Quake's skin patches are meant to be up to interpretation, whether it be patchy dry skin from being around a lot of dirt and rubble or if its vitiligo. I want her to give that visibility & confidence to anyone who needs it who might have a similar condition. She's not the type to let her appearance slow her down or hinder what she wants to accomplish. The markings are mostly around her face but they're present all over her body.

When I decided to make her pink, I wanted something else to make her stand out since it's a pretty common color for elephant characters I think(?). I'm glad I did, I think it gives her design an extra charm. I've read comments saying they look like flowers and I think that's lovely.

"Jaune?" Ruby stared in awe as the giant man towered over the huntresses. He dropped his helmet with a thundering crash and began stampeding towards Team RWBY. The earth below them quaked until he crashed before them, wrapping his massive arms around them.

"YOU MADE IT..." Jaune boomed. "YOU FINALLY MADE IT..."

"What happened on the bridge?" Yang asked.

"Since when were the Rusted Giant?!" Blake asked, grunting as she tried to pull away from the crushing embrace. "And when did you get so..."

"Big~?" Weiss crooned, running her hand along the literal wall of muscle not already protected by his armor. Her team gave her a look, each with a mixture of emotions in their reaction, only returning to their previous moods once Weiss had managed to slip away with a reddened face and a clear throat.

"What... happened to you?" Ruby asked as her friend slipped away from the embrace. His eyes were as blue as they were when they first met, though with significantly less light and joy within.

"IT'S A LONG STORY..." His deep voiced rumbled, wracked with pain of being left alone for... so long...

Quake is a wanderer, so if she’s not camping on her own she’s staying the night at an acquaintance’s or an inn.

After the initial conflict that led to her friendship with Blaze she has her own guest room at the palace. But she rarely stays there and it’s mostly for storage.

If she lived in Sonic’s world where there’s more technological advances she would be the type to travel in a big van or some other kind of mobile home

I loved Miruko immediately tbh

Favorite thing: Her grit. Her fight with the nomu is badass. She tourniquets her own arm and keeps fighting.

Least favorite thing: That we don’t really get to hear about her after that fight (in the anime at least, I think she pops back up in the manga later but I’m only a watcher, not a manga reader). Where is my girl?

Favorite line: You’re quaking in your boots, aren’t ya?

BrOTP: Hawks, I think they would be buddies that roast each other. But also Endeavor- they work well together and he clearly considers her an exceptional hero based on the hospital fight episode.

OTP: This one is hard bc we haven’t seen her interact with too many characters, but all the ship art is cute: Snowbunny(Mirko and Fuyumi), ChubbyBunny (Mirko and FatGum) are both cute ones.

I’ve also seen dustbunny (her and Tomura) which I don’t ship but I think is a funny idea in theory.

nOTP: I cannot see Mirko and Hawks as anything but best buds.

Random headcanon: She’s gonna get some awesome prosthetics after the hospital fight with the nomu. I think she’ll be positive and cheerful during recovery and determined to return to hero work.

Unpopular opinion: I think she could beat Hawks in a fight.

I didn't call it "Kanaya's Theme" because I didn't think that it was stylish enough for her. I originally wrote it as the theme just for walking around her house, but I think it turned out to fit her really well as a character despite my own doubts.

Like Terezi's theme, "Darling Kanaya" isn't a remix of her Alternia track (Virgin Orb), but it contains some similar stuff. There are heavily vibrato'd strings... wavering, luscious 7th chords... melodic piano... lots of arpeggios... and a general uplifting feeling of satisfying, calm emotion. She is one of the very few characters in Hivebent that I would categorize as "sane" by human standards, and thus actually one of my favorite trolls. And despite the semi-low quality of the instrumentation, this is one of my favorite tracks by myself.

It's all kind of ghostly and heartfelt, like a sad look out the window with a romance novel in your lap, and then a knowing, welcoming smile. I think that makes sense considering she's an undead vampire now! Or not.

Alternia began when I created Crustacean.

AlterniaBound began when Andrew asked me for a looping version of that track - Crustacean - to use in a flash. Initially this song was simply so, but after I learned more about the scope and depth of the AlterniaBound project... I decided that more of a change was in order for the track. (It was at that point that I also decided it would be cool to have some hidden tracks... leading to the early premiere of many tracks that would eventually be on Homestuck Vol. 6: Heir Transparent.

A little while ago, I finished the "final version" of this track. It's not incredibly melodic or wrenchingly dire like my usual fare, but it still remains one of my own personal favorites:

It's pompous, alien, and goofy - in short, pretty accurate of Karkat and Alternia as a whole

It subtly implies that tuba is Karkat's instrument of choice, which we all know is entirely true

I hope you like it too. And if you don't, I hope it pisses you off as much as it annoys Karkat to have this song play wherever he goes. That's all I can hope for.

The only thing I'd like to note is the middle section remixing Alexander Rosetti's Catchyegrabber. I mean, I'm not the voice of Eridan... and it's a bit of a parallel... but... you know all those people you saw in the flash animation? They were ONLY in the opening sequence. They left after the theme song ecause they realized Plumbthroat was about as bright as a lump of seaweed. He doesn't have any friends. Even the Squiddles refuse to love him. He is one damn lonely man.

