my mom used the phrase "un peu quétaine" to describe one of the other acts at the last festival and nobody knew what she meant europeans are so swagless

#like how else are you meant to describe things that are simply quétaine #i guess in english you could say cheesy or corny which sort of gets at it but not quite #in french if you're not saying quétaine i suppose the closest is kitsch but that implies it's like #in some way purposeful and self aware #which quétaine is decidedly not #quétaine is just quétaine idk how else to describe it. you know it when you see it #soapbox
