Kwahu is absolutely elated to finally feel like himself again. He's going to spend the whole caravan trip back to Sparks making Firewall roll around and around in circles just because he can finally, finally control a mechanoid again.

Now, all we have to do is defeat the diabolus and unlock standard mechtech for him to build even more cool mechanoids to control with his newfound powers!!

RimWorld: Anomaly Part 3

Its that part. The next part. Hoo boy.

Under cut to avoid spoilers for the DLC for anyone who hasn't played it yet or isn't as far along.

First, lets take a look at this screenshot.

Yeah. Remember when I said that the revenant had more in store for us? It was this.

Here's how we got to this point.

During the revenant's first escape, it had hypnotized four of my colonists, including Emmie. Emmie was a 16 year old slave girl that I bought from a trader along with an impid child named Cevin, whom I genuinely wanted as true colonists so I imprisoned them both, converted, and recruited them. Emmie is a competent doctor although a pacifist whom I also used a couple of plants skilltrainers on to have her double as a gardener.

Maybe three quadrums after the revenant's initial escape, I get this message.

Naturally, I panic. It tells me I have the option to do surgical inspections so I start doing that rampantly.

I figure that maybe I can find out who the imposter is more quickly if I do these inspections. I start with copy Johnston who is still our prisoner at this point along with another prisoner I'm watching for another faction, figuring that maybe because she came from the obelisk or because he came from another faction, that it might be one of them.

It didn't clearly tell me that these inspections couldn't actually find whatever was causing this until later, soooo, yeahh.

In case you hadn't guessed, Emmie, Lorall, and Hadar are all of my best doctors. I completely unknowingly did this to myself.

So, what do you do when literally all of your best pawns are downed because their bodies are ripping themselves open to allow metalhorrors to emerge?

You savescum.

Yeah. I didn't want to give up on this colony with how far we've come.

It mentioned interrogation so I took Emmie prisoner in an earlier save and did so until I got this message:

This also caused me to panic thinking that maybe the other colonists that got hypnotized by the revenant might also be hosts for metal horrors, but I couldn't remember who all got hypnotized, I just knew that Emmie wasn't the first out of the four. So I took a couple others that I think got hypnotized prisoner for a while too, juust to be safe.

Nothing came of the interrogations, so I recruited them back. I hope that's okay. Now we have a policy of imprisoning anyone hypnotized by the revenant if/when it breaks out... While I research transport pods on the side.

Once we got a handle on that, and disabled the copy obelisk, we had a fun new challenge waiting for us.

Rimworld Writing Exercise

In the interest of flexing the muscle a bit, a not methodical play-along of my latest Rimworld run.

My modlist is intense and I have barely scratched the full surface of the base game but more or less the overall goals for this run are as follows:

One major and two minor settlements. A recap of a handful of residents per quadrum. Screenshots as I feel like it.

Outside of the game I'm hoping to use things that pop up as a means of doing some writing drills or something. No huge pressure or promise to post any of it but it'd be fun I think.

Currently we're using Diego Industrial and I've cut the VFE mechanoid stuff out cos I have never played where I could conceivably even dream of defending a settlement from those things. I like a lower tech playthrough generally. Renewables, no war crimes. I am considering having a planned jail for the first time in a while (I had built a very nice place once and had set up tents for prisoners while we treated them but one day a bunch of assholes showed up and tossed torches everywhere and they all got burned alive before I could rescue them)

In my favourite Rimworld colony the first child that was born in the colony grew to a toddler about a quadrum ago. He's 3 and is attending a wedding and is currently openly insulting people. He's not having a breakdown, he just likes to make people feel bad.

His name is Gabe.

We had a quest to give some (42) tank tops to a nearby settlement. Kwahu is a fast crafter, and we had lots of bison wool from our pet bison, Tequila, so we decided to take it. Why not?

Now we have allies! That's nice. They still get upset when we yeet toxic wastepacks into the ocean, though :(

So, remember that baby we have in cryptosleep? We haven't done anything with her yet because we were building a room (and also our dog died, then our triplet died, then we had a potentially dangerous creepjoiner, then we lost some limbs... It's been a hectic quadrum, okay??).

However, with the addition of a masterwork crib and a lick of paint, the room is finally ready, and so are the boys...

Of course, we couldn't have a baby without one last reprimand from Mechi. I wonder what the Jones boys will decide to call their new ward? 🤔

“I heard one of you serves the Queen of Tanad,” Jihan said, folding his arms on his lap. “Surely, you would wish for such a life.”

“Don’t insult my choice to defend your twelve year old self,” Firuz said. “When I met you, you were an angry child, Jihan. The only things you lived for were to succeed and protect your sister. If your family had not made the plea to the Quadrum for a Shadow Guard, I fear you might be long dead by now.”

“I wasn’t that bad,” Jihan said, with a sigh.

Firuz chuckled.

“I remember accepting the order to find you. I left Levan thinking you were a quiet twelve year old that needed babysitting at the most."

I think I missed how old Firuz was when I first read this and I pictured him as basically being the same age as Jihan and this little kid showing up out of nowhere to protect this other little kid (which I still kind of like the idea of) but him being twenty already does make more sense considering his physical skills and abilities.

When am I going to get a book centered on the shadow guards 😔

Ooooh so this means Aoi would have been about twenty when she came to guard Rahsan as well! It makes me wonder how old Kyra was when she got a shadow guard? I'd imagine around the same age considering the pattern? Maybe a little older since she would have had a little more protection than some of the others considering she's a princess?

Newfoundland Castle Tour- Part Three: Middle Quarter

The middle part of Newfoundland Castle is the most special. After many quadrums of collecting gold the walls of Newfoundland Castle Cathedral could be built. Due to some outbursts from parishioners, raids etc some of the walls had to be replaced with ceramite.

It is the resting place of Newfoundland Castle's founding fathers such as Reikguard, founder of Newfoundland Castle's army. Radia Sinclaire, a war hero and some of the labourers whose blood sweat and tears created the Newfoundland Castle we know today.

In the atrium of the cathedral before our honoured dead is a piece of art on the ground to remind Newfoundland Castle residents to persevere through illness and hardship.

Those unfortunate to have had their bodies lost before burial at Newfoundland Castle Cathedral are remembered with plaques.

On the left of the Cathedral, lies the Yoon Kim Memorial hospital which is due a refurbishment and extension very soon. Also found in the middle Quarter are part of Newfoundland Castle's power supply. The geothermal generator is kept safe behind lock and key to avoid any incidents similar to at Newfoundland Castle Cathedral.

Mark and Alyssa have been dating for a few quadrums and everyone else in town has been pretty uncomfy with it. Mark is in his forties and Alyssa is just now turning 20 WHEN THEY LANDED SHE WAS 15 I dont think there's anything we can do as a town to make Mark see that dating a 19 year old at 42 is (while not technically illegal) still really fuckin weird. At least they're happy I suppose? I dunno. Icks all around but hey they found something in each other.