(Eridan Boss Battle)

Originally Nautical Nightmare was an orchestral piece for Rose's Denizen.* I wasn't completely satisfied with the end result so it was ultimately scrapped, but the melody and chords kept dancing in my head. MANY months later I discovered the Ultimate Megadrive soundfont by The_Eighth_Bit and I decided to remake it as a boss theme for Eridan. Basically everything about the song changed - the only thing that remains is the main melody and chords.

It's not a really overwhelming track because Eridan is a bit of a joke, but I'm pretty happy with it. The bassline and solo section are some of the sassiest I've ever written, the melody is still really catchy, and the action is persistent. Just listen to that thing a couple times and I'll be damned if it doesn't get stuck in your head.

*I have since done something better called Earthsea Borealis. Maybe you will hear it someday.

Author commentary: Feferi invites Kanaya to join her and Sollux in the horn pile. I don't really remember if this was the intent, but it sure seems like she's pitching Kanaya on getting involved in their quadrant situation in some way. Kanaya doesn't bite, though. (She does literally bite Feferi later, however, due to officially realizing she is a vampire.)

Sollux is being dense. His fish girlfriend was just trying to open the relationship up a bit. Maybe Kanaya could be pale for Fef but spades for Sollux? Or, given the snippy exchange here, maybe Sollux and Feferi could vacillate to black, while Feferi works the red angle with Kanaya? These fools just don't stay open to the POSSIBILITIES. Clearly Eridan is the only one here with any fucking sense.

The top left panel has the best line in the game. You can just skip to the end now.

A lot of this game seems dedicated to establishing an ominous atmosphere to build up to the Murderstuck zone, which we don't even know is going to happen yet, but you actually do because I'm telling you, and you probably already read it anyway. Everyone's missing. We know one person has died but they think he's still alive (Tavros). One person is still alive but they think she died (Aradia). Everyone else is lurking somewhere in the meteor, conspicuously absent by some of the stuff they left behind. It's making Kanaya and Karkat nervous. It's making us nervous.

Eridan says he has to "help Kanaya out with this thing" but doesn't actually say what he means by that. There are a bunch of little ambiguities like this leading up to what happens next, disguising his sinister intent. Or maybe hinting at it, if you have keen senses. We are merely pages away from Eridan fully embracing his role as the incel murderboy he was always meant to be.

Kayana: Splash Faygo in his face, grab the orb like a fumbled football, and sprint for a touchdown. Let's see if she listens to me on the next page…

She doesn't. :(

At this point Eridan might as well be wearing a T-shirt that says in big violet letters "I AM LITERALLY ABOUT TO KILL YOU."

Wait, I'm back, to say something important. Just joking, actually. There's still not much to say about all this. It's just some bad love triangle melodrama playing itself out, while sort of harmlessly tucked away in this "one page" playable panel. There were some pretty funny lines over the last dozen pages or so, at least. Do you really need me to point out when things are funny? Sigh, yes. You do. Of course you do.

Eridan seems to have two gears, "huge martyr" and "wrathfully incredulous." He's incredulous about a lot of things, like "How dare you accuse me of (something I obviously did)." He's incredulous the kitty cat shipper girl wouldn't succumb to his advances after he saved her life. He just can't believe what a raw deal he's always getting and how little respect he's given. Which then fuels his feeling of martyrdom. But this is what makes him one of our problematic faves. This is all pretty great, actually, and is essentially why you start cheering on bad characters to keep doing their bad shit. I hope he kills somebody soon!

The upper right panel has one of the more Eridancore lines he ever says, with an honorable mention to the use of the word "poppycock." Come to think of it, his vocabulary has shades of Jake in it, who also happens to be a Hope player. Yikes, Eridan just took another big step backwards in terms of dignity. Guy really can't catch a break.

The plot of the latter phase of Act 5 mostly seems to revolve around a bunch of different plans to address the Jack situation, and every single one of them is pretty bad. But this one is especially terrible and pathetic. In fact, it's hard to even really describe it as a plan. Someone really should cut Eridan in half with a chainsaw before he tries this.

I believe these sprites were adapted from the style of a Scott Pilgrim game. Same as the one where Vriska stole luck from the big chess monster. Why? I really don't know. Just another style tossed into the ever-expanding portfolio of styles in Homestuck. These were made very casually by one of the art contributors, so there weren't really a ton of sprite frames to use, which meant that the battle couldn't be that extensive. Not that I wanted to make an extensive battle anyway, because wow, what a waste of time. So this does what a lot of these Flash action scenes do, which is take things right up to the edge of conflict, then move on with some standard panel action.

That E=mc² graphic background is to help visually indicate that Eridan is not using magic here, but SCIENCE. Pretty smart, huh? Like, Einstein-level smart, probably. If he could be here today and look at this page, he'd be like, "Damn dude, I officially give the fuck up on being a genius, because I'll never beat that."

Quake's greatest fear is making a mistake in her oracle predictions. She's aware she has an incredibly important and rare gift to read the feelings of, essentially, her world. Fear of not acting soon enough or in the wrong manner, one wrong move could hurt the people she wants to protect.

It's both the cause of her friction with Blaze and actually the thing they have in common and brings them together.
