you know Britten's compositions. Known especially for his War Requiem and his opera Peter Grimes. He and fellow musician Peter Pears had a long lived relationship. This article speaks about it more.
Ethel Smyth– (1857-1944) A lifelong disrupter, demanded (rightly so) for people to listen to her music in a time where women were not given the space to compose. A lesbian who fought for the right for women to perform and be a part of orchestras and conductor her own works when women conducters were few and far between. This article, written by a woman, speaks on her life well.
Francis Poulenc– (1899-1963) A Parisian man with a marked love of mostly men, but did father one daughter and dedicated a few compositions to her mother. This article speaks well on his love.
Alan Turing– (1912-1954) A gay icon of mine, Turing was a British Mathmetician and codebreaker who you have to thank for your phone and for the earlier end of the second World War. This article speaks about his life, as well as the film Imitation Game (2014) discusses it to some extent.
Freddie Mercury–(1946-1991) The beloved lead singer of the band Queen was a notourious queer icon, who had many love affairs with men but did say that he loved one woman when he was younger, for this reason, I will not say whether he was bisexual or gay. But a queer icon nonetheless. This article discusses the topic.
David Bowie– (1947-2016) A performer I have always loved and dearly miss, who is known for his bisexuality and fantastic outfits. This Billboard article discusses his sexuality. But it is important to note, that he came out as gay first, and then bisexual, which does not mean he was changing his mind or wanting to conform, but instead was becoming more comfortable with his own sexuality as he aged, something that should be a more generally accepted thing.
Leonardo da Vinci– (1452-1519) While there are guesses about this mans sexuality, it is generally believed and agreed upon that he was at least queer. While more research must be done, this article speaks on the subject well enough.
There are plenty more that I could talk about and that I want to talk about but that would take so long.
The most important thing: Queer people have always been here, and they are amazing and beautiful and deserved so much better than what history gave them.
Please reply with more (and sources) if you have them.
#queer history#queer#historians will say they were close friends#history#i cried while working on this#because this means so much to me

in case it wasn't already obvious, I'm in the last option camp.
I didn't have any opinion on her at all until she became so inescapable that her fans have steadily made me roll my eyes everytime I hear her music now
I wish fans used more queer musicians in their tiktok edits of queer content. there's lots of excellent queer music out there, and it gets overshadowed by a straight woman
I'm sure she's nice tho. probably. we dont know her. no hate on her as a person, just exhausted of her
I'm genuinely curious. I've seen all these opinions around a dozen times each
also I'm nosey and a slut for data
#im not good at finding new music so i like using tiktok for that#but i just wish queer musicans got more attention in queer circles :/#i wish i could like taylor swift#but theres just no break from her

their story, esp the first part of the post before same sex marriage was legalized in the usa, reminds me of this post by Filipino musican Nica del Rosario, a queer singer who was introducing her newest song
[Image ID: First picture is a screenshot of Twitter user Nica del Rosario with two screenshot images of a message written on a note app.
Second and third pictures are the message itself which reads:
The night before our flight back home to Manila after getting married in Sydney, we had to fill out an online tracing form called One Health Pass (PSA: fill this out in advance if you're traveling home so you don't get stuck in the long line of people at the airport).
As I was going through mine, I stopped at one question: marital status. It stared right back at me, almost mockingly, like it knew that despite our magical, joyful wedding just a couple of days before, I had to begrudgingly mark myself as "single".
It was a small, simple action, but it crushed my heart like a stone. It represented the reality that was waiting for us back in Manila: that the vows we exchanged in Sydney will not be honored in the place we call home. The joy of getting to legally commit ourselves to spending the rest of our lives together is mixed with the bitterness that according to the laws where we reside, that doesn't mean anything.
But to us, it means everything. Remembering that moment in our hotel room, filling out that form, spurred me to write this song. Because despite that small yet sad moment, there's comfort in the fact that we're married in Australia, in the US, in Canada, and several other countries. There's comfort in the fact that we share a love that some people spend lifetimes trying to look for. There's comfort in the life and the family that we built together.
I don't know when our laws here will change; maybe we'll be like those old lady couples in the US rushing to the courthouses on the day that same sex marriage was legalized in all 50 states. Maybe it will come in 10 years. Maybe we won't live to see it. But we have today, and our love and our family. And for now, that is enough.
"*Balang Araw" is for every person in our community who continue to hope and fight for what we stand for: to be treated as human beings, to be given the same rights as everyone else.
We'll also get our "someday", but for now, let's first love one another.
everytime I remember that lesbian couple that have a marble statue of the two of them embracing and sleeping on a bed together over where their graves will be because the artists didn’t believe they would be able to be married before they died, so what they couldn’t have in life they could have in death, I fucking breakdown
#sorry if the translation isn't accurate i'm bad at translating#i just know what it means in my head#but also#i hope this lil addition reminds ppl young and old that there's still more to fight for#across countries and continents and oceans#there are people in our community who continue to fight for rights that you might sometimes take for granted#we don't even have a fucking SOGIE equality bill#i also hope it reminds ppl not to take anything for granted#people are being jailed red tagged and killed for the rights that your country may have#rights that were almost certainly legalized in your country because there were people in your country's history that were jailed#red tagged and killed#when i read that first post#when i read 'the artists didn’t believe they would be able to be married before they died'#when i STILL read that#i feel my chest tighten bc i know that feeling#every queer person in this country and in too many other countries know this feeling#it's not something in the past#hell the past isn't even all that long ago#but this pain and collective trauma and grieving and fighting is continuous#when my queer friends and i talk of relationships and marriage#there isn't a single one of us that believes we'll be able to see same sex marriage legalized in our lifetimes#but by god we'll continue to fight so that future generations will never have to feel this weight in their soul#maybe not in our day yes#but one day it WILL happen just like it did for patricia cronin and deborah kass

My first husband (of 42 years) Spider passed away eight years ago this month and over those eight years, I and friends have spread some of his ashes in many beautiful places here in Arizona and California, even in Hawaii. Yesterday Mark and Dhara and I hiked Honeybee Canyon which was one of Spider’s favorite places in all of Arizona, a mile and a half hike through a sandy canyon wash surrounded on both sides by magnificent rock formations and filled with giant saguaros, chollas in full bloom, green trees, colorful wildflowers, wildlife and butterflies, and at the end of the hike, there is a huge boulder carved with ancient petroglyphs. Again, this was one of Spider’s favorite places, and so this is where I spread the very last of his ashes (mixed with some of our little dog Frappy’s ashes who left us recently). I didn’t think it would get to me, but as I scattered the ashes near the huge petroglyph boulder, I could see Spider sitting atop of it, and I broke down and wept and then Mark and Dhara hugged me and I felt myself letting go one last time. Goodbye my beautiful and loving Spider and my sweet little Frappy. You will both always be in my heart. ❤️
Last pic is of Spider.

Yesterday I got to see my favorite artist, dorian electra, in a grungy, rundown theatre with a litter box in the bathroom. The openers (atlgrandma & frost children) were amazing and the whole vibe was queer excellence in the most goblin core way. Dorian was beyond anything I could imagine - beautiful, hypnotic, hot as hell, crazy, energetic, just everything everything everything!
I danced, I screamed, all the musicans sang the last song together, dorian brought it EVERY moment. It was a religious experience. The crowd was so inviting, the venue was selling merch that said "i heart sodomy" - I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I felt so loved and seen - it reminded me of when I toured the Tom of Findland house, just...I have no words.
I can't believe I got to see dorian live. And I could see them from where I was standing!!!!!!!! I'm beyond happy and still have the jitters.
:'o)
